This terrific 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch black and white photograph of one of the world’s largest surviving stone temple sites at Angkor Wat, Cambodia was purchased at an estate sale along with the one marked with the Agfa Brovira photo paper. Although this one is unmarked, we believe it is from the same 50’s or so time frame.

Seen from the west entrance, with the imposing individual temples in the background and the sandstone entrance in the forefront, Angkor Wat is recognized for its stunning early 12th century architecture and multiple Bas-Relief sculptures of gods, kings, warriors, and female guardians.

There is slight yellowing/browning to the backside, and a small #3 on the top right side, but otherwise, this black and white photograph is in very fine vintage condition.

The 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch postcard is in very fine vintage condition with only some expected browning appropriate for its almost sixty years of age.

Those 50’s and earlier autos are shown both driving along and parked curbside (note the absence of parking meters).

There is browning of the message side, but there are no rips, tears or creases on this neat color postcard.

Site of Chepstow Castle, the oldest brick fortification built in 1067 the year of the Norman Conquest.

The vintage photograph has a marvelous view of the Wye River and the surrounding countryside described by the postcard writer as having hills that rise beautifully, absolutely verdant with trees on each side of the river along a picturesque valley. Quite a description and gorgeous scene.

The cancelled stamp impression can be detected on the front and the postcard has one small area at the middle top portion that is creased/wrinkled along with expected light edge wear and age-related browning on the message side. Over-all the vintage postcard, with the 2 cent postage revenue stamp of the recently crowned Queen Elizabeth, is in very good vintage condition.

Complete with a late 30’s model auto parked out in front, this 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch used postcard pictures the former U.S. Post Office building in Mahanoy City, Pa.

Postmarked 1940, the postcard was written in pencil possibly from a granddaughter to her grandparents. Part of the print has deteriorated with age, but the readable portion says the child was sick and was told by the doctor that while she was in Mahanoy City, she shouldn’t drink the water, and instead, only have ginger ale.

The 70+ post card is in very fine condition without any tears, rips, or creases, just some browning occurring with age, and an impression from the writing on the picture side from the youngster pressing so hard as she wrote her message.

The message side names L.F. Walk of New Albany as the publisher of this old-time postal card. We were not able to discover what type of business or government office was housed in this building, but we are optimistic that someone in the great internet has the background on this New Albany structure. Notice too, the vintage 40’s cars and the Texaco sign.

The post card does have some age-related browning, but over-all is in very fine condition without any rips, tears, creases or writings.

This black and white postcard from the 1940’s showcases the Floyd County Court House in New Albany, Indiana.

Construction on that building began in 1865 and was completed two years later. This unused regular sized postal card is brown with age but has no rips, tears or creases, and is a marvelous memento of days gone by in New Albany.

The storm lashed shallows of Diamond Shoals where many seamen lost lives is part of this area’s history.

Only slight edge wear and some browning appropriate for its 1966 age are noted on the regular sized post card, but no rips, tears or creases.

This 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch card is postmarked 1966, photography by P. Bayne and is in very fine condition with the note that there is some age-related browning on the message side, and the impression from the force of the pen shows slightly on the front side.

The photo’s image is of the Bas-Relief or stone carving of warriors in battle, with spears and shields, and one atop a horse.

Although undated, we believe that this 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch photo may date back as early as the 1950’s because of the Agfa Brovira photo paper name which is stamped on the backside. This particular logo was used before and during World War II and perhaps into the sixties. There is some corner edge wear and browning to the blank side, but otherwise in fine vintage condition.

Angkor Wat is the oldest surviving stone architecture of its kind from the early 12th century. Built by the Khmers to honor Vishnu, their Hindu god, these structures were a testament to man’s ingenuity and intelligence.

Although undated, we believe that this photograph may date back to the 50’s/60’s. This photo, was purchased along with many others featuring Angkor Wat, with one having been stamped with the Agfa Brovira photo paper stamp that indicates a mid-century time frame. In fine vintage condition with some browning appropriate for its vintage age, and the #8 written in ink on the backside.

This is a marvelous vintage photograph postcard taken at the sandstone entrance to Angkor Wat in Cambodia, the largest stone temple architecture existing from the early 12th century. Built by the Khmer over a thirty year period, it was originally a Hindu temple complex, and honored the god, Vishnu.

The couple in the foreground is performing a traditional Cambodian folk dance. Note the embellished clothing they are wearing, topped off by those unique headpieces. Although undated, we believe that this photo dates back to late 70’s/early 80’s time period. We bought many international postcards and photos from the estate of a female professor who traveled widely through Southeast Asia during that time period. We do note browning/yellowing on the reverse side of photo, and a slight curling along top and bottom edges.

It tells the story of a young man’s development into a warrior and can be accompanied by a gamelan orchestra which may include bamboo flutes (as seen on the left hand side of picture).

Elaborate costume including headpieces are worn by the dancer and expressive face, hands as well as the feet movements combine to tell the story of the dance. The unused message side has the printed word, Kartupos, and stamped in black at the top left is The baris dance. The photo card is in very fine condition with some yellowing appropriate for its vintage age.

The Legong dance is a classic Balinese dance for young women and can be performed by a sole dancer or an ensemble. Expressive hands, face, feet, all interact to tell the story of divine nymphs.

The postcard is in very fine condition with only some slight yellowing of the unused message side which has the word Kartupos although it has faded with age. Stamped in black ink on the top left side is The Legong Dance. In addition, above the unused stamp area, someone had written the #23.

The 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch used postal card was published by Valentine & Sons of Dundee & London and postmarked 1956. The floodlit photograph shows the temporary grandstand seating erected for this spectacular event with band members in the center and the grand Edinburgh Castle in the background. There is some yellowing/browning of the message area, and the cancelled stamp impression can be detected on the front.
