R.H.PALENSKE Dry Etching Print-Battle For Leadership-HORSES

R. H. PALENSKE - Drypoint Vintage Lithograph -Wild Horses Fighting. Here is a fabulous vintage picture that was created and SIGNED by the artist: R.H. PALENSKE. Print is TITLED: BATTLE FOR LEADERSHIP.

His illustrations are created in a black and white simple coloring. I believe they call these Dry Point Lithographs or Talio-Crome. Makes it even more realistic in the classic pictures he produces with animals, man, and situations in nature. This should appeal to the avid nature collector. Dates approx. the 1930s-1940s. The lithograph is a nice large size, slight age toning of paper. Nice quality heavier paper stock.

With outer bordering measures 16 x 15-1/2. The image only with the title at the bottom measures: 10-1/4 x 12.

Great portrait of these fabulous horses that are truly powerful . Greatl illustration of two of these animals on their hind legs lashing out at each other for male domenance. In the background are the rest of the herd waiting to what will happen.

Is pen SIGNED in lower right bottom edge "R. H. Palenske" and pen TITLED at lower left "BATTLE FOR LEADERSHIP". Print has been securely stored flat all these years, has never been matted nor framed. WONDERFUL CONDITION. No foxing, No stains. There are some very precise *cuts* in the print, as shown in our photos for you. They are clean even, and once framed up would not be noticible. (One by smaller group of horses at the base of their legs, a larger one going through the artists signature, and another one on lower left corner that is in border and could be trimmed away.

Reinhold H. Palenske 1884-1954. American artist Reinhold H. Palenske was born in Chicago and lived in Woodstock IL. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago with W. Reynolds. He was a member of the Chicago Society of Etchers and illustrated for "The Spur", "The Washington Star" and the Chicago Daily News. His work was exhibited at the Chicago Society of Etchers, The Smithsonian Institution (solo exhibit) and the Library of Congress. His work is held at the Library of Congress, New York Public Library, Royal Gallery London and Fort Worth Art Museum.

We also will be listing MANY more PALENSKE prints, so be watching! Please make sure to view the other huge collection of vintage antique framed prints we have obtained.

This book containing the life and works of artist MichelAngelo (1475-1564) in Rome by Nils Martellucci is the second edition published by Bonechi, Florence, Italy in February 1967.

Michelangelo is certainly the most representative artist of the XVI century: a sculptor, painter, architect, and poet. He lived to a great age, and enjoyed great fame in his lifetime.

On the opening page translated by Timothy Paterson it begins: This publication does not propose to present in such limited space, given the complexity of the theme, a complete picture of the life and work of the Master.

Still, it does have a distinct design, however modest: to convey in a clear and simple manner a better understanding of Michelangelo as a man and as an artist. To this end we must view him as an integral part of the troubled world at the middle of the century: a Cinquecento which was stupendous, glorious, and corrupt, rich with saintly and ribald personages, popes, princes, soldiers, merchants and common people.

In these few thin pages he is always present as a man who, as Ariosto says: lived all his life alone and wild. In order to understand and therefore the better to love our Michelangelo, whether as a man or the supreme artist, we cannot prescind from the various and conflicting events of the two centres in which he lived, worked and suffered: the beautiful and never forgotten fatherland of Florence and the stupendous, beloved Rome.

The book itself is 63 pages with 38 pages full of photographs that include:

The Tomb of Julius II / Statues of Rachel and Lea The Pieta and the The Sistine Chapel.

In very good but used condition, the front cover does have a glue mark where someone took off the price label as I have shown in my pictures and it measures 9 3/4 inches by 8 inches. \Truly a learning experience of an artist that left his work for us to enjoy for centuries to come. \An addition to any Art History Collection.

SH & Ins will be quoted after orders placed. If you have any questions please contact me and thank you for looking.

National Geographic Society Caspain Sea Map. This map is 20" wide x 31" long. From the opening paragraph, "Though called a sea, the landlocked Caspian is geologically the largest lake on Earth, covering more than four times the surface area of its closest rival. North America's Lake Superior. Once the exclusive domain of Iran and the U.S.S.R,, the Caspian now figures prominently in the aspirations of three new coastal states: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan. Notorious mvironmcntal negligence and long-suppressed ethnic conflicts - the toxic fallout of decades of communist rule - challenge the former Soviet republics as they struggle to build viable economies and stable governments." This item dates to 1998, is printed on two sides and it is in excellent condition.

National Geographic Society A Traveler's Map of Spain and Portugal Map. This map is 20" wide x 31" long. From the opening paragraph, "Travelers to the Iberian Peninsula n the Middle Ages arrived by the grace of God and on foot, devout pilgrims trekking through the Pyrenees to reach religious shrines. By the early 1500s the empires of Spain and Portugal were enjoying a golden age of discovery, sailing the world and returning with cultural seeds from Africa, Asia, and the Americas to plant in homelands already enriched by the legacies of Celts, Muslims, and Jews. But incessant wars and religious repression eventually weakened the region. Modernization lagged, and in the 1930s dictatorships arose. Today the now democratic countries welcome 60 million visitors a year to the glow of Gothic cathedrals, the snap of Spanish flamenco, and miles and miles of beaches." National Geographic Society The Making of Canada, Ontario Map. This map is 20" wide x 31" long. From the opening paragraph, "Take water - thundering falls, huge lakes and bays, rushing streams, canopies of snow. Mix with some of the oldest rocks on the planet. Lace with minerals - gold, silver, platinum. Fold in a strip of fertile soil 500 miles long. Top with conifers - spruce, pine, cedar and maples so abundant that their leaf became the symbol of a nation. Place in the center of a continent with access by river to the sea. Result: Ontario. Second largest province in the world's second largest country, Ontario is Canada's richest, most populous, and most urban province. Embracing an area greater than France and Spain combined, Ontario alone contributes 40 percent of the gross national product through services and goods: forest products and minerals from the north, automobiles and agriculture from the south. The province rivals Japan in exports to the United States." This item dates to 1997 and other than some soiling on the top left, it is in excellent condition.

National Geographic Society The Making of Canada, The North Map. This map is 20" wide x 31" long. From the opening paragraph, "Starting with that Elizabethan sea dog Sir Martin Frobisher, who thought he had found gold on Baffin Island in 1576, the top of North America has been seen as either a rich storehouse of minerals and furs or a barrier to the Orient. But to the native peoples it is simply home. A Dene man from the Mackenzie Valley put it this way: "The land is just like our blood because we live off the animals that feed off the land." While native peoples had unwritten maps and place-names and estabished hunting territories, outsiders saw a vast, empty frontier and set about naming every inlet and bay after patrons or places back home. What we now call the Northwest and Yukon Territories encompass 1.5 million square miles, or 39 percent of Canada - a region almost six times the size of Texas. Yet even today its popula tion is only 100,000, or about one person for every 15 square miles." This item dates to 1997 and it is in excellent condition.

National Geographic Society Great Peoples of the Past, Mesoamericans Map. This map is 20" wide x 31" long. From the opening paragraph, "About 1200 B.C., when the Trojan Var was being fought half a world away, an agrarian people raising maize, beans, and squash began to build the first of many independent city-states in Mesoamerica. From this matrix of cultures came a calendar to measure time, glyphs to chronicle the lives of rulers, tables zhartine the movement of planets, and architecture to rival that of the Old World. Europeans arrived in 1519, and within a historical eye blink Mesoamerica's great cities and ceremonial centers were left in ruins as Spaniards scoured the land for gold. Native peoples were enslaved and Christianized, and the Aztec Empire, the last great indigenous civilization. dissolved. Powerless and poor through eras of colonization, dictatorship, and revolution, survivors have salvaged languages, folkways, and an unshakable vision of self-determination." This item dates to 1997 and it is in excellent condition.

National Geographic Society Great Peoples of the Past, The Mongols Map. This map is 20" wide x 31" long. From the opening paragraph, "Obscure tribes of illiterate nomads, the Mongols were the last of a long line of invaders from the steppes north of China. So apocalyptic was the Mongol climax to this warlike tradition that even Attila and the Huns paled in comparison. While the Mongol khans and their generals were drawing and quartering half of Asia, Europe quaked - but escaped subjugation with the loss I only a few armies. China remained under the Mongol yoke, in whole or in part, for more than a century, Russia for more than two. Accounts of the barbarity of the Mongols are staggering: Untold millions died by their hands. The world would not again see such wholesale massacres until the technological wars of the 20th century When the relentless advance of Mongol conquest eventually eased, a new opportunity emerged: United under Mongol despotism, Eurasia was suddenly open as never before to commerce and the exchange of ideas." National Geographic Society Millennium in Maps, Physical Earth Map. This map is 20" wide x 31" long. From the opening paragraph, "Geologists entered the 20th century beset by mysteries: enigmatic patterns of earthquakes and volcanoes, continents shaped like puzzle pieces, and beds of the same fossils on opposite sides of oceans. By the mid-1960s enough evidence had been collected for most to accept a revolutionary answer for a multitude of questions - geology's grand theory of plate tectonics. Using this theory, earth scientists explain churning in Earth's inner layers, prehistoric climates, drifting continents, and spreading seas. As before their work is grounded in the physical makeup of the planet. But new technologies allow them to drill ever deeper into icecap and seafloors, gathering data about the distant past." This item dates to 1998 and it is in excellent condition.

National Geographic Society Millennium in Maps, Exploration Map. This map is 20" wide x 31" long. From the opening paragraph, "Born explorers, humans have been crossing frontiers since prehistoric times. The results of such traveling became widely useful to others when they were written in journals and drawn as maps. Those records established the boundaries of the known world - however imperfectly known - and then extended them. For Europeans from the 15th century on, a pattern unfolded: first the discovery of new worlds, then exploraion to fill in the great voids of continents and seas. In modern times the questing spirit has gone beyond the bounds of Earth's surface as astronomy, aeronautics, bathymetry, and other sciences md technologies chart new frontiers of knowledge." This item dates to 1998 and it is in excellent condition.

National Geographic Society Millennium in Maps, Cultures Map. This map is 20" wide x 31" long. From the opening paragraph, "No culture is static. Ideas, technologies, products, and people move from one place to another. When cultures come into contact through migration, trade, or the latest telecommunications devices, they influence each other. Sometimes cultures cross-pollinate, exchanging foods, music, sports. At other times, say critics of globalization, a culture swamps another ike an invasive, fast-reproducing weed. Cultures have evolved in response to contact for thousands of years. But the pace has changed. In the past the influences of distant cultures came slowly, delayed by long journeys. Today, because of the telephone, the television, the Internet, telecommunications satellites, world trade, and long-distance travel, cultural influences can spread across the planet as fast as the click of a mouse." This item dates to 1999 and it is in excellent condition.

National Geographic Society Millennium in Maps, Population Map. This map is 20" wide x 31" long. From the opening paragraph, "As the 21st century approaches, the news on global population is mixed. The fear from decades past, that an exploding population would quickly outstrip Earth's capacity to support falling birthrates have slowed population growth and there's a good chance that the world's population all level off in the next century. But that will be with several billion population .9 billion and growing by nore than 80 million a year has almost doubled since 1960. Catasrophe may or may not arrive, says population expert Joel E. Cohen, but one thing is certain: "What we get as we increase our population are increasingly difficult choices." The envivironmental and economic trade-offs we already face are sure to intensify." This item dates to 1998 and it is in excellent condition.

National Geographic Society Australia Under Siege Map. This map is 20" wide x 31" long. From the opening paragraph, "Seen in light of the violent, earth-shattering events that have punctuated other regions throughout time, Australia can seem like a pretty sedate place. In the 50 million years since Australia separated from Antarctica and drifted north, few volcanoes have erupted, few glaciers lave grown, and only low mountains lave risen. Despite its geologic quiet Australia is a biological horn of plenty one of the world's 17 megadiversity countries, according to Conservation International. This endowment, though, is threatened, largely due to Europeans who began arriving in the 18th century. Transforming an alien landscape to be like home, they upset the ecological equilibrium, and the consequences still reverberate today." This item dates to 200 and it is in excellent condition.

National Geographic Society Dawn of Humans Map. This map is 20" wide x 31" long. From the opening paragraph, "Climate change alters vegetation and shifts shorelines. As our ancestors spread across Africa, Asia, and Europe, they learned to exploit the opportunities and survive the challenges they found in dynamic environments.
