A Simon The Chipmunk glass tumbler. 6 in. tall. Marked Bagdasarian Productions. Dated 1985. No damage. Colors are bright.  This is a VINTAGE circa 1980's real photograph of CHER.

This was purchased from a professional photographer and collector. I only know that it was printed about 25 years ago on fine photographic paper. He had more of the same--many different people and genres.

SIZE:

Approx 8" x 10"

CONDITION:

Excellent with no damage or tears. Glossy color. From an angle, you can see a few light spots--maybe a tiny bit of water.  This is a vintage 1899 letter signed by Dion Boucicault--actor, playwright and theatre director and manager.

Dion Boucicault Jr (1859-1929) was the son of the famous Scottish actress, Agnes Robertson (1833-1916), and the influential Irish actor and playwright (Dion Boucicault Sr.) whose name he shared. Married to Irene Vanbrugh.

The typed letter is on the 'Royal Court Theatre' letter head stationery, embossed in blue. Sloane Square, S. W. It is dated August 25th, 1899. His hand-signed signature is in a soft black ink and is approx. 2.50" long.

The letter reads:

August 25th, 1899

Dear Miss Noble,

I enclose you the part of "The Princess" in Mr Marshalls play. I need not say that I rely upon you not to show it to anyone except Miss Vanbrugh. If you will kindly let me know when you will return I will arrange a day to run through it with you.

Yours very truly,

Dion Boucicault

The letter is addressed to Miss Noble who was a performer actress. The 'Miss Vanbrugh' referred to is Irene Vanbrugh who was established as being one of the great stars of London's West End, and who married she married Dion Boucicault in 1901.

I believe the Mr Marshall referred to is the playwright Robert Marshall (1863-1910) also known as Capt. R. Marshall who's plays were produced starting in 1899. He is best known for The Second in Command, 1915 and The Unforseen, 1917.

Regarding the play, The Princess; I could not find anything specific.

Could this be Gilbert's 'The Princess' (a blank verse farcical play) or Gilbert & Sullivan's 'Princess Ida'? It was being played at Drury Lane in 1884.

There is a rumor that some of the collection I am selling belonged to Tyrone Guthrie (who founded the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis) because he acted & directed the Shakespeare Birthday Festival at the Old Vic Theatre in London with Alec Clunes, Rachel Kempson, Basil Coleman, Henry Baynton, Morland Graham, Jill Esmond, Irene Vanbrugh, Gyles Isham, Stephen Murray, George Hayes, Lawrence Baskomb, Malcolm Keen, Leo Genn, Stuart Burge, Michael Gough, Dorothy Green, Margaretta Scott, Michael Redgrave, Vivienne Bennett, Alec Guiness, Jessica Tandy, Ivy St. Helier, Harcourt Williams, Edith Evans, Ruth Gordon, George Howe, Martita Hunt, Ursula Jeans, Esmond Knight, Laurence Olivier. Some of which I have memorabilia from.

SIZE:

8" x 10"

CONDITION:

Very good. It has been folded and has an overall wrinkling effect, which is not from being crinkled up but just from the paper naturally expanding and contracting. There are no tears on any of the folds and no holes. Just a little corner wear but still intact.

The paper is thin but tough, almost like parchment paper. The paper's watermark can be seen under light and it is "W ? & Co Extra Strong 3009". This grouping of memorabilia has been kept flat, in boxes.

BIO:

Dion Boucicault Jr. (1859-1929) was an actor and stage director. Son of the well-known playwright, Dion Boucicault Sr., he followed his father into the theatrical profession and made a career as a character actor and a director. In addition to extensive work in the West End of London, he spent considerable time in Australia, where he went into management in the 1880s.

As an actor, his greatest successes included Trelawney of the Wells and Mr. Pim Passes By. His best-known success as a manager was Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up, of which he presented the premiere and many revivals. His last big success was Lilac Time in 1922.

Dion Boucicault, Jr., was born in New York, the third child of Dion Boucicault, the well-known actor and dramatist, and his wife, Agnes Kelly née Robertson (1833-1916), who was also well known on the stage. He had two elder siblings, Dion William (1855-1876), Eva (1857-1909), and three younger siblings, Patrice (b.1862), Nina (1867-1950), the first actress to play Peter Pan, and Aubrey (1868-1913) a handsome and dashing matinee idol.

Boucicault made his stage début in his father's play, Louis XI at Booth's Theatre in New York City on 11 October 1879. His London début was in November 1880, when he played Andy in another of his father's plays, Andy Blake. From then he was constantly on the stage either acting or directing productions. In 1881 and 1882 he appeared at the Court Theatre, and in 1883 he went on tour as the original Harry Marsland in The Private Secretary. He also adapted two plays, My Little Girl (1882) and Devotion (1884), both of which were produced at the Court. In 1885 he went to Australia with his father, and decided to remain there. He entered into partnership with Robert Brough in 1886, and at the Bijou Theatre in Melbourne and the Criterion in Sydney a long series of plays by Robertson, Pinero, Jones and other dramatists of the period was produced with great care and artistry. A fine company was assembled which included Boucicault's sister Nina, afterwards to make a reputation in London, G. S. Titheradge, and G. W. Anson. Though modern comedy was usually played, there was one excursion into Shakespeare, a notable performance of Much Ado About Nothing with Titheradge as Benedick, and Mrs Brough as Beatrice.

Boucicault had invaluable experience both as a producer and as an actor, and when he returned to London in 1896 he was capable of taking any part that his lack of height, 5 ft 7 in did not disqualify him for. On 20 January 1898 he played one of his most successful parts, Sir William Gower, in Trelawney of the Wells, and a long succession of important parts followed, including many characters of "crusty senility". He directed the first production of Peter Pan and other well-known plays by Barrie, Milne and various leading dramatists of the time. From 1901 to 1922, Boucicault was active as a producer, first in partnership with Charles Frohman, and, after Frohman's death, on his own.

Shirley Temple Berry Set, 5 Pc. $45.00

A tumbler 5.5 in. tall. Features Mickey Mouse dancing and musical notes, radio etc. No damage. Marked Walt Disney Co. Best guesstimate is from the 1970's.  This lot of three items is truly from back in the day when country music was called "hillbilly" music! I have no doubt as to the authenticity of these items. They belonged to my Grandmother who would have been in her 60s during this time period. She was a hillbilly music fanatic for as long as I remember. I have other memorabilia she collected from her trips to the Grand Ole Opry, several of her original albums from these artists, as well as a very large scrapbook she made filled with articles, pictures and personal comments about her "hillbillies". Her favorite was Jim Reeves! Oh, and Elvis! Did she love him! Although she didn't much care for the Beatles when they came out, she knew her then teen granddaughter (me!) was in love with them all, and gave me my first Beatles collectible.

The first item is a one sheet program that lists the date and time of the "show" and all the performers. It's dated Sunday, April 28, 1968; Detroit Cobo Arena 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Some of the stars pictured are Hank Williams, Jr. and Willie Nelson. These images are blue on an off white paper. The list of performers, in "Order of Appearance" are:

Hugh X. Lewis

Jeannie Seeley

Grandpa Jones

Hank Williams Jr.

Drifting Cowboys

-intermission-

Willie Nelson

Henson Cargill

The Bill Anderson Show

Jimmy Gately

Don Bowman

Jan Howard

Bill Anderson.

On the back are four autographs, which I believe are:

Johnny Bush (although he wasn't listed as a performer - maybe he filled in for someone else. I did look him up and he was a country music performer during this time period) so I'm not entirely certain about this one even though it's pretty clear

Grandpa Jones

Jimmy Gately

Willie Nelson (who was a short-haired, clean cut younger man back then)

The signatures are all in different pens and colors.

The second item is a "Country Music Souvenir Photo Album" from the same show. Sunday 2 P.M. Show Cobo Hall - April 28, 1968 is handwritten on the front. This souvenir booklet is in great shape with the exception of one small square graphic removed from the next to last page (seen in photo 6). It includes pictures and brief paragraphs about some of the old greats: Chet Atkins, Johnny Paycheck, Dolly Parton, Glen Campbell ("The seventh son of a seventh son...), Tammy Wynette ("One of the newest stars..."), Jimmy Dean, the Carter Family (including June), Loretta Lynn and Willie Nelson to name just a few. Also included are some group shots on stage.

The third item is a "Souvenir Program Country & Western featuring Grand Ole Opry stars" with "Sunday April 23 - 1967" hand written at the top of the cover. This is similar as the first only many of the pictures are larger with longer paragraphs on most, and several pages of pictures with just the performers' pictures with their names below. There are a number of song titles with either a check by them in ink, or underlined. Next to Dottie West's picture, there is a handwritten note: "She sang duets with Jim Reeves 1963".

These will be shipped in a large envelope with cardboard backing to ensure against damage. The autographed page is in a protective plastic sleeve. It will be sent USPS Priority mail, and I will insure the package for the selling price.  A plate commemorating Charles Lindbergh on his trans-atlantic flight in 1927. Measures 8.5 in. diameter.
