Pedestal candy dish with lid. Excellent condition with no chips, cracks or breaks.  This aqua glass insulator is marked: Hemingray No.20 / Made in USA and produced 1880 through 1940. It was replaced by CD 165 in 1941.

Hemingray was founded in 1848 by two partners, Robert Hemingray & Ralph Gray. Moving their glassworks across the river from Cincinnati in Covington, KY in 1852, the company went through a series of names, ultimately incorporating in 1870 as the Hemingray Glass Co. They were making insulators at least as early as the 1880s. In 1933, Hemingray Glass Co. was sold to the Owens-Illinois Glass Co., and the last Hemingray insulators were produced in 1957.

In good condition it does have chips on the inside ring which I have shown in my pictures and it measures 4 inches tall and 3 1/8 inches across the rim.

Highly collectible as an Insulator or it can be used as a paperweight.

The lovely etched pattern Meadow Rose is on this Baroque shape Fostoria nappy. It is triangular shaped with a loop handle. In excellent condition.  This heavy attractive pitcher has bright glass and a very nice overall diamond design which graduates, and finally turns to a swirl at the neck. It is BIM, Blown-in-mold and very well executed. The handle is applied with a squiggle at the lower section. The pontil is rough. It is quite heavy; measures 5 5/8 inches tall x 5 ¼ inches across the widest part of the body. Mint, bright, no damage. I suspect that this is a newer item, but whoever made it is a master!

Brand new, unused, original 2 Argand lamp chimneys, aka slip-chimneys, from an old hoard. The glass is crystal clear; the photo shows yellow but that is due to lighting. They measure about 10 ½ inches tall, 1 ¾ inches OD at the base, and 1 1/8 inches OD at the top. The glass is heavy with some bubbles and rough cut edges both top and bottom. One has a partial original black and white paper label. I have one of these with the complete label (not for sale) which says: FireProof, Bohemian Annealed Flint Glass. These are the original thing, not repros and not easy to find. In 1790, France, a central draft burner was invented by Francois Argand. Its advantage was a brighter light, and a reduction in the consumption of oil. In Thuro’s Oil Lamps III, pg 176-77, the chimney is shown on a Wheeler System Reflector, ca 1880. Generally, earlier in its life, an Argand lamp required the oil supply to be above the rounded burner wick for gravity feed. There is a photo of an Argand chimney in Barlow & Kaiser’s Boston & Sandwich, vol. 2, # 2295, with # 2296 showing an American "improvement."

This was a fascinating item to research, and if you need a real original Argand chimney or 2, here they are!

Fun collection of a dozen cordial glasses, ranging from pressed EAPG through the Depression, to the mid 20th century. Included are 3 with gold-trim; cut (Libbey Rocke Sharp); and what I believe to be 2 cordial-sized pressed pattern children’s stem glasses. Some are flint or leaded glass; some are optic. There are 12 different designs. All are MINT, and measure from 2 ¾ inches to 4 inches in height. BTW, EAPG glasses of this size were used as wines, although they are cordials by today’s standards. The glass tray is probably from 1930-40’s, an overall thumb print design with intact gold trim. Tray measures 12 ¾ x 8 x 1 1/8 inches, and is quite heavy.

I’m not sure of the age of this unusual large mug, but it looks to be blown-in-mold, with 2 mold lines along the sides and one around the base. There is an applied handle and a few bubbles in the pleasant rich green glass. The design consists of a lion on either side, each holding a ring; one can feel an indent behind each lion consistent with BIM. It measures 5 1/8 inches in height and is in mint condition with no damage; there is some base wear.

We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. As more and more people feel the urge to possess objects of age or beauty, so the prices of antiques soar beyond the pockets of many people. Bottles, however, have remained comparatively inexpensive. In Victorian times our forebears packed everything from tea to hair restorer in glass bottles, and they discarded them with their household refuse. In rubbish dumps all over Britain these bottles are waiting to be dug up, each non-machine- made bottle a collector's item. This book describes the development of bottles of all sorts and illustrates over two hundred examples.  This set of 6 cocktail glasses in the Game Bird pattern were made by the Libbey Rock Sharpe Company of Toledo, Ohio and have the L mark on the bottom.

The Libbey Glass Company was one of the largest glass manufacturers in the United States of America during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. In 1888, Edward Libbey moved his glass-manufacturing establishment from Massachusetts to Toledo, Ohio. They produced bottles, containers and window glass. The Libbey Glass Company became even more profitable after Michael Owens, an inventor from Newark, Ohio, joined the firm. Owens developed a machine that could automatically produce bottles, tumblers, and glass chimneys. The company remains in operation in the twenty-first century. In 2004, it was the United States largest manufacturer of glass dinnerware, with plants in Louisiana, California, and Ohio, as well as in the Netherlands.

From the 1950's, all are in very good + condition without chips, cracks or fleabites but some do show gold rim wear from age and they measure 3 1/2 inches tall, 3 1/2 inches across the rim and 1 7/8 inches across the base.

An addition to any Vintage Libbey Rock Sharpe Crystal Collection.
