Jewelry: Fine: 1900-1935 Art Nouveau and Art Deco

What's New in the Collector's Showcase of Jewelry: Fine: 1900-1935 Art Nouveau and Art Deco?
The Most Recent Additions to This Category are First!
Delightful cut-steel half moon motif buckle and bow shaped shoe clip set. While it’s true that during the Victorian era cut-steel was considered proper for day wear and was used to make cloak clips, shoe buckles, brooches, and chatelaines; they were also being manufactured into the 1920s and 30s due to their popularity. These are the first shoe buckles I've seen in a bow, which look terrific on pumps by the way, and are one of the great motifs from the Art Deco period. Cut-steel is once again becoming fashionable. When I began my business over a decade ago, dealers couldn't give these away. Now days the prices on these pieces are high. The belt buckle measures 1-7/8 inch by 2-3/8 inch. The shoe clips are 1-5/8 inch wide.

Condition: There are two studs missing off the buckle. All pieces are the same coloring on the back, which my photo does not seem to indicate.  Demi parure, sterling silver open work hand made pendant necklace with earrings, set, contemporary. Pendant is marked on bale "DC 925". Necklace is hand faceted natural rose quartz, small beads, about 16" long with a 14K yellow gold clasp. Most likely NOT original to the pendant; however, looks great together.

Pendant is about 2 1/4" long; earrings are each 2" long.

Earrings are pierced with clip ons to secure them. All stones are open backed.

Well made, looks like fine jewelry. Excellent condition.  Wedgwood blue, jasperware brooch, unmarked sterling silver bezel, neoclassic scene, about 1 5/8" by 1 1/8" oval brooch, signed, Wedgwood Made in England, B68, age unknown, mint condition.  Approx. size 6, big wooden rink, chunky, about size 6-6.5, approx. 1" diameter, cool hippie ring, contemporary, good condition.

Cut-steel Buckle and Bow Shoe Clips $80.00

STERL SILVER CARVED MOTHER OF PEARL FLOW $125.00

LOVELY VINTAGE WEDGWOOD JASPERWARE STERL $75.00

INTERESTING CARVED WOOD WOODEN PEACE SIG $18.00

Wonderful ring, late 1900s, contemporary, lacquered wooden ring with brass button like top, big round top, fun and clunky!  I think there was (or was meant to be) an ID plaque above the "original" on this BIG

dress clip. The molded glass center looks like a raspberry to me, measuring almost an inch across. the prong set 6 pointy red stones are about 1/2 inch wide   Cool bracelet, age unknown, art deco inspired, would compliment bakelite jewelry, mottled red plastic resin with speckles and flakes of black and white, geometric asymmetrical shape, thick and chunky, fits a medium wrist (female), nearly 1 3/4" wide, nearly an inch at its thickest. EXCELLENT condition.  Approx. 24" necklace, jawbreaker size beads, unusual and rare, hand made beads, circa 1950s-60s, fair condition with some wear to beads which can only be noticed by touch.

UNUSUAL CHUNKY CLUNKY WOODEN BRASS RING $18.00

Raspberry Dress Clip ____Original $49.00

ASYMMETRICAL MOTTLED RED RESIN GEOMETRIC $125.00

UNUSUAL VENETIAN ART GLASS JAWBREAKER BE $75.00

Superb estate find! Set of FOUR bangles, bangle bracelet set, wear alone or stacked. Circa 1950s-60s, unsure of they are bakelite, lucite or both, each with wod. All 4 bracelets are about 1 1/4" at its thickest combined. Interior diameter about 2 5/8", average or medium woman's wrist size.

The green and orange-red bangle each appear more like bakelite, while the rich lemon and seafoam blue =bangles look more like lucite.

I am assuming these are most likely all lucite and pricing accordingly.

These are a super rare set and in fine, mint condition.  Sweetheart jewelry became very popular back during the harsh reality of WWII. This particular tac pin is one I have never seen before. The heart charm is extensively engraved. It has two hearts that are "love knotted" together. Atop is a skeleton key. These hang from a mesh bow tac pin. The metal is brass. This is a great piece of sweetheart jewelry offered just in time for Valentine's Day. Measures 1.75 inch. Normal wear.  Lovely goldy-topaz stones in this small dress clip. Probably foil backed, probably Czech, definitely pretty and a good price. 1 1/2 by 1 1/2.  I believe this is approximately a 1949 Western Electric Art Deco Bakelite phone. I was told it is a Model 302 telephone.

The phone is in working condition and has been professionally restored to work on modern phone lines. I used it and it works fine.

a little more about the model 302...

The 302 was the Bell System's mainstay phone for two decades (1937-1958), and the first Western Electric phone not to require a subset. The 302 was designed by industrial designer Henry Dreyfuss, who also designed John Deere tractors, Hoover vacuum cleaners, and streamlined trains.

The 302 was the first WE telephone containing all of its circuitry within the base and not requiring a separately mounted subset box for the ringer.

Hat ornament, worn similarly to a hatpin (hat pin), about 6" LONG, CIRCA 1920S-30S, Depression era, flapper girl accessory, show wear, some pain chipped off, good vintage condition, sold as found, priced as a non-perfect art deco period piece.   Hanging about 3" long, pierced earrings, estate find, non-sterling silver wire filigree, hand made, real stones of some sort, marble green stone, some sort of agate, related to malachite perhaps? Circa 1960s-70s, probably from somewhere like Bali or even mid eastern, unsure, very nice looking dangle dangling earrings! VERY good vintage condition, no damage or repair.  Circa 1950s-60s, vintage mulitcolor pearls, real, cultured pearls in hues of ivory, blue, pink, and bronze.

Set includes:

~a necklace comprised of an approx. 16-17" stamped 925 sterling silver delicate neck chain with a pearl cluster pendant that hangs about 3/4" long.

~a pair of earrings that each hang about 1 3/8" long and have lovely matching pearl clusters that hang like little bunches of grapes. The wires appear original, vintage and sterling silver though I did not see a mark.

Set is in very good condition. I am selling it as found, UNpolished.   Not one but a PAIR of these interesting, sleek, and actually quite elegant pendants. Each pendant is about 1 3/8" long and 5/8" wide and appears to be handmade hand cut and polished green translucent agate stones in jade green hues. They match beautifully and are either Mexican or perhaps native American Indian artisan pieces. No markings, circa 1940s-50s, easily converted in a pair for earrings with the simple addition of French hooks or other such earring wires. Or worn as an amulet or necklace pendant. Would be nice to share with a sister or best friend or other family (by blood and by choice..ie..friends...;~) too.

Metal is guaranteed to be at least 800 silver or more likely 925 sterling silver. Nice weight and feel. I suppose this stone could even be a type of green onyx. I welcome any information shared about this stone.

Sold as found, unpolished, all original, complete, and in excellent condition.

These have been keepers of mine for 25+ yrs. They are each about 7/8" diameter and date to the early 1900s. They are brass and enameling and are quite nice. They probably originally were a set of 3 but I only have two. They are in mint condition and sold as a pair.

I welcome information you may have that adds to the info provided below.

from a VERY sweet and helpful friend and customer:

"I googled "monkey / cat fable" on the Internet and found an article about a seventeenth century fable about a monkey (and in one version a dog) who persuades a cat to pull some roasting chestnuts out of a fireplace, supposedly to share with him. But when the cat goes along with him the monkey eats all the chestnuts and the cat's left with nothing but burned paws. So this led to expressions like "to pull the chestnuts out of the fire", and to be a "cat's paw", meaning to be easily duped. There were even pictures, and one was of an old engraving of a monkey and cat which was done in a different style than on the buttons but otherwise similar. So I don't know if that's what the buttons are supposed to depict or not, but I thought it was interesting."  Delightfully Deco, this 1930s-40s AMCO gold-filled bar pin has a sleek geometric design of rings hugging two overlapping ellipses with a genuine blue topaz stone.

The pin is 1 1/2" long and about 1/2" wide. Theh bezel-set round topaz is 8mm in diameter and has a very vibrant hue and great refraction.

"AMCO" and "1/20 10K" is stamped on the back of the pin; these safety clasp pin is secure. Condition is super and the blue topaz is as lively as they come!

See top of page for current store special and news.  Wonderful art deco era buttons, new on card, never used, 18 in all, cards are worn and tattered, one said "Paris Mode".
