This is a vintage circa 1860s tintype photo.

A great image of two girls and a big swing. Looks like a touch of coloring on the cheeks. Comes in a paper decorative frame.

SIZE:

2.50" x 3.50"

CONDITION:

Excellent with no damage--light surface wear and scratches seen under magnification.

Guaranteed old & original.  This is an old vintage circa 1860's tintype photo.

A fantastic image of an ethnic lady wearing many interesting pieces of jewelry.

Three necklaces, 2 that have crosses -- the bar pin has a very large cross hanging from it, earrings and ring on index finger. The jewelry has a real artisan look to it and at least some of them appear to be sterling silver (but I can't say with certainty), it just looks similar to other pieces I have had from that time period.

The lady looks like she is of Mexican heritage or possible native American. You can tell she has darker skin, shiny straight black hair and very weathered hands. You don't normally see that in photos unless they have spent a lot of time in the sun.

Clear, crisp with great contrast. A touch of coloring on her cheeks.

SIZE:

4.25" x 6"

CONDITION:

Very good with light surface wear and scratches that are seen more when looking at angle. They and the spotting diminish greatly when viewed straight on. Super contrast so she will really pop when framed. Uneven edges with some light chipping on extreme edges.

Guaranteed old & original.  This is an antique 1/6 plate tintype of 2 young ladies in a a studio posed before a painted Italianate back drop. The woman standing shows the wasp waist from wearing a corset and a mourning gown of black. The tintype dates to 1870-1880s and has one dent and several other mild lines on the back with a bit of damage to 1 corner.  Pocket Tin Type Photo of Civil War Era Seated Lady in good condition. The front of the case has pulled away from the back but is included. The image is fairly clear for its age. She is surrounded by what appears to be a gold oval. Very nice.

This Tin Type Pocket Photo does show fading but the image still shows through. It is a young adult woman. The front of the case is missing and the oval metal piece that frames the woman has pulled away from the case. The interesting part is the writing on the back which is smudged from moisture and is hard to read. Some of the words that can be read appear to read Wilson, Brown, Major Van **ottuis Mother. Neat research project for someone.  Antique Tin Type Plate Photo of 2 Boys that appear to be brothers. They look as if they are related. Both are wearing little wool suits and boots. The elder boy is sitting. Excellent condition for its age. Great Illinois Advertiser or Undertaker Funeral Director‘s collectible.  Hero of Ft. Sumter, Colonel Robert Anderson tin type. This is a quite small tintype, measures about 1-1/2" tall x 1-3/8" wide. This is a nice Civil War collectible. Ex Richard Green antique post mortem collection.  Antique Tintype death photograph of 19th century father holding a post mortem child.

Ex Richard Green antique post mortem collection.  Classic image of a milkman and his wagon. Wagon sign reads "I. BIEBER. PURE MILK." I don’t know if this is Mr. Bieber or simply one of the milkmen. The Bieber name comes up in internet searches for dairy in New York state.

Size: Approx. 3 1/2" x 5".

Condition is very good with good contrast for a tintype. Very modest bends/creases/scratches. Small area of surface deterioration on man’s pants.

Wonderful glimpse of a very small town street, post-Civil War. Two men smoking cigars in a buggy in front of a store whose sign reads GUNS POWDER SHOT. REVOLVERS … (and something I can’t quite make out). The store on the right is PEOPLES GROCERY. You can see a man standing under the awning. The hand-hewn siding of the grocery store is clearly visible. The street has cobblestones.

Size: just under 5" x 7".

Condition is good. When angled to the light you can see quite a few small scratches, but there are no large noticeable scratches. There are two tiny dings, but nothing in the main image area. There is no crazing of the surface. Overall, it is in good, sound condition.

Tintype – C. 1870-1880 “BIEBER PURE MILK”

Tintype – C. 1870 Buggy, Gun Store, and G

1/6 plate. Wonderful image of a handsome little boy holding either an apple or a ball. He is wearing a great suit. The tintype is in a paper holder that is printed, not embossed. The image contrast is somewhere in between the lighter and darker levels represented here. Condition of the tintype is good with modest wear to the surface. When held at an angle to the light you can see what look like several vertical striations in the surface coating. Very nice piece.

1/6 plate – Lovely young girl holding a large doll. The girl is wearing a terrific dress with a big checked border. Image has very good contrast for a tintype. Condition is good with modest wear to the surface and one slight crease that is not on the main image.

Captivating 1/6 plate of a little boy holding a gold-handled walking stick. The handle is tinted gold. This is a very clear image in fine condition. It is in a half case which is in good condition.

1/6 plate. Nice image of little girl in her fur-trimmed coat. Winter backdrop. Looks like she might have on a ribbon of some kind… over her shoulder. Condition is good. Minimal wear, but some gentle bends plus a corner crease.

1/6 plate. Nice clear image with good contrast. Well lit. Actually not a bad backdrop. Condition is very good. Minimal wear. Was likely in an album.  1/6 plate. Nice image, but just not sure what these two guys are in uniform for. The shirt design reminds me of firemen, but not sure. Could be street car conductors. Nice little details in the fobs and piping. Condition is overall good with modest wear and few modest scratches.   Very unusual subject in a nice 1/6 plate. A troika is a carriage drawn by a team of three horses abreast. Size 2.25" x 3.5". Excellent condition.  1/6th plate. Sharp and clear with good contrast. Very funny. Today, we'd need a donkey safety seat with shoulder harness. Size 2.4" x 3.5". Condition is excellent.

Mr F. E. De Marcus is still dead but his memory lives on with ths antque Victorian memento Oleograph graphic and tin photograph collage. Born June 15 1865 a child of the Civil War era, he died, September 6th 1896. The mount shows great details of a graveyard mourning families visiting monuments, spires, obelisks and iron cemetery gate scenes. The old frame is the perfect way to hghlight this antique treasure image. Made by American Oleograph company Milwaukee Wisconsin.

Lets do the time warp again, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. 1975  This is a small tintype measuring 2"H x 1-1/2"W. The portrait is of a young gentleman. When the frame and the case are added to the photo the measurement becomes 3-1/4"W x 3-5/8"H.

The tintype is black and white but the lips and cheeks have been hand-tinted a pale pink. There is a layer of glass directly over the tintype. The glass over the photo is quite dirty on the inside. That accounts for the many spots that appear in the photo shown. The spots are not on the tintype itself. I decided that it would be better if the buyer removed the glass and gold matt from the album case for cleaning.

The photo is in good condition with a slightly dulled area behind the young gentleman.

On top of the glass is a simply decorated matt of a thin layer of a metal which appears to be gold plating. If not gold than possibly brass but it is plated. The plating has chipped in a few places as shown in the photo. There is a narrow ornate frame which also appears to be a thin sheet of embossed gold color metal. The photo, matt and frame are inserted into the back part of the case (see photos). There is a lid to the case but it is unattached from the photo. I read other tintype listings and I saw a few where the seller had repaired the front and back separation.

The side hook clasp is still on the right side of the case. The side where the knob for the clasp should be is missing.

This tintype is more than 100 years old and appears to be in good condition. I could find no studio or photographer marks.

This is a small tintype measuring 2"H x 1-1/2"W. It , it's matt and frame all appear to be in excellent condition. The portrait is of a bearded man. The tintype is matted with an ornate thin layer of a metal which appears to be copper. Glass is over the photo and the matt. The glass looks as if someone has tried to clean the inside of it with a tissue. There are little pieces of white lint clinging to the underside of the glass, which can be seen with the naked eye.

The photo, glass and matt are inside of an ornate frame which again appears to be a thin sheet of embossed copper. The edges of the frame are folded over onto the back of the photo about 1/4". There are no studio or photographer marks that I could find.

This set of 3 tintypes is unique in that they all 3 have the same man in each picture and each picture was taken at a different period in his adult life.

These are unframed tintypes which are in very excellent condition. The first photo is the youngest picture of the gentleman. He is alone and standing before a studio backdrop with pedestal and bench props in what looks like a park or a patio setting. This photo measures 2-1/8"W x 3-3/8"H. It is a rectangle with the 2 left corners clipped off and a very slight ripple in the upper right corner where it may have been folded down at one time to fit a frame. It has some very minor scratches but is in very good condition for being over 100 years old!

The next picture shows the young man standing next to a seated young woman. The studio backdrop and props seem to represent a parlor. The woman has on a very ornate hat and what appears to be a ring on her left ring finger. She seems to be wearing a glove on her right hand. This tintype measures 2-7/16"W x 3-1/2"H. This photo is a rectangle and has the 2 left corners rounded off. This photo has a few more scratches than the others but is still in very, very good condition.

The third photo has the man, looking older, sitting in a chair holding his hat in his left hand and possibly a pipe in his right hand. There are 2 younger men standing behind and to each side of the older man. The man on the right holds what looks to be a cigar? The man on the right looks to be the youngest of the group. These might be the man's sons, but that is just a guess. This tintype measures 2-3/8"W x 3-7/17"H. It has all of it's corners. This photo is in excellent condition. There are a few rust spot on the lower edge which does not effect the photo.

These tintypes are 100+ years old. I could find no studio or photographer marks.

Mourning Funeral Tintype Framed Photo $99.00

Framed Tintype of a Young Gentleman $36.45

Framed Tintype Portrait of a Bearded Man $27.49

3 Sequential Antique Tintypes of Same M $42.99

This portrait is a heavier sheet of metal than the others that I have that are unframed or loose from their frame. Ferrotypes used a thin iron sheet coated with black enamel. Those and Tintypes were popular in the 1870 until the turn of the century.

This portrait is of a young girl shown in a fancy dress, holding a wooden 'stereoviewer'. Her hair is parted in the middle and has been 'put up' which, according to my research means she was usually in the 16 to 18 year old range. However, this girl appears to be younger by several years. The only color is hand tinted pale pink blush on her cheeks. There is an elaborate architectural background which was most likely a studio backdrop.

The picture has been mistreated and has several scratches (some show a little rust on examination with a loop) and some solid dark spots where I assume something has rubbed against the surface. The frame, which I think is copper, is very ornate and has WATERBURY, CONN No. 842 embossed on the bottom folded edge. The top folded edge of the frame has SCOVILLE MFG CO. SUPERIOR embossed on it. As shown in the photo below, the frame is not attached on 1 corner because the edge has broken off at the corner fold.

This antique photo is at least 130+ years old. It has some problems but I find it a miracle that it has survived at all since it and the others were found thrown together in a heap.

Wonderful 1/6 plate of a peddler. Over his shoulder is a box on a strap. He is holding a walking stick. Note the patterned scarf. The tintype has a paper backing with the name Julius Laeke . Condition is excellent with just modest surface wear. No bends, folds or creases.  We are not experts on Civil War uniforms, but believe this to be a Union sailor from the Civil War. Tinted cheeks. This 1/6 plate tintype is still "sealed" inside its paper frame. The paper frame has been trimmed. Image is in pretty good shape. The surface has a slight haze to it.

Superb 1/6 plate of a young boy and his snare drum. Pristine condition in a paper frame which must have been protected in an album. It is not glued into the frame. Imprint on back of paper appears to say "Frede Photo Gallery." Excellent contrast and particularly sharp.

Antique Framed Tintype - Portrait of a Y $12.00

Tintype - Peddler with His Box & Walking $125.00

Tintype of U. S. Sailor - Civil War or sh $110.00

Tintype of Young Boy and Drum C. 1860-70. $125.00

Compelling 1/6 plate of a man who looks like he came from a factory to have his photo taken. He looks reasonably well groomed, but you can see the fatique in his eyes. There is slight tinting to his cheeks. Condition is excellent.  Nice casual image of what looks like a student with a college building in the background. 1/6 plate. Probably late 1800’s. Condition is very good, with just a small crimp in the right edge.   Superb image on a 1/6 plate (2 1/2" x 3 1/2"). Dates from the Civil War period. Note the little tin buckets the child is holding. We can’t quite read the badge on his cap. Condition is good. There is a bend upper left and you can also see a white streak across the man’s chest.  A fun pair showing actors. The group pose has them in costumes that look Turkish. In the other one, the actor is dressed as a soldier from Eastern Europe. C.1870’s. 1/6 plate (2 1/2" x 3 1/2"). Some wear, but in pretty good overall condition.

Tintype of a Tired Working Man. $40.00

Tintype of Young Man with his Bicycle. $50.00

Tintype of Steamboat Captain and Daughte $145.00

Tintype Pair – Actors in Costume. $45.00

Here's a character. Proudly wearing his cap. C.1870’s. 1/6 plate (2 1/2" x 3 1/2"). Good overall condition.   This may be the same girl who is in another tintype with her cat. This girl is older, but looks similar. Very cute puppy that appears to be wearing a ribbon. C.1870’s. 1/6 plate (2 1/2" x 3 1/2"). Good overall condition.   A rare pair of tintypes showing the same man in two different tintypes. C.1870’s.

Condition is very good overall with just moderate wear and some modest scratches.

Each tintype is a 1/6 plate (2 1/2" x 3 1/2"). Very unusual and a great addition to a collection.   Charming 1/6 plate of a young girl in her special checked dress. It was obviously quite a challenge to get the cat in the picture in any kind of focus. Dogs are more common than cats in photos, so this is a nice find. This tintype has a some wear, but is still in overall good condition.

Nice subtle tinting of the boy’s cheeks. Size 2.5" x 4" in its original paper holder. This tintype is quite clear. Nice contrast. Condition is very good with no bends and just very minimal scratches.  C.1870-80. 1/6 plate (2 1/2" x 3 1/2"). Fun, staged shot of a gentlemen reading his paper "at home."
