Kitchen Collectibles: Appliances

What's New in the Collector's Showcase of Kitchen Collectibles: Appliances?
The Most Recent Additions to This Category are First!
This 1950s model 1504 Toaster Broiler electric kitchen appliance by Silex has never been used and comes in its original box with all packing materials and paperwork. It's made of black plastic and copper-colored brushed aluminum. I didn't cook anything with it but I did plug it in and the broiler heats up fine. A metallic copper and black panel on one side has suggested heat levels for various cooking functions, the other side has the heat control knob. The broiler is 13 by 8-3/4 by 5-1/4 inches high (without the cook tray in place). The cloth-covered cord is still wrapped in its original coils and the broiler is in great condition. The original box is present and intact, though it does have normal age and storage wear.

This copper plated Grind-O-Mat meat grinder and food chopper by Rival has never been used. It comes mint in its original box with recipe and instruction book dated 1950, all paperwork, and a special copper cleaning pad. Rival produced many of their popular O-Mat kitchen products in a deluxe copper finish beginning in the late 1940s which were priced higher than the chrome and enamel finish models.

The grinder is of course fully functional and unused, but it also makes a wonderful kitchen copper display item as well with it's sleek Industrial Age meets Mid Century Modern design. It's about 8-1/4" high by 8" wide across the bottom, the handle of course adds to the overall size. There are a few minor storage marks to the copper, mostly around the rivet opening at the top of the handle. All parts are present, though one grinder blade is not visible in the photos as it was stored under the base. The box has age discoloration and old tape marks but is intact with no tears. Of note is the Other Rival Products page at the back of the manual which illustrates all the O-Mat products including some I'd never heard of.

This 1950s Model M-200 Hy-Fry Automatic Electric combination deep fryer and slow cooker by has a shiny chrome and brown finish with retro orange, cream, and black graphics on the front panel which lists temperatures and cooking/frying times for various dishes.

The cooker is clean with a bright, shiny finish both inside and out. It works fine and heats up quickly. An aluminum fryer basket is included but does not have the detachable handle. The Pyrex glass lid is spotless with no chips or damage. The cloth covered cord is in excellent condition with no fraying or breaks. There are a few tiny scuff marks to the enameled metal front plate, barely noticeable. About 8-1/2" high not including the glass lid by 11" diameter not including side handles. Made by Reliable Mfg. Co. of Franklin Park Illinois.

This very nice late 1940s General Electric copper and stainless steel electric tea or water kettle is in wonderful condition - spotlessly clean and it works fine. It's the Speed Kettle model 15K20 and holds up to 2-1/2 quarts. The base, handle, and whistling spout cover are brown Bakelite, the lower half is shiny stainless steel, and the upper part of the pot is gleaming copper. The heavy duty cord is in great condition and there are no dents, scratches, or damage to the kettle. I put a little water inside and plugged it in to make sure it works, and it does heat up quickly.

This is a really great and unusual server. The Chrome part of this server was made by the Chase Brass and Copper Co., Montpelier, OH. The base measures 12 inches in diameter without the plastic handles X 5 inches high, and 15 inches in diameter including the handles. The three tab handled Glass inserts each measure 4 1/2 inches high X 5 3/8 inches in diameter. One Glass insert is light green, two are light yellow. The Chrome base is signed CHASE BRASS and COPPER CO, U.S.A., Model 90093 WATTS 660 & 150. Each of the glass inserts are signed OVENGLASS Guaranteed. The three Glass inserts have chrome lids with plastic knobs and there are four plastic feet on the bottom of the warmer. We do not have the plug for the warmer, but the way it is made would be great to fill the base with ice and use as a cold dip server rather than filling it with water as intended. The Chrome is all in very good condition with no damage. The plastic knobs, feet and handles are all very good with no damage. The glass inserts are also excellent with no chips or cracks. We believe this item to be from the 1930s to 1940s.  A sleek, fat Toastmaster toaster from the 1950s. This is an automatic pop up style. In very good working condition. 7x11x5  A 1920s, 1930s flip open toaster. One had to manually turn the toast. This one is in poor condition, with the bottom plate missing and a frayed silk cord. 7x7x4.  Universal toaster, patent dates from 1900-1920. Made by Anders, Frary and Clark, New Britain, Conn. This one that will reverse the toast by cranking the front lever around. 7x7 Have not tried to plug it in, but its a great show piece.

enamel in the original box 2 burners 21 inches long, 12 inches wide and 10 1/2 inches tall over all length is 26 inches kerosene bottle is on the side  This classic model RO-91 Westinghouse roasting oven was produced from 1949 to 1953. The original owner modified the lid handle to a sturdy, non-heat conducting wooden type. I noticed when testing the roaster that the handle makes it much easier to avoid burning your fingers on the glass window panel or the aluminum lid.

The oven measures 2 feet wide handle to handle by about 9 inches high, not including the height of the lid. It comes with a removable gray porcelain enamel liner pan which is 17" by 11-1/2" by 5-1/2 inches deep (interior measurements), as well as an adjustable tiered roasting rack. Both side handles have built in lid holder knobs. Below the red glass "Rudolph Nose" temperature dial is a pull-out tray with a printed cooking time chart for almost any type of food you can think to cook in the oven - even cakes and cookies.

The roaster heats up fine and the cord is in good condition with no splits or breaks. The light bulb for the glass temperature selector dial is burned out. The oven is clean with only a few light rub marks and very small scratches to the white enamel exterior. The side handles have some paint wear and the gray liner pan has some chipping to the enamel finish - two small chips at the inside bottom where the legs of the rack sit, and a couple of larger chips to the outside rim edges. The lid has several small bumps and dings but the dented center appearance in the first photo is some type of freak optical illusion created by shadows and lighting - it's definitely not as beat up as it looks. These ovens were outrageously expensive in their day but they were built to last.

A better quality, heavy duty beauty salon professional hair dryer by Kenmore Sears Roebuck, made in the USA, model number 625-61390, circa 1950s. The heavy weighted base and cone dryer hood are enameled steel. The chromed steel pole is adjustable from 47 to 58 inches in height (top of the dryer hood). The hood tilts fully and there is a hanging control dial so both the stylist and customer can adjust the temperature settings (cold, warm, hot) or turn the dryer on and off without having to reach around or get up.

The base measures 14 inches diameter. The dryer hood is 16 inches high by about 10-1/2" diameter at the opening. The unit is in excellent vintage condition, clean with no dents or dings and little finish wear. The fan and heat controls work fine, though the dryer takes a couple of minutes to reach full heat output on the HOT setting. Weighs 22 pounds before packaging and boxing.

Antique plunger for washing clothe. It was advertised as a "washing Machine". It certainly was better than scrubbing clothes on a washboard, but still....

It is galvanized tin in the shape of a funnel with an interior corrugated piece. Surface rust but still is in good useable shape. 30" long and 9" across.

Kerosene Stove $125.00

1950s Westinghouse Roaster Oven With Rac $179.00

Kenmore Vintage Professional Beauty Salo $199.00

Antique Washing Machine Plunger $25.00

A scary old Kerosene Iron patented 1936 in its original shipping box with complete booklet of instructions. It has been used, but lightly. There is some soot on the side, but the handle is still highly polished and the steel is bright and shiny.   This 1940s McGraw Electric Co. two-slice Toastmaster toaster is the model 1B14. It has brown Bakelite trim and handles, a darkness regulating dial, a shiny chrome finish, and it heats up just fine. The last patent number on the bottom dates to 1941.

The toaster has of course been used but it's extremely display worthy - super clean inside and out. You expect to find a certain amount of old grease or kitchen residue inside any 70 year old appliance, but this one has very little and only on the bottom of the door panel. There are some tiny, hair-fine surface marks to the chrome, the kind that come from regular cleaning and polishing, as well as some pinpoint dark specks near the bread slots but no real scratches. There is one small ding to one upper corner, shown in the next to last photo. You have to be at just the right angle to notice it. The cloth cord and plug are original and in good condition.

When I tested the toaster, I had to lift the lever up myself when the toast was done, it did not seem to want to pop up. These radiant toasters have a setting screw in the center of the light/dark adjustment dial and that may be all that is needed, but you should assume that the pop-up lever needs adjustment or just doesn't work.

This Universal Coffeematic electric coffee pot was made by Landers Frary & Clark in the mid 1950s. Though gently used, it comes complete in its original box. The percolator makes from 4 to 10 cups and has a dial selector for mild, medium, and strong brews.

The 11 inch tall coffee pot has a tall, slender profile with angular Eames era spout and almond painted handle. The gleaming chrome body is spotless with a mirror-bright shine, though there is some scuff wear to the painted handle as shown. It heats up fine, though when making a test pot of coffee I noticed the red window above the brew strength selector does not light up (I'm just assuming it's meant to but possibly not). There's a ring of coffee staining inside at the bottom of the pot and a heat mark to the interior wall about 2 inches above the base where someone apparently left the pot plugged in all day. It left a stain but didn't harm the coffee maker. The cord is fairly long for a Mid Century kitchen appliance at 6 feet - it's in good condition with no splits, damage, or brittleness. The box is in good vintage condition with no tears.

This 1940s electric buffet cooker-server-warmer appliance is called the Buffet Chef. I can't read the manufacturer's name on the bottom, only Toledo Inc. It's quite big at about 11-1/2" diameter, 13-1/2 inches across the handles, by 5-3/4" high to the rim. It holds 3 quarts with plenty of room for stirring. The round base is shiny chrome, the lid and upper shoulder area are spun aluminum. The four feet, side handles, and lid finial are a light colored wood - I'm pretty sure it's oak.

The server heats up well and has a side switch for two heat settings, high and low. The cloth covered cord and plug are in very good condition with no splits, frays, or damage. The cooker is clean and shiny inside and out, though there are some storage scuffs to the aluminum lid.

You might remember this classic Sunbeam Mixmaster in your Mother's or Grandmother's kitchen. If you do, you probably remember the sound of it running making cookies, cakes and pies.

This particular unit is very special as it is working great and is complete with the original white Sunbeam large bowl measuring just over 9 inches across. The bowl has the Sunbeam logo on the bottom. Everything is working as it should on this mixer.

This was the first 12 speed model mixer on the market at that time which was adjusted by turning the large black knob on the back of the machine. There also is a setting to adjust the spinning bowl platform from large bowls to small bowls. The beaters are disconnected and removed by swinging the handle off to the side of the motor. The motor comes off of the stand with the click of a trigger so the motor can be used as a portable mixer in your hand.

The full featured machine with the ultimate dependability of the 1950's. What a piece of yesteryear this machine is.

In its rest position on the stand, the entire mixer measures 14 inches tall by 12 inches long.

This Manning Bowman "Party Urn" chrome and Bakelite electric coffee percolator has a great Art Deco ball shape. The patent numbers on the bottom date to the late 1920s though it was in production through most of the 1930s. It holds 24 cups and does heat up just fine, but the coffee basket and stem are not present.

The Bakelite base, handle insert, and round disk spout decoration are a brick red color. There are two tiny nicks to the Bakelite around the lower edge, very small. The chrome finish is clean and shiny with no corrosion or pitting. There is one tiny pinpoint dimple at the upper front of the urn, midway between the center ringed band and the rim. The lid has a small crease near the rim, and the glass perc top is chipped at the base, completely concealed inside the pot and not visible until pulled out. The cloth covered cord is in great condition with no damage or fraying. The coffee maker is 15 inches tall to the top of the handle, about 10-1/2" at the widest points.

Vintage Fiesta Ware Kitchen Kraft Yellow Mixing Bowl produced by Homer Laughlin Company in 1938-1944 as an extension of their popular Fiesta Ware line. The first Kitchen Kraft bowls were the ivory ones with applied decals (these seem much easier to find) but they quickly added the colorful original Fiesta colors of yellow, red, green and cobalt blue. Unsigned, it has the rings on the outside bottom. This bowl measures 8 1/2'' in diameter amd 4 1/2'' tall. There is a small glaze pop on the top rim and some minor use marks on the inside bottom. There are also 2 glaze flakes on the bottom rim with is cut unevenly (original to the bowl and not use). Overall, this bowl is very attractive and in very good condition for its age and use. This Fiesta Kitchen Kraft bowl will be a nice addition to a Fiesta, Bauer or other 1930s-40s era California potteries collection.  Vintage Fiesta #6 Ivory Mixing Bowl with the hard-to-find inside bottom rings--which dates this as a first year bowl from 1936-37. Marked fiesta, HLC USA, 6 on the bottom. Measures 9'' in diameter and 5 5/8'' tall. There is a chip on the top rim and some minor wear apparent on the inside bottom. The outside also has some light silver marks from stacking and use. Bowl is sound with no cracks or hairlines. Please check all the pictures. These original Fiesta ivory bowls with bottom rings are difficult to find in perfect condition as they were used and price reflects condition.

There is also a Utah State University Extension Home Canning Guide booklet and a heavy aluminum roasting rack which is probably not original to the canner but very nice to have.

The canner has water marks inside but no pitting. The handles are undamaged and the exterior finish is still shiny with a few use marks, nothing serious. The Presto manual is in good condition, the later USU booklet is flimsier and more worn but without writing, tears, or stains. The box has typical storage and upper corner wear but is intact.

Porcelier Basket Weave Pattern with Wildflowers Sandwich Grill. Catalog No. 5004. Very rare. Overall grill is approximately 7-1/2" x 12" x 4-1/2" High. Adjustable metal grill plates have a usable surface of approximately 5" x 9". Overall the grill is in very nice condition. There are two small chips in the porcelain (vitreous china) on the right side just under the metal plate. One is approx. 1/2" x 1/2" and the other is 3/8" x 3/8". They are really not that noticeable - especially for display purposes. There are no other chips, cracks, repairs, or hairlines visible. There is some visible loss of the silver trim on the base. It looks as if someone cleaned the grill plates with possibly a metal sander (?) like you would old cast iron. Includes a cloth cord. The grill still shows very nice and would be a wonderful addition to any collection.

** I also have a toaster listed **

*** Shipping charges will be calculated at time of shipment. Shipping weight will be 20-25#'s boxed weight. The grill will be double boxed. Insurance will be an issue ***    Porcelier Basket Weave with Wildflowers Pattern Toaster. Cat No. 5002. What can I say - it's rare and it's gorgeous. Almost perfect condition. There is very minor wear on the silver highlights. No chips, cracks, repairs, or even hairline cracks except for one minute nick about 1/8" long under the unit on the bottom edge. The porcelain on/off knob is missing. The toaster is operational. The heating elements and the timer work. The pop-up feature does not appear to work correctly, it sticks. The darkness control also works. The original cloth cord is in exceptional condition also.

** Look for the matching sandwich grill **

*** Shipping charge will have to be determined when sold. Appoximate shipping weight will be 15-20# and the toaster will be double boxed and oversized. Insurance will be a factor. ***     General Electric Automatic Vacuum Coffee Maker with Pyrex bowls. Cat No. 129P8. Black Bakelite lid with handle with red locking dial on upper bowl. The top lid locks on with the twist of a dial. Black Bakelite swing-away lid and handle on lower bowl. The swing away lid has some small chipping on the underside lip. Includes Black Bakelite stove and cord. Red cup marking on the bottom bowl. The number 2 fluid level shows some wear. 3-silver bands around top and bottom bowl. Glass rod and rubber seal. Ceramic disc for filter snaps into the top bowl. There is an unusual snap on metal pices that goes into/onto the lower tube. I have no idea what the function of it is. The entire unit is in very good condition. The rubber seal still seems pliable. The cord may not be original. It is not marked GE like others I have. Also, I think the cord should have been cloth at this date. The stove unit has a weight sensor (magnetic trigger?). There is a small piece of the ceramic on the stove that is chipped off. I plugged the stove in and it does not appear to be operational. It heats up some but the coils do not turn red, nor does it seem it will heat up enough to make coffee. Overall, this vacuum coffee maker is still a wonderful display piece and would make a nice addition to any collection.     Vintage Dominion Style #1350. Dual chromed waffle maker with wood (solid walnut) handles. Insized design on top with heat/bake gauges on each. Unique dual cloth cord with one plug and two heating element connections - can be used in tandem or singly for only one waffle. Makes two 5-1/4" x 4-1/2" waffles. Overall very nice condition. It is in "as found" condition. I did test and the unit does heat on both units. The waffle iron does show signs of usage. I mildly cleaned the chrome to determine condition. There are minor spots of corrosion, mostly on back rim. The chrome is nice and shiny, free of dents or major scratching. There is some baked on food/stains that I did not attempt to clean off. The original cloth cord is still in good condition with minor thread breakage in several spots but is not worn through. Circa mid 1930's to early 1940's.

Corning Ware Model #P-80-EP 10 Cup Coffee Maker. Blue Cornflower pattern. Complete with base, basket & stem, strainer, heater element, cord, and lid. There was a voluntary recall of these units in the 1970. Apparently the epoxy that held the handle on the ceramic could separate. Use at your own risk.  A #50 Enterprise sad iron from the 19th century. It is one of the irons that was kept heated on the stove and the handle was clamped on when needed. See my listing for the Enterprise Iron with detachable handle. With this invention, the laundress would lose no time waiting for the iron to heat up, nor would the handle become too hot to use. This was real cutting edge! This sad iron weighs 5 lbs before packing and is 6.5" long and 1.75" high. In excellent useable condition.  Beautiful unused Silex Vacuum Coffee Maker. Pyrex bowls. Dark brown/black Bakelite top lid, handles, scalloped trim on bottom bowl, trim on heater, and tray. Includes original cloth cord, filter assembly, and (copy)instructions. The filter is a porcelain disc covered with a flannel cloth held in place with a spring, stem, and hook & chain assembly. The unit appears to have never been used. The original Silex silver paper label is still on the bottom pot, as well as the Pyrex green ink label. The rubber is still pliable and the heater operates. Circa 1930. Note: The cream and sugar that are shown are not included. They are Anchor-Hocking Wexfod pieces, which are sold separately.  Vintage Silex/Pyrex Vacuum Coffee Maker with stove & cord, highly decorative chrome trim & stove, chrome handle, separate pour spout, cloth filter, appears unused with orig Pyrex green logo on base unit, ca 1940's

Vintage Silex / Pyrex Vacuum Coffee Make

Chromed unit with stylish incised design and chocolate brown Bakelite handles. Overall wonderful condition. The chrome is in mirror like condition with no pitting and very minimal scratching from storage. The inside grids look they were only used maybe once or twice, if at all. The Bakelite handles are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Alas, the original cord got separated and a new replacement cord is being provided. Circa late 1930's to 1940's.  Chromed unit with brown Bakelite base and knobs and cloth cord. Overall wonderfully remarkable condition. Very minimal scratching and pitting on chrome. Could not get any to show well in the photos. There are no chips or cracks on the Bakelite. There is no fraying on the cord. The toaster is fully operational. The conveyor belt like (teeth) mechanism is fully functional. It's fantastic to watch the toast pass through from one end to the other through the glass window, called a Wind-O-Spy. Circa late 1940's - I'm guessing based on the cloth cord and the fact that the factory was converted to military production during WWII  Sunbeam Model T-9 Toaster. Beautiful art deco styling, first displayed at the 1939 World's Fair. Chromed unit with black Bakelite handles and trim. Unique incised design with a faceted glass jewel that lights up on the front when the coils heat. Upside down the incising appears futuristically as T9. Controls for Light/Dark, Keeps Toast Warm & Pops Toast Up. Overall wonderful condition with very minimal scratching. No damage to Bakelite trim or knobs. I have only mildly polished to determine condition. Original cloth cord. The unit did not have the cardboard cover on the end of the plug so I made one. When I plugged it in the coils heated. Later when I went to fully test the operation of the toaster, the coils did not heat up. The unit appears to be non-operational at present and should be used as beautiful display piece only. I highly recommend refurbishing if you want to use. I can recommend a company that can completely refurbish and bring up to code. Circa 1940.  Sunbeam Model T-9 Toaster. Beautiful art deco styling, first displayed at the 1939 World's Fair. Chromed unit with black Bakelite (?) handles and trim. Unique incised design with a faceted glass jewel that lights up on the front when the coils heat. When the toaster is upside down, the incising appears as a stylistic T9. Controls for Light/Dark, "Keeps Toast Warm" or "Pops Toast Up". Overall very nice condition with minimal scratching. One piece of the Bakelite base/leg is broken. Someone (previous owner ?) put their name on the bottom on black marker. I have only mildly polished to determine condition. Original rubber or plastic coated wire cord. I suspect circa is late 1940's to early 1950's because of cord. (Unless of course the cord has been replaced). Operational but I would use with caution due to age or have refurbished.

Vintage Toastmaster Model 1A4 Toaster. Beautifully styled chromed single slice toaster. Light/dark control knob . Brown Bakelite (?) knobs. Front knob appears to be a replacement, but not sure, it is different than the back (no function) knob. The clockwork timer would tick loudly as the front lever slowly rises until the toast "pops-up". Unfortunately the mechanism is not currently operational. If you want a working unit, I can recommend a refurbisher. Original cloth cord. Mfg Waters-Genter of Minneapolis, MN. Circa 1934 for this S/N 794208 (between Aug 1934 & Aug 1935). Overall very nice condition. I mildly surfaced cleaned to determine overall condition. There is some light scratching and several pit/rust spots, the worst of which I tried to show. I hope to look this good when I'm almost 75 years old  Vintage Dominion Waffle Iron Style #1354. Dual chromed waffle maker with attached oval undertray. Wood (solid walnut) handles.
