Collector Bookstore Notes: Watsons Whizzers details how American jet superiority came about as a direct technology transfer from the German Luftwaffe, whose test pilots and scientists joined the US Air Force in the aftermath of WWII. Publishers Description Watson's Whizzers is the complex story of the meticulously planned and executed disarmament of the Luftwaffe after its defeat in the spring of 1945, and the retrieval and transfer to the United States of Germany's advanced aeronautical technology and world-class scientists - technology so superior that it would in short measure change the look of United States air forces. Although General Spaatz in May 1945 had under his command 17,000 planes of all kinds, the largest air armada ever assembled , they were of little future use. The future was about swept wing aircraft flying at supersonic speeds, or close to it: the incomparable Boeing B-47 jet bomber and its successor the eight jet B-52. The North American F-86 fighter and its supersonic successor the F-100 Supersaber were the immediate results of the German technology transfer and secured America's future in the darkest days of the Cold War.

Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Collector Bookstore Notes: This is a complete, detailed, part-by-part study of the Communist Bloc's SKS Carbine, history & use. Includes assembly instructions and information on replacement parts. Publishers Description: This is a complete analysis of the Communist Bloc's SKS Carbine - the first detailed study of this fine, collectible carbine in twenty-five years. Every part analyzed to tell you how to determine its country of origin and whether or not those parts are compatible between SKS carbines of different Nation's manufacture. This famed Soviet-designed shoulder arm, which together with the AK-47, armed hundreds of thousands of "National Liberation Front" fighters from Vietnam to Angola. It was manufactured in six countries and its total production ran into the tens of millions. Since 1986, over 1,000,000 of those Albanian, Russian, East German, Chinese, North Vietnamese, North Korean, Romanian and Yugoslav SKS Carbines were imported into the United States. That vast number not only provides a fertile field for collectors, but helps keep prices low enough to make the SKS carbine a fine plinking and hunting rifle. The SKS Carbine examines the firearm on a part-by-part basis so that you can determine 1) which parts are original on a particular SKS carbine, 2) in which country they were produced, 3) which of those parts are interchangeable between different manufacturers and which are not, 4) how to read serial numbers to determine date of manufacture and country of origin, and 5) what the inspection markings stamped on metal and wood parts mean. Since the vast majority of SKS Carbines in the U.S. are military surplus, you will learn how to examine and select a fine, shootable SKS Carbine. You are also provided with complete assembly/disassembly instructions, how to manufacture most parts if you cannot find a commercial source, and ammunition characteristics, and ballistic information. An expanded list of factory codes for the Chinese SKS carbines has been made available to the authors by collector Howard Bearse. That information and more has also been included in this 4th revised and expanded edition of The SKS Carbine.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Mr. Rutledge traces the development of the familiar Indian War period U.S. Army uniform from those worn during the Civil War through its evolution to meet the conditions encountered on the plains, deserts and in the mountains of the western United States in the immediate post-War period. Through the use of first-person accounts, General Service records and period photographs, Mr. Rutledge provides text and identification and charts a true picture and understanding of the inadequate uniforms worn by the underarmed garrisons west of the Mississippi.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Collector Bookstore Notes: Covers the M16 and AR15 Rifles. Includes history, part-by-part detailing, assembly, repair, cleaning, markings, competition shooting tips, more. Publishers Description: The M16 has been the nation's military rifle since 1964, longer than any other military rifle. During those 36 years, it has been carried in combat and on peacekeeping missions by American, allied and friendly soldiers to every corner of the world. The civilian version, the AR15 rifle, has been manufactured in the hundreds of thousands by more than a dozen different companies. It is the current National Match Service Rifle and the most popular target match rifle in use today. The M16/AR15 Rifles by Joe Poyer provides a detailed examination of this famous rifle in both its military and civilian versions. Following a history of its development and the evolution of military tactics that guided its design, a comprehensive part-by-part examination of the rifle is provided. Markings and codes for military and civilian rifles and carbines are deciphered and a six page table lists all models by all manufacturers currently in production, with specific features. For those interested in competition, three AR15s were custom-built; a spacegun for long range bench rest matches, a service match rifle that complies with all current OCM and NRA competition rules and a .22 rimfire AR15 rifle that is not only amazingly accurate but is legal in California and other states that ban large capacity magazine, centerfire, semiautomatic rifles. The design and building process is thoroughly described for those wishing to build their own match rifles. The M16/AR15 rifle is the last military rifle that Americans will be allowed to own. The M16's replacement, which incorporates a 20 mm grenade launcher, is already well-advanced in testing and is due to be introduced by mid-decade. But the AR15 rifle will remain the national match service rifle far into the foreseeable future. The book is illustrated with over three hundred photos and drawings, is 8 x 10.5 inches in size, perfect bound and 134 pages in length.

Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Table of Contents: - - Previously published as 'A Collector's Guide to the History and Regalia of the SS - The Black Corps', this detailed look at the organisation and history of the 'general' SS is an indispensable guide which places their uniforms, ephemera and memorabilia in context. 105 black/white photos.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. NOTE: This book is OUT OF PRINT. Limited quantities available - this may be our last copy. This is the first in a new series of detailed references on service badges and emblems - the distinguishing insignia that are worn on uniforms to show such information as rank, trades, qualifications, proficiency and skill-atarms, formations, units, locations and districts. Third Reich Cloth Insignia covers the services, organisations and units - military, political and other - that were part of Germany under the Nazis. This includes the Wehrmacht - the majority of the book is on the German Armed Forces, including army, navy, air force, Waffen-SS and Volkssturm; also covered are the political and administrative units. After an introduction to the subject there are sections on the following organisations, each illustrated with wartime photographs and, where possible, colour artefact photography: Army; Luftwaffe, including Paratroops and other ground forces; Navy; Marine Artillery; Allgemeine-SS; Waffen-SS and SS-VT; Foreign Volunteer Legions (West and East Europe); the SA including the Feldjagerkorps, Wehrmannschaft, Naval and Marine Troops; Veterans' organisations including Brigade Erhardt and Stahlhelm; the Nazi Party political leadership including NPEA leadership schools; NSKK (the Nazi Party's Motor Corps); NSFK (the Nazi Party's Flying Corps) including the DLV; RAD (the Reich Labour Service) including the FAD; the DAF (Labour Front); the Youth organisations - the Hitler Youth and League of German Girls; Home Defence including the RLB/Air-raid protection, LSW/Air-raid warning, SHD/Safety and Aid; Organisation Todt including TeNo/Tech Emergency; the Police (including Traffic, Waterways, Customs, Administrative, Security, Fire, Municipal, Autobahn, Rural, Coastal and Mountain units); the Volkssturm; German Red Cross; German Railways; German Postal Service; Diplomats and government officials; East Territories officers; Ostbau; Factory guards; transport guards; and Forestry and Falconry officials. Finally there is a Reference section (Glossary, Select Bibliography) and an index. An unparalleled collection and years of specialisation in this area of research makes Brian Davis the perfect author for this project. Editor of The Formation Sign, the journal of the Cloth Insignia Research and Collectors Society, he is respected worldwide for his many books on uniforms and insignia. Future titles in this series will cover the cloth insignia of the United States and the United Kingdom.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Collector Bookstore Notes: This reference helps correctly identify authentic or fake German WWII parade and combat helmets via paint, decals and other details. Publishers Description The central issue regarding collecting SS helmets is the huge amount of fakes now on the market. SS-Steel is intended to assist the collector in determining the fakes from the real thing. It provides information specific to their paint, decals and general characteristics. This analysis is conducted within the framework of history; illustrating how the forces of politics and war influenced the equipping of Germany's elite guard. During full-scale production of the M-35 series of helmets, each of the five German helmet makers installed their own pattern of SS decal on helmets at the factory. Fine examples of dozens of helmets show clear evidence of this maker-to-decal correlation. In addition to the decal analysis, SS-Steel explores the high degree of re-use and re-issue of helmets, compared to the other services. Variations, unusual and rare helmets, and "foreign volunteer" SS helmets are also explored. Since the first edition of "SS Steel," a lot has taken place. Numerous superb original examples of helmets have surfaced that not only reinforce the decal to maker correlation, but also to give authoritative context for exceptions to this correlation. Both the reinforcement aspects and the exception aspects will be illuminated further in this update. Some of the information that has surfaced deals with more accurate dating of helmets via anecdotal use of batch or lot numbers, which loosely give a helmet a production period that in combination with the decal it displays from the factory can lead to determination of when certain patterns of decals were used and perhaps why. An example of this is the ET M-35 SS helmet with factory issue C.A. Pocher decals. In the first edition of "SS Steel," this happenstance was characterized as an early characteristic, based on several examples of 1937 or earlier dated M-35s, plus some period photos showing early use of Pocher decals. In the intervening period since the first edition, it has been definitively determined that C.A. Pocher decals were also used on factory issue ET M-35 helmets, alongside and even intermingled with standard ET decals, during a large portion of 1939. This is due to their correlation to the 4,000 series lot numbers, which loosely equate to 1939 production overall. So this very significant point has been identified and helps refine and advance collector knowledge on M-35s. Other useful information has been incorporated into this update, with the intent of creating greater clarity on production and use of all helmets across the wartime spectrum of the SS. It is my greatest hope that this information will help solidify and strengthen the body of knowledge surrounding these magnificent trophies of the Second World War.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Table of Contents: - - Collector Bookstore Notes: From 1892-1937, this volume covers the field gear, hand-held firearms and headgear of the U.S. Marines. Publishers Description: The long awaited follow-up to the award winning "Grunt Gear" has taken seven years to research and it does not disappoint. The research and writing of this book was originally done in order to compliment the "Book of the Year" award winning - "Grunt Gear: USMC Combat Infantry Equipment of World War II." Tulkoff has once again combed through countless archives and private collections to bring never before seen USMC pieces of equipment and photographs together in this first of a two volume set. Volume I covers, field gear, small arms (pistols, rifles and machineguns) and head- gear. The evolution of the Marine Corps bell crown cap is meticulously documented with both photographs and archival documentation. Arsenal and Quartermaster records thought to have been destroyed were located and new serial numbers attributed to the Marine Corps have been identified for Krag rifles (1,000) as well as M1903 rifles, M1912 Colt Automatics, BARs and even a handful of shotguns. Detailed information about quantities contracted are supplied in the field gear chapter in regards to cartridge belts and suspenders. The USMC Quartermaster Depot is examined and details about its manufacturing and capabilities are described. Due to the manner in which the Marine Corps developed and manufactured uniforms and equipment, and the massive number of changes made to Uniform and Equipment Regulations it became evident that this book had to start with the 1892 Uniform Regulations. This brought up the issue of incorporating Dress Blues into this research as the first Marine Corps Combat Uniforms were actually blues. However, these blues eventually were phased out of combat and became the ever present Dress Blues as known today. Due to the large number of changes and massive amount of research covering the 1892, 1896, 1897, 1900, 1904, 1908, 1912, 1917, 1922, 1929 and 1937 Uniform Regulations, the book grew exponentially. In order to provide a reasonably concise book at an affordable price it was deemed necessary to break the book into two volumes. This volume covers Webgear, Weapons and Headgear. The information in this book was compiled from many resources including archival documents and photographs as well as many museums and countless private collections. While researching this book, Marine Corps Depot Records not previously found or forgotten about long ago were located as well as Annual Reports of the Commandant. Although the Eagle, Globe and Anchor (EGA) is the most identifiable insignia around the world for the U.S. Marine Corps, it is not being addressed in this volume or the next. Due to the massive amount of information (an entire other book) it was decided not to cover the EGA. From a collector s standpoint EGAs should not be used as the only method of dating or evaluating a uniform or piece of headgear. Since many collectors only specialize in EGAs they will purchase a piece of headgear for the EGA only, and then add a lesser or mis-dated EGA and resell the cap. This creates issues for headgear and other EGA collectors.

By the New Year of 1940 the War Office had agreed in principle to (a) the enhancement of officers' badges of rank with cloth in the colour of the arm-of-service; (b) strips of cloth in the same colours to be worn at the top of the sleeves by all ranks; and (c) the wearing of regimental flashes on Battledress. And so the rules for the wearing of battle insignia throughout the British Army were established. How far they were obeyed and how often they were ignored will become obvious to anyone reading Mike Chappell's splendid companion work to Men-At-Arms 182.

At 4am on Sunday 25 June 1950 powerful North Korean forces invaded South Korea, advancing down the Uijongbu Corridor towards the Southern Capital of Seoul. South Korean troops resisted bravely, but were crushed by overwhelming Northern superiority. Later that day the United Nations Security Council condemned the aggression, and on 7 July appointed US General of the Army Douglas MacArthur to command UN forces which would be sent to save South Korea. Nigel Thomas and Peter Abbott explore the history of this conflict, which pitted UN forces against the People's Republic of China in a resulting in hundreds of thousands of casualties.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. By World War II women were playing a major auxiliary role in all branches of the armed forces. Collector Bookstore Notes: Covering Navajo and Southen Plains Indians, this oversized, coffee table style reference examines silver bridles (tack), gorgets, pectorals, hairplates and concha belts. Publishers Description: The Navajo and Southern Plains Indians loved the flash of silver to adorn their horses and themselves. This book traces the evolution and use of silver bridles as well as gorgets, pectorals, hairplates and concha belts, all of which were first obtained through trade networks, and later the Indians learned to make themselves. The silver bridles which came to North America from Mexico with the earliest explorers, and later military officers, were the first examples seen by Indians on the Southern Plains. Once they obtained horses, these Indians preferred the flashy accoutrements the Spanish had used. Southern Plains tribesmen used Mexican ring bits on their German silver bridles, but added to them hanging elements such as chains, scalps, ribbons or flags. In this volume are nearly 500 images of silver bridles from museums and private collections, as well as depictions in ledger drawings and historic photos of these bridles in use by the Plains people. The chapter on Navajo bits and bridles by Robert Bauver is illustrated with numerous photographs of ornate silver bridles and their details. The Navajo were the only tribe making distinctive iron bits and their own silver bridles. The development of the Navajo individual bridle style is traced from its origins in the Southern Plains, where the bridles were made by Mexicans. Winfield Coleman has contributed his beautiful paintings to illustrate how the Indian horse and mounted rider appeared in full regalia. Also, he provided the illuminated initial letters for each chapter. These embellishments add to the beauty of this book. There will be three volumes in this series on Bridles of the Americas. The 2nd one, by Mike Cowdrey and the Martins, will cover Beaded, Quilled and Cloth bridles, and the final volume will include South American bridles, Cowboy bridles and Hitched Horsehair.  New in Clear Box Operation Santa 2001-2002 Southwest Asia AGC Christmas Ornament.

Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Collector Bookstore Notes: This is an illustrated, color record of the military uniforms of Europe from 1907 - 1914. Includes both officers and enlisted. The book is divided into the following sections: Great Britain The German Empire France Austria-Hungary Belgium Holland Italy Portugal Russia Spain Sweden Publishers Description: In the years immediately before the First World War Archibald Haswell Miller, a young artist, traveled Europe to study painting. While he was there he indulged his other great interest - military matters. On his travels he observed first-hand the soldiers of the European Armies in the last days of the colourful and elaborate uniforms that were giving way to grey and khaki across the continent. Realizing that this was a great military heritage that was slipping away, he set out to record these splendid uniforms. In the uncertain days before the assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand in Sarajevo, Haswell Miller sketched and painted hundreds of figures, each wearing a different uniform from the armies of Britain, Germany, France, Austria-Hungary, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Spain and Sweden. Just before the First World War the paintings were exhibited in Leipzig, and it seemed they might be published. But when war broke out they returned home and lay forgotten for nearly one hundred years. Now, published together at last, they represent a unique record of the uniforms of the last great age of military dress. Accompanied by, in Haswell Miller's own words, 'notes and memories of the days before "the lights went out in Europe" in the year 1914', this is a book of great historical importance.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Collector Bookstore Notes: This reference documents the American airplane artists whose work primarily appeared during the WWII era, especially in war posters, advertisiments and other forms of print. Publishers Description: In 1944 George Grod, a strip cartoon, modelling and aviation enthusiast, discovered with amazement some American magazines which an MP billeted near his village lent him. What he liked best were the gleaming advertisements scattered throughout the pages. In the eighties, during an "old papers" fair George came across some old numbers of Life magazine. Nothing had changed; his emotion was still there intact. He started an unbridled search for original magazines dating back to between 1942 and 1945. For many long years, he tried to find out more about these obscure illustrators. All this now came together once again all so naturally in this search in which we see the return of all his great themes - aviation, kits, cartoon strips, the love of art and even the cinema. The book is not seeking to be a mere collection of beautiful pictures all strung together or a sample from a huge collection; it is above all the testimonial of a period, the reflection of that immense war effort the American people made during the last world war, seen through the kaleidoscope of publicity. It is also a tribute to the most glamorous of our liberators. The author A child of the Liberation, when he left Arts Deco, George Grod worked alongside great film-makers like Verneuil, Minnelli, Zinnemann, Lumet and Zanuck. Then he made some of the programmes for the television series les Dossiers Noirs with his friend Jean-Michel Charlier who took part later in the Grands Ma?es de la BD (Grand Masters of the Cartoon Strip) which he created for the Visiteurs du Mercredi (Wednesday's visitors). He then worked for Ushua?with Nicolas Hulot, appreciating in particular the subjects dealing with aviation  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Collector Bookstore Notes: This book is a pictorial history of the SS Totenkopf Division campaign of 1940 in France. It has numerous large, detailed original war-time photos with captions. Publishers Description: Published in 1942 with the title Damals, this reference examines the SS-Totenkopf-Division, a rather unusual motorized Waffens-SS formation whose nucleus had been shaped with concentration camp guards, the sadly famous SS-Totenkopfverbande. Proof had to be given through text and photos that in 1940, on the battlefields of France, this division displayed the same value as the best Wehrmacht divisions. Eric Lefe'vre has added a historical account of the unit and a biography of its commander SS-Gruppenfuhrer Eicke to the original facsimile. Each of the 89 photos and each text forms the subject of remarks and necessary annotations by the same writer. Eric Lefe'vre is a well-known specialist of the WWII German Amy. Collector Bookstore Notes: Excerpt: "This book explores the life of the average British Tommy (soldier) of the Great War, in battle and at rest, in training, and on his return home." Many photos are included, both archival black and white as well as color photos of collectibles. Publishers Description: The familiar pictures of the First World War show soldiers in their trenches: hellish images of mud. But there is another dimension not depicted by these frightening representations of battle: the mundane everyday routine of the majority of the soldier's life that was spent away from the Front. This book explores the life of the average British Tommy' of the Great War, in battle and at rest, in training, and on his return home. Illustrated with evocative images of the war, and items of the soldier's kit, it provides an answer to the question: what was it like to be a soldier in the trenches on the front line?  Original WWII Philippine Series silk escape / evasion map as used by pilots and airborne personnel during the war. The map is marked No 34 Southeast China on one side and Chart C-40 Luzon Island on the other; it is marked Nov - Mar, restricted and is dated July 1944. The book is titled, "The Road to Liberty" by author, Hermann Hagedorn. Published in 1928 by The John C. Winston Company at The International Press, Philadelphia, PA. Illustrated by Frank Godwin and J.L.G. Ferris. This book is sectioned into two parts. The contents of Part 1 include the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution of the United States, The Constitution of the State of New Jersey, and The History and Code of the Flag of the United States. A brief history on the Flag of New Jersey, as well as The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag is included in Part 1. Part 2 of this book is titled, "The Road to Liberty and How Zach Peters Found It - An American Adventure in Ten Dreams". Part 1 has 87 pages and Part 2 has 142 pages. It’s fascinating to think that this book was presented to a young student by the Board of Education upon completion of eighth grade in Public School. Similar to a yearbook, classmates signed the back pages of the book, but with the girl’s names on one page and the boy’s names on another…so 1920’s! This book is in excellent original condition with very light minor age-appropriate wear. The pages have no tears, dog-ear creases, or scribbling. The binding is tight and there are no missing or torn pages. Circa 1928.
