This is a Norman Rockwell 1977 Christmas Collector Plate that is 8 1/2 in. diameter. This plate is made in the US by Royal Devon. The name of this plate is THE BIG MOMENT, also known as Grandpa's Gift and is in Mint Condition: A Classic pose of a Grandfather letting his grandson look in his big winter coat pockets for his gift. He's looking in the wrong one, with the bulldog puppy patiently sticking his head out of the other one. It states on back The original work of art was painted by Norman Rockwell for use as a Saturday Evening Post Cover of January 25, 1936. Presume never mass produced... Nice matte finish, so colors are not bright & reflective, & rim is imperfectly painted but very nice nonetheless, & very close to 1-of-a-kind. Description of Piece: "Applause" portrays the wild Firedancer driven to even higher limits of her dance by the approval and admiration of her audience. The dancer, flashing in fire tones of red, orange, and yellow, dominates the spotlight of the purest, whitest porcelain. A heavy band of gold echoes the flowing streamers only to be interrupted by many pairs of clapping hands. Artist Biogrpahy: The designs created by Erte during his long and illustrious life influenced not only the world of theatre, film and fashion, but an entire art movement as well. The genius of the artist is evidenced by an enormous body of work that is considered among the most influential and unique of the 20th century. Erte - Romain de Tirtoff - was born in Russia in 1892, and died at age 97 in 1990. His legendary career spanned nearly the entire length of his life. In 1912, Erte moved to Paris and his unique talent was immediately recognized by the city's most established couturiers. In 1915, he began an association with Harper's Bazaar by designing covers of each of their magazines for the next 22 years. The influence of his work as a result of the high visibility of this periodical influenced an entire art movement that was to become known as Art Deco. Throughout this period, the artist also created original costume and fashion designs for many of the era's most renowned screen actresses, including Joan Crawford, Lillian Gish, Marion Davies, Anna Pavlova, Norma Shearer and others. His creations for the stage included extravagent designs for productions at such venues as New York's Radio City Music Hall, the Casino de Paris and the Paris Opera, as well as for the Folies-Bergere and George White's Scandals. At the age of 75, Erte was encouraged to embark on a new career and began to recreate the remarkable designs of his youth in bronze and serigraphy. The Art Deco movement was hence reborn. It has gold trim on the rim with a winter farm scene. This is a collector plate by American Greetings Corp. and is marked Lasting Memories, Fine Porcelain, American Greetings Corp., Cleveland, Ohio 44144. It reads The Beauty Of Christmas Fills The World With Joy. It measures 6.25 inches in diameter. There are no cracks and no chips, it is in excellent condition. PDP691.  This beautiful plate is number 52 of 3,000 made. It was designed by Robert C. Smith. 10-5/8" diameter. Gold trim is like new and no scratches or chips. Reads "Bicentennial Of The United States Constitution 1787-1987 U. S. House of Representatives Member 100th Congress January 6, 1987 Robert C. Smith New Hampshire" on the front with the seal of the U.S. House of Representatives in the center. On the back it reads "This Lenox Limited Edition Plate was personally designed by Congressman Robert C. Smith, Lenox Limited Edition Plate 52 of 3,000", under that is the Lenox backstamp. Comes in the original box which isn't in the best condition as the corners of the cover have come apart but the bottom is fine. Thanks for looking!
