Collector Bookstore Notes Armed forces of the world have developed camouflage uniforms to aid in concealing troops in the field of battle. Studio color photos, with captions, clearly show these uniforms with their patterns and colors. Publishers Description: The term camouflage only came into widespread use during the First World War, and the specialist camouflage units developed by the combatants at the time put the bulk of their efforts into the concealment of artillery, vehicles, observation posts and bunkers. It was not until the Second World War that all major combatant nations issued camouflage uniforms better designed to disguise profile, and also tailored to the appropriate theatre of war. Camouflage Uniforms contains nearly 400 color images showing how armed forces all around the world have developed their own methods of concealing troops, often in response to their unique local environments. Studio photographs clearly show the uniforms with their patterns and colors and with explanatory captions. This is an essential volume for collectors and military historians.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Collector Bookstore Excerpt For the first time the complete range of Royal Navy Officers insignia may be seen and studied in a single, comprehensive guide. Publishers Description: For over a century and a half, since the Uniform Regulations of 1856 were introduced, identification of rank among officers in the Royal Navy, its branches and its reserves has not been restricted to a single, or even small number, of insignia. Rank may be seen on jacket cuffs, on shoulder badges, on shoulder boards and on epaulettes. It may be seen on swords and buttons, and in the manner in which buttons are worn. Cap peaks indicate rank, as do collars, cocked hat ornaments and cuff slashes. Rank insignia varies just as much between officers of similar rank. Cap badges and variants of gold lace stripes divide Executive from Civil branches, and from the Royal Navy and its reserves. Civil branches were further divided, and some remain so to this day, by the addition of color between the gold lace stripes. For the first time the complete range of Royal Navy Officers insignia may be seen and studied in a single, comprehensive guide. The badges, buttons, stripes, wings and stars are catalogued separately in order of rank and date of introduction. Where possible, actual examples are used, and where not, an accurate as possible reproduction is offered. In addition, original photographs show the insignia being worn over the past 150 years.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Collector Bookstore Notes This book explores the development of British military webbing equipment, from 1958 to today. Publishers Description: Since the end of World War Two and the increasing threat of Nuclear, Biological and Chemical [NBC] warfare during the Cold War, equipment designers have focused on building NBC protection and decontamination into the British soldiers webbing equipment. The capabilities of 1958-pattern webbing were known to be very poor, yet it was not until the exposure of its shortcomings during the Falklands War of 1982 that a suitable nylon-based load-carrying equipment was developed. Topics: 1958 pattern webbing Experimental webbing concepts Personal Load Carrying Equipment (PLCE) Chest Webbing Modular webbing (MOLLE) Osprey & Kestril body armour equipment Small Arms 80 (SA80) development Nuclear Biological & Chemical (NBC) equipment   Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. This book offers a mud-eye view of the battlefields material culture. All things are treated equally, from individual bullets that smashed into the boulders of Devils Den to General Meade's sword. The final chapter examines the products made by the best known makers from the Golden Age of Gettysurg collecting, 1863-1900, a gilded ear when the battlefield was scoured to provide materials for shadow boxes, desk ornaments and similar commercial items. In the end, this is a simple book with a simple mission: to tell the story of the battle. Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Arguably of all the branches of the German armed forces in World War Two, only the Kriegsmarine had the ability to bring Britain to defeat once the immediate threat of invasion after Dunkirk had receded. With the threat posed by its U-Boats and great capital ships, such as the Bismarck and Tirpitz, the Kriegsmarine, through its attacks on the convoys bringing vital supplies across the Atlantic, came close to starving Britain into submission. Despite this, the Kriegsmarine is perhaps the least well known element of the German armed forces. Its wartime role lacked the undoubted glamour of the aircraft and aces of the Luftwaffe or the epic qualities of the great land battles fought by the German army, particularly in the east. In addition, many U-Boat crews were lost at sea, taking their stories with them. This addition to a popular series will provide the collector with detailed and objective advice on Kriegsmarine memorabilia with the usual guide to values and how to spot forgeries. For all active collectors of Third Reich militaria and those interested in the Kriegsmarine during the period from 1939 to 1945, this will be essential reading.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Led by the flamboyant Hermann Goring, himself a fighter ace of World War 1, the Luftwaffe was probably the most glamorous part of the German armed forces during World War 2. With its pilots, such as Adolf Galland, becoming household names for the successes in the skies, the Luftwaffe was pivotal both to the early successes wrought by Germany in the war during the Blitzkrieg assaults on Poland and western Europe. It was, however, the failure of the Luftwaffe to achieve aerial supremacy over the English Channel and southeast England during the Battle of Britain that led to Hitler's decision to cancel the invasion of Britain and, although the Luftwaffe was to achieve further significant victories in the east following the invasion of Russia, Goring's failure to defeat the Royal Air Force and to prevent Allied bombing of Germany were to reduce significantly both his and the Luftwaffe's standing with Hitler. In his fourth contribution to the highly successful 'Collector's Guide' series, noted collector and expert Chris Ailsby examines the wide range of equipment, uniforms, medals and awards specifically associated with the Luftwaffe during World War 2. Alongside the detailed descriptions of the militaria being discussed are photographs and a ratings system designed to allow the user and reader to gauge relative values. Some 60 years after the end of World War 2, interest in Third Reich militaria remains strong and, inevitably, in any popular area of collecting there is material of doubtful provenance designed to catch out the unwary. The 'Collector's Guide' series has proved an essential guide for those interested in the subject and this latest addition to the series will continue to buildupon the considerable reputation that the series has built up over the years. Providing the collector with detailed and objective advice, the book should be essential reading for any active collector of Third Reich militaria as well as those interested in the Luftwaffe during the period from 1933 to 1945.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Table of Contents: - Collector Bookstore Notes: This book covers the US Infantry guns and weapons used in combat, but with a twist; it exclusively contains soldier's first-hand stories about their experiences with these fabled weapons. Publisher's Description: The first thing that the reader must know about this book is that it is a gun book. It is not simply war stories, but sixty-five interviews with soldiers and Marines specifically relating their experiences with the US infantry weapons in combat during World War II and in the Korean War. The differing opinions of these men is fascinating. One man loved the M1 rifle and hated the M1 carbine while the next loved the M1 carbine and hated the M1 rifle. Based upon his personal experiences each man had his own opinion on the weapons that he had used during these wars and relates those observations to the reader. So much of what we collectors and history buffs think we know about the use of US infantry weapons in combat has been derived from two sources: movies and books. Some movies, like Band of Brothers are very accurate, others are not. The general history books of these wars rarely contain the in-depth details of infantry weapons that would be of interest to collectors. The stories about US infantry weapons contained in this book are the real hands-on experiences of the men who actually used them for their intended purposes. Once I began reading these interviews, I could not put the manuscript down. - Scott Duff  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Collector Bookstore Notes: This book covers British Royal Air Force pilots trained at Falcon Field, Arizona during WWII. Publisher's Description: In one of the most audacious experiments of WWII an experiment born of the greatest necessity, a Hollywood corporation hired civilian pilots to teach British aviation cadets how to fly United States Army airplanes. Training began in June 1941 six months before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor officially brought America into the war. More than 2000 Royal Air Force (RAF) cadets trained at Falcon Field in Mesa, Arizona, during WWII. Those cadets spent over 300,000 hours in the air and flew a distance of forty-five million miles. That training would eventually put them in the fighters and bombers over France and Germany where their final exam would be administered by the German Luftwaffe. Over 180 photographs and dozens of first-hand accounts complement this memorable exploration into the joint effort made by Great Britain and the United States to fill the immense need for trained RAF pilots. Class rosters, reconstructed in the Appendices, detail the WWII activities of Falcon graduates and give long overdue credit in print to those who trained at Falcon. Those boys and thousands more like them won the war. "Excellent research and documentation. The RAF in Arizona, Falcon Field 1941-1945 should be in any serious military aviation collection and would be a valued gift for anyone interested in RAF history or Arizona history." Publisher's Description: This is the first English language work to examine the subject in detail and the first in any language to identify, describe, and quantify variations and production figures for the models covered. The book focuses on the Czechoslovak Communist period (1948-1989), but reaches back into the 1930s in order to trace the history of the 6.35 mm Duo pocket pistol, which remained in production under the name "Z" until 1974 with a total of thirteen distinct marking variations, and the 6.35 mm model 1945, which had its beginnings as the model 1936. The 7.65 mm model 50 police pistol and its successor, the model 70, are covered in depth, documenting both marking variations and a significant number of design changes introduced during their thirty-three-year production life. The 7.62 mm model 52 Army pistol is given extensive treatment based on data drawn from over 2,000 specimens; in addition to descriptions of both standard and rare variants, significant discussion of the pistol's mechanical characteristics and potential safety problems is presented. Also covered are the more modern commercial CZ 75 and CZ 85, the military model 82, and the commercial CZ 83, as are small caliber target pistols and signal pistols.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Over three million personnel served in Vietnam, but only those of the U.S. Navy Task Force 116 wore the distinctive black beret while serving and fighting as the River Patrol Forces in the murky, brown waters of the Mekong Delta. Those who served in Task Force 116 are among the most elite teams deployed by the U.S. Navy in Vietnam: PBRs, SEALs, Seawolves, and Black Ponies. Their mission was to route the enemy deep within the secluded waterways of the Delta. Sharks, dragons, Seawolves....this book illustrates the colorful insignia, emblems and artifacts used by these units in great detail. Many of these patches, jungle fatigues, and tigerstripes didn't survive because of the environments of war in South East Asia and the restrictions placed upon U.S. sailors. The unit patches produced by the River Patrol Forces used symbols of heraldry, strength, defiance, and sometimes humor which represents the best of men fighting to protect their "brothers in arms." The black berets and the distinctive unit patches emblazoned on their jungle jackets and worn into battle brought these men together as a team.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. This new book boldly displays the firearms, swords, and accouterments of the American provincial soldiers during the French and Indian War, 1754 1763. Unlike their British counterparts, the American provincials were issued a wide range of weapons from standard British Long Land muskets and carbines to civilian rifles and fowlers. These were often old, used, and in poor condition, guns that were described by British officers as "of sorts for Provincial". These weapons did not come only from British contractors and the Board of Ordnance, but from foreign countries such as Holland, Belgium, and France. Each style of long arm came with a unique bayonet, many of which are shown throughout the book. Original examples of these unique weapons, as well as excavated pieces, are shown from public and private collections throughout the country. Close-up views of the unique maker's marks, proof marks, top views, and detail views show features rarely revealed. Long arms, a variety of swords, knives, pole-arms, and pistols were used by the American soldiers. Besides weapons, the accouterments used by the soldiers are also covered, including cartridge pouches and boxes, shot pouches, powder horns, powder measures, and cleaning tools. A native of Virginia, Jim Mullins has exhaustively researched this subject, utilizing original journals, orderly books, and official military records housed on both sides of the Atlantic. The results have been meticulously broken down by year and by colony. He tells the story of the many problems encountered while arming the American colonial soldiers, by using actual quotes from the correspondence of the British officers. Some of the quotes are harsh critiques of the undisciplined American soldiers and volunteers. Showcased in high resolution, full color, all images were made by photographer and author Ryan R. Gale whose companion book, A Soldier-Like Way has become a favorite on French and Indian War arms of the British Infantry. Also included are many original paintings, drawings, and maps from a variety of American museums and collectors. Printed in landscape format, the 11 x 8-1/2" format allows for beautiful wide color photos, on the fine coated paper. Long guns and swords are shown in wide views, up to 22" wide across-the-gutter. Important early antique guns from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, the Jim Mullins collection, the Wallace Gusler collection, and many private collections are shown in the beautiful photographs by Ryan Gale. Author Jim Mullins has created "Of Sorts for Provincials", American Weapons of the French and Indian War. One glimpse will reveal that this book was a true labor-of-love. <P "Of Sorts for Provincials" is a must-have book for any French and Indian War historian, re-enactor, or collector.
