Library and Office: Typewriters

What's New in the Collector's Showcase of Library and Office: Typewriters?
The Most Recent Additions to This Category are First!
1960's Alder Portable Typewriter in Case & Manual. The condition is very good. The case has a few scuffs is very clean as well as the machine. The ink ribbon is a bit light. May need to be replaced however it could just be that it has been sitting so long and the ink will darken once the machine gets some action.  This manual typewriter definitely carries the clean lines look of the 1970's. It is a very light and attractive typewriter. This machine does not have a carrying case.

Everything is working on this machine and it appears to have been used very little as it is in pristine condition. The typewriter has a very light touch to it and it operates smoothly.

This typewriter has a good ribbon on it and ribbons for most of these old manual typewriters can be found in my store by searching under the category of TYPEWRITER SUPPLIES. The type style font on this typewriter is clean looking and attractive. See the photos for reference.

This lovely old 1929 portable Underwood STANDARD typewriter has wonderful ambiance and is most unusual color. This typewriter has been serviced and is ready to go to work if anyone has the will to use a manual typewriter again or it would make a great display piece. It is also a highly revered collector item. The type is a small typestyle as shown in the photos.

This particular typewriter comes complete with its original carrying case which still has the original leather handle. This Standard machine model was the first FOUR BANK machine by Underwood which meant it has 4 rows of keybuttons rather than only 3 rows.

What a great yesteryear display this typewriter will make AND it is also functional. The typewriter itself measures 10 inches wide, 10 inches deep and 5 inches tall. The typewriter has GLASS COVERED KEYS for a smooth typing touch.

This typewriter has a good ribbon on it and ribbons for these old manual typewriters can be found in my store under the Typewriter Supplies section.

MADE IN THE USA: Wow! Can you believe this wonderful antique typewriter find? This manual typewriter definitely carries the nostalgic look of the early days of typewriter mania. It is the Corona No. 3 folding model design. Corona was the forerunner to the Smith-Corona typewriters when it join forces with the L.C. Smith typewriter company in the 1930's.

There are several wonderful and nostalgic features that makes this machine very special and quite a museum piece. One notable feature is the placement of the characters on the keyboard layout. This typewriter also has the GLASS KEYS which are really a collectible item these days. This makes for a great feel to the keyboard.

In addition, the typewriter has a double-shift carriage. One shift key is for the figures and numbers, another shift key is for capital letters. To accomplish this with the 28 key-button keyboard, there are THREE characters on each typebar, not just two characters like the more modern machines.

Another collectible feature is that this typewriter folds over onto itself so it will fit inside a very tiny carrying case that only measures 12 inches wide by 10 inches deep and 4.5 inches tall. See the photos for how this machine folds up. Amazing!

This typewriter is probably not good for heavy typing as it is very old and the character placement on the keyboard is not what we are used to typing with these days. However, this machine is very rare and most unusual to find one that is in working condition with all the parts contained therein. It would make a great display piece or for a collectible investment. This is a rare model Corona so not only are there not many around, most I have seen on the internet are either missing parts or missing the carrying case. This machine is indeed complete!

This particular machine has an original ribbon tin with it as shown in the photos.

A typewriter expert has written about this machine: Once declared by Hemingway as the only psychiatrist he would ever submit to, the Corona No. 3 was an instant success when it debuted in 1912. Based on the Standard Folding Model of 1906, the No. 3 was refined in this even lighter and more compact machine made mostly from aluminum. The No. 3 has three banks of keys and a double carriage shift, one for capitals and the other for figures. Another unique feature in the typewriter's design is the machine's ability to fold in order to fit in the carrying case -- that is, the carriage is hinged and could tuck forward over the keyboard and become more compact for storage. The machine was so practical that is was chosen by British Army in WWI.

This model only had one shift key on the left side of the keyboard only.

It also comes with the original tools which appears to be a screwdriver in a metal tube. This is too cool!
