On top of the shelf are the items he is selling for the day. He is in colors of green and brown over cream, with a great facial expression. James Dryden began Dryden Pottery in 1946 in Ellsworth Kansas and used locally harvested clay and glaze materials from Kansas. He moved the pottery to Hot Springs Arkansas, a popular tourist destination, in 1956. Again he used native or local clay and glaze materials from the area. The pottery replaced the local clay with a refined commercial clay that fires bone-white. The pottery is still going strong today, 64 years later.

The vase measures 7 5/8" high and is 2 3/8" in diameter.

The bottom of the vase is marked Dryden Ozark Frontier; and the vase has a black and gold foil label. Please see photos.

This vase is in excellent used condition, though it could use light dusting and cleaning. There are fine surface scratches consistent with age, normal use and storage. There are no flea-bites, chips, cracks, crazing or repairs. Spots are reflections from photography flash and lighting.

Founded in 1894 by James Wright Beswick, Beswick Pottery remained in the family for three generations before becoming part of Royal Doulton in 1969, and is now independently owned. As owners and collectors of its products will testify, Beswick aimed, and still aims today, to produce well-made ceramics at affordable prices: wares which could be used daily in the home as well as decorative ornaments for animal lovers of all ages to cherish. In this volume Val Baynton explores the range of products, revealing that far more than horses -- for which Beswick was so justifiably famous -- were made. The wares are placed in context with the company's history, and information about important sculptors and designers is also included.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Table of Contents: - The American Arts and Crafts Movement is one of the most exciting and inspiring chapters in the history of the decorative arts. Rooted in the English movement of the same name, it flourished when transplanted to American soil at the turn of the century. With Gustav Stickley as its moving spirit, the Arts and Crafts Movement eventually included such notable designers, architects, and firms as Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Adelaide Alsop Robineau, Greene and Greene, the Rookwood pottery, Elbert Hubbard's Roycroft Shops, and Louis Sullivan. Together they forged a new, forward-looking aesthetic that was much more than a particular style: it was a philosophy of life, promoting physical and moral well-being. The American Arts and Crafts Movement was responsible for sweeping changes in attitudes toward the decorative arts, and it fostered the beginnings of twentieth-century design. This book is both a comprehensive and authoritative treatment of the movement and a sumptuous photographic collection of Arts and Crafts masterpieces. Pictured here in more than 130 color photographs are stained glass, furniture, silver and metalwork, ceramics, textiles, lighting, and more.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Table of Contents: - - Book III in Jim & Susan Harran's series is all-new, with no repeats from their first two books. Over 1,000 color photographs are included this time, and the book concentrates on cups and saucers that are readily available to collectors. An expanded section on cabinet cups and saucers is provided, and some of the categories from books I and II are again covered: late nineteenth and twentieth century European and American dinnerware, English bone china and earthenware cups and saucers, miniatures, and mustache cups. There are also two brand new categories in the book, Japanese cups and saucers and art glass cups and saucers made by the leading glass factories in Europe and the United States. A marks section, helpful appendix, and bibliography are once again included, as well as useful tips for dealers and collectors. PUBLISHER'S REVIEW This book is the third in a three-volume series by authors Jim & Susan Harran, and is filled with hundreds of beautiful color photographs. A history of cups and saucers is also provided. Values 2006; Copyright 2004

The bowl is hand marked or signed on the base: Pigeon Forge / Pottery / Tenn.

This bowl is in very good to excellent condition. It has fine surface scratches consistent with its age, normal use and storage. This is a lovely cream and sugar set from the artisans of Pigeon Forge Pottery. The outside of the pieces is unglazed in the original gray clay color and the interior is glazed a bright Robin's Egg Blue. There is a simple molded and painted Dogwood flower on one side. The pottery was founded by Ruth and Douglas Ferguson; it closed in 2000. The pottery used local materials for the clay and glazes. Most of the pottery produced was marked and was often signed by the artist. I do not know the actual age of this item.

The set measures 3 5/8" tall.

Both pieces are stamp marked on the bottom. Please see photos.

The set in in very good to excellent condition, though it could use light cleaning. The bottom of the sugar 'jug' has two (2) mold impression flaws on the bottom; they look like something extra pressed into the surface.  If cherubs and angels appeal to you, then this well-crafted and designed potpourri bowl or spill vase may become a new addition to your collection. Standing 4 inches tall with a 3 inch opening across its scalloped top, this Ardalt porcelain ware has boy and girl kissing cherubs as a charming handle.

The white porcelain’s only splash of color is the red bow on the front of the bowl or vase. Yes, this would work well for Christmas or Valentine’s Day, but no special holiday is required for this vintage piece. Use as a potpourri bowl or fill with silk flowers and greenery to add a lovely, light hearted angelic display.

There are no cracks, chips or nicks but there is crazing throughout the bowl or vase surface. A gold foil label with an A and the words Fine Quality, Japan can be found under the base, along with a stamped pattern #VJ 58013. We estimate the time frame for the manufacture of the ceramic to be 1950’s/1960’s.  The lesser seen Noritake color tones of bright lime green and a vivid yellow on a black background give this 7 1/2 inch diameter porcelain plate a visual punch. The luncheon/salad sized plate, with its slightly recessed center, has an Art Deco appearance and a whimsical style to the garden, Pagoda scene. The plate is accented with narrow bands of gold/gilt surrounding the plate as well as along the rim.

The Noritake, red M in a Wreath trademark, Handpainted and Made in Japan would likely date this plate from the mid 1920’s through the 1930’s. There is some minor scuffing to the plate surface, and a few spots of the white porcelain base show through. The vibrant colors and oriental garden design still add up to an appealing plate with acrylic stand for display.  This is an offering for a pristine Homer Laughlin Company vintage yellow juice pitcher! fIESTA MADE IN U.S.A. mold mark.
