Located at 401 7th Avenue in Manhattan, across the street from Pennsylvania Station and Madison Square Garden, the hotel was acquired by the Hotels Statler Company in 1949 and renamed the New York Statler Hotel. Following the sale of all 17 Statler hotels to Conrad Hilton in 1954, the hotel became The Statler Hilton. It operated under this name until the early 1980s, when Hilton sold the hotel and it again became The New York Statler for a brief period, before joining the now-defunct Penta chain in 1984, becoming The New York Penta. This sterling inlaid teaspoon in a floral pattern is marked on the back: E / Sterling Inlaid /HE (Holmes and Edwards).

The terms Sterling Inlay and Sterling Inlaid were used by the Holmes and Edwards Company from late Victorian times until the brand was abandoned by International Silver in the 1960's.

The successor brand, Deepsilver, also was made this way. Flatware would have a small block of sterling set into the piece at the wear points where the piece would rest on the table. This was a method of making the wear less visible. The term and practice has confused people ever since.

In very good condition without dings or dents it measures 5 3/4 inches long with a bowl that is 2 inches by 1 1/8 inches.

An addition to any Sterling Inlaid Spoon Collection.

The Oneida Community was founded by John Humphrey Noyes in upstate New York in 1848. In 1935 the company's name was changed to Oneida Ltd. During the 1960s, Oneida began to focus more on stainless steel flatware, instead of on the more expensive and prestigious silver-plated and sterling flatware that had previously been its hallmark. Technological breakthroughs in the late 1960s allowed Oneida to introduce the first ornate stainless flatware that had a decorative pierced pattern similar to sterling and silver plate. With these more attractive and formal patterns, stainless flatware gained a place in the silver departments of fine department stores. Because stainless was easier to care for and was far less expensive than sterling and silver plate, this new flatware sold briskly, sparking a recovery that led Oneida into a new era of growth. Oneida Ltd. is the world's largest stainless steel and silver-plated flatware maker, serving both the consumer and food service markets. Its operations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and Italy manufacture and market sterling, silver-plated, and stainless flatware, as well as china dinnerware and hollowware (coffee sets and trays).

In very good + condition they do have light scratches from use, as I have shown in my pictures and they both measure 8 inches long.

A wonderful addition to any table setting or Wm.Rogers Collection.

The spoon is beautifully designed with 2 eagles on the top with crossed banners that say National Union and on the back it has a shield filled with stars and stripes.

The founder of Wallace Silversmiths, Robert Wallace was born in Prospect, Connecticut on November 13, 1815.

Having mastered the art of silver craft, Robert Wallace left his apprenticeship, purchased a dilapidated gristmill, and began to produce his own flatware. By 1833, Wallace’s silver shop was up and running. As Wallace was skilled in the art of spoon making, Wallace’s only product was spoons.

Wallace moved his factory from Cheshire, Connecticut to a point on the Quinnipiac River in Wallingford, Connecticut.

The industry continued to grow and eventually assumed large proportions during this period, Wallace produced flatware for such firms as Hall, Elton & Co., Fred R. Curtiss Co., and Meriden Britannia Co.

By 1871, Wallace had purchased the balance of his partner’s shares and together with two of his sons renamed the growing company R. Wallace and Sons Mfg. Co.

The factory added to its products sterling goods and high-grade nickel-silver plated ware, both flat and hollow. Still later, by experiment, Mr. Wallace devised a new process of manufacture from steel. It made a less bulky, firmer, and lighter base for silver plating.

In 1956 R. Wallace and Sons Mfg. Co. purchased the Watson Company and relocated to the "The Watson Co.’s" Wallingford, Massachusetts factory.

As a result of this impressive growth, the renowned Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, Penn. acquired Wallace Silversmiths in 1959. Over the next three decades, the ownership of Wallace Silversmiths would change three more times.

In very good condition it measures 1 1/4 inches by 5 7/8 inches.
