A Swastika 2" lapel stickpin from WWII. Not marked. Probably only gold tone.   A pair of 10mm shells converted to candlesticks by a bored sailor. So called trench art pieces like this were made by army and navy soldiers and sailors in all wars. This pair of brass candlesticks are from the US Navy during WWII. 5.75" tall. The bottom marks read: AL with an anchor Lot Uo 0620 3-44 10mm MK2

In good unpolished condition.

Reed and Barton 1916 U.S. Army Presentation Mug. Front of the Mug in raised relief is a Soldier armed in a crouch position. Under him says United States Army Military Training Camp Monterey, California with the date 1916. Back of Mug says In Appreciation of Your Unselfish Service to the Citizens Training Camp from the Civil Enrollment Committee California Major Charles H. Hilton C.A.C. U.S. Army. Mug is 4 1/4" high and it's diameter across the bottom is the same as well. It's marked in one spot on the underside with the number 125 and says Reed and Barton. There is an edge around the bottom where it is slightly indented so the bottom is not perfectly round. Mug has what I'm presuming to be a clear bottom that is glass. Would make a fine addition to one's Military collection. Buyer to pay shipping and insurance will be included in the shipping price.

From 1907-15 the uniforms of the German Army went through dramatic changes when Prussian blue was transformed into the new "feldgrau", or field gray. The next change came in 1915 with the introduction of the new field gray wartime and peacetime uniforms. This volume combines three period volumes and each is illustrated in color and refer only to the 1915 wartime and peacetime uniforms: 1. Deutchlands Armee in feldgrauer Kriegs-und-Friedens-Uniform; 2. Feldgrau in Krieg und Frieden, Berlin 1916; 3. Die Feldgrau Friedens-und Kriegs-Bekleiding der K. This beautifully illustrated book reviews the extraordinary evolution of Japan's military institutions at a period of enormous transformation. Conversely, as this book shows with many fine color plates, Japanese art deeply influenced emergent impressionist Western artists. The uniforms, equipment and ships are shown with much realism while keeping the tradition of great art. For the first time in art history as well as military history, this book documents what the prints show thanks to extremely rare early military regulations and related documents whose illustrations are also exquisite if totally unknown. 320+ color/bw images  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Bridle rosettes-functional objects that stabilized the bridle headstall, beautifully decorated and often imbued with family, political, or social symbols-are “roadmaps of America,” spanning the last 200 years and reminding us of the major contribution of the horse to the development of the country. Over 10,000 different varieties were produced between c. 1850 and 1930. In over 800 vivid color photos many of these varieties are shown. Chapters explore glass and metal rosettes and related hardware, composition rosettes, and rosettes representing various organizations, businesses (advertising), and the military. Two later chapters present information and photographs of rosette pins, and contemporary (post-1960) and recycled rosettes. Historians, horse enthusiasts, collectors, and dealers alike will all treasure this book. 824 color photos  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Britain has issued medals rewarding war service since at least the early nineteenth century, and increasingly through the period of its imperial expansion prior to 1914, but examples of many of the early types are now scarce. However, few families escaped some involvement with "the Great War" of 1914-18, and many still treasure the medals awarded to their ancestors for wartime service. Today, with a growing interest in British military history and particularly in family history and genealogy, more and more people want to trace their ancestors' past. This book looks in detail at the origin, types and varieties of the British medals awarded for general war service between 1914 and '18, and gives advice on researching the awards and their recipients.

Forged in the fires of a desperate war, these cast iron bombs were shaped like pieces of coal to explode in the boilers of Northern ships. Their sabotage was successful and spread fear through the high command causing men like Admiral Porter and General Sherman to order any Rebel caught with them to be "shot on the spot." Confederate President Jefferson Davis promoted their use by a little known Secret Service Corps. One of those odd-shaped 'torpedoes' was found on his desk when Richmond fell in 1865.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Modern Body Armour traces the development of individual ballistic protection from the multi-layer silk garments and metal plates used during World War One and through to the Korean War and Vietnam, to the state-of-the-art amour currently used in Iraq and Afghanistan. Contents include the Chemico Shield and Infanterie Panzer of World War One, USAAF aviator's amour of World War Two, the Korean War M1951 and M1952A, and the IOTV and USMC Scaleable Plate Carrier currently used by US forces. This work illustrates all of the primary amour patterns in use with the world's major nations from 1914 to the present day. The volume is a companion to the author's Camouflage Uniforms and Tin Hats to Composite Helmets that together provide a concise reference to the combat soldier's equipment over the last 100 years.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. As the chief rival to NATO from 1955 - 1991, the Warsaw Pact was, and has since remained, a popular subject for military students and historians alike. On the collecting market the vast range of awards, badges and insignia produced during the Cold War has helped to make the national armies of the Warsaw Pact a popular choice with many military specialists. Surprisingly, even though a great deal has been written about the armor, weapons, uniforms and equipment, no comprehensive reference source on the subject of badges has been printed in the English language.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. 'British Military Medals' traces the history of medals and gallantry awards from Elizabethan times to the modern day and it features an expert account of their design and production. Campaign and gallantry medals are a key to understanding - and exploring - British and Imperial military history, and to uncovering the careers and exploits of individual soldiers. For over 200 years these awards have marked the wars, campaigns and battles fought by British and Imperial forces across the world. In this accessible and wide-ranging account, Peter Duckers provides a fascinating insight into the origins and long tradition of these awards. His work is a guide for collectors and for local and family historians who want to learn how to use medals to discover the history of military units and the experiences of individuals who served in them. Medals are a link with the men and women who were actually present in some of the famous - and not so famous - actions in British military history. They convey the excitement of a direct connection with the past. In a series of succinct and well-organized chapters the author explains how medals originated, to whom they were awarded and how the practice of giving medals has developed over the centuries. From the earliest medals of Elizabethan times up to those awarded in the present day, medals have much to tell us about the life histories of their recipients and the armed forces in which they served.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Table of Contents: - - Be one of the first to own the most comprehensive reference for patch collectors: U.S. Army Patches, Flashes and Ovals brings together in a colorful source more than 3500 cloth insignia worn by U.S. soldiers from World War I to the present. Picking up from where his well-known best seller U.S. Army Patches left off, Barry Stein has gathered officially approved patches from both active and inactive units, patches approved for local wear, as well as many unauthorized patches. The book, with its sharp, vivid, photos takes a snapshot profile of each unit. It includes: wear or approval datescampaigns credits and unit decorationsanecdotal historical unit dataover 3600 patches in colorunit locationan excellent indexbibliographyglossary The story behind the writing of U.S. Army Patches, Flashes and OvalsArticle by the author, Barry Jason SteinIn 1992, while on a business trip to an American military base in Wuerzburg, Germany, as owner and sales representative of the insignia manufacturing company Ira Green Inc., I was asked by the Military Clothing Sales Store manager, an extremely dedicated employee of AAFES, if I could put together a reference catalogue showing the names and pictures of various distinctive unit insignia, or as most people call them, crests (the small enameled metal insignia that tell the history of a unit through the ancient art of heraldic symbolism. That request led to my publishing, in 1993, the book "U.S. Army Heraldic Crests", which became the standard reference book for researchers and collectors (and MCSS managers) around the world.Several years later, I decided to do a companion piece on cloth shoulder sleeve insignia, initially as a reference book for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (PX) system and then for the benefit of insignia collectors who might also be interested in the heraldic interpretation of the designs. I then went on to other projects and those two volumes slowly disappeared from my mind and from the shelves of the many bookstores that had carried them. I understand that, being out of print, they have become quite valuable. In 1999, after thirty-eight years in the business, started by my father in 1943, I retired. But insignia and a love of U.S. Army military history was in my blood and one day in 2003, with war clouds on the horizon as my impetus, I decided to do a revised, updated and expanded version of my "Patch book". Thumbing through the worn pages of my one and only copy of U.S. Army Patches, reading about the heraldic symbolism of the units, their campaign and decoration honors and musing over the colorful designs, I decided that something important was missing. Again, as in so many other wars fought throughout Americas history, courageous American warriors were fighting and dying in the service of their country. In my minds eye, I saw the nameless faces of those soldiers and decided that this time I would include the story of those faces behind those insignia. At first, I thought to research only the active units but as I got deeper into the project the heroic deeds and sacrifices of the soldiers from long-gone or inactivated units cried out for recognition. The pages of the book grew in number until I began to think, my God, surely, I wanted people to read this book but now I wasnt even sure they could lift it.Over a three year period, I spent many days at the U.S. Army Center of Military History at Fort Meyer, Virginia, at The Institute of Heraldry (TIOH), at Fort Belvoir, Virginia and at the Naples, Florida, offices of my friends Scott Hughes (American Society of Military Insignia Collectors adjutant and insignia collector Sonny Saunders who allowed me to scan their collections. Late at night, after putting my little girl Victoria to sleep, I combed through the large collection of books on insignia and military history that I had acquired over the years and I "googled" through hundreds of websites on the internet looking for facts and stories that I could weave into a cohesive format that would tell the stories of Americas Army through the insignia sewn on the uniforms of American soldiers: its command structures and purposes, its combat units, its support units, its agencies, departments, missions; its glorious victories and terrible sacrifices, as well as the genius (and in rare cases, the mind-boggling stupidity) of its leaders, both military and civilian. I found stories of incredible hardships endured and fierce loyalty of one soldier for another under conditions almost too horrible to believe much less describe. Three years later, I published my book under my new company Insignia Ventures. In the end, I believe that the essence of this book can best be summed up by the two men who I asked to do the forewords: for the first edition, General Gordon Sullivan, and for the current edition, my hero and friend, General Leon LaPorte. General Sullivan, who I first met at an Audie Murphy award and dedication ceremony, in Atlanta, Georgia, was at the podium thundering, "we will have no more Task Force Smiths", I didnt know what that was all about then but I know now and if you read this book you will too. In the first edition, Sullivan wrote, "It has always been surprising to me that such a simple device as a cloth service patch could hold so much significance, but I have come to believe that these symbols are the ties which bind us to our rootsthese patches are a constant source of pride, and a method used over time by the leadership of the army to provide the soldiers a way of openly displaying their place in the long line of heroes who came before."Years later, I first met General Leon LaPorte when he was the garrison commander at Fort Irwin, the Army National Training Center in California. I had been invited to tour the Center by my old buddy, now retired FORSCOM Command Sergeant Major, Rick Cayton. General LaPorte went on to command the 1st Cavalry Division and retired recently after several years as Commander, United Nations Command, ROK/US Combined Forces Command and Commander, U.S. Forces Korea. General LaPorte wrote, "This is a book about the Army of the United States of America, yesterday and today. Here you can learn about the men and women who wear those colorful patches-the great things they did and what they continue to do for our country. Learn a little about their heroic deeds, selfless actions and terrible sacrifices. When you read this book, you will understand why soldiers join storied units, how they become "we few, we happy few, we band of brothers" and why we honor their service."In closing, I refer the reader to a quote from an unknown author which Ive inscribed on one of the opening pages of my book. The words symbolize the essence of my book. They read: "POOR IS THE NATION THAT HAS NO HEROS.SHAMEFUL IS THE ONE THAT, HAVING THEM, FORGETS."

Their duties included traffic control; maintaining military order and discipline; collecting and escorting prisoners of war; preventing looting; disarming civilians; checking captured enemy soldiers for documents; collecting fallen enemy propaganda leaflets and providing street patrols in occupied areas.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. The book will evaluate that equipment and how it compared to that of other soldiers in other armies both on the same side and among the opposing forces. The book will thus provide a complete picture of the day-to-day lives and conditions of the fighting men of the American, Russian, British and Commonwealth armies as well as Polish, Free French, and other nations thought fought albeit briefly on the side of the allies making it an essential reference work for all military historians, collectors, modellers and interested general readers.

Overview: This book came about because of my love of cannons, and the fact that no information has ever been written on the civil war cannons in Iowa, while much has been written about cannons in the battle fields out east. My intent is not to go into great depth about which battles these cannons served in or how many served on either side, there are many books out there that cover all aspects of cannons and the role they played in the war. My goal is to catalog the last surviving number of cannon and their location so future generations might be able to enjoy them. The cannon are listed by type and alphabetically by city within that group. At one time there was approximately 150 civil war cannon in Iowa, the cannons were distributed by the U.S government after they felt they were outdated and no longer useful. Most all cannon were requested by various civic groups to be erected as monuments in cemeteries, court house lawns and parks. Many of the cannon were later donated to the scrap drives during W.W.II, and some ended up being removed and put into storage because of lack of care or fear of theft. So far, I have been able to catalog 96 remaining cannon. Includes photographs, cannon location, year of manufacture, gun number, weigh, bore, and more. - Dennis C. Bresson  This item is an original US Cavalry model M1874 Cavalry Shoemaker Bit from the US Indian Wars Period. It is dated as made in 1879. It is called a Shoemaker Bit because it was named after its designer. There is a disk with US on either side of this bit. One US disc has the number 79 stamped into the U. The other disk has a stamped 8 and other numbers I can't read on the U. This Bit is about 8 inches long, 5 and 1/2 inches across and 2 and 1/2 inches high. It is in overall good condition. The front loops of the bit are worn through and open at the top.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. The final cost of that involvement required the U.S. to supply a force to occupy part of the German Rhineland after the war. The force provided was first known as Third Army and then later as the American Forces in Germany (AFG). It consisted of the best divisions in the American Army. With a starting strength of a quarter million doughboys, the Americans marched to the Rhine and began their occupation period in December 1918. When the American phase of the occupation ended in 1923, the force consisted of one thousand soldiers. Many future WWII leaders of the Army and Marine Corps served in this force; including five who would become Marine Commandant, four Army Chiefs of Staff, ten four-star Generals, and, surprisingly, a National Football League Head coach. Table of Contents: - - In two centuries the styles of uniforms for soldiers in the U.S. Army have changed possibly more than civilian fashions. Variously colored uniforms as well as many devices of metal and colored cloth and braid have been adopted and worn by soldiers to indicate their affiliation within the army, their rank, or the special duty to which they might be assigned. William K Emerson's Encyclopedia of United States Army Insignia and Uniforms is the first comprehensive, well-illustrated, fully researched, and completely documented history of U.S. Army branch insignia and the uniforms on which those insignia were worn. More than two thousand photographs illustrate the actual branch insignia used by men and women of the U.S. Army during war and peace from American independence to the present. This book tells the story of the major army branches-infantry, artillery, cavalry, and engineers-as well as the service and support branches comprising doctors and nurses, chaplains, musicians, quartermasters, military police, and the many others who have made up the U.S. Army. Insignia worn by all soldiers, such as eagles, devices with the letters US, and other letters and numbers, are also described and illustrated. Historians, military collectors, military reenactors, antique dealers and collectors, costume specialists, army veterans and buffs, and those simply interested in the history of the U.S. Army will find this book a useful and fascinating reference tool. It will become the standard reference for quick and accurate identification and dating of insignia and uniforms.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Once again, the author looks in detail at where, why and by whom the photographs were taken as well as why and when they were published in postcard form. An extensive number of related photographs are also included, many of them rarely if ever seen by the modern public. This volume - and indeed the entire set - provides a treasure trove of biographical information, historical data and photographic images that makes it a "must-have" for all World War I aviation enthusiasts. This is the story of George Custer's best cavalry company at the 1876 Battle of the Little Bighorn - Company M. With a tragically-flawed, but extremely brave Company Commander and a no-nonsense First Sergeant, Company M maintained a disciplined withdrawal from the skirmish line fighting, saving Major Marcus Reno's entire detachment and possibly the rest of the regiment from annihilation. Presented here is the most-detailed work on a single company at the Little Bighorn ever written - the product of multi-year research at archives across the country and detailed visits to the battlefield by a combat veteran who understands fields of fire, weapons' effects, training, morale, decision-making, unit cohesion and the value of outstanding non-commissioned officers. This book was originally published in Russia, under the title 'Buckles of Fascist Germany' in the year 2000, and has now been translated into English for the first time. Although the 'Berlin Wall' has been demolished for over ten years, there is still a clear divide between East and West, this is also true in the field of collecting Third Reich antiquities. Ulyanov is one of the first Russian writers specialising in the Third Reich era, and brings, in this publication, an interesting perspective to collecting Third Reich belt buckles. There are over 200 photographs of original and reproduction belt buckles, all sourced from within the Russian States included in this volume. Many of the photographs show magnified images of the buckles, enabling the reader to identify pertinant details relating to authenticity, and differences between reproductions and fakes. In regard to reproductions and fakes, extreme detail of the 'new generation' East Bloc fakes will come as a surprise to many collectors. The detail of every illustrated buckle, including the history of how and where it was obtained has been faithfully logged down in this book. Interestingly, many of the buckles were illegally 'excavated' from battle fields and grave sites. One chapter discusses the history of the so called 'black-diggers'; people who dig up and illegally remove artefacts from the aforementioned battle fields and grave sites. For the advanced collector, information and photographs of a hitherto unknown variation of the 'RMBO' prototype high leaders buckle will be of welcome interest.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. The very heart of the Confederate fighting unit was its flag, which came in a variety of designs and colours. The flag was the rallying point on the field of battle and it marked the unit headquarters in camp. In 1865, at the war's conclusion, the furling of the defeated Confederate banners signalled the end of that episode in history. As the first of three books focusing on flags of the Civil War, Philip Katcher's text provides a detailed look into Confederate flags. Full colour illustrations and rare photographs portray the myriad variations of flags used to represent the seceding southern states.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Though the 'Wehrmachtsgefolge' (Armed Forces Auxiliaries) were generally inferior to their armed forces equivalents, their contribution to the German war-effort was far from negligible. Auxiliaries including the NSKK, Transportkorps Speer, Reichsarbeitsdienst and Organization Todt supported the Wehrmacht in their duties. In 1944, the strength of these organizations peaked at 3,800,000-40% of the size of the armed forces. As they became increasingly aware of their importance, the Auxiliaries introduced uniform and insignia modifications which made them virtually indistinguishable from their comrades in the armed forces. This book examines the organization, uniforms and history of the various Wehrmacht auxiliary forces.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Beginning in World War I, with the introduction of the steel helmet this book charts the development of protective equipment for soldiers and security forces. Initially body armour was seen as a military luxury that could be ill-afforded. However, the success of flak suits as worn by some bomber crews during World War II convinced the armed forces of the need to develop protection for the ground soldier against small arms fire. The scientific development of the modern flak jacket is traced as are the field trials conducted in Korea and later Vietnam. Extensive illustrations and photographs accompnay the text.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. The part played in the Civil War by the small Marine Corps of the United and Confederate States is overshadowed by the confrontations of the great armies. Nevertheless, the coastal and riverine campaigns were of real importance, given the strategic significance of the Federal blockade of southern ports, and of the struggle for the Mississippi River. Marines wearing blue and grey fought in many dramatic actions afloat and ashore ship-to-ship engagements, cutting-out expeditions, and coastal landings. This book offers a comprehensive summary of all such battles, illustrated with rare early photographs, and meticulously researched color plates detailing the often obscure minutiae of Marine uniforms and equipment.

In World War II a number of German Army units and divisions were classed as elites, and were distinguished by special insignia of various kinds. For some this status was simply a matter of lineage - e.g. the Infantry Regiment 'List', which traced its identity to the Bavarian unit with which Hitler had served in World War I. Some, like the 'Grossdeutschland' and Panzer-Lehr divisions, were raised from particularly high grade personnel. Other titles honoured extraordinary battlefield exploits or heroic sacrifice, like the 'Brandenburg' and 'Hoch und Deutschmeister' divisions. This fact-packed introduction to these famous units is illustrated with rare photographs and detailed colour plates.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. In Sicily, Normandy, and in the frozen hills of the Ardennes, Americas airborne warriors proved themselves some of the toughest and most determined soldiers of World War 2. What made these soldiers so special? How were they recruited, how did they learn to jump and fight? What special tactics and equipment did they use? This title looks at what it was like to be one of the United States airborne elite, through the experiences of the soldiers themselves. It is the story of the men who invariably led the way; the soldiers who flew to battle and walked home.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Traditionally the origins of this army were among the factory workers who laid down their tools and took up arms as a way of expressing their grievances. Already formed by the time of the revolutions of 1905 and February 1917, these militant workers organised themselves into parliamentary detachments known as the krasnogvardeytsi, or 'Red Guards'. In this first of two volumes [see Men-at-Arms 305: White Armies] focusing on the Russian Civil War, Mikhail Khvostov examines the Red Army's organisation, weaponry, uniforms and insignia. In only a few years the IDF evolved into a truly modern fighting force, much better prepared to confront the Palestinian terrorist attacks that were to follow. Written by an ex-soldier of the IDF, this richly illustrated book chronicles the history of the IDF from the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War to the late 1980s, and covers the various units of the IDF including the Paratroop and Infantry Branch, the Engineering Corps and the Armoured Corps.
