Memorabilia: Black

What's New in the Collector's Showcase of Memorabilia: Black?
The Most Recent Additions to This Category are First!
This hand made 1950s Black Americana Mammy doll was meant to be used as a toaster or appliance cover in the kitchen, but she'll display beautifully on your dresser bureau or on a shelf as well. She wears a full black and white cotton gingham dress with white rick rack edging and has a matching kerchief. Her apron is sheer white cotton dotted Swiss. Under her skirt is a padded flat fabric covered piece of square wood to help her sit upright on top of a toaster or other surface.

The Mammy doll's pretty face is hand painted stiffened and molded linen, stuffed with paper. Her dark brown bangs are some type of real hair but I'm not sure if it's human or animal. There are a couple of spots on her dress as shown, no tears or damage. The skirt, apron, and kerchief can be removed for laundering if desired. The doll is about 15 inches high to the hem of her skirt.

This vintage late 1930s to 1940s Valentine greeting card is a heart shape diecut with a little black boy in a bowler derby hat and short denim overalls playing a horn or trumpet. The phrase reads "Jest "horning in" on Valentine's Day". Inside is a red-on-white litho illustration of the boy holding a musical baton with heart shape musical notes surrounding him on the top half. The bottom half has the verse in script: "I hopes you'll let me "lead" right up To what I has to say! De question is: Has I a chance To win your heart today?". The back is signed From Alfreda C. The card was taken from an album and has a strip of tape with black paper in the center and some white paper smudges at the tops. The front and inside are both fine with no damage, tears, or wear.
