Table of Contents: - Includes 1996-1997 laid in price guide.  This is the most current price guide for this book.Silhouette pictures as defined in this book are the colored pictures that are painted on the back side of the glass. This is also known as reverse painting on glass. They are usually black, but white, red, blue, rose or a combination of colors is also used. The subjects include children, couples, birds, dogs, horses, etc. Silhouettes have been used to decorate dishes, canisters, lamps, and many other items. The backgrounds were usually paper or foil; sometimes textured, tinted or with scenic depictions. The backing behind this background is usually grey or black cardboard. The hangers are sometimes attached directly to the glass; some may be a metal hanger that is attached to the back of the cardboard; some have a cut in the cardboard (meant to be folded out), with a hole for hanging. Silhouettes were sold in variety stores, dime stores, novelty stores, or given as promotional gifts from the 1920's through the early 1950's.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Around it grew a considerable industry supplying everything from simple leather covered cases, to sophisticated creations in moulded thermoplastic. This book looks at the photographic portrait from daguerrotype to carte de visite, and at the range of cases in which it was marketed. The cased Victorian photographic portrait was a sophisticated product, with the delicate hand-colouring of the image echoed in the colours of the protective velvet pad and trim with which the case was finished. Hitherto, the relationship between the portrait and its packaging and presentation has not been explored in book form. Case Histories also highlights British manufacturers of cases and trims, and identifies the only British manufacturer yet found who made moulded thermoplastic cases. Such was the importance of the cased photographic portrait, that moulded picture cases were one of the worlds first uses for moulded plastic. A history of the packaging and presentation of the Victorian cased photographic portrait The first book to take a holistic view of the cased portraiture market Looks at the structure of the case and its evolution Explores the range of material used in case manufacture, the manufacturing techniques employed and the emergence of moulding technology  This is a Kodak Duaflex Flashholder in very good shape. This very historic and highly collectible vintage SONY 6 TRANSISTOR MODEL TR-63 POCKET RADIO, ca. 1957, was, at that time, considered the world's smallest radio and Sony's first export model. This little radio changed the electronics world forever and was the first radio to utilize all miniature components. It was also the radio that allowed Sony to coin the word Pocketable or Pocket Radio. It features a pastel yellow plastic case, a dial tuning mechanism and a punched aluminum speaker grill.

Another interesting feature of radios of this era, were the small CD (Civil Defense) marks (triangles or circles)located between the 6-7 and the 12-16 on the tuning dials. These CD marks appeared on all radios made or sold in US from 1953-63 and indicated where the listener should tune to get information should Russia launch a nuclear attack on the US (also known as the Red Scare).

CONDITION: there are no cracks or chips to the plastic body, the aluminum grill is perfect with no dents, dial lettering is in very good condition, however, the red area of the dial has one v-shaped chip and another very small crack (see images). Radio does work, but I can only get static and could not tune into a station.  This has been in my private collection for over 20 years. It is a lovely antique photo print of Edmund Lowe in a free standing art deco wood and plaster frame. Print is about 8" by 10" and this dates to the mid 1920s.

From Wikipedia:

Edmund Lowe's career included over 100 films in which he starred as the leading man. He is best remembered for his role as Sergeant Quirt in the 1926 movie, What Price Glory. Making a smooth transition to talking pictures he remained popular but by the mid 30's he was no longer a major star. He remained a valuable character actor at the major studios while continuing as a leading man for such "Poverty Row" studios as Columbia Pictures where his skills could bolster low budget productions. He also starred in the 1950s television show, Front Page Detective and appeared as the elderly lead villain in the first episode of Maverick in 1957.

Sold as is...frame is very good and would sell for $25-$35 alone in most shops. Print photo has some aging and wear but no tears or holes. Very nice piece! Good vintage condition.  Accura Zoom Duplivar 35mm Camera Accessory. Side of the Box says Variable Magnification for 35mm SLR Cameras. Cosmetically appear to be in very good condition.
