Wilson's Creek also called Oak Hill was the first big battle west of the Mississippi. 5000 Union Troops and 10,000 Confederate and State troops engaged and 2500 mens were killed or wounded.

75 years later, this program commemorated the loss of both sides with a description of the battle and

its final result which kept Missouri in the union. The ceremony itself included both Union and Confederate Sons of Veterans. Interesting read and a affordable Civil War collectible.

Beautiful and elegant sterling silver cuff links, Each cuff link has been signed Birks ellis sterling, Each measuring close to 1/2 inches long.  Here we have a very neat piece left over from way back in the days of our Civil War. This old candle lamp is spring loaded so as the candle burns down, the candle can be raised up a notch at a time to provide light during the darkest nights. This type of candle powered wall light was used in various types of Railroad cars, from sleeping cars to cabooses, where ever a little bit of easily portable light might be needed. This nice looking antique brass lamp stands 14 inches tall and has two notches on the back for hanging on the wall. A neat piece for any Civil War or Railroad enthusiast.  Nice looking Civil War dug relic two piece Eagle two piece brass buckle in as found, and very nice aged condition. Another piece of Civil War History from a larger old time collection that will please even the most particular collector. This was a standard pre-war issue buckle supplied to several different state militia's and was worn by soldiers from both sides during the great conflict. Free shipping inside US. Others please ask for a shipping quote.  Here is an original Civil War relic issued to it's soldiers by the Confederate State of South Carolina. The buckle has a great looking age patina and based on the quality of the stamping details, was likely produced in the early days of the Civil War. I have been trying all sorts of different camera exposures in an effort to determine if the marks I show in photo number three are someone's initials, or just my eyes playing tricks on me. I think I'll stick with the former.

This buckle was part of a very extensive collection of Civil War pieces that obviously took the original owner most of his life to gather together. I have quite a good selection of different pieces from this collection listed and will from time to time be adding more to the shop. I think there were only two pieces in this entire collection in quantities of two. For the most part the items I have to offer from this collector are the only one I have, so if you like something, please don't wait too long to buy it, or someone may beat you to it. The Confederate pieces I are especially hard to come by and when they are gone, they are more than likely gone for good.

I'm offering a number of these rare finds at Sale Prices and in most cases all of these old accoutrements also give you the bonus of Free shipping inside the USA; buyers outside the US, please ask me for a shipping quote.

This is lovely second World War Celluloid and Sterling Silver Heart Pendant, Measuring about 1 1/2 inches long and close to 1 1/2 wide,   This item is an antique three (3) piece Razor and Strop set made during the US Civil War Period. The Razor was made by Wade and Butcher, Sheffield, England and has a tortoise shell handle. The Razor is about 10 inches long when opened and about 6 and 1/2 inches long when closed. The bllade is about 5/8 inches wide. It is stored in a tin case which has wooden ends and a brass knob on one end. In the wood on the other end of the case is a round section cut into it which is filled with wax which is used in sharpening the blade of the Razor. This Case is about 8 inches long and 1 and 1/2 inches wide. The tin case fits inside the third piece of this set. This is the Strop itself and a carrying case for the Razor and wax. The Strop and case is made of wood and tin and covered in leather. The wood with the leather on it on the the bak of this case is the actual strop. This piece is about 13 and 3/4 inches long; 1 and 1/2 inches wide and 5/8 inches high. The wood may be Rosewood or Mahogany. All three of these pieces are in very good condition. They show some wear which is consistent with their age. The tortoise shell handle appears to have a small crack near the hinge.  This is an original Civil Car Cavalry Hat Badge - The familiar Crossed Swords made of brass. This was actually a Pre-Civil War insignia and for that reason it was worn by members of both the Union & Confederate Cavalry units during that conflict. In fact, even though this large size insignia; (approximately 1¾ inches high by 3¼ inches wide) was retired and replaced at the end of the Civil War with a new, smaller version, General George Patton actually wore this same old style and size insignia on his collar, while serving as a Lieutenant during our conflict with Mexico.

This particular hat insignia was purchased some 20 years ago from a small antique shop, several miles to the west of Gettysburg, Pa.. The brass swords have look like they've been left to age themselves with the passing of time, as you can see in places where no verdigris has formed, the brass has a deep brown patina.

This is not a pristine piece. There exist the normal bruises and bumps of use and wear, but to me that adds much more character to this old Cavalry Insignia. This will make a fine addition to any collection of Civil War artifacts.

Free US Shipping  A very nice looking brass bugle that Infantry soldiers wore on the top of the standard issue Kepi Hats. The insignia has been in my collection for about 25 years and was purchased from a private seller near Harper's Ferry. I have no doubt this piece is authentic and was once worn by a foot soldier during the Civil War.

I believe this to be an ID tag that would have been fastened to the wooded frame of a cannon or caisson to signify the unit it belonged with. In this case i am fairly sure that this 4 3/4 by 2 1/2 inch, hand hammered brass oval plate was attached to one of the smaller sized cannon used by Cavalry regiments, thus the fancy number 2 on the oval tag would mean this piece came from a piece of military hardware belonging to the 2nd Union Cavalry.

The plate is a rare enough piece by itself, but what I find most interesting about it is what I am able to see on it's back. Perhaps my eyes are playing tricks on me, but there seem to be quite a few markings and letters, badly worn, but still partially visible. Please take a look at the photos to see if you can see them too. :) Ships Free   Here is a very nice Civil War blanket roll buckle as seen in the collectors encylopedia of the CIVIL WAR By Lords.

Although these buckle covers were originally used as part of the Cavalry's saddle gear, the Lords book gives reference to it also being used frequently by the Confederate soldiers as part of their binding for their blankets. This is a very good looking, mellow age patina'd piece and is also in quite nice condition.

THIS IS A REF WHICH SHOWS THESE AS BEING

CONFEDERATE AND USED FOR BLANKET ROLL BELTS/

I'm certain this piece was the face of a Confederate cartridge box plate. Cartridge box plates were made using the same dies those from which belt buckle face plates were produced. This is certainly the size, style and pattern one would expect to find used for a0 cartridge box plate. The Photos and information about this cartridge box plate can be found in the reference book by Sydney Kerksis entitled, Plates and Buckles of the American Military 1795 to 1874. It is pictured as a buckle on page 277 and identified as figure 270, but as i said earlier , the same dies that were used in making buckles were also used to form the faces of the box plates. I could be wrong and perhaps this is actually a belt buckle plate, but either way it is one I bought almost thirty years ago at a roadside market south of Frederick, Md. as i made my way to conduct some business in Charleston W.Va. If I had been able to afford all the things I would have liked to buy back in thoase times when items like this could occasionally be bought from venders and at yard sales found in so many of the historic battle cites I spent so many years doing business in, I would have been rich and retired for years by now. Unfortunately money was not sometyhing I had very much extra on hand back then, but sometimes its nice to think about what might have been.

Free US shipping with purchase.   This old Civil War insignia is about as rare as lips on a chicken. Mostly worn by high-ranking officers, the false embroider brass cavalry bugle is as finely made as a piece of expensive jewelry. This one has a wonderful plumb brown age patina and looks like it was kept in a relatively safe environment for most of the last 150 + years. There is a small amount of verdigris on the front of the bugle, but that just adds to the beauty of the patina. If you’re after a Civil War piece that not many people can say they have in their collections, you may want to consider adding this fine old insignia from the Civil War to your collection.

This rare old brass medal came to us with a great many other pieces that all date to a Reunion of Civil War Veterans and their families that took place in Gettysburg, Pa. in 1915. This medal commemorates the Monument to the Soldiers from the town of Hanover, Pa. and would have been given to one of the veterans of that campaign. Nicely marked, but unreadable to me, the maker's name and other info will surely be easier for someone younger to read.

Nicely detailed with the Hanover town seal, date and rendition of the actual monument, this is one of those really hard to find bits of Civil War history.

Another of the great old pieces we bought that came from a 1915 reunion of Civil War Veterans and their families. This is a small lapel pin of our American flag and would have been worn by one of the veteran's of the Civil War.  This old brass medal came to us with a great many other pieces that all date to a Reunion of Civil War Veterans and their families that took place in Gettysburg, Pa. in 1915. This old medal would have been worn by a member of the Daughters of Veterans of the Civil War. The piece is worn and aged, but still in wonderful condition, as you can see.  Well here's a piece you don't see every day. My best assessment of this odd looking item is that it was once worn as an eye patch by someone who had either made it or had it made for them, out of what seems to be a piece of tanned pig skin. I fully believe this patch once was worn by a veteran of the Civil War. I have reached this conclusion because the patch was amoung a great many old medals and other souveniers that date to a 1915 reunion of Civil War veterans and their families at Gettysburg. Judge for yourself. I think its pretty cool.

Here are four hand made dominoes that date back to the time of the Civil War. Dominoes was one of the favorite games played by soldiers of both armies, on the rare occasions the men had time to play games. Hand made using bone for the tops, ebony for the dark bottoms and a brass pin through the center to hold to two halves together. I've placed four dominoes in a small display case, which I think makes a real nice and very unusual gift.  Bothe of these letters are dated 1866, signed by Col. Harrington asking an official in the Government for employment of young man who lost leg at the "Battle of the Wilderness."

It is stamped with the Capital impress.

"The brave Mr. Henry J. Danforth, one of our citizens, who lost a leg at the Battle of the Wilderness seeks employment. He is a young man of good education, excellent habits, and strict integrity. I would commend him to your kindest sympathies, and trust it may be consistent for you to aid him"

The second letter is letter is to another goverment offical, signed by what appears not only to Col. Harrington, but several members of his unit.

"He is a young man of good education, and excellent penman, correct habits, and strict integrity, and the strongest recommendations from his officers as a good soldier...I hope and trust it may be consistent for you to assist him to obtain employment believing that we owe a debt to our disabled soldiers..."

These documents is great insight to the aftermath of a terrible civil war.

Quite possibly one-of-a-kind woodcut or wood engraving(not a modern reproduction or from a period publication). Each color was printed by hand using a seperate woodblock. It depicts a woman and a Union officer trying to stop an attack on a fallen Confederate soldier by 3 Union? soldiers. I'm not sure if this was to illustrate a long forgotten battlefield incident, or a comment on the confusing social and political issues of the time(ie. the brother vs. brother issue). It is unsigned and undated, I would love to be able to research the artist if known. Certainly a period piece by the style. Size is 5 in.x 7 3/8 in., framed size is 11 in.x 12 in.. Frame is a period style modern gilt wood frame, gray and blue double mat(100%cotton rag and backing, archivally mounted). Wire hanger and bumper pads. Framing is mint condition with 1 tiny back bottom corner chip(barely noticeable), print has a small dark stain(looks like ink)on the left upper tree line, and a few tears on the bottom edge which have been archivally repaired. Perfect for gift-giving and worthy of the most advanced Civil War collection!
