Porcelain and Pottery: Nippon

What's New in the Collector's Showcase of Porcelain and Pottery: Nippon?
The Most Recent Additions to This Category are First!
This is another of the hand painted Nippon ware available in our shop. The hand painted detail is from a time when this work was prized by discriminating collectors. The handles are edged in gold as is the rim. The four corners show slight wear, however the bowl does not have chips or cracks. The bowl measures 6 1/4" long, 5 1/4" wide and stands 1 1/2" tall.  Hand painted scenic porcelain is, without a doubt, beautiful art. The scerenity of the scene is enhanced by the gold rim, but look at the individual gold dots encircling the inside edge of the bowl. Fantastic! The bowl is 5 1/4" wide and stands 1 1/4" tall. No chips or cracks are noted.  Hand painted scenic porcelain is a classic decorative style that has not been replicated in modern times. There are no chips, cracks or other wear conditions. The dish measures 6" across to the single right handle. The dish stands 1" tall.  Lovely and perfect Antique Nippon Vase manufactured 1920 or earlier. The top has a scalloped bubble design outlined in gold with gold gilt florals and little green dots dripping down over the roses on the body of the vase. Sits on 3 gold feet. Marked on the bottom in blue underglaze Handpainted Nippon with a leaf crest.

Beautiful Handpainted Nippon Landscape Vase with cottage and Pond. Marked with the Nippon green mark with M and wreath. Vase stands 5.5 inches tall.  Nippon double handled serving dish marked in blue, Hand Painted Nippon with a circle and a star like mark. It is a lovely, deep dish server with two handles in wonderful patterns of lots of gold and white flowers. It is 1 inch high and 7 1/2 inches wide. It is just elegant to go with almost any china set and does have a small under the rim chip. Sold as found.  This is a reproduction of a Nippon candleholder set. I am sure this is from the 1980's so was probably made in China. The candleholder stands 3 in. tall and measures 3.25 in. diameter at the base. Pretty wildflower design on a flat green background. Nice decorative items and are in like new condition. No damage.  This is a reproduction of a Nippon toothbrush holder and matching tumbler. I am sure this is from the 1980's so was probably made in China. The toothbrush holder stands 5.5 in. tall and measures 4.75 in. x 3.5 in. The matching tumbler is 2.5 in. tall. Pretty wildflower design on a flat green background. Nice decorative piece for your bathroom vanity. No damage.

Nippon Dble. Handled Serving Dish $15.00

Candleholders, pr. Porcelain $45.00

Toothbrush Holder, Tumbler $55.00

Neat little condiment server complete with lid and hard to find spoon (in one piece and great shape). Antique Nippon China fully marked with the Hand Painted Nippon blue "Rising Sun" mark. This is an original Nippon piece made between 1890 and 1921, although we do not know exactly when during that period it was made. This type of piece is often referred to as a condiment or mustard server, but could be used for any type of food addition handled via a small spoon.

White base porcelain (this piece is translucent) with cream colored paint near the top or outer edge (on the base piece and lid), highlighted with gold line trimming which has a raised line motif in spots including gold line trim on the side handle and the top of the lid finial/handle and gold dots on the china spoon. There are hand painted pink flowers (we don't know the type) with green leaves, with a large floral decoration on one side of the base piece and just a small one on the backside. We've provided 8 images to try and show details and the mark. Please note that we had trouble getting the coloring to show correctly with the camera lighting, so we've provided images both with and without the lighting. The white "hot spots" are reflections from the camera lighting on the glossy surface.

When "put together" with lid and spoon, this vintage condiment server sits about 3 inches in height, about 3 3/4 inches in greatest width (from outside of handle to opposite side of base) and about 3 inches in depth or diameter to this round piece. The china spoon measures about 3 1/4 inches in length.

Excellent overall condition. There are no major chips, cracks or crazing. We do see some minor flakes on the side of the inside part of the lid which fits within the base (not on the outer rim/edges) and some tiny, tiny dots or flakes as well as general expected wear on the underside of the base piece where it sits. There is some paint wear on the large flower motif on the base that you will see when you look close-up, but its not bad, the usual age/use wear and this piece has survived very well. There is some gold wear on the lines on the handle of the lid and use/age darkening on the unglazed inner rim of the base piece on which the lid sits. There is a raised extra touch of porcelain as the piece was made (it is glazed over) on the lid, some pin/pit dots in the porcelain, and other small expected use/age wear, but we are looking very closely to be fair. This piece is really in lovely shape and very usable or great for display.

Would make a nice addition for any set of Nippon China for use when entertaining, or a great small piece on display.    This is a very pretty antique Nippon China creamer or small pitcher in the popular Azalea pattern. Fully marked on the underside base with the light blue Nippon Hand Painted "Rising Sun" mark. This is original Nippon China and thus was made during the period 1890-1921, although we don't know exactly when during that period it was made. The piece came out of an older person's home.

Measures 3 inches in height, about 5 inches in width (from outside of handle to tip of spout) and 3 1/4 inches in depth. White base porcelain (this creamer is translucent) with hand painted light pink azalea flowers with green and grey shadow leaves (2 open flowers on one side with two flower buds, and on the other side one open flower with two flower buds). There is a curved spout on one side and an open geometric handle on the other side. The top rim of the vintage creamer is trimmed in gold with gold line trimming on the handle, but it should be noted that a good bit of the gold line trim along the top rim has been worn away through age/use, with also some wear to the gold line trim on the handle. We have provided 8 images to try to show detail and the manufacturer mark. Please note that we had trouble getting the coloring to show correctly with our camera lighting so we've provided images both with and without the lighting. The pink flower coloring is the usual pale pink seen with Nippon pieces of this pattern (rather than the darker, more striking azalea pink seen on Noritake pieces of this pattern). The white "hot spots" in the images are reflections from the camera lighting on the glossy china surface.

Excellent, slightly used condition. There are no chips, cracks or crazing. There are some light scratches on the white outside surface, but you need to look at an angle in bright light to see these. We've mentioned above the gold wear. We want to point out that there is no chipping or flaking on the spout rim as is often the case. There are some pin/pit dots in the porcelain, some dark dots/tiny wear on the interior of the creamer, a touch of paint wear on the flowers (nothing bad), and a bit of wear to the underside base rim on which this piece sits. Really there's nothing to worry about here, it's a lovely piece in expected slightly used condition for its age.

A great usable and displayable vintage piece which would be a terrific addition to any collection of this nifty Azalea pattern china. Would also make a nice gift for a gardener who loves azaleas.  Pretty vintage Nippon hand painted collector plate with a nice rose pattern. Signed on the back. 6-1/4" in diameter. Fine condition with no damage. Pre- WW-II.  Fantastic pair of tiny bowl, each standing on 3 tiny legs, These are perfect to serve salt and pepper during the dinner, Each standing about 1 3/4 and 2 3/4 inches in diameter, In excellent condition, no chips or cracks.

Antique Nippon China 3 Piece Condiment w $14.50

Pretty Antique Nippon China Azalea Cream $12.50

Nippon Hand Painted Rose Pattern Collect $21.95

Nippon Miniature Bowls Open Salts $59.99

Nippon Handled Condiment dish in excellent condition. It is marked with the green wreath mark with an M in the middle. It is a lovely, rectangular shaped dish with pretty patterns of green with gold designs, lovely pink and yellow flowers with green leaves and nice gold trim. There is a little wear to the gold rim trim. It is 1 1/4 inches high, 7 1/4 lone and 4 inches wide.  The bowl, or nappy, has a beautiful scene featuring tree and a windmill on the waters edge. The edge of the bowl has a tan glaze and raised dots that carry over the elaborate handle. Truly amazing artistry by the women employed to finish the china. One dot is missing from the top edge and a production dimple to the left of the windmill that has been covered by glaze. The bowl was marked with the green mark and has "M" in Wreath, Mark #27, which was used by Noritake after 1921 and before 1941, while the Morimura Brothers were distributing the china in the United States. No chips or cracks or crazing is noted.  Unique, this set would make a great addition to your early Noritake collection. The set is highlighted by the gold edge and fine line above the pattern and base. The pattern is unknown, but on close inspection the simple beauty of the pink and blue flowers surrounded by green leaves is enhanced y the moss green patter below the thin gold line. Note the pattern repeat on the sugar lid. Considering the age of the set, the gold edge shows gentle signs of wear on the handles; otherwise the set does not have any chips, cracks or crazing.

The back stamp is circa 1918 and listed as MM-19. Noritake made many variations of the back stamp and it was used, with modifications until the 1941 closing of Noritake's New York office. The back stamp came in a variety of colors, but this green back stamp was used for patterns decorated at the main factory in Nagoya. Further reference information can be found in the Collector's Encyclopedia of Early Noritake, written by Aimee Neff Alden.  The hand painted gold beading on a white background is awesome! "Nippon" was placed on items made in Japan until 1921. The bowl has mark #47 (M-in wreath, which stands for Morimura Bros). The octagon shape was featured in the early salesmen's catalogs, though this pattern seems rare. The shape is most likely from a berry bowl set, however as a decorative collectible, this bowl will highlight your collection of early Nippon china. The gold beading is in excellent condition, as the gold edge on the rim and collar base. The bowl measures 9 1/4" diameter, 3" tall and the collar base is 5 3/8" diameter. No chips, cracks or crazing is noted.
