Offered is a very nice carte de visite photograph of a beautiful young woman, ca. 1860/1870s. It has been hand-colored by the photographer/artist in vibrant blue, gold and red. Excellent condition with very light spotting and one bumped corner. Backmarked W.R. Call in Manchester, New Hampshire. Measures about 2.5 by 4 inches. Guaranteed old and original. Please see my other antique and collectible photographs, toys, Americana, advertising, ephemera and more.  This wonderful carte de visite photograph shows St. George's Island in Venice and a large sailing ship. It is marked in pen on the front below the image "St. Georges Venice;" otherwise it is clean and in excellent condition with very nice contrast and tonal range. The reverse has the photographer's Venezia back mark. St. George's island is home to St. George's Anglican Church. Carlo Ponti was a Swiss-born optician and photographer who studied early photography in Paris and moved to Venice around 1852. He was well-known for his tourist views and albums of the area. In addition to being an award winning photographer, he was also an inventor of camera lenses and photographic equipment, and is perhaps most celebrated for his invention of the Megalethoscope. Image is guaranteed old and original. We at Tear Drop Memories have picked a winner!  Giuseppe Mazzini (1805 –1872), the "Soul of Italy," was an Italian patriot, philosopher, Freemason and politician. His efforts helped bring about the modern Italian state in place of the several separate states, many dominated by foreign powers, that existed until the 19th century. He also helped define the modern European movement for popular democracy in a republican state. Together with Giuseppe Garibaldi, Camillo Benso di Cavour, and Victor Emmanuel II, he is considered one of the "patron saints" of the Italian Risorgimento. While still in his teens Mazzini committed himself to the cause of Italian independence and unity. Forced into exile in 1831 for his revolutionary activities, he began to recruit followers and organize uprisings against the rulers of the various Italian states. On February 9, 1849 a Republic was declared in Rome, with Pius IX forced to flee to Gaeta. On February 9 of that year Mazzini reached the city, and was appointed as "triumvir" of the new republic on March 29, becoming soon the true leader of the government and showing good administrative capabilities in social reforms. I am pleased to offer to you this Lot of Seven Black and White Photographs. These photos are apparently of a some national park and of a family vacation, I have no idea as to where, almost looks like the mountain ones may be from one area and the two with the ladies in them from another area. Sort of reminds me of the area on the way to the Grand Canyon. There are two large 9 3/4" by 7 3/4" photos, man looking at view and boy by the stream, one 8 1/2" by 7 1/2" of a man drinking from the stream, 8" by 7 1/2" of man with hat, 6" by 5" of three people on a wall and two woman one 5 1/4" by 5" and 5 3/4" by 5". They are all in fairly good condition, the edges do have some bends and the one with the lady helping the other lady up has a fairly heavy crease across the top. They come from a smoke free home and would be an excellent addition to your collection!  Lovely, antique photo ( in kind of a carte de visite) depicting a boy and a gild at the countryside, being scared by a angry hen which is protecting their chicks. The photo is pre 1900 ( app. 1890+), size: 2,6 x 4 inches, the lower corners are rounded, otherwise clean and fresh.  Victorian Parlor Photo Man unusual Beard CVD, good condition, from the 1800's  Theodor Wachtel ( 1823 -1893 ) was a famous, legendary German tenor Though he mostly sang at the Hamburg Opera House he became famous in New York, Paris and London too. A book about Wachtel and the singing techniques for tenors is a standard work. 2,5 x 4 inches, minor wear, scarce.

This little girl must be taped to the chair! Look at her tiny hands. Pretty impressive how they got her all dressed up, standing still and looking at the camera. Very nice German CDV C.1900. Photographer: Paul Papesch, Chemnitz, Bruckenstrasse 31 (Germany) Size: 2 1/2 x 4 1/4 Condition: Excellent. Hardly any wear at all.  Very nice English Carte De Visite (CDV). Dated in ink on the back Jan 2, 1862. Photographer: J. Groom, Artist, Shrewsbury. Size: 2 1/2 x 4 1/4 Condition: Very good. Just modest wear. Was kept in an album. Terrific early Jack Russell piece.   Not enough of a naval expert to say for sure, but this is a very nice carte de visite of what we believe is a young American officer or Midshipmen. Looks to be from just before or during the Civil War. Photographer imprint on back: W. F. Burrows, Successors to Bundy & Williams, No. 158 Main St., Middletown, CT. Size: Carte de Visite (CDV) 2 1/2" x 4" Condition: Very good. Image is excellent. The only real issue is that the corners have all been trimmed round.  Captivating tiny photograph of a 19th century child's doll. Looks like a cabinet photo, but is tiny. Size 2 1/4" tall x 1 1/2" wide. May have been done for a doll house. Condition is excellent.

Deeply emotional cemetery Carte De Visite By Sir Edwin Henry Landseer sketch from circa 1830. this great dog image is likely an engraving made brother Thomas landseer of Edwin's famous canine, about 1873. Favorite of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and Charles Dickens favorite artist, he exhibited in Paris, The Louvre, The Fine Arts Museums Of San Francisco FAMSF, The Wade Collection and several major private collections from engraving, Landseer was the most famous pet dog artist of the Victorian era. Born in March 7 1802 and studying with Hayden, he attended the Royal Academy in London. Son of Engraver John Landseer, his family was a major factor in his work. His brother Thomas Landseer, also a notable artist heavily promoted his engravings of Sir Edwins dogs establishing forever this artist in popular culture. Animal portraits and sculptures were Landseer passions. His Love for hunting and the hounds and pets of the Scottish Highlands drove him forward. Yearly trips to Scotland became an obsession. Landseer major works like his deer Stag Hunt painting, The Monarch Of the Glen, was only topped in fame by his masterfully designed sculpture, Lions at Nelson Monument in Trafalgar Square. As an early teen he was given a dead Lion from a Bestiary as zoos were called in Victorian times and learned anatomy from hours of dissection and sketching. Trafalgar was his last major work. 1866. His faithful dogs were a favorite theme. Many rescuing drowning victims, children, he identified with. The Landseer Newfoundland became the name associated with his drawings of lifesaving. To Quote The Royal Collection, where many of his best work in the Victoria and Albert Museum; Landseer's choice of subject illustrates the Victorian obsession with the trappings of death, combined with is specialty the anthropomorphic representation of Dogs, with pathos and realism. Years of stress alcohol, depression and drug abuse fueled his mental frailty. He was declared insane in 1872. He died in 1873, buried in St. Paul's Cathedral. Sketched immediately after the capture of Magdala, 13, April 1868. by R. R. Holmes F.S.A, Archaeologist attached to the expedition". Below that it partially states: "To his Friend Stanley..." April 13, 1868 the Emperor of Ethiopia, Emperor Tewodros Theodorus committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with a revolver. This suicide occurred during a battle between his loyal troops and army of Great Britain at Magdala. Henry M. Stanley, of Stanley and Livingston fame, traveled to Ethiopia as a correspondent for the New York Herald and he accompanied the British force that was led by Lt. Sir Robert Napier. Henry Stanley observed the death of emperor Tewodros. Just prior to his lead his men against a fruitless attack on the British who were attempting to capture him and the town of Magdala. The gates of the city fell and Tewodros was seen standing near a haystack. Two British soldiers observed him run behind the haystack and then they heard a shot. They found the emperor prostrate on the ground with the revolver still in his hand. He had shot himself in the mouth, the bullet exiting the back of his head. This is an interesting CDV, circa late 1860-1870's. On the back of the CDV is handwritten in pencil,Theodore of Abyssinia, suicide 4/13/1868 at British Invasion.
