Following four and a half years in the German concentration camps such as Janowska, Plaszow, and Mauthausen during World War II, Wiesenthal dedicated most of his life to tracking down and gathering information on fugitive Nazis so that they could be brought to justice for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Wiesenthal wrote The Sunflower, which describes a life-changing event he experienced when he was in the camp.

Maria Theresa (German: Maria Theresia 1717 – 1780) was a reigning Archduchess of Austria, a Queen of Hungary and Bohemia, and a Holy Roman Empress.

Opposition to her acceding to the throne led to the War of the Austrian Succession in 1740. After Emperor Charles VII, who claimed the throne, died in 1745, Maria Theresa obtained the imperial crown for her husband, Francis I. Though she was technically empress consort, Maria Theresa was the de facto ruler of the nation, and she began styling herself Holy Roman Empress in 1745. Maria Theresa had in fact already begun her rule in 1740 during the Austrian War of Succession.

Maria Theresia brought unity to the Habsburg Monarchy and was considered one of its most capable rulers. Her 16 children also included Marie Antoinette, Queen consort of France, and Leopold II, Holy Roman Emperor.  Authentic, antique, lithographed map from 1902: " Verbreitung der Juden im Deutschen Reich „ ( Diffusion of Jews in the German Empire ).

Printed by Bibliographisches Institut Leipzig in 1902 reflecting the status of 1900.  Austrian WWII Chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss with Family: b/w vintage Postcard, unused, fine condition.

Engelbert Dollfuß (1892 –1934) was an Austrian Christian Social and Patriotic Front statesman, who was chancellor of Austria from 1932 and right-wing dictator of Austria from 1933 until his assassination by Nazi agents in 1934.

Dollfuss became Chancellor on May 20, 1932 and was assassinated in July 25, 1934 by ten Austrian Nazis of SS Regiment 89 who entered the Chancellery building and shot him in an attempted coup d'état, the July Putsch.

It was only thanks to the Heimwehr which attacked the forming units of Nazi agents that the coup did not succeed. Another reason for the failure of the putsch was Italian intervention. Mussolini assembled the Italian army on the Austrian border and threatened Hitler with a war with Italy in the event of a German invasion of Austria as originally planned by Mussolini. The assassination of Dollfuss was accompanied by Italian uprisings in many regions in Italy, resulting in further deaths. In Carinthia a large contingent of northern German Nazis tried to grab power but were subdued by the Italian units near by. Similarly, the Nazi assassins in Vienna surrendered and were executed. Kurt Schuschnigg became the new chancellor of Austria.

Kurt Josef Waldheim (1918 –2007) was an Austrian diplomat and politician. Waldheim was Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1972 to 1981, and President of Austria from 1986 to 1992. While running for President in Austria in 1985, his service as a Wehrmacht intelligence officer during World War II raised international controversy. Waldheim joined the Austrian diplomatic service in 1945. In 1956 he was made Ambassador to Canada, returning to the Ministry in 1960, after which he became the Permanent Representative of Austria to the United Nations in 1964. For two years beginning in 1968, he was the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs in Austria serving for the Austrian People's Party, before going back as Permanent Representative to the U.N. in 1970. Shortly afterwards, he ran and was defeated in the 1971 Austrian presidential elections.

After being defeated in his home country's presidential election, he was elected to succeed U Thant as United Nations Secretary-General the same year. As Secretary-General, Waldheim opened and addressed a number of major international conferences convened under United Nations auspices.

The Mizrachi (Hebrew: , HaMizrahi, acronym for Merkaz Ruhani or "religious centre") is the name of the religious Zionist organization founded in 1902 in Vilnius at a world conference of religious Zionists called by Rabbi Yitzchak Yaacov Reines. Bnei Akiva, which was founded in 1929, is the youth movement associated with Mizrachi. Both Mizrachi and the Bnai Akiva youth movement became international movements to be found wherever organized and free Jewish communities existed and function until the present.

Mizrachi believes that the Torah should be at the centre of Zionism and also sees Jewish nationalism as a tool for achieving religious objectives. The Mizrahi Party was the first official religious Zionist party and founded the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Israel and pushed for laws enforcing kashrut and the observance of the sabbath in the workplace. It also played a role prior to the creation of the state of Israel, building a network of religious schools that exist to this day, and took part in the 1951 elections.
