Wishbone and Drapery plate in an electrifying blue opalescent glass produced by Jefferson glass circa 1904. It has a wonderful beaded pattern that continues to the center of the plate and is approximately 8.25 inches in diameter, 1.50 inches tall and in good used condition with slight utensil markings you can see in bright reflective light and table wear to the bottom foot where it meets the table, but you will not find any nicks, chips or cracks. This piece does have a very unique manufacturer’s defect of smoke trapped inside the glass as the picture shows. But the glass is still very shiny and reflective and displays well as you can see in the pictures.  Probably was a beer bottle. This brown bottle is 11" tall.  It does have a chip on the bottom (see picture), but is not noticeable when standing.  Otherwise in excellent condition.  Japanese Chokin Trinket Box measures 3 3/4" in diameter and 1 3/3" tall. On the bottom it reads: "THE ART OF CHOKIN Metal engravings from Japan are created by the ancient art of Chokin. Gilded with gold and silver, the engravings were originally created to decorate the armament of the SAMURAI warriors. Made in Japan." Some wear to the gold rim and some misuse of the top in what seems to be some little dents.  Collectible Western Pacific Railway Mug - Feather River Route. Logo is in red white and black. Measures 3 3/4" tall and 3 1/8" in diameter not including handle. In very good condition.

Marvin Middlemark (Born September 16, 1919 – Died September 1989) invented the Rabbit Ears television Antenna (Dipole antenna) in 1956 in Rego Park, Queens, New York. He revolutionized how television was watched in the United States, as his Rabbit Ears increased the television signal reception made available to the mass market, this move is considered by many as the single most important reason for the television boom of the late 1950’s – 1960’s.

In used condition, the connector wire is frayed, the base of the antenna is off and a small disc is broken which I have shown in my pictures but the front dial with 6 numbers is readable. Made of cast metal and bakelite they measure 17 inches tall, 3 1/4 inches wide and 4 3/4 inches deep.

Nude Lady Nut Cracker—Full wood figurine of a woman—Legs come apart and nut placed in slots to crack nut—Measures 13 ¼ inches long x 2 ½ inches wide  24" with shade, lamp, 14x12x3.5" Famous horn lamp by designer Karl Springer.

Karl Springer (1930 – 1991)

German born, French educated New York City based Springer is known for his lavish interpretations of Art Deco lines and the use of exotic skins and materials. His style encompassed the gamut from French Art Deco, to Asian and African motifs. His proficiency in materials is second only to his prolific designs, often customized for each client. Karl Springer is synonymous with quality, encouraging his workshop to strive for excellence rather than quick turnaround. His designs were executed in wood, metal, lacquer and lucite, with many of his most recognizable pieces covered in leather, parchment, shagreen, horn or reptile skins. The outstanding quality of his furniture has lead to a strong secondary resale market for Springer's designs with all major auction houses and 20th century dealers now offering his work.

Porcelain Shoe on Thimble, about 1 1/2" high. New porcelain miniature figurine.  Porcelain Shoe on Thimble, about 1 1/2" high. New porcelain miniature figurine.  Dugan / Diamond produced this beautiful Diamond Maple Leaf Blue Opalescent two handled Bon Bon dish circa 1909. This beautiful hard to find bon bon has a wonderful design that has flowing scroll designs around realistic looking maple leaves. It is approximately 7.50 inches long and 5.00 inches wide not counting the handles and is 3.00 inches at the tallest point. There is tableware to the bottom but no nicks, chips or cracks. You will find some manufacturer defects common to the time such as a couple of small inclusion bubbles, two very small tool marks from shaping the glass. Also if you hold this up to a direct bright light you will see some spotting, we are not sure if it is the opalescent treatment or slight sickness. Usually sick glass is a constant big spot, and can be seen without direct light and on a dark background, so we are leaning to the opalescent treatment. We only mention this because if we were purchasing the piece we would want to know before we purchase the item.  Miniature Enamel Metal Box, about 7/8" high x 7/8" across. New item.

Marker 10 1/2, (my size) A very rare & museum quality, pair of Iver Johnson roller skates. Patented 6/5/1877, made in 1884. These have wooden wheels, pivoting front & rear wheels, & in amazing original condition. These appear to be a more sophisticated version of the 1863 Plimpton design. (last picture)

From the first recorded use of roller skates on a London stage in 1743 through the next 120 years, all roller skates were in-line skates. However, the design of these in-line skates did not allow the skater to turn or stop efficiently.

James L. Plimpton, frustrated by the roller skates available, invented a new type of roller skate that would revolutionize the sport.

In January 1863, Plimpton patented a four-wheeled roller skate that was capable of turning. The mechanism had a pivoting action dampened by a rubber cushion which permitted the roller skater to curve by leaning in the desired direction of travel. Plimpton built a roller skating floor in the office of his New York City furniture business and leased out his skates. He founded the New York Roller Skating Association (NYRSA) to promote the sport.

In the summer of 1866, the NYRSA leased the fashionable resort hotel, the Atlantic House, in Newport, Rhode Island, and converted the dining room into a skating area. This was the first roller skating rink open to the public in the United States.

WONDERFUL, EARLY LETTER OPENER WITH THE U.S. CONGRESSIONAL LIBRARY, WASHINGTON D.C. ON THE FRONT WITH A PICTURE OF THIS HUGE BUILDING. THE BACK HAS A RAISED, MOLDED FLOWER PATTERN WITH A SCROLLED FRAMING. THE END IS VERY HEAVY METAL AND LOOKS TO HAVE SOME DISCOLORATION AND NEEDS POLISHING. WE DO NOT POLISH AND OLD METAL, BUT LEAVE THE PATINA AS IS. IT IS 6 1/2 INCHES LONG AND 1 1/2 INCHES WIDE. THIS IS A GREAT, UNUSUAL PIECE TO FIND.  A delicate Nippon porcelain handpainted dresser or vanity set consisting of a tri-footed hair receiver and a lidded powder jar. The handpainting has gold beading and individually painted roses and leaves, exquisite work. This set has been used and loved. While there are no chips, cracks or other flaws, the constant use has rubbed a bit of the gold off as seen in the photos. Not enough to mar the beauty of this set, just enough to show its antiquity. The mark shown is the Komaru symbol. It is shown in black and white because of photograpy difficulties. It is actually blue on the white porcelain. The symbol is said to be taken from the Japanese character "Komaru", meaning "overcoming difficulties". The words hand painted over the symbol and below is Nippon. This is a very early mark, possibly from 1910. The mark was used by a forerunner of Noritake.

11 x 7" Ink & watercolor sketch of a woman with a fur hat. Appears 1930's vintage, signed Ponce. Comes with a note from the son of the previous owner who was a friend of Ponce's. If you can decipher it, please enlighten me. Decent as found condition. Signed Ponce L.

In 1915 he registered in the in the San Alejandro Fine Arts Academy, but being a bohemian, an independent, he did not graduate, so he left the school and get lost from Havana. From then on he rambled nearby towns, gave drawing lessons to poor children, drew film posters, made cigarette propaganda, and did other casual works. In 1930 he returned to Havana, alcoholic and sick of TB. Despite of this, he arranged his first personal exhibition oil pantings and drawings at the Havana Lyceum. Style, matters and formal treatment, decome concrete in very pasty oil paintings, milky white, elongated figures and poorly defined monocromatism, certain abstractions, melancholic themes related with illness, death and religion. He participated in the XVII Fine Arts Salon (1934) with his oil painting Paisaje (Landscape). From that moment are some of his most significative works: Tuberculosis, Beatas, which next year won a prize in the National Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture. Acknowledged and appreciated he participated in collective exhibitions, and arranged personal exhibitions.

After a relatively steady períod, he began a new rambling stage in 1943. However his oil painting, San Ignacio de Loyola is part of the exhibition Pintores Modernos Cubanos (Cuban Modern Painters) Museum of Modern Art of New York, 1944 and he also took part in Pintura Moderna Cubana (Modern Cuban Painting) in the Fine Arts Palace, Mexico D.F., 1946; II Pintores Cubanos (Cuban painters) (Fine Arts Museum, Buenos Aires, 1946); and in Cuban Modern Paintings in Washington Collections (Washington, DC. 1947)

The Lyceum organized an exhibition of his work in April, 1949. The National Museum, Palace of Fine Arts, Havana City, presented an anthological exhibition on the centennial of his birth in 1995.   This vintage cast iron Scottish Terrier Dog is marked: Derby / Hershey / Conn.

Made with a hole in his back to hold a pen or pencil, he's heavy enough to be used as a desk paperweight also!

FLORENCIO GELABERT CUBAN ARTIST DIPLOMA

FLORENCIO GELABERT CUBAN ABSTRACT EXPRSN

11.25 x 9" Mid 1980's (Feast of love period) erotic pastel nude. Comes with certificate of authenticity, good condition, 7 tiny insect holes -1mm, slight diagonal wrinkle top half. All problems easily restoratable.

Galleria Frozen Beauty is pleased to present two beautiful works on paper by Cuban artist Mariano Rodriguez. (See other listing) "Mariano" was born in Havana in 1912. Since boyhood, he was interested in drawing and painting. In 1936 he went to Mexico where he studied for a year and a half with the muralists Manuel Rodriguez Lozano and Pablo O’Higgins. When he returned to Cuba his technique bore a close resemblance to that of the modern Mexican masters. In 1938 his painting "UNIDAD" received top honors at the National Exhibit of Painting and Sculpture in Havana.

Mariano is part of that generation of Cuban artists who felt the urgency to break with the influences of the Academics. Constantly and tirelessly in search of a vehicle by which to express his personality in the context of a truly "Cuban" expression, in 1941 he started to elaborate on his theme of the roosters. In the early 40’s he was influenced by the great European masters, especially Picasso and Matisse; in 1967 he started his series of "Fruit and Reality"; in 1980 he began the series of the "Masses", and in the mid eighties, the final "Feast of Love". Through it all he faithfully continued to strive for essentially "Cuban" elements, the most consistent of which was the virility of the rooster, master of the domestic patio: in every one of his phases Mariano painted a rooster.

His work is owned, among others, by the following museums: Guayaquil University, Ecuador; Cali, Colombia; Mexico City; Havana; Managua, Nicaragua; San Francisco; MOMA New York; Kansas City; Caracas; Buenos Aires, Argentina; the Chicago Art Institute; and UNESCO, Paris.  BELL TELEPHONE GREEN CROSS SAFETY COMMITTEE COPPER SERVICE PIN 5/8"

<p>Look at the AWSUM detail and condition, on this vintage 5/8" Copper Service Pin, made for the Bell Telephone Safety Committee. It features a green cross in the center of the bell logo. It is in excellent condition. This will make a great addition to any Bell or Service Pin collection.

This is an unusual set. It is a creamer and sugar made of a white metal. Could be silver plate but

it is not marked. The interior is white enamel. Some has come off the creamer. It is a heavy

embossed rose pattern. Looks very Victorian to me. Both are 2 3/4" tall. Creamer is 4 3/8" long

and sugar is 4 3/4" long.

Two Miniature Canadian Souvenir Plates. Niagara Falls by Liverpool Road Pottery, 5" across. Other 4" across, Japan. Both in excellent condition.
