Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. This volume takes you on a visual journey through hundreds of never before published carte de viste photographs accompanied by authoritative text. This book is a unique record of magnified black and white images showcasing what "real" people wore in this hugely popular time period. Whether you are a costume designer or historian looking for inspiration or simply a fan wishing to gaze upon the beautiful clothing details, this spectacular book has it all The Way They Were: Dressed In 1860-1865, volume 2 is the definitive study of clothing details and accessories for women, children and men who lived in 1860-1865 America.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. One of the most intriguing and little studied forms of nineteenth-century photography is the tintype. Introduced in 1856 as a low-cost alternative to the daguerreotype and the albumen print, the tintype was widely marketed from the 1860s through the first decades of the twentieth century as the most popular photographic medium. The picture-making preference of the people, it was almost never used for celebrity portraiture: It was affordable, portable, unique and available almost everywhere. Because of its ubiquity, the tintype provides a startlingly candid record of the political upheavals that rocked the four decades following the American Civil War-and the personal anxieties they induced. As this book's author, Steven Kasher, argues, the tintype studio became a kind of performance space in which sitters could act out their personal identities. Sitters brought to the tintype studio not just their family and friends but also the tools of their trade, costumes, toys, stuffed animals and other such props. Often they would enact stereotypes and fantasies that reflected or challenged conventional gender, race and class roles. Surprisingly, the tintype was almost exclusively an American phenomenon, rarely used in other countries, and this book demonstrates how this modest form of photography provides extraordinary insight into the development of national attitudes and characteristics in the formative years of the early Modern era. Featured in this book are more than 200 remarkable examples of tintypes, mostly drawn from the Permanent Collection of the International Center of Photography in New York.  This is a set of 4 Vintage technical radio magazines: titles include:

VINTAGE TOY DIANA TYPE ZODIAC ART CAMERA

This vintage, ca 1952-56, collectible Argus 35mm camera with Bakelite plastic and metal castings construction that truly represents the classic look of the 1950s. This 35mm camera features side holes for a flash attachment, a coupling gear between the lens and the range finder dial, a simple diaphragm shutter that lets the camera make use of interchangeable lenses, it has different windows for viewfinder and range finder. With the quiet leaf shutter, this camera opens and closes the shutter to expose a photograph. Condition: comes with original leather case that is in mint condition; camera is very clean and in apparently working order, no scratches to case of lens, has some discoloration to metal dial around lens (see close-up images) otherwise camera is in very clean little used condition.

This Argus camera was the best-selling 35mm camera in the world for nearly three decades, and helped popularize the 35mm format. Due to its shape, size, and weight, it is commonly referred to as The Brick by photographers. The Argus C3 held a reputation for rugged durability and managed to outlast most of its American competition as well as fend off precision German-built cameras and the cheap high quality Japanese cameras that began to enter the American market in the 1950s. But eventually the design simply became too outdated and clumsy and production ended in 1966. A later variant of the C3, the Matchmatic model, has recently become popular among Harry Potter collectors, as the character Colin Creevey used it in the film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Features include:

Lens: Argus Coated Cintar 50mm 1:3.5

Shutter: leaf shutter

Shutter speed range: Bulb, 1/10-1/300

Focus areas: 3 ft. to infinity

Focus modes: range finder is coupled to distance control

This is a vintage Taron VL f1.8 ('5'-L) 35 mm rangefinder camera with a built-in uncoupled selenium meter. This camera comes with a Taronar F.C. 45mm/f1.8 lens, the original leather carry case, and a set of Taron filters also with leather case. Condition: appears to be in very good, clean condition, no scratches to camera body or lens, interior is very clean, camera does work.
