Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Beginning in World War I, with the introduction of the steel helmet this book charts the development of protective equipment for soldiers and security forces. Initially body armour was seen as a military luxury that could be ill-afforded. However, the success of flak suits as worn by some bomber crews during World War II convinced the armed forces of the need to develop protection for the ground soldier against small arms fire. The scientific development of the modern flak jacket is traced as are the field trials conducted in Korea and later Vietnam. Extensive illustrations and photographs accompnay the text.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. The part played in the Civil War by the small Marine Corps of the United and Confederate States is overshadowed by the confrontations of the great armies. Nevertheless, the coastal and riverine campaigns were of real importance, given the strategic significance of the Federal blockade of southern ports, and of the struggle for the Mississippi River. Marines wearing blue and grey fought in many dramatic actions afloat and ashore ship-to-ship engagements, cutting-out expeditions, and coastal landings. This book offers a comprehensive summary of all such battles, illustrated with rare early photographs, and meticulously researched color plates detailing the often obscure minutiae of Marine uniforms and equipment.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Traditionally the origins of this army were among the factory workers who laid down their tools and took up arms as a way of expressing their grievances. Already formed by the time of the revolutions of 1905 and February 1917, these militant workers organised themselves into parliamentary detachments known as the krasnogvardeytsi, or 'Red Guards'. In this first of two volumes [see Men-at-Arms 305: White Armies] focusing on the Russian Civil War, Mikhail Khvostov examines the Red Army's organisation, weaponry, uniforms and insignia. Following the devastation of the 1973 Yom Kippur War, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) underwent significant structural and tactical changes in their battle doctrine. In only a few years the IDF evolved into a truly modern fighting force, much better prepared to confront the Palestinian terrorist attacks that were to follow. Written by an ex-soldier of the IDF, this richly illustrated book chronicles the history of the IDF from the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War to the late 1980s, and covers the various units of the IDF including the Paratroop and Infantry Branch, the Engineering Corps and the Armoured Corps. The British soldiers who marched off to war in 1914 wore only regimental insignia, yet by the time of the armistice in November 1918, insignia in the British Army had undergone a considerable change. Now visible was a bewildering display of coloured devices on uniforms, helmets, vehicles, guns, signboards and flags. Regimental badges remained but were joined by divisional insignia. These were rarely seen in the front line. Instead the 'battle patch' had appeared for combat use. In this beautifully illustrated book Mike Chappell looks at the colourful variety of insignia used by the British Army during the Great War.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Todays smaller armies, especially those of developing nations, demand maximum efficiency in force structure and employment. Mountain, jungle, arctic and desert areas require special purpose units trained, conditioned, and equipped to master these environments. This volume by ex-weapons specialist in the US 7th Special Forces Group, Gordon L. Rottman, details the insignia of a myriad of special forces groups from all parts of the globe, from Portugals Commando Regiment to the North Yemen Al Mithalaat Brigade, with a wealth of illustrations and photographs, including 12 full page colour plates by Simon McCouaig.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. The occupation of Western Europe by the Wehrmacht brought about the birth of resistance movements in all the countries affected, as well as collaborationist movements directly opposed to the resistance. In effect, the war against Germany became a civil war within each country. Sought out by the Hohere SS und Polizeifhrer ('High Command of the SS and Police') and often aided by the British Special Operations Executive, the Western European Resistance centred largely on espionage and intelligence-gathering. A companion volume to Men-at-Arms 142: Partisan Warfare 1941-45, this book explores the history of resistance warfare in Norway, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, France and Italy.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. The author provides a detailed description of each rifle on a part by part basis and whether or not it interchangeable between the two models. Includes markings, codes and inspection stamps that appear on each part. Publishers Full Description: Charles R. Stratton continues his very successful series on collectible British military rifles with the little understood, but widely available Pattern 1914 and U.S. Model of 1917 Rifles. Often called the "American Enfield," the Pattern 1914 in .303 caliber was the only British military rifle ever built wholly in the United States even though it was designed by the engineers at Enfield Arsenal. The U.S. Model 1917 was the same rifle, but rechambered for the American .30-06 cartridge. Over 1.2 million Pattern 1914 rifles and 2.5 million Model 1917 rifles were built during World War I by three American companies, Winchester, Remington and Eddystone. More American soldiers, including Sergeant Alvin York, were armed with the Model 1917 Enfield than with the Model 1903 Springfield. The Model 1917 Enfield has long been a favorite American collectible. Over the years, it has been sporterized for hunting and restored for collecting by thousands of shooters. Parts are commonly available and many P-14 parts are interchangeable with M1917 parts, making it quite easy to return a given rifle to original condition. As in the previous two volumes, Mr. Stratton has provided a detailed description of each rifle on a part by part basis and noted whether or not the particular part is interchangeable between the two models. He provides a series of charts and explanations for the markings, codes and inspection stamps that appear on each part and tells how to determine which were originally manufactured for the P-14 or the M1917. He also provides a complete history of the rifle's development and use in both World War I and World War II. Also a complete description of the two sniper rifle variations of the P-14 that were fielded in both wars, the Pedersen device developed for the M1917, and the accessories that were issued with the rifle to soldiers of both countries, including ammunition belts, bayonets, tools and cleaning equipment. Separate appendixes provide an exploded view and nomenclature, production statistics, ammunition descriptions and sporting rifle derivations.

Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Bombs Away! covers strategic bombing in Europe during World War II, that is, all aerial bombardment of a strategic nature which took place between 1939 and 1945. In addition to American (U.S. Army Air Forces) and British (RAF Bomber Command) strategic aerial campaigns against Germany, this book covers German use of strategic bombing during the Nazi's conquest of Europe: the Battle of Britain, Operation Barbarossa, and the V 1 and V 2, where the Luftwaffe targeted Warsaw and Rotterdam (known as the Rotterdam Blitz). In addition, the book covers the blitzes against London and the bombing of other British industrial and port cities, such as Birmingham, Liverpool, Southampton, Manchester, Bristol, Belfast, Cardiff, and Coventry bombed during the Battle of Britain. The twin Allied campaigns against Germany--the USAAF by day, the RAF by night--built up into massive bombing of German industrial areas, notably the Ruhr, followed by attacks directly on cities such as Hamburg, Kassel, Pforzheim, Mainz, Cologne, Bremen, Essen, Düsseldorf, Hanover, Dortmund, Frankfurt, and the still controversial fire-bombing of Hamburg and Dresden. In addition to obvious targets like aircraft and tank manufacturers, ball bearing factories and plants that manufactured abrasives and grinding wheels were high priority targets. Petroleum refineries were a key target with USAAF aircraft based in North Africa and later Italy, bombing the massive refinery complexes in and around Ploesti, Romania, until August 1944 when the Soviet Red Army captured the area. Other missions included industrial targets in southern Germany like Regensburg and Schweinfurt. Missions to the Nazi capital, Berlin, started in 1940 and continued through March 1945. Throughout the war there were 314 air raids on Berlin. All of this is covered in detail with authoritative text and hundreds of archival photographs, many rare or never before published.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. With sections on each of the current aviation communities in the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, this book is certain to be the ultimate collection of modern and historic aircraft imagery ever assembled.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. For the past two years, while the sun was setting on the iconic F-14 Tomcat, aviation photographer and author Erik Hildebrandt has been capturing the final defining moments of the few remaining F-14 squadrons in the US Navy Fighter community. Anytime, Baby! is an unforgettable collection of final-phase Tomcat milestones captured and preserved forever in some of the most detailed and dynamic photographic compositions Hildebrandt has ever attempted. From riding along with VF-211, the last squadron to ever fly the F-14A, to flying with VF-32 on the last deployment of the F-14B in the Arabian Gulf in 2005, Hildebrandt has been witness to the end of an era. Anytime, Baby! is an important historic record as much as it is an artistic and beautiful tribute to the most popular American fighter in history. A true "must-have" addition for the aviation enthusiasts as well as former and current Navy and Marine Corp service personnel.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Bayonets, Knives & Scabbards is a book on U.S. military edged weapons, edited and published by KNIFE WORLD's Military Editor Frank Trzaska. Over the last two years, Mr. Trzaska has been earning a reputation among military enthusiasts for the ability to convey his knowledge and experience to other collectors through "The Military Edge." It was while conducting research through the National Archives that Trzaska happened across a portion of the document that was to become this book. In time, the other pieces were assembled, and this book is the end result. Simply put, Bayonets, Knives & Scabbards is a government document that details the history of U.S. Army knives, bayonets and scabbards from 1917 through the close of WWII. Included are countless details, facts and figures about the edged weapons utilized by the Army during this time span. Prominently featured are the M3 trench knife, M4 bayonet knife, and bayonets M1905 and M1. Those covered to varying degrees include M1917, M1918, and Mark I trench knives, the M2 parachutists' pocket knife, the V-42 commando knife, M1910 and M1917 bolos, and M1910 and M1917 bayonets. Scabbards for each model are covered in the same detail as the weapon itseIf. While I wouldn't claim that the book qualifies as light reading (it is a government document, after all) it should serve as an excellent source of information for all the models covered. Going far beyond simple production figures, Bayonets, Knives & Scabbards contains details on such subjects as production, storage and performance difficulties and how they were dealt with, information on specific manufacturers, material selection, inspection procedures, modification and repair, production schedules, actual production figures, and general comments. A short section of photos is included, followed by production graphs for the M1905/M1 and M3/M4 and 13 pages of production figures for all U.S. Army edged weapons 1917- 1945. There's more stuff in here than you can shake a stick at! Thankfully, Trzaska has provided a great index, so we can find just what we're looking for without a lot of effort. Bayonets, Knives & Scabbards is a valuable addition to the bookshelf of anyone with an interest in U.S. military knives. Hats off to Trzaska for making it available to everyone.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Collector Bookstore Quick Notes: German American Bunds - the US National Socialist party - was a truly independent form of American National Socialism which sought understanding as well as friendship between the United States and Germany. This reference helps us to understand Bund members in their historical context. Publishers Full Description: Was the Bund a German or American organization? How many members and units of the Bund existed? What was the Bund vision for America? Was there an American SS?Was worldwide genocide contemplated for people of Germanic origin? What U.S. official and arch enemy of the Bund turned out to be a Soviet agent? What became of Bund members during and after WWII?What do authentic Bund relics and memorabilia look like? Are Bund items faked like many Third Reich items, and how does one tell the difference? These and the answers to 100s of other questions can be found in this title. What were the origins of the Bund? They were a mixture of many things, to include the post-WWI abortive Communist Revolution in Germany and response by the Freikorps movement, the early Hitler activities of 1922-1924, the world-wide economic boycott of German products starting in 1933, anti-German propaganda in the USA during the 1930s tied with fresh memories of US involvement in the Great War, and of course the Great Depression. They too were Americans is an inside view of the German-American Bund from interviews, personal diaries, hundreds of photos and artifacts compiled by the author. The Bund was a truly independent form of American National Socialism which sought understanding as well as friendship between the United States and Germany. Domestically, the Bund believed portions of the Capitalist as well as National Socialist world view could be of benefit to their fellow citizens in America.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Collector Bookstore Quick Notes: The Samurai sword's metal fittings reflected the complexities of samurai life. Some fittings were meant to convey the honor and self-control expected of a samurai, while other, more flamboyant fittings reflected the samurai's leisure-time persona as "man about town." "Lethal Elegance" presents 150 of these remarkable sword fittings, and is one of the few books to focus on their styles and techniques. Publishers Full Description: As the "soul of the samurai," the sword is famously both the symbol and instrument of Japanese military prowess. Less known, at least in the west, is its role as a fashion accessory or status symbol. More than the weapon itself, it was the sword's metal fittings--from the hand guard to the small decorative plates on the hilt--that reflected the complexities of samurai life. Some fittings were meant to convey the honor and self-control expected of a samurai, while other, more flamboyant fittings reflected the samurai's leisure-time persona as "man about town." Later, when the wearing of swords spread beyond the samurai class, both the decorative function of the fittings and the variety of their designs increased, leading to some of the most accomplished metalwork ever created. Now in paperback for the first time, "Lethal Elegance" presents 150 of these remarkable sword fittings, and is one of the few books to focus on their styles and techniques. It discusses the visual effects achieved with different alloys, the evolution of fittings following changes in warfare, symbolism and standards for connoisseurship. Though these objects were created for violent ends, their variety and beauty also reveal them as wonders of self-expression.  A set of brass hinges measuring 4in. x nearly 2 in. wide. Publishers Full Description Due to the fact that German military awards have spiraled in value in recent years, the Collector's Guide to German Nazi Party Awards 1919-1945 is a prime opportunity to tap in this international market and provide a useful and practical guide for collectors of such memorabilia. The book features eighty to ninety medals, fully illustrated from the author's extensive collection, including such medals as the Munich Putsch, Blood Order, and the German Order, which in current market conditions are expected to fetch more than 20,000-100,000 each. Unlike military medals within the Third Reich structure, the Nazi Party Awards were issued within the Nazi hierarchy as well as to foreigners; the Art and Science Award has been deemed as the "Nobel Prize," for example. The latter was encrusted in platinum and diamonds and only one copy is known to exist and was presented to the Third Reich's vice chancellor (the medal resides in Christopher Ailsby's collection).

Table of Contents: - - Collector Bookstore Quick Notes: This is the first comprehensive account of the U.S. Army art program in World War I with the American Expeditionary Forces. AEF leadership in France issued passes that allowed these artists relative freedom to move about, sketching as they went. Publishers Full Description Since ancient times, wars have inspired artists and their patrons to commemorate victories. When the United States finally entered World War I, American artists and illustrators were commissioned to paint and draw it. These artists' commissions, however, were as captains for their patron: the U.S. Army. The eight men -- William J. Aylward, Walter J. Duncan, Harvey T. Dunn, George M. Harding, Wallace Morgan, Ernest C. Peixotto, J. Andre Smith, and Harry E. Townsend -- arrived in France early in 1918 with the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF). Alfred Emile Cornebise presents here the first comprehensive account of the U.S. Army art program in World War I. The AEF artists saw their role as one of preserving images of the entire aspect of American involvement in a way that photography could not. Unsure of what to do with these official artists, AEF leadership in France issued passes that allowed them relative freedom to move about, sketching as they went and finding supplies and lodgings where they could. But the bureaucratic confusion over the artists' mission soon created controversy in Washington. The army brass there was dismayed at the slow trickle of art coming in and at some of the bucolic, behind-the-lines scenes, which held little promise as dramatic magazine illustrations or propaganda. The Armistice came only a matter of months after the American artists arrived in France, and they marched into the Rhineland with the American occupation forces, sketching along the way. Soon returning to France the artists went into separate studios to finish their works, but the army hurriedly discharged them and they were civilian artists once more. The author conducted research for this book in the World War I army records in the National Archives, as well as the collections of the Smithsonian Institution, and others throughout the country. The sixty-six black-and-white pictures reproduced here are some of the approximately five hundred pieces of official AEF combat art, which shortly after the war were turned over to the Smithsonian Institution, where most of them remain.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Collector Bookstore Quick Notes: Texas Civil War Artifacts is the first comprehensive guide to the physical culture of Texas Civil War soldiers. Texas military equipment differs from the equipment of the eastern Confederate states. Most of the Texas-produced equipment was blacksmithed, or local-artisan made, and in many cases featured the Lone Star as a symbol of Texas. Publishers Full Description One of the most popular literary subjects worldwide is the American Civil War. In addition to an enormous number of history buffs, there are tens of thousands of collectors of Civil War artifacts. In the last fifty years, several books have been written concerning the equipment associated with soldiers of specific Confederate states, but no book until now has ever chronicled the military equipment used by Texas soldiers. Texas Civil War Artifacts is the first comprehensive guide to the physical culture of Texas Civil War soldiers. Texas military equipment differs in a number of ways from the equipment produced for the eastern Confederate states. Most of the Texas-produced equipment was blacksmithed, or local-artisan made, and in many cases featured the Lone Star as a symbol of Texas. Contemporary Civil War literature frequently mentions that most soldiers of Texas displayed the Lone Star somewhere on their uniform or equipment. In this groundbreaking volume, Richard Mather Ahlstrom has photographed and described more than five hundred Texas-related artifacts. He shows the diverse use of the Lone Star on hat pins, waist-belt plates, buckles, horse equipment, side knives, buttons, and canteens. In addition, the weapons that Texans used in the Civil War are featured in chapters on the Tucker Sherrard and Colt pistols; shotguns, rifles, and muskets; and swords. Rounding out the volume are chapters on leather accouterments, uniforms and headgear, and a gallery of Texas soldiers in photographs. This book will prove to be a valuable reference guide for Civil War collectors, historians, museum curators, re-enactors, and federal and state agencies.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. This manual covers dis-assembly and assembly, cleaning and lubricating, and other general technical information, but its real value lies in the sniper-specific tactics it contains. Publishers Full Description: The Mosin-Nagant bolt-action rifle is the most basic of the Russian and Soviet small arms. Before being replaced by the snayperskaya vintovka Dragunova (SVD) in the 1960s, the selected, scoped version of the rugged Mosin-Nagant was the principal sniper rifle of the Soviet army and of many Eastern European military. It is still used in many conflicts because of the large numbers in which it was produced. This manual, available in English for the first time, is entirely devoted to the sniper version of the 1891/30 Mosin-Nagant rifle with PU scope. It covers disassembly and assembly, cleaning and lubricating, and other general technical information, but its real value lies in the sniper-specific tactics it contains. Instructions and illustrations are included for the following topics: sniper firing positions; battlefield observation points; range estimation; how to fire at stationary, fleeting, moving and aerial targets; two ballistic tables; and much more. This is a must-have reference for Mosin-Nagant rifle and sniper enthusiasts.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. The regimental or battery set of colours was more than simply a unit designation, issued for the ease of a commander in identifying his units in the field. It was the very symbol of the regiment; it was its heart, the thing that drew its members together. As such it was fiercely defended in action, where it flew in the centre of the line. On 8 June, following further reinforcements, General Westmoreland authorised his troops to begin 'offensive patrolling'. Lee Russell's follow-up to Men-at-Arms 104 focuses in finer detail on the uniforms and insignia of the US Army and Marines, the ARVN and the NVA. The book is packed with superbly detailed black and white photographs of the forces in the field, and Mike Chappell's excellent illustrations provide key reference material for the contemporary uniforms and battledress.

Collector Bookstore Quick Notes: Covers all uniforms issued and worn by female officers and enlisted personnel from 1941-1991. Catalogs each type of uniform, how and when it was made. This book picks up the story of the women in Soviet military and paramilitary uniform that came into service in 1941, and takes the reader all the way through to 1991.  Extensive effort has been made by the author to include every possible detail relating to Soviet womenÂ’s uniforms in all military and paramilitary services. Translated tables providing an extensive look at rank, service and Corps identification have been included.   The book features an extensive amount of information for the collector of Soviet womenÂ’s uniforms - not just through photographs and illustrations, but by providing buyerÂ’s tips and important information to help identify originals from reproductions. There are no illegal fakes around, because the Soviet Union never had any copyright laws in this area, but there are many new items on the market which are being passed off as original, like those produced by TV, film and theatre suppliers. This book will help the discerning collector spot the difference.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. This book retails for $39.95"Much of the American public first gave serious notice to naval aviation following the highly successful cinematic release of Top Gun in 1986. In reality, of course, naval aviators had already been playing a starring role of their own in faraway battle zones for decades. One major contributing factor to this sustained display of performance throughout the world is the strong unit identity cherished by navy fliers. Pete Morgan's new book, The Elite of the Fleet, Volume 1, is a dazzling photographic chronicle of the unit patches that symbolize aviation. While not claiming to be the mythical "complete" guide to aviation patches, The Elite does show over 800 of them, magnificently photo-graphed in full color. Carefully organized by type of unit, the 90 color pages average about 9 patches each. Whether you're an aviator, collector or historian, you'll find The Elite of the Fleet, Volume 1, to be a great reference and an absorbing pageturner.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Collector Bookstore Notes: Fort Fisher, North Carolina, was the largest and strongest seacoast fortification in the Confederacy. After falling to the Union in 1865, Fort Fisher was extensively photographed. This is the most complete assembly of these photographic records known to exist. These early photos appear here in large format, accompanied by an explanation of its significance. Publishers Description: There is a lot of international interest in Fort Fisher, North Carolina, the largest and strongest seacoast fortification in the Confederacy. It was considered the "Gibraltar of the South," as the main guardian of Wilmington, the South's most important seaport during the Civil War. More blockade-runners operated in and out of Wilmington than all other seaports combined, and the guns of Fort Fisher offered them covering-fire protection. After falling to the largest Union amphibious operation of the Civil War in January 1865, Fort Fisher was extensively photographed for posterity by Alexander Gardner & Co. Gardner sent one of his best photographers, Timothy H. O'Sullivan, to do the field work. It was at the time one of the most photographed forts in the country. After 30 years of searching, the author turned up 39 photographs of Fort Fisher and immediate vicinity and 2 additional images of the U.S. Navy task force, the largest assembled during the war, dispatched to attack the fort. After more than three decades of studying Fort Fisher's history, Dr. Chris E Fonvielle, Jr. has reassembled the most complete photographic record of T.H. O'Sullivan's images of Fort Fisher known to exist.  A very rare mika coat in superb condition. It is continental cut with a high collar and silk lining, as well as a silk inner lining. Collector Bookstore Quick Notes: The only book of its kind, this is an ambitious effort to catalogue international service records and related sources covering the soldiers of all countries participating in the war. Publishers Full Description: World War I has passed from living memory into the history books, receding far enough into the distance to provide a genealogical challenge. In order to reconstruct the lives and locate the records of those who served, fought, volunteered, or were conscripted, we must rely on a vast but relatively unknown body of resources. Counting all combatants, the number of men who served in the Great War runs into the millions; needless to say, finding records on them in the two dozen countries that participated in the war is a daunting and laborious task--now made infinitely simpler with the publication of this magnificent guide to WWI service records. The only book of its kind, this ambitious effort to catalogue service records and related sources is international in scope, covering the soldiers of all countries participating in the war, from Britain, Germany, and France, to Russia, Canada, and the U.S.; and from India, Australia, and Japan, to South Africa and Brazil! This is a key to a motherlode of genealogical data and should grow in value as our need for WWI-era information increases. Right now it represents a whole new path in genealogical research, with fresh possibilities and discoveries at every turn. The first part of the book is designed to provide background on the organization of the military in 1914, the order of battle, how to use the records, and a general time-line of events, focusing on 1914 to 1918. The second part concentrates on the combatants, describing each country's armed forces, conscription history, and its military and naval records, and, to the greatest extent possible, their location. (Records that have been microfilmed and are available worldwide through the Family History Library System of the LDS Church are identified by roll number.) The third part of the book describes casualty lists and POW records, and provides a table showing changes in place names, while the final section of the book, an appendix, contains a glossary of abbreviations, Internet addresses, and a select bibliography of books in English. The disposition of personnel files varies from country to country, depending on privacy laws and archival practices. In some cases documents are held by a military archive, in others by a national repository. In a few cases, such as Great Britain, service files are in the process of being transferred from one agency to another. Whatever their disposition--and it is an important aim of this book to identify their disposition--the records covered here fall under the following headings: draft records, personnel papers, unit records, embarkation lists, death records and casualty reports, military parish registers, regimental returns, medal lists, entitlement lists, hospital registers, pension records, and diaries. A particularly useful section of the book, "Research Tips," describes the general organization of military records, the organization of those records in specific countries, and the condition and comprehensiveness of the records. With help from dozens of individuals and institutions throughout the world, in particular from libraries such as the Army Pentagon Library, the Navy Department Library, the Library of Congress, the Family History Library, the Hoover Institute (Stanford University), the Public Record Office (England), and the national archives of at least a dozen countries, the author has managed to compile a guide to WWI service records that is not only unique but totally comprehensive. She has taken a mountain of material and cut it down to size, transforming an unwieldy body of sources into a streamlined archive. Her pioneering efforts will save researchers untold hours of toil, adding limbs to family trees and providing opportunities for further research.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. The uniforms, equipment and artifacts of the army, militia, navy, marines and revenue marines of this fort represent a transition from a smaller peacetime army to one of wartime, and received new uniforms and equipment. Imported Confederate Uniforms of Peter Tait & Co., Limerick, Ireland is a 72-page, full color, illustrated reference book covering the most famous imported Confederate uniform of the Civil War. It is, to date, the only reference that includes documentation and photos of every surviving Peter Tait uniform known to exist. A total of 126 color images document these blue-gray uniforms, along with several additional black and white photos from the war era. The color photos offer different perspectives and close-ups showing construction details, lining, stitching, and size stamps used in Peter Tait jackets and trousers. They also include the faces, back marks, and Tice numbers of every button used on Peter Tait jackets. Furthermore, readers will not need to squint at the pictures. The book is an ample 8 ?" x 11" (21.5 cm x 28 cm) format, allowing for large images and crisp details of every Tait jacket. In addition to the detailed photos, the well-documented text specifies the number of uniforms delivered to the Confederacy and the places the soldiers wore them. The provenance of each Tait jacket is included along with the soldier's service record. The usage of the Peter Tait uniform in the Army of Northern Virginia, the Carolina Campaign, the Mobile Garrison, and the Department of the Trans-Mississippi proves that this imported Confederate jacket was the Confederacy's one truly universal uniform. Adolphus' research is supported by 67 end notes, almost exclusively taken from primary sources and original Confederate documents. Far from an exercise in conjecture, this study fills a void with factual information about the acquisition, delivery, and use of the Tait uniform. The author also proves that Peter Tait was not the only manufacturer of the "Tait" uniform. Alexander Collie and Hebbert & Co., London provided their share, as well. This book thoroughly documents the contribution of Ireland and Great Britain to the Southern armies, and is a "must have" for anyone interested in imported Confederate uniforms.  A goldtone and silvertone USN clutchback pin. Publishers Full Description: Gliders formed a special category of aircraft within the Luftwaffe. While other aircraft types were used for many years, as a rule gliders were conceived for short service lives, in some cases just a single mission. The purpose of the glider, most of which were built using the simplest materials, was to deposit soldiers and materiel behind enemy lines undetected. In this book the various types used by the Luftwaffe in World War II, and their development are described in detail - from military gliders for a few soldiers to large-capacity gliders capable of transporting tanks.
