Rare Death remembrance tribute mourning black photograph with gun.

I'm reminded of Moses and late NRA president Charlton Heston saying they would get his gun when they pry it from my cold, dead hands".  Antique 19th century cabinet card photo Post mortem student disection dated 1890.

Medical doctor wannabess learn on human cadaver in school.

Marked on reverse, Dad At College 1890  This cabinet card identifies these ladies as Allie Hancock and Mildred Raymond Davis on the back (handwritten). The photography studio is called Walthall, of Confidence, Iowa.   This is a memorial card made by H.F. Wendell of Leipsic, Ohio. The family is that of James Coombs and Amanda Coombs. This couple was from the Seymour, Iowa area (Wayne County). James is born 27 Mar 1834 and died 1 Feb 1910. Amanda is born 1 Feb 1844 and died 14 mar 1893.

The picture you will see has been lightened so that you can read it. It is actually very black in color with nice gold trim. I also have a copy of a family search I did on James which I will include for you.

Many of the pictures I have on my site seem to stem from this family.

Victorian Medical School Autopsy Gross A

Allie Hancock and Mildred Raymond Davis $7.50

James Coombs and Amanda Coombs Memorial $15.00

This cabinet card is marked as a Taylor Great Western and on the back it is handwritten that this is for Amanda Coombs. This young lady is probably a granddaughter or great granddaughter of Amanda Coombs, who comes from Seymour, Iowa. There are no other indications as to who this child is.   This cabinet card is of an young girl on what I would call a very Victorian era chair. She is adorable with her curls and her necklace. Just plain cute! The photography studio is that of L. Taylor of Pullman, Washington, with no handwritten information as to this young lady's name.  This cabinet card has handwritten on the back that this is Uncle and Auntie. Of course, there is no last name! It was taken by a photographer located at No. 9 Main Street, Galesburg, Illinois and the name looks like A. Trey (however, the first letter of the last name is written so that I'm not really sure what letter of the alphabet it is)  This cabinet card is of a woman with a stern look on her face. There are no handwritten names to identify her. The photography studio is L. Taylor of Pullman, Wash. according to the beautiful back.

Young girl cabinet card related to Amand $5.00

Victorian Child cabinet card $10.00

Uncle and Auntie of near Galesburg, Illi $10.00

Cabinet card of a Woman by L. Taylor of $10.00

This is an interesting hairstyle for a young man, and the handwritten name on the back is that of Orvil McClurg or McClung.

There is no name for the photographer, however, the lower right corner does have an impressed mark. I would describe it as a hand holding an arrow with a small piece of twisted rope at the arm's elbow, with this all situated above a shield that has a crescent shaped moon in the top right and lower left quadrants. The top left and lower right quadrants of the shield have lines. I don't know if this relates at all to Civil War era, or just significant to the photographer.

I suspect this young man to be from southern Iowa based on others from the same estate.  This is a set of two cabinet cards with the names Henry Newland of Eldora, Iowa on the gentleman's and Nancy Newland of Libertyville, Iowa on the lady's.

There are no dates handwritten. The photography studio must be Smith, as that is all it has on the front other than Crystal Finish.

The cover that the gentleman has his left arm on has a scene with cows(perhaps he was a farmer/rancher).

This is an adorable child sitting on an object ( a closer look makes me think it is a highchair) that is draped with beautiful lace. The expression on the childs face is priceless, and the outfit is adorable as well. The boots really stand out against the background. There are no identifying marks/names on the card. I suspect early 1900s and southern Iowa for origination.  This is a group of two cabinet cards, one with a married couple and the other perhaps the best man. The men both seem to be sitting on the same chair. They are both faded some and I suspect they are from the early 1900s. They came with others that I currently have for sale. There are no markings to help with identification.
