was a green wooden handle but in worn and the rest is metal is 5 3/4 inches by 4 1/4 inches  White footed with navy edge triangle shaped, 10" widest point x 2 3/4" tall, small chips in 3 places along edge, at 2 corners and 3 spots on bottom.  This is a bakelite handle corkscrew, definitely a vintage piece, likely made in the 1940's or 1950's. The handle was made to look in the fashion of carved or whittled wood or bone with the bakelite "butterscotch" or amber color showing at the two ends and the center molded and painted black. The handle is slightly angled (not level straight across) and cone-shaped or narrower at one end than the other, as a natural piece of wood or bone might be. The cork screw measures about 5 inches in length from the outside top of the handle to the bottom tip of the spiral at the base, with the handle measuring about 3 5/8 inches in length and about 7/8 inch in width at its widest point. There is no manufacturer marking. You can see the round head of the nail used to hold the handle onto the metal piece visible on one side. We've provided 5 images to try and show from all sides, with a close-up of the handle itself. Please note that the white "hot spots" are lighting reflection from the camera on the glossy surfaces.

Very nice condition for a piece that was used as intended. There is much expected use wear to the handle and to the metal stem...this piece is not "mint". The handle has no large chips, cracks, breaks, pieces missing, etc. But it does have much wear via many little scratches, rubbed marks/areas, scraped dot and line areas, tiny rim flakes on the handle ends, tiny white dots from scrapes, blackened areas on the ends, etc...a general used "look" as to be expected for a piece that has been worked with effort to open bottles. The metal portion also shows expected use wear including many tiny scratches, scraping, several tiny indented lines/spots, pitting/many pin & pit dots, black dots, etc. There is a touch of rust on the nail head holding the handle to the stem, and on the stem near the handle. Also the bottom tip of the screw portion, while still sharp and usuable, has a bit of the metal chipped off at the tip. None of this is bad and to us it all adds to the great antique used look of this old piece.

A nifty addition to any cork screw collection or a collection of bakelite kitchen utensils or items.

Please note that we have other corkscrews, Bakelite pieces and many other kitchen items listed separately for sale. If you wish to purchase more than one, please e-mail us before placing the order since the shipping information has been inputted for a purchase of just one and will not calculate the savings you would get when purchasing more than one shipped together in the same package (we will need to handle this for you).  An antique wood and metal corkscrew (cork screw). Beautiful medium-colored wood handle (we don't know which wood it is), tube-shaped with rounded ends, wood grain visible throughout. Measures 4 1/4 inches in length from outside top edge of handle to bottom point of spiral, about 3 1/2 inches in width of handle and about 5/8 inch in depth of wood handle.

The metal portion looks to be one piece of thick metal wire which has been twisted into shape. It loops over the handle and then twists under it, but isn't "lock tight" around the wood so you can move the wood around vertically slightly (up or down as if rolling) about a quarter turn (it's not a problem, handle isn't "loose" or going to come out, but we thought you should know it isn't "solidified" in one place). This corkscrew must have been used with some force because the bottom spiral portion has been visibly twisted to one side a bit...it no longer spirals straight down in a line. We've provided 5 images to show from all angles.

Besides the bend discussed, the vintage corkscrew is in nice old used condition. The wood handle has a terrific, rich old look, with the graining hiding most look of wear. There is age/use darkening, scratches in the wood (most visible on the darkened ends), an indented tiny curved line in the center of one end, other surface indents on the ends (these don't look like chips, just perhaps some very small indents due to use), a few white dots, etc...but really nothing bad nor unexpected for an antique piece which was used. The metal portion has an old look with light rust/light orange rust spotting throughout a good portion, and the interior of the end spiral looks like it may have been chipped with use, although still very pointy and very usable.

A nice find which would make a good addition to a collection of vintage corkscrews and other old wood and wood handled kitchen utensils or kitchen collectibles.

Please note that we have other corkscrews and many other kitchen items listed separately for sale. If you wish to purchase more than one, please e-mail us before placing the order since the shipping information has been inputted for a purchase of just one and will not calculate the savings you would get when purchasing more than one shipped together in the same package (we will need to handle this for you).
