Holiday and Seasonal: Christmas: Ornaments

What's New in the Collector's Showcase of Holiday and Seasonal: Christmas: Ornaments?
The Most Recent Additions to This Category are First!
Two dozen miniature cobalt blue silvered glass feather tree size Christmas ornaments in their original 1960s Shiny Brite box. They are quite small, just one-half inch to 5/8" diameter. All have wire loop hangers and are in good condition with no breaks or damage. Exposure to sunlight has caused some shading and color variations with the blues ranging from cobalt to slate to almost purplish or violet blue. The box has minor storage wear but is intact.

A 23 piece assortment of reindeer themed plastic Christmas decorations, ornaments, and figures from the 1950s and 1960s. The big bagged centerpiece is still in its original packaging. It's over 12 inches high, a tree with holly, pinecones, poinsettias, and reindeer. There are three wired floral picks with greenery and white reindeer heads, all with extra long antlers, about 10" long.

The little egg crate tree ornament with a deer inside appears to be home made. There are three white flocked reindeer ornaments in two sizes and four miniature deer in white, brown, or metallic gold plastic, 2 inches high or less.

One reindeer is made of heavy wire covered with Visca type pine greenery, it may be newer than the others. There is a pink sugar-coated deer ornament and a similar tall reindeer in white with bead eyes and nose. Of the remaining standing or leaping figures, one is hollow pink and white celluloid, one is painted hard plastic, and one is all white and meant to attach to a sleigh or candy container. Five have twisting, poseable heads. Everything is in good vintage condition or better with no serious issues.

These 1960s Jewel Brite plastic Christmas ornaments are faceted long cube or gem shaped, 3 inches high. There are 15: three each in green, blue, and yellow, along with 6 red. The back halves are reflective with a silver backing inside, the fronts are transparent. The ornaments are empty inside but open up easily so you can fill them with candy, small trims or figures, or scraps of shiny tinsel garland. All are in excellent vintage condition.

These American made 1940s plastic Christmas ornaments have five-point stars within a circle, bordered by clear bumpy or beaded rings. Three are blue and clear, one is glow-in-the-dark white and clear (I tested it and it does glow purple when exposed to a light source). The ornaments are 3" diameter and in excellent condition with no damage. A fifth ornament is a 2-part dimensional star with a clear piece that inserts into the blue star. An extra blue star without the insert is included as a bonus.

1940s Plastic Star in Circle Christmas O $28.00

Four super retro 1950s and 1960s hard plastic Christmas ornaments, made by Bradford Novelty. They have a Space Age look, especially the bright pink spiked Sputnik starburst. It's 4-3/4" tall to the hanging hook. There's a little tarnishing of the color, no chips or breaks.

Two of the ornaments have a UFO or space ship look with reticulated or cut out band holly decoration. They are just over 3-1/2" high, one metallic green, the other metallic blue with painted pink and yellow stripes. One has a metal replacement cap on the top for hanging.

The last ornament is a 3-1/4 inch open caged blue ball with holly decoration on the bars and a silver plastic bell hanging inside. A nice assortment of futuristic style ornaments for your retro Christmas tree.

A 1950s boxed set of "Unbreakable" hard plastic Christmas ornaments by Bradford Novelty. Some sets had fewer ornaments but instead came with a star indent spire tree topper. I'm including one of those Bradford toppers with the ornaments as a bonus.

There are four 3 inch high bells - two with stenciled decoration and two with fancy filigree cutouts. The other five are round balls. One is embossed with snowman figures on both sides. Two have pierced cut-out decorations on both sides: an angel, candles, Mr and Mrs Snowman figures. The other two are indents, one is double sided. All are in excellent condition with no breaks, chips, stains, or color wear.

The spire tree topper is 9-3/4" high in red and green over silver. Five star points around the center surround the faceted indented ball center. Some minor darkening of the red color. The cellophane window in the box lid is loose, otherwise the box is in good condition.

These mica glitter bird Christmas candy container ornaments were made in Western Germany between 1947 and 1951. They're about 2-1/2 inches high by 3-1/2 inches long, one pink, one granite gray. The birds have black painted eyes and open beaks. Gold cord hangers attached to the backs allow you to use them as tree ornaments. The egg-shaped cardboard bodies have applied wings and tails, the heads come off to reveal whatever treats you put inside. The insides are lined in blue flowered paper, and the necks are marked Made In Western Germany. Some spots of mica wear as shown, otherwise excellent condition. Price is for the pair.

An assortment of late 1940s to early 1950s Japan Christmas ornament decorations made with silver mercury glass bead chains and foiled paper maché bells. Three have silver foil poinsettias at the tops with red glass bead centers, two of these also have green foil holly leaves. Each has four staggered-length strands of silver beads with two smaller and two larger foil covered composition bells dangling below. One still has its original paper Made In Japan label attached. They are 9 to 10 inches long.

The other three dangle ornaments are similar but do not have the foil poinsettias at the tops. Two have three bells. These are about 7 inches long. There may be a couple of chipped beads and they do have inner silvering loss. I'm including a couple of extra smaller ornaments that are incomplete that you can use to extend or add to the other six.

Mercury Glass Beaded Christmas Ornaments $35.00

This circa 1950 hard plastic Christmas candy container toy was made by Rosbro / Rosen Plastics in the USA. The bright red full figure Santa Claus stands on a green wagon with red wheels. One hand has an opening to hold a lollipop or sucker and there's a loop on top of Santa's head to hang as a tree ornament if desired. Another loop at the front of the wagon will take a string, allowing the child to use the decoration as a pull toy. About 4-1/2 inches high. One green peg which helps hold the wheel axle in place on the bottom is snapped off though the wheels are still attached and functional. There is a little white paint wear to Santa's beard, otherwise it's in good vintage condition.

A set of four somewhat glamorous 3-dimensional hard plastic Christmas ornaments from 1960s to 1970s Hong Kong. They're clear glass balls with golden colored figures inside, trimmed in metallic gold braid and topped by gold lamé ribbon bows. One has a scene of the three Kings or Wisemen, another a kneeling and praying angel, and two have graceful reindeer inside. The ornaments are 3 inches high by 2-1/2" diameter and in very good vintage condition.

One dozen Mid Century blown glass Christmas ornaments from Poland in a plain manila covered box. They're round, about 3 inches high by 2-1/2" or so wide. Ten have vertical colored beach ball-like stripes or bands of color with glittered pine branch decoration alternating with satin white stripes. These are red, pink, gold and blue. Two ornaments are similar but have hand painted leaf decoration on blue or pink alternating with bands of white mica glitter. There is minor finish wear from age or handling, nothing major, no chips or breaks. The box has one split lid corner, otherwise intact.

Four scarce old silvered mercury glass candle shape Christmas ornaments, 5-1/2 inches long. They date to the 1930s and were made in America, possibly by Kentlee. The red finish is in excellent condition with only slight wear toward the tops. The inner silvering is still intact with little if any deterioration, though one candle has a glittery, sparkled appearance caused by tiny bubbles to the mercury. I'm not sure what the center separations are for, perhaps to tie holly or other decorations to the candles. There are no flakes, chips, or other damage.

4 Long Mercury Glass Red Candle Christma $56.00

This antique Germany mercury glass Christmas ornament depicts an Indian in a canoe. It's 4 inches long and has no color other than a couple of tiny pink spots. The ornament molding is well defined despite my bad photos - the pictures were taken at night and don't show the nice details. The Indian is wearing a feather chief's headdress and holds and axe or tomahawk in one hand, an oar in the other - both arms dangle below the sides of the canoe. There is age degradation of the inner mercury silvering, causing some transparent areas at the bottom and one side and a milky-white coloring to the top side. There are no chips or breaks.

Two very pretty old embossed mercury glass red bell shape Christmas ornaments, made in Germany in the 1920s to 1930s. They're about 2-1/2 inches high and have daisy-like flowers embossed on both sides. It's hard to see in my pictures, but the flowers are attached to stems at the top and two long curved leaves frame the flowers. The bells have a stippled beads texture and a molded half-ball clapper at the bottoms. The red finish is in great condition and there are no chips or breaks. Price is for the pair.

A pair of 1920s fancy wired beaded glass Christmas ornaments from Czechoslovakia. Two cobalt blue mercury glass balls are in the centers - they have the blue coloring within the glass itself, not applied. Three rows of faceted silver mercury glass beads form dimensional diamond shape cages around the cobalt balls, with a cross of glass tube beads at the centers of each side surrounding a silver and blue beaded flower shape. Little beaded tassels dangle below the center. The ornaments are 4 inches long. One has a missing bead at one flower center and the inner mercury silvering has degraded with age, causing darkening and shading variations. Price is for the set of two ornaments.

One dozen medium-large size metal replacement hanger caps for vintage American made glass Christmas ornaments. Half are marked Shiny Brite and have the distinctive ribbed design to the scalloped skirts. The others are marked Made In U.S.A. They are just over 1/2 inch to just under 3-4" diameter and are appropriate for 2-1/2 to 3 inch diameter Shiny Brite, Premier, Coby, Franke, Corning, and other USA made vintage ornaments such as double indents, teardrops, and round balls.

They measure 13/16", or just over 3/4 of an inch diameter. Here are a dozen replacements. All are vintage and marked Poland. The sizes vary a bit: three caps will fit pike openings that are about or just under 1/2 inch diameter, 4 smaller caps are for ornaments with pikes 1/4 to 3/8" diameter, the rest are in between.  These Eames Era plastic Christmas ornaments by Bradford Novelty are from the 1950s to early 1960s. They were especially popular for aluminum trees, as well as for households with young children and pets as they were marketed as "unbreakable".

There are 13 filigree cutout bells, about 2 inches high by 2-1/4 inches diameter (the smaller of two sizes made) - 11 red and two silver. The bright, reflective metallic colors have little if any wear, and there are no chips or cracks.

This USA-made glass Christmas ornament is an officially licensed collegiate sports team collector series ornament commemorating the Brigham Young University cougars. I suppose it could be for either basketball or sports fans, the ornament doesn't specify. The 3 inch high glass ball is dark cobalt blue with white, silver, and tan graphics. In mint condition, it doesn't look like it was ever removed from its original Mylar box. The box does have a tear at one corner.

A dozen smaller 2-1/4 inch diameter 1950s striped glass Shiny Brite Christmas ornaments in a vintage green and tan Shiny Brite box bottom.

The ornaments are decorated in a rainbow of metallic and opaque colored horizontal stripes, two with white and colored mica glitter bands and stripes. One dark pink ornament has some scratches to the finish near the top and a couple of the green/blue ornaments have some finish wear as well. The pink and white ornament is near transparent from loss of the inner silvering but still very pretty. The box has no lid.

A wonderful 1800s antique full figure Santa Claus Christmas ornament, made from cotton batting and German litho paper scraps. The Santa figure is about 5 inches high, the cotton body dusted with flakes of clear snow glitter. Both back and front have lithographed, embossed scrap heads, the front has Santa holding a scrap fancy Christmas tree lavishly decorated with lit candles and ornaments. The cotton body has a pleasant natural aged coloring, the paper scraps are in excellent condition. A small hanging hole is at the top, allowing you to insert a cord or wire loop for hanging.

Fourteen lovely old jeweled and tinsel flower and snowflake gift package ties or trims, unused and mounted on their original card. They have sturdy double wire backs and could also be used as Christmas tree ornaments or decorations. There is no indication on the card as to where or when they were made, I'm guessing 1950s Japan.

The flowers consist of faceted clear plastic rhinestone-like colored and clear jewel stones, arranged into flower shapes with feathery gold tinsel behind the center stones. Nine are about 1-1/2 inches diameter, five are larger with spoked double jewels arranged in snowflake designs, about 2 inches or so diameter. One pink flower has no tinsel decoration, otherwise they're in excellent vintage condition. The pictures were taken at night - colors are brighter and more sparkling in daylight.

A box of four clever 1960s Japan Christmas ornaments with pixie, Santa, and angel figures bursting out of flocked decorated balls. The box graphics say they're "Broken Ornaments", made in Japan exclusively for Montgomery Ward, article number 48-12184.

The 3-1/2" high paper maché balls are flocked on the outside and decorated with braids, ribbons, and foil paper trim. The fronts have jagged-edge cutout openings, and the felt figures inside appear to be breaking out or hatching from the balls. Two are yellow with little angels hold scrap songbooks, one is red with a skinny pixie pixie elf, and the fourth features a Santa figure with sack of toys. The ornaments are in excellent condition, the box has slight storage wear.

This sweet 1950s Japan composition Christmas ornament features a hard plastic angel with fawn or deer figure in an open painted and glittered manger or stable. The back wall of the manger is mirrored and bordered with mercury glass beads. Next to the angel and fawn are mica glittered bottle brush trees and lacquered composition mushrooms. Tavern Wax Toy Soldiers 1940s Christmas $28.00

A set of one dozen early metal Christmas tree light reflectors in punched tin (the holes do not go all the way through the metal). Several are marked on the back "Patents Allowed And Pend.". I found them in one of my Christmas books identified as Diamond Ray brand, circa 1927. About 3 inches diameter, they are in a variety of different star, flower, and poinsettia shapes.

The reflectors are are surprisingly heavy, at least in comparison to later foil reflectors. All have their 5 metal prongs to secure the bulbs in the centers and are in good vintage condition - one oddly has factory made cuts at the center with minor bends at the opening edge - perhaps used with a larger size light bulb. They are a dark pewter gray color, not as shiny as they appear in the second photo. One reflector has a few spots of light surface rust.

A box of six retro composition Christmas ornaments, made in 1950s Japan for Shiny Brite. They are cardboard boots with gold foil leaf, each filled with little decorated bottle brush trees, lacquered holly leaves, mercury glass ball ornaments, and other items. One has mercury glass candles, another foil candy canes, and four have spun cotton figures: angel, elf, Santa, and snowman. The ornaments are about 3-1/2 inches high and have gold thread loops for hanging on the Christmas tree. One or two have a bit of wear to the gold leafing on the edges of the boots and the mercury glass ornaments have some loss of the inner silvering, otherwise they're all in very good condition. The original box is present but does not have the Shiny Brite lid.

This green blown glass indented scene Christmas ornament was made in Japan in the late 1930s to late 1940s. Inside the concave recess in the glass is a hollow celluloid reindeer figure against a background of glittery white mica snow. About 3 inches high by 2-5/8" diameter, it's considerably larger than most diorama ornaments of this type. In excellent vintage condition with no damage and little wear, just some light spotting due to inner silvering loss at the back. The metal cap is marked Made In Japan.

A gorgeous, jumbo size blown glass teardrop Christmas ornament from 1950s Poland decorated with stenciled and hand painted blue roses. It's nearly 6-1/2 inches high by nearly 4 inches diameter. Three stenciled blue roses or flowers with green leaves on a satin white background are separated by blue vertical bands with white painted squiggle line decoration. The ornament is shown next to a normal size coffee mug for scale in the last photo. There are some scratches to the blue paint just below the metal cap and wear to the mica glitter outlining the blue stripes, otherwise excellent condition.

1920s Punched Tin Christmas Light Reflec $50.00

Box Japan 1950s Compo Boot Christmas Orn $49.00

Large Glass Diorama Scene Reindeer Inden $29.00

Poland Blue Rose Stenciled Huge Teardrop $40.00

These three vintage unsilvered glass Christmas ornaments are decorated with transparent colors and mica ground glass glitter. They were likely produced during or shortly after the end of World War II, when silver nitrate was still in short supply and manufacturers had to decorate their ornaments with transparent and painted colors.

The 2-5/8" diameter ornaments are decorated in two different color schemes but all have the same design:. colored mica stars over vertical bands of transparent color, with white mica pine branches alternating. The metal caps are marked Made In U.S.A. In excellent condition with only slight wear to the mica mica glitter.

This 3-1/2 inch tall silvered glass owl Christmas ornament was made in 1930s Czechoslovakia. It has a watercolor-like tinted finish in variegated pink, yellow, and green. The transparent light glaze is quite delicate and has flaked quite a bit in the front. The pike is chipped under the metal cap.

This 1930s blown glass bell Christmas ornament was made in Germany. It's 4-1/4 inches high and has a hollow pierced brass metal ball clapper wired to the inside and a figural glass acorn or berry finial handle top. The bell is decorated with pink, white, yellow, and green horizontal bands or stripes, mica glitter leaves around the center glass stripe. The berry or acorn is gold red. The ornament has some finish wear from age and handling as well as age degradation of the inner mercury silvering. A small pike chip is visible below the metal cap. I'm going to change out the metal cap before shipment as it's a little big and doesn't hang as well as a smaller one would.

A pretty glass bird clip-on style Christmas ornament in rich reddish brown with gold glittered wings and a real feather tail. The ornament is about 5-1/2" long with it's curled tail (longer if the tail is straightened). The legs are gold-colored coiled springs mounted to the metal clip that make the bird tremble and flutter on the tree branch at the slightest breeze or movement. Excellent condition with no damage. Three identical ornaments are available, price is per ornament.

This pretty 1950s Japan-made Christmas ornament can be a wall, window, or door decoration, or you can hang it on the tree as an ornament. My mother always hung one like this on our front door. It's more than 12 inches long, the top a wreath of wired gold mercury glass beads with silver foil leaves, wired small gold bead flowers, and a white satin bow at the base. Dangling below the center are four staggered-length chains of silver mercury glass beads with gold glass ball ornaments in different sizes at the ends of the chains. Some normal mild inner silvering loss to the beads and ornaments, otherwise the decoration is in excellent vintage condition with no chips or breaks.

These six painted hard plastic angel figures have spikes at the bottoms to use as cake or cupcake decorations, or in floral arrangements, centerpieces, or holiday wreaths. They aren't marked but were made in late 1940s to early 1950s Western Germany. Most of the 3" to 3-1/2 inch high angels hold something - a lantern, a songbook, a tree, or a lit candle. One angel has no hands and another is missing one of her wings at the back, the others are in excellent condition.

Nine flower shape Christmas light reflector ornaments from 1930s Japan. They're 2-3/4" diameter, made in layers. The tops are cardboard thickly coated in brightly colored paint and flakes of mica and gold glitter, the backs are metal- thin sheets of tin. All but one have mirrored tin circle decorations around the center openings. They can be used as reflector collars for C-6 light bulbs of course, but each also has a pull-out metal hanger on the back to use as a Christmas tree ornament. All nine are in excellent vintage condition with no damage.
