Lamps and Lighting: Victorian

What's New in the Collector's Showcase of Lamps and Lighting: Victorian?

Eagles are marked 1776 on the front below their talons. The set bears the patent date of 1968 came from Colonial Virginia. These were quite popular in the sixties and seventies and still are today. Unlike most you’ll see, this pair of Patriotic Eagles have been wonderfully converted into candle lamps and then made even nicer by the addition of the gorgeous pair of vintage mold formed plastic sconces which also date to the 60’s and bear their maker’s marks as well. Wing to wing, each eagle measures 5 ½ inches across and stands 5 ½ inches tall. The sconces are 8 1/8 wide by 8 3/8 high, so when you add the candles and bulbs, the set is roughly 20 inches tall; (depending on the bulbs you use or if you add shades they will be even taller.)

We had to do a minor repair to one eagle. The metal had begun to crack where the candle base was mounted into it. Most likely the lamp was dropped, causing the damage. Never fear, except for a slight difference in the thickness of the back panel, the lamp is ready to serve for decades to come without any problems.

Signed Banquet or Parlor lamp from the 1890's Lamp stands 23 1/2 inches tall, Brass base, Shade is frosted and pink at the top ruffles. B & H marked, it makes a beautiful lamp for any home.  The lamp is about 3 3/4 inches high and 3 inches wide. The inside threaded top measures inside 3/4 inch. Could do with a bit of cleaning but otherwise perfect.  Pair of just gorgeous Victorian Luster Mantel Lamps. Intricately hand cut-crystal prisms dangle from each bowl. This makes the light shimmer and sparkle. This pair is 22 inches tall, base measures 5 1/2 inches x 5 inches. The longest crystal measures 10 1/4 inches tall

Another fine looking antique Gone With the Wind table lamp that makes me think of Spring. This large lamp features a huge glass base that has been hand painted with roses so lovely you might think you can smell the blooms. The Oil Lamp has an unusual font that I believe was rebuilt with a new cup after the old one wore out. It looks like a heavy old tin can was soldered onto the fitting and I also think there should be an inner font holder inside the glass base, but I did not have one on hand. It works fine without, so you can simply keep on the lookout for a font holder and use it anyway with no worry until you do find one.... or not. This old lamp stands 22 inches to the top of the chimney and will make a wonderful gift for that certain someone.  Here is a lovely red satin glass antique Gone with the Wind Parlor or Table type Oil Lamp that is ready to shed its soft light in a room of your choosing. The font is all brass and marked , Made in US of America. There has been a repair to the font cup, but it is a good seal and will only be seem on the rare occasions when the font has to be removed to clean inside the glass lamp base. This lamp has been refurbished with a new wick and leak tested so its is back to great working condition. The lamp stands approximately 21 inches tall to the top of the chimney and the brass font is ready to be filled with your favorite oil and lit as soon as the center draft wick has drawn the oil to the top, you can light this fine old piece and enjoy the warm glow of a long ago time and place.

One of the most impressive, beautiful antique Piano or Organ style Free Standing Antique Floor Lamps I have ever seen. The height of the font is adjustable, meaning the lsmp height can be set anywhere from 59 to 77 inches, floor to top of shade. Still has the original Consolidated Oil Font & Burner, and this lamp was never converted to electric. The table top is made from one solid piece of 13 x 13 inch solid Marble, while the frame and stand are fine polished brass. As I mentioned, the height of this amazing lamp can be adjusted up or down by simply squeezing the brass lever located at the base of the font holder. As soon as you release the lever, the lamp locks into place at that height.

The only other markings I have found so far is the patent date stamped on the brass coupling that connects the font holder to the stand. It reads, Nov. 15, 87. The burner is also marked with patents from the 1890's, made in US America on the burner knob, and Consolidated, on the flame spreader.

This is not only a very old oil lamp table, it has obviously well been cared for throughout it's life.

This awesome lamp is crowned by a fabulous antique Fenton Pink Swirl glass shade that measures 8 1/2 wide and just shy of 10 inches tall. The shade has some small chips and flea bites on the fitter ends,of which the largest is picture. There are no cracks or beginning thereof that I can find, so this lovely Fenton pink swirl shade is quite ready and able to top off this incredible lamp for another 100+ years.

The marble top is set at 30 1/2 inches above the floor and the decorative and very heavy brass legs are spaced 16 inches on center. The feet are figural and have holes for attaching and stabilizing the entire lamp.

My last word about this lamp?... amazing.. see for yourself..>>  Once again we have been fortunate in finding another lovely antique parlor or table lamp that features darling cherub who seems to be slowly making his way through a garden or vineyard. The lamp is cast metal and the finish is aged gold with some reddish tones mixed in. The frosted and cut glass shade adds even more class to this special little lamp. Total height is 18 inches

Antique Vanity Lamp. Angelic Cherub in G $159.00

Here we have a tall, slender, lovely 1950's table lamp made by Aladdin. This beautiful lamp is not easy to describe and that is because there are so many unique features just begging to be mentioned. First of all this is an ALADDIN table lamp; Aladdin can be found in raised relief on the base. A Small intricate, bouquet of flowers is hand painted on both sides of the lamp body and even though this lamp is an antique, it remains in wonderful, usable condition.

What makes this lovely old lamp even more special is the embroidered cloth shade with ball shaped tassels. The lamp stands 18 inches tall from the bottom to the top of the socket, then add another 10 inches for the shade shade the whole piece stands a little over 28 inches tall.

I think I have done all I can to describe this gorgeous lamp and if you will look through the photos, I am sure you'll see why I said this incredible old Aladdin custards glass and hand painted lamp is not an easy piece to describe.

Oh yes, please note the lines that at first look like hairline cracks shown in the photo of the lamp base. These are not cracks, they are some sort of molding imperfection. They do not go through the glass and kind of remind me of the mark one makes when removing a brush bristle from partially dried paint.  Presenting another beautiful antique bulbous shaped glass ceiling shade in EXCELLENT ~ PRISTENE CONDITION!! The glass is encased by ornately designed metal framework. It was painted gold, but as you see some of the gold has been worn away. At the top with those horizontal crossbands, they can be pulled apart and the metal will come away from the glass. You can respray/retouch the paint if you prefer.

I hope that you can see the beautiful pattern of the criss-cross bands of white over clear glass. Seems like it is an elegant glass, believe it could possibly be Italian Art Glass by Murano. Possibly the style of Paolo Venini. Certainly the design on the glass is like filigrana tqisted white and clear. You can see that the metal cage was put together, then a talented glass blower worked the glass from the inside to create this beautiful piece.

Measures 5-1/2 inches wide in diameter, approx. 6 inches deep/high.

Very intricate round raised beads of round circles of various sizes. Lots of them! Very elegant, looks like thousand eyes. The underside/inside of the shade is finished off in white to add interest when this piece gets lighted.

Measures 10 inches wide in diameter, approx. 4 inches deep/high. (This shade is the older ones that were attached to the ceiling to a metal housing that is held up by three long chains. You need to supply that. One of our pictures shows what it would look like once put together.) You are buying the shade only. We do not have the housing for this. (They are readily found as parts on Ebay.)

**REASONABLE OFFERS ENTERTAINED!!**  Another fine looking antique Gone With the Wind style table lamp that reminds me of the coming spring and after all the wind driven snow that hammered this part of Pennsylvania and about everyone else in the Mid Atlantic region, Spring can not come to soon for me. This lamp features pansies, as well as other flowers, all set against a sky blue background. The burner is somewhat unusual and seems to have been built to go with this lamp. Once again I will give credit to my wifeJacki for her help in saving another antique lamp that had been without its shade for longer than anyone in the family where we acquired it was able to recall. The shade was repainted not to exactly duplicate the base, but to blend together with the old painting to bring back some of the colors that had faded with time. This shade will fool you because even though it looks quite heavy, it is actually and early plastic shade that just fit so well we decided we had to use it with this lamp. Ten inches wide by 20 inches tall; (not counting the extra height the chimney provides, this is a perfectly sized lamp to fit into those areas where a larger lamp of this kind could not be used.

Old GWTW Oil Table Lamp. Pansies, Sky Bl $245.00

This gorgeous antique Gone With the Wind style table lamp has a wonderful theme of sailing on the open water combined with pretty spring flowers. The sky blues, The shadings. The delicate blend of colors. All add up to a vision of the kind of day you never forget. My lovely wife Jacki was kind enough to recreate the theme that was lost when the top shade got broken many years ago. I think she did a marvelous job of painting the antique milk glass globe to go with the base as another once had done. The lamp has a dual wick oil burner and bears the B&H markings on the filler cap. Just a really nice, day at the beach scenic lamp.  This exquisite old table lamp features a wonderful cherub holding a tiny dove in his hand. Above his head sits a rare Fenton Diamond Opalescent Ball Shade in the most incredible Aqua Marine or Turquoise color I have ever seen. In order not to overpower the camera, we took these photos with only a 15 watt bulb installed in the lamp, but it has been rewired and upgraded to handle either up to a 60 watts standard or even a three way bulb. The lamp has a wonderful age patina and just the right amount of cracked and missing gold paint, which contrasts beautifully with the bright brass shade holder and accent ring. The Fenton opalescent aqua marine, or turquoise glass shade is one of the most rare colors and patterns made by Fenton. It measures roughly 7 by 9 and is in near mint condition, with only the tiniest of flea bites on the rims. Total height of this lamp is 18+ inches. Just imagine how many different ways this lamp could be put on display.  An absolutely spectacular Moreau figural oil lamp that features a handsome young man returning home from the market after peddling his wares. It must have been a good day for the young peddler, because he holds a fistful of shining coins and is carrying an empty basket. This gorgeous work of art was in rough shape when found, but it was simply too fabulous to be sold in its previous condition. The damage included several missing fingers and one thumb, plus some toes and part of a knee, but on top of that someone had converted this lovely old oil lamp over to electric. It took a great many hours but sometimes a piece that most would call a loss, we find in us a need to bring the past back to life. I have yet to actually locate any remnants of Moreau's markings, but the work and the facial expression on the young man are unmistakably Moreau. The overall height is 36 inches with the figure of the boy standing 19 off the table to the top of his curly blond head. More than a lamp. This is a real antique work of art.  perfect, no chips or cracks condition with Globe, P&A burner, some kero residue left to be cleaned, made by Dominion Glass Co, Montreal, circa 1900

Here is a really stunning old floor lamp.

The base and stand appear to be the original black with gold trimmings and three lovely bend arm candles that have their original black candle covers as well provide the light. There is a specially designed mount that supports this gorgeous red fringed shade. Its one lamp that cannot be missed by anyone passing by.

'This lamp will require being taken apart for shipping, but we will be sure to provide all the help you'll need to put it together and enjoy it.

Beautiful old porcelain wall sconces hand painted in soft shades of fern greens and gold, highlighted with tiny dark red cranberries. New sockets and thumb-turn switches have been installed. For safety, the old style outlet plugs on the underside have been disabled. Now these classic porcelain wall scone lights are ready for you to hang and enjoy.  These have got to be near the top of my list for being well cared for. Although the wiring and style points to these sconces originating in the late 30's to early 40's, you'd hardly ever know if by looking at them. With the exception a just few minor scuffs and scrapes, these brass candle sconces are as good as new. The wiring is not damaged and the switches work great. They are each 6 inches high and only stand 4 inches off the wall, so they can be used in almost any area, even tight fitting hallways or a guest bath. I may retake these photos after I get a shipment of candle covers and bulbs to show how this nice old wall lights look when lit. I'll also straiten the bases, which are tight, but must have been jostled in handling to look slightly crooked. Can't have that huh? <smile> You’ll have to look long and hard to find a nicer, cleaner, better kept old pair of sconces than these. Thanks for stopping by. JM  Here is a lovely pair of vintage electric candle sconces, wonderful solid brass that has been sand cast by Virginia Metalcrafters. This pair is actually one of two sets of identical sconces; so if you are interested in more than two, please check our other listing in this same category. Made in the same style and with the same methods as their ancestors, the craftsmen of Virginia show their amazing talents in the work displayed in these gorgeous brass candle sconces. Tested and ready to wire, these large; over a foot tall, and very heavy old sconces will make a dazzling addition to someone's home.
