Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Collector Bookstore Notes: This book covers the folk pottery of Northeast Georgia, from the early 19th century and up. The emphasis is on hand thrown pottery, both primtive and more recent artisan examples are covered. Publishers Description: John Michael Vlach called "Brothers in Clay" "not only the best study of American stoneware pottery now available but also a fine model for the presentation and analysis of hand-based technologies." The anthropologist Claude Levi-Strauss noted, "Mr. Burrison has brought to this undertaking a sensitivity, a finesse, and a flair for description and analysis that entitle the book to a place among the classics of this type." "From Mud to Jug" -- both a companion and sequel to "Brothers in Clay" -- deepens and enriches Burrison's earlier study by focusing on the northeast corner of Georgia, which has maintained a continuous tradition of pottery making since the early nineteenth century. Through interviews, a census of active potters trained at the centers of Cleveland (White County) and Gillsville (Hall County), and more than one hundred color photographs of pots, potters, and their work spaces, Burrison captures the living tradition of one of the last areas of the United States where Euro-American folk pottery is still being made. The book also explores the roots and historical development of north Georgia's stoneware tradition and includes rare historic photos that have not been previously published. The Folk Pottery Museum of Northeast Georgia, which opened in 2006 at Sautee Nacoochee Center in White County, is also acknowledged and described.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. According to Shawnee Pottery by Bev and Jim Mangus, the company apparently began operations at just the right time. In 1937 Americans were beginning to feel hostility towards Germany and Japan and their imports. Buy American campaigns were conducted. Thus laid the foundation for Shawnee to produce pottery and dinnerware for the United States.

The company was mass producers of utilitarian household pottery items such as cookie jars, salt and pepper shakers, planters, vases, dinnerware and more.

They advertised the company could produce 100,000 ceramic items per day.

Companies such as Woolworth, McCrory, S. S. Kresge and Sears Roebuck and Company all became customers/outlets for Shawnee Pottery, helping the fledgling company become established. The various companies supplied the designs for their products and promised to purchase them.

After WWII, aggressive competition from foreign markets resulted in reduced sales. In 1961, the company closed its doors.

Finely made in colors of yellow, rose and blue with a white interior and it sports 8 wheel spokes.

In very good condition, without chips, cracks or fleabites it does have water stains inside which I have shown in my pictures and it measures 3 1/4 inches tall, 4 3/4 inches long and 3 1/2 inches wide.

A nice way to display any small flowering plant such as an african violet and an addition to any Shawnee Pottery Collection.

SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions please contact me and thank you for looking.

This is a beautiful large piece of pottery from Portugal. My guess is from the 30s-40s. It is a tan color with a band of leaves and blossoms embossed around the upper middle portion of the globe. Mark: ALCOEACA Made in Portugal  This attractive bowl measures about 7.75 inches in diameter and 4.5 inches high. The bottom is marked: Casey Pottery, Marshall, TX.  A pottery lid or cover done in 22K gold by the Stangl Pottery Co. Not sure what it fits but it will fit a 4 in. diam. opening. Label still attached. No damage.  This is an early pitcher or jug made by Royal Doulton, England then called Doulton Lambeth for the works name in Staffordshire, England. The jug or pitcher is salt glazed stoneware in a molded relief or sprig design called Toby Philpot after the heavy drinking character. The jug measures 8.5 inches high, was made 1890-1900. This tile is based on the Aesop's Fables tale of "Hercules and the Waggoner". Made by Wheeling Tile Co, of Wheeling, West Virginia, this tile design was originally created by Walter Crane in England. Polychrome transfer printed design in marvelous colors. Minor edge roughness and a lower left corner flake. Circa 1930, this is 6" square and 3/8" thick. We have two of these tiles in stock - see item # 1627 for the other one. (#1621)

Key words: art tiles antique vintage Victorian Aesops

Very fine, light porcelain perfume bottle, dating from very early 20th century. It has spatter gilding with gilded rims, and an orchid decoration. Measures 13 cm high and 6 cm diameter (5.1/8 inches by 2.3/8 inches). Apart from a small lump of something stuck to the inside neck rim, it is in excellent condition.  Vivid magenta/burgundy and Hunter green color tones combine with classic urn styling and marvelous hand painted flower and leaf treatment to make these 14 1/2 inch tall lamp bases so visually appealing. On an ivory background and 5 inch diameter base, each lamp has open scroll handles, and large 5 petal flower design with multiple leaves. Embossing and gilt beading treatment accentuate the floral pattern.

Purchased at an estate sale, the older couple had downsized to new quarters, and because they loved the elgant design of the urn shaped bases, they took off the old wiring and shades, and used the bases for display. We do not have any of the original electrical parts. The two lamps do look wonderful just as they are, but they certainly could be returned to functioning table lamps, if so desired.

There are no cracks, chips, or nicks on the lamps. We do note some minor paint flakes at the center of the five petal flower, and the petal above it on one lamp. The second lamp has slight loss of color to the urn handle, but over-all they are in fine vintage condition.

Because of the fragile nature of the lamp bases, they will be shipped in two separate boxes to ensure safe transit. The recommended shipping method would be through UPS Ground.  Two cute pigs. Both have Lefton stickers on bottom. 3-1/2"each.

Porcelain French Perfume Bottle, Circa 1 $50.00

Pair of Urn Style Lamp Bases Vintage 40’ $31.00

Pair of pigs made in Japan $35.00

This lovely compote reminds us of the Capodimonte reticulated items. It was made by the Ramex Company which is located in Romania. The top of the compote was all cut out by hand which is quite a painstaking process. It is decorated with hand-painted flowers. The bowl was made a few years ago, and we believe it will be a beautiful antique of tomorrow because of the quality of the workmanship.

The compote is 8 3/4" x 6 1/2" and is decorated with pink and violet flowers. Excellent condition.  This is a wonderful, rare all white toiletry or wash pitcher, manufactured during the 1903 to 1910 time frame, which stands 12 inches tall and is 8 inches in diameter at its widest part. The pitcher carries the back stamp of the Burgess & Campbell Company, which is a crown in a circular ring with the words, Royal China above the crown. Noted by both Edwin Barber’s book, U.S. Marks on Pottery and Lois Lehner’s volume, U.S. Marks on Pottery, Porcelain, And Clay, the Burgess and Cambell name, under the crown trademark, was replaced by the name, International when the company formed new business partnerships in 1903.

Used before homes had indoor plumbing, the pitchers were accompanied by a wash basin for personal bathing. Water was poured from the pitcher into the basin, to wash, lather with the harsh lye soap, and rinse. Unfortunately, we do not have the companion piece basin that made this a wash set. At the estate sale purchase, we learned that only the pitcher had survived.

The International Pottery Company was one of a large number of potteries formed in the Trenton area during the late 1800’s that became known as the Staffordshire of America. In over-all marvelous condition for its 100+ years of age, there are no cracks, chips, or nicks. We do note that there is crazing to some areas and a yellowing/staining of the white porcelain, where over the years, minerals from the water have seeped through the porcelain. This staining on the pitcher is by the handle, at the top of the pour spout, and a small area below the pour spout.

If you have been looking for a seldom found pitcher from a well-respected and old pottery, this piece will do marvelously well as a focal point for an Early Americana display with its classic Victorian style and embossed shell and scroll treatment.   Child’s mug, made by Royal Doulton in the popular Bunnykins pattern. Dated for the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the pattern, 1984. Mug measures 7.6 cm high and 8.8 cm diameter (just under 3 inches by 3.1/2 inches). Excellent condition.  This is a Homco Denim Days Figurine. it measures 3.5" wide and is 3.5" tall. Good condition, no chips or nicks.

This beautiful figural Parrot pottery planter is marked on the bottom: Hull / 60 / USA.

Addis E. Hull founded Hull Pottery in 1905 in Zanesville, Ohio and in the early years produced stoneware specialities. They expanded in 1907, adding a second plant and employing over 200 workers. By 1920 they were manufacturing a full line of stoneware, art pottery with both airbrushed and blended glazes, florist pots, and gardenware. They also produced toilet ware and kitchen items with a white semi-porcelain body. By the mid-1930's interest in art pottery production was growing, and over the next 15 years, several lines of matt pastel floral-decorated patterns were designed, consisting of vases, planters, baskets, ewers, and bowls in various sizes. In the late 50's and 60's figural planters and novelties, piggy banks, and dinnerware were produced in abundance. By the mid 70's dinnerware and florist ware were the mainstay of their business. The firm discontinued operations in 1985.

In colors that include greens, yellow, magenta, blue, brown and white with a very shiny glaze. In very good + condition, without chips, cracks or fleabites, there is three crazing lines on the inside bottom of the flower planter which I have shown in my pictures and he measures 6 inches tall, 9 long and 4 1/4 inches wide.

An addition to any Hull Pottery Collection.
