This 27 page sheet music booklet merits the description, a rare find. Published in 1898 by the world’s oldest Publishing House, Breitkopf and Hartel of Leipsig, Brussels, London and New York, the Songs of Persia are a cycle of six songs, music written by Granville Bantock, a well-known British composer of classical music.

Heavily influenced by Arabian and Celtic works, the six featured songs (English words by Helena Bantock) are:

1) The Drinking Song (To Sultan Timour) 2) Hymn of the Ghebers (Fire Worshippers) – Based on an 1892 Thomas Moore work, Lalla Rookh 3) The Simargh – Also known as Angha, a benevolent mythical flying creature 4) In the Harem – The Story of the Carpet 5) Zal 6) The Pearl & The Rose

The cover of this 1898 musical treasury features a classic Persian design with an inset of the flag of Iran as it appeared before the 1979 Revolution. A lion holding a scimitar is shown with the sun in the background.

This true antique musical offering is in excellent condition with a small tear at the bottom left of the cover and browning to the pages. There are no other tears or markings present on this wonderful piece of musical history, which is Registered in the Archives of the Union.  The only note we make is that there are areas of missing paper on front cover. 3 3/4 Inch IPS Reel appears to be in very good vintage condition, although we have no equipment to test this.

Although we do not have the equipment to test this Reel to Reel, it appears to be in very good vintage condition, with the note that there are areas of missing paper on the cover, especially on the backside of the box.  The 1970’s vintage pin-up of three Kiss band members – Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Ace Frehley features them in a stage performance. Bright red, gold and black colors with the Kiss name in lights gives this 16 x 20 1/2 inch poster visual punch.

The reverse side is a black and white solo picture of Gene Simmons, all decked out in his Demon make-up with costume that emphasizes that devilish theme. And of course, there is Gene’s trademark tongue pose.

There are no rips, tears or pin holes on this poster but there are crease lines present where it has been folded for storage. The poster will also be folded in order to ship.

The Kiss drummer, Peter Criss is featured on this large 26 3/4 x 21 inch poster. A combination of theatrical and musical performance made this band a stand-out among 1970’s groups. With his original cat make-up and dramatic green, black, and silver costume, Peter shines on this solo pin-up picture.

The reverse side has a black and white head and top of torso picture. There are no tears or pin holes present but there are crease lines where the picture was folded for magazine insert and storage. The poster will also be folded for shipping.  The color picture of the Demon, better known as Gene Simmons, bass guitarist and singer/songwriter for the Rock Band Kiss, is front and center of one side of this 29 x 21 1/2 inch poster. Known for his inventive make-up and stage costuming as well as his musicianship, Gene Simmons is as bold as his 8 inch dragon shoes. He is shown here in a glitzy, demonesque red, black and silver outfit.

The reverse black and white picture captures all of the visually dynamic stage presence of Gene Simmons. The poster is in fine vintage condition with the note that there are crease marks present where the picture was folded for the magazine insert and a small pin hole on the bottom. The poster will be folded for shipping.  From the 70’s era of rock and pop music is this 16 Magazine pull-out insert that has Kiss rhythm guitarist and vocalist Paul Stanley on one side and Andy Gibb, the youngest brother of the Bee Gees, who died shortly after his 30th birthday, on the reverse side.

The pin-up measures 23 inches high x 10 3/4 inches wide and has a tall, narrow profile. Both artists are shown in full color pictures with Paul Stanley dressed in one of his signature glam stage costumes – pink, black, and glittering silver. Andy Gibb, with his boyish good looks, is wearing black leather pants, white shirt with scarf accessory and black vest.

There are no pin holes, rips or tears on this 16 Magazine pull-out, but there are crease lines present where it had been folded for the magazine insert. The poster will be folded as well in order to ship.  Written for solo piano, this 1955 June Weybright, Buy My Tortillas music sheet has a wonderful drawing with the Andes Mountains as the backdrop, of two individuals with tortillas to sell. The words to the Chilean Folk Song are printed beneath the title of the song on page one.

This Belwin Publishers music sheet is in fine condition without any markings, rips, or tears, just some yellowing of the pages appropriate for its 56 years of age.

A terrific cover illustration on this 1939 musical offering, Black Pirates which features one of those legendary pirates (could be Blackbeard). Marie Seuel Holst dedicated this piano solo to her close friend Hilma Berg Kline and this is printed above the title of the song.

This 3 page music sheet is in terrific condition for its age with only some yellowing of its pages, but no rips or markings noted.  A wonderful vintage 16 page music sheet booklet entitled, Love Sonnets by J.S. Zamecnik, published by Sam Fox of Cleveland, Ohio. Written for the piano, the three melodies were inspired by the poems of Owen Meredith, Love Fancies, Henry W. Longfellow, The Secret of the Sea and Thomas Moore, The Bee and the Floweret.

Each of the original poems is printed in the booklet, along with an illustration that captures the theme of the poem. Following each poem is the piano melody with the same title as the poet’s words.

The music booklet is over-sized, measuring 9 1/2 x 12 1/4 inches and is secured with a piece of cord/yarn. The only note we make is browning/yellowing of the pages. There are no rips, tears or markings on this marvelous vintage item.  This official Kiss Magazine Star Log Movie Series #5 was printed in 1998, just before their Psycho Circus tour had begun.

Magazine features exclusive interviews with the band members, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss. There are 3 huge double-sided posters contained within the magazine; one of each of the band members, along with group photos of the band.

Magazine is in pristine, unread condition. It was placed in plastic with cardboard backing by the original owner who had purchased 2 copies-one to read, and one to keep as a collector's item.  The Tech Show Archives at MIT, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, exhibits rare and hard-to-find vintage memorabilia including vocal scores and scripts from their student productions. The first of these musical revues and vaudeville comedies was performed in 1899 to help eradicate the debt of the Athletic Department. Held annually until 1969, the Tech Shows involved dozens of MIT students in choral, orchestral, and ballet numbers as well as in the writing of the original scripts, musical offerings, and acting.

This original 1924 Hidden Idol is a true memorabilia gem. Within its 48 pages are the scores of fourteen original songs, with credit given to the individual students and their class dates. Among the song selections are:

A Cozy Corner in a Broadway Cabaret Girls

The 9 1/2 x 12 1/2 inch Hidden Idol softcover book is in very good vintage condition for its nearly ninety years. There is browning and wear appropriate for its age, but no tears, rips or markings. The MIT Archives do not have an example of this 1924 offering, so we do believe we have a special, Tech Show rarity.

Old reproducer part from Edison phonograph. Sound box. Not sure if it works - how do you tell? Measures 46 mm high and 40 mm diameter (about 1.3/4 inches by just over 1.1/2 inches). It has "Model-C" stamped to the rear, and "Reproducer Licensed for use only on Edison Phonographs. Sold by Nat’l Phono Co." Has some little green patches, but appears very sound original condition. The photo makes it seem very dirty - it’s not, much of this is just surface accumulation, and cleans up. Been in storage too long!  Recorded in England, this white label with purple Threshold banner features ten Moody Blues songs.

Side One:

Question, How Is It (We Are Here), And The Tide Rushes In, Don’t You Feel Small?, Tortoise and the Hare

Side Two:

It’s Up to You, Minstrel’s Song, Dawning is the Day, Melancholy Man, The Balance

Cellophane wrap partially covers album cover which does have minor wear associated with its 1970 age. The Record has inner paper sleeve and is in VG++ condition with some light scuffing and scratching, but over-all in fine vintage condition.  Among a small number of musical groups who were able to marry classical music with modern-day rock were The Moody Blues, known for their song writing abilities as well as their marvelous instrumental talents.

This 1970 German release on the Deram label has twelve song offerings:

Side One:

Departure, Ride My See-Saw, Dr. Livingstone, I Presume, House of Four Doors, Legend of a Mind, House of Four Doors (Part 2)

Side Two:

Voices in the Sky, Best Way to Travel, Visions of Paradise, The Actor, The Word, Om

The cellophane shrink wrap is partially in place on the jacket and there is some edge wear and discoloration to the album cover. The record is in VG++ condition with some minor scuffs and scratching and is in the original paper sleeve.  Columbia Masterworks presents Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic with eleven dazzling dance selections.

The box has some paper worn away at top, bottom and edging, but is intact and sturdy. Although we do not have equipment to test the 7 1/2 inch IPS reel tape, it appears to be in very fine vintage condition.

We do note browning/discoloration to the backside and edges of the box, but otherwise, the Columbia 7 1/2 inch IPS reel to reel tape appears to be in very good vintage condition, although we do not have the equipment to test this.   Perhaps best known for his portrayal of Gomer Pyle, the twangy voiced Marine, Jim Nabors and his rich baritone singing voice will surprise listeners unfamiliar with his singing talent. Produced by Columbia Records, this 7 1/2 inch IPS Reel to Reel tape, The Lord’s Prayer and Other Sacred Songs, is a terrific showcase for his inspirational interpretations of these well-known hymns.

Side One:

In 1991, Personality Comics published a four issue mini series on The Beatles. Each magazine had an in-depth analysis of one of the Beatles, beginning with John Lennon. This episode #2 features Paul McCartney in The Beatles spotlight throughout its twenty-four pages of artful cartoon drawings.

Marvelous black and white pencil drawings along with a literate, informed text give readers insights into life away from The Beatles very public arena. What writings were strictly Paul’s contributions, and how were they different from the songs penned by John? What about their collaborative efforts? What was happening in their personal lives – and how did this affect their relationship as "The Beatles"?

The last pages have advertisements to purchase other Personality Magazines - Led Zeplin with Robert Plant, Ringo Starr, George Harrison, and Michael Jackson, for example. William Shatner is featured on the back cover. The mini magazine ( 6 1/2 x 10 inches) is in very fine condition without any tears, writings or other damage issues and would be a terrific purchase for a Beatles fan.

Although music was Barry’s heart and soul, there was no promise of a regular salary with a musical career. Yet, the leap to music classes at Juliard was the beginning of a whole new pathway to his future success.

Throughout its 95 pages, there are dozens of black and white photos (and 4 pages of color pics) of Barry in concert, in studios, with other musical artists such as the Beatles. Published by Putnam Press, New York, (ISBN # 0-933328-65-6) the soft cover book is in fine condition with only some expected wear and slight curling to the cover. There is also browning of the pages without any rips, tears, or markings.

The World War I love song music sheet Somewhere – Somewhere in France measures 10 1/2 x 14 inches. The entire framed size is 20 1/4 x 17 inches and features a photo inset of Renee Close, a songstress who performed and became identified with the music.

Words for this song were written by William Vaughan Dunham, with musical score by Shelton Brooks. Leo Rossiter of Chicago was the 1917 publisher of the music and this information is printed on the cover.

The illustration depicts a distraught young lady seated at a table with designs of lilies/fleur-de-lis surrounding her, which is the French flower symbol, and appropriate for the Somewhere in France title. She cries for her love, a soldier serving his country, Somewhere in France.

At the top of the sheet is printed: Dedicated to Mrs. Mary Borden-Turner,USA, and below that in pencil are two signatures. The first is S. Russell Froenke, dated 1/18/18, and the second is R. Harold Froenke. How these individuals are linked to the musical sheet, we do not know.

The graphics are marvelous on this musical cover which is without rips or tears, just age-related browning associated with its 90+ years, and water marks on the backside – at bottom, left and right. A display worthy framed music cover with top and bottom pre-drilled holes makes this collectable ready for a unique display.  What a terrific display item this is – the original 10 1/2 x 13 1/2 inch music sheet cover for the World War I song, I Don’t Want To Get Well (I’m In Love With A Beautiful Nurse) has been matted, glass covered and hardwood framed. Total framed size measures 16 3/4 x 20 inches and has two pre-drilled holes, at center top and bottom, for mounting to the wall.

The words for this song were written by Harry Pease and Howard Johnson with the music by Harry Jentens. Leo Feist, Inc. of New York is the publisher of the sheet music and all this information appears on the vintage/antique music cover, which is without any rips or tears. We do note that there are water marks present on the backside of the framed print, on the left.

The artwork on this framed memorabilia is wonderful – with the soldier patient in bed, being attended by that beautiful nurse. In the background is a small inset drawing of exploding bombs surrounding two soldiers and a Red Cross emergency vehicle.

If you have ever thought about framing vintage sheet music, here is a ready made opportunity to own a collectable, display worthy and ready for hanging, piece of musical history.  Group of Misc. Small wear on edges and corners. Small chipping. 6 pages  Finale has taken another evolutionary step with release of version 3.0. Some of the features found in the new version are a somewhat friendlier interface, twenty-eight additional ready-to-use templates (for example, jazz band, woodwind quintet, full orchestra), more one-step functions, ability to open multiple documents at one time, resizable floating palettes, and partial measure selection.

The friendly graphic interface of the Macintosh that launched the revolution called desktop publishing just a few short years ago held great promise for a publishable-quality music notation, but few realized how tremendously complicated music notation really is. It is not simply word processing for music, as a few naive computer programmers suggested at the time. Finale was in fact the first program in which one could notate almost anything. The trouble is, or was, the dissonance between the Macintosh interface and the way the unwieldy Finale interface finally developed. At the heart of the concept of the Macintosh interface was the rejection of the DOS concept of "modality," i.e., the idea that the same actions have different functions depending on the current mode. Thankfully, microcomputers have now freed us from the days of alt-control-shift F-keys, and replaced those actions, when possible, with pull-down menus. Unfortunately, some software, like that which has evolved for drawing, desktop publishing, and, yes, music notation, is simply too complex to function entirely in a non-modal environment.

Also eliminated in Finale 3.0 is one of the least favorite dialog boxes in Finale, a minor but most egregious offense to the Macintosh interface: the "Change this measure only, this measure through measure _____, or this measure to the end" dialog box. Leaving aside the incorrect use of click box buttons, the lack of a "cancel" button, and the fact that typing a measure number would not automatically select that option, it was a perfect example of the lengths Coda was forced to go to once they had abandoned the Edit menu model for selection and scope.

Some readers may question the emphasis here on user interface, but the interface is the key to having a user know why something happened as the result of an action, and to having their expectations met. Also, even if Coda agrees about some of these issues (and that is possible), it is understandable why they might not want to make overhauls in the user interface at this stage. The art of software updates is to balance the needs of new functions and their consistency with the danger of alienating current customers who have already spent a great deal of effort mastering the old interface. It is a tough line to walk for a corporation, but if the change truly does make things easier to understand, the large majority of current customers will appreciate it, and it could make the product more competitive with up-and-coming music notation software packages.

At this point, the reader may wonder if there are positive aspects to Finale 3.0. Indeed there must be for all the hours and years many users have invested in it. At the time Finale first became available in 1988, it was the only music notation software package that could produce the kinds of notational symbols and page formatting most users needed, and it is still an excellent product. Despite the interface and despite the rumors about the Mount Everest learning curve, many musicians are able, mostly through sheer memorization, to begin to notate their music fairly quickly in Finale. Even though using Finale is still often slower than writing a manuscript by hand, there is room for absolutely no doubt, as the score and parts emerge from the laser printer, that the final result is attractive, wonderfully easy to read, and easily worth the time invested

This is such a marvelous book for anyone who was, and is, a Phantom of the Opera aficionado. Throughout the 167 page book, George Perry, a well-respected London film critic and author, first introduces us to the real Paris Opera House, documenting secret areas with heretofore unpublished documents. Early film treatment, including Lon Chaney’s 1925 memorable performance of the Phantom is discussed and shown in pictures.

He follows Andrew Lloyd Weber’s journey from reading the classic French novel written by Gaston Leroux to creating the magnificent theater experience that came to be the Phantom. Interviews with Hal Prince, the director of the Broadway production, and its original stars, Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman, give the reader insights into the collaborative effort required for the theatrical undertaking.

The book, 8 1/4 x 11 3/4 inches is in excellent condition with just slight wear to the edging on the front cover, but no tears or markings on its pages. The ISBN number is 0-8050-1722-4.

This is a terrific pairing of Jake and Elwood Blues, depicted by John Belushi and Dan Akroyd, in Special Edition 9 inch poseable figures made exclusively for Target in 1997.

If you are a fan of Saturday Night Live and the Blues Brothers performers, this is an opportunity to own never played with figures captured in their original boxes.

Jake is numbered 654 out of 20,250 figures produced and his accessories include microphone with stand, handcuffs, and a display stand. Elwood is numbered 647 out of 20,250 and his accessories are a harmonica in addition to the microphone with stand, and a display stand.

The back cover has a flap attached to it with Velcro. When opened, there is a description of the storyline from the Blues Brothers movie that was made in 1980, directed by John Landis, and has become a blues and soul revival classic. We do note some minor wear and scuffing to the boxes with light scratches and crinkling on the front clear plastic viewing area and aging of the tape that secures the cap ends of the box. Elwood and Jake, wearing their familiar black hats and dark shades, equal a pair of marvelous collectible figures.  This six page sheet music booklet is for the pianoforte or piano solo. From the pink, gray, white and red sketch on its cover to the pages free from any rips, or tears, this 1928 copyright Dance of the Rosebuds by Frederick Keats is in remarkably fine condition.

One page has red ink marks on some of the notes and a small area circled in red pencil, and this does show in our pictures. The Theodore Presser Company of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania is the publisher of this for piano sheet music.  The Art Publication Society first published this Arthur Edward Johnstone Serenade in 1930. This printing was redone in 1958 and contains both a sketch and biographical information on the artist, Franz Schubert as well as instructive information on form, structure, and interpretation of the music.

This is catalogue No. 457, printed in St. Louis Missouri and in excellent condition for its 50+ years. There are a few red ink marks on some of the notes and we do note off white page coloring. There are no rips, tears within the booklet and just some slight edge wear at the four corners.  This Visual Documentary put out by Putnam Books New York in 1980 presents a chronology of Pink Floyd's career.

The book begins with the band's inception in the mid 1960's through the release of their album The Wall. The Wall was released in November of 1979, and the book covers some of their tour highlights from 1980.

Book features individual profiles of each of the band's members, lists significant dates in their career broken down by year, along with a comprehensive list of the album releases and covers, including releases of band members' solo albums. See their story come to life in photographs, both black and white and full-color, many of which were never published prior to this book by an author who only goes by the name of Miles.

In overall good condition for the age. Some creases are present on the covers but no ripped pages or writing within the book.
