This is a very rare, compelling, and extra large antique Victorian engraving titled, "The Lord’s Supper". It is highly detailed. All of the faces are full of character and emotion. The details in this wonderful engraving are stunning! The engraving is crisp and beautiful and the scene is captivating. The engraving is signed and dated by the artist in the lower right hand corner of the picture, "F.W. Wehle, 1888". His full name is Friedrich W. Wehle (b.1831 - d.1901) Wehle was a famous German-American church artist. Below the engraving, in small letters, it reads, "Copyrighted & Published 1888 By F.W. Wehle, Milwaukee, Wis.". Under that, in large letters, is the title, "The Lord’s Supper." written in two different languages. Both the engraving and the matting are in excellent original condition. This very large engraving is in its original, ornate wood and gesso frame. The frame is massive, very elaborate, highly detailed, and extremely complimentary to this piece. The frame retains the original gold finish with a wonderful old patina. The frame is in excellent original condition with an extremely tiny chip of gesso missing. It has the original wavy glass, wood backing, and wire hanger. This is a rare and exceptional piece! Circa 1888.

*** I’ve included A SHORT HISTORY OF ARTIST, FRIEDRICH W. WEHLE:

"While the majority of nineteenth century church decorations in North America were created for Roman Catholic churches, we find religious art works in Protestant houses of worship as well. Trinity Lutheran Church in Milwaukee still owns three lovely 1880 altar paintings by Friedrich W. Wehle of Milwaukee. These paintings are neither murals nor canvases. They were painting on a tripartite screen that is placed behind the alter during the four weeks before Christmas. The central panel depicts the Nativity scene with shepherds and the Magi adoring the newborn Christ child. The left panel shows the angel appearing to the shepherds, and on the right panel the child is being presented in the Temple. These are dramatic renditions in the Italian Renaissance tradition and very different from Johann Schmitt's Nazarene style. Wehle placed his figures in a deep space and added dramatic lighting. Three other Wehle paintings, the Crucifixion, Resurrection, and Ascension of Christ hang above the altar during the remainder of the church year.

Friedrich W. Wehle was born in Neu Jonsdorf, Saxony, in 1831 and immigrated to the U.S. in 1866. As a young man in Germany, he received some instruction in painting in Dresden. After his arrival in the U.S., he spent two years as a student of theology at Concordia College in St. Louis, but dropped out because of poor health. Before settling in Milwaukee in 1879, he lived in Quincy and Belleville, Illinois. Beside the altar panels for the Trinity Lutheran church in Milwaukee, Wehle painted a resurrection scene for the Trinity church in Freistadt, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, another Missouri Synod church."

*** I've included a nice article I found about THE MEANING OF THE LORD'S SUPPER:

The Lord's Supper is a reminder of what Jesus did in the past, a symbol of our present relationship with him and a promise of what he will do in the future. Let's examine these three aspects.

1.) The bread and wine are memorials of Jesus' death on the cross (Luke 22:19-20; 1 Cor. 11:26). In the Lord's Supper, we each eat a piece of bread in remembrance of Jesus. When we drink the "fruit of the vine," we remember that Jesus' blood was shed for us, and that it signifies the new covenant. The Lord's Supper looks back to the death of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Jesus' death shows how much God loves us — so much that he sent his Son to die for us, so that our sins may be forgiven and we may live forever with him. This is good news! Although we may be saddened by the enormous price that had to be paid for us, we are happy that it was indeed paid. When we remember Jesus' death, we also remember that Jesus was dead for only three days. We rejoice that Jesus has conquered death, and has set free all who were enslaved by a fear of death (Heb. 2:14-15). Our mourning has turned to joy (John 16:20). Christians look back to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus as the defining moment in our history. This is how we escape death and the slavery of sin, and this is how we are freed to serve the Lord. The Lord's Supper is a memorial of this defining moment in our history.

2.) The Lord's Supper also pictures our present relationship with Jesus Christ. The crucifixion has a continuing significance to all who have taken up a cross to follow Jesus. We continue to participate in his death (Rom. 6:4; Gal. 2:20; Col. 2:20) because we participate in his life (Gal. 2:20; Eph. 2:6; Col. 2:13; 3:1). Paul wrote, "Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?" (1 Cor. 10:16). With the Lord's Supper, we show that we share in Jesus Christ. We participate with him, commune with him, become united in him. The Lord's Supper helps us look upward, to Christ.

In John 6, Jesus used bread and wine to graphically illustrate our need to be spiritually nourished by him: "Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.... Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him" (verses 53-56). The Lord's Supper reminds us that real life is found only in Jesus Christ, with him living in us. When we are aware that Jesus lives in us, we also pause to think what kind of home we are giving him. We allow him to change our lives so that we live the way he wants us to. Paul wrote, "A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup" (1 Cor. 11:28). The Lord's Supper helps us look inward, to examine ourselves because of the great meaning in this ceremony.

As we examine ourselves, we need to look around, to other people, to see whether we are treating one another in the way that Jesus commanded. If you are united with Christ and I am united with Christ, then we are united to each other, too. The Lord's Supper, by picturing our participation in Christ, also pictures our participation (other translations may say communion or sharing or fellowship) with each other (1 John 1:3, 7). Paul wrote in 1 Cor. 10:17, "Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf." The Lord's Supper pictures the fact that we are one body in Christ, one with each other, with responsibilities toward one another.

3.) Third, the Lord's Supper also reminds us of the future, of Jesus' return. Jesus said he would not drink the fruit of the vine again until he came in the fullness of the kingdom (Matt. 26:29; Luke 22:18; Mark 14:25). Whenever we participate, we are reminded of Jesus' promise. Paul wrote that "For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes" (1 Cor. 11:26). The Lord's Supper helps us look forward.

The Lord's Supper is rich in meaning. That is why it has been an important part of the Christian tradition throughout the centuries.

~ This article was cited from the following website: Wcg.org/Lit/Church/LordsSup/LSqanda.htm  This is an extra large, captivating, and impressive antique print portraying Jesus, age 12, as a handsome young man. This picture is an enlarged detail of the famous scene, "Jesus in the Temple with the Doctors & Priests", which was originally painted in 1882 by the famous listed artist, Heinrich Hofmann (1824-1911). This picture is one of 4 of Heinrich’s most famous works of art. This particular print is done in sepia tones and framed in an impressive and highly complimentary mahogany wood frame. The print is in excellent original condition, except for the top left area showing some very minor age-appropriate wear, mostly at the very edge. The frame is original to the print. It has a very nice, dark and rich, old original finish. The picture retains the original glass and wire hanger. Missing paper backing. There is a partially intact, old original label from the framers on the back of the frame at the top. It reads, "The H.L….", (maybe Company) along with title, artist, and order number signed in pencil. It appears the title reads, "Christ…" but most of the label is missing. I’m assuming it would have said, "Christ in the Temple", but cannot be sure. The frame is in excellent original condition, except for a couple small chips of veneer missing. They are barely noticeable and do not detract from the beauty of this endearing picture. Circa 1900.

*** I’ve included some fascinating information about THE HISTORY OF THIS SCENE:

"The Feast of Passover. - In those days there used to be a great feast in the Temple at Jerusalem every year, and people from all parts of the country used to go to Jerusalem for this feast. Joseph and Mary used to go, too, every year. The Child Jesus was a lovely Boy, and was growing strong and tall and more lovely every year. When He was twelve years old Joseph and Mary took Him to Jerusalem for one of these feasts, and a great number of their friends and relations went too, and they all stayed there some days. On their way home again they missed Jesus. Mary thought He was with Joseph, and Joseph that He was with Mary. When they found it was not so, they said: "Oh, He is with our relations;" but when they asked their friends they said: "No - we have not seen Him." So Mary and Joseph went back to Jerusalem and looked about for Him for three days. At last they went into the Temple, and there they found Jesus sitting down with a number of priests and learned people about Him, and he was asking them questions and answering theirs in a wise and clever way - so wise that all these learned men were surprised. When Mary saw Him, she said to Him: "Son, why hast Thou done so to us? Thy father and I have sought Thee with sorrow." Then Jesus answered and said to them: "How is it that you sought Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s work?" Mary and Joseph could not tell why He spoke thus to them, but Mary kept all these words in her heart to think over them. Then Jesus went back with them to Nazareth, and was subject to them - that is, He obeyed them in all things."

*** I’ve also included a SHORT BIO ABOUT the original artist, HEINRICH HOFMANN:

"Johann Michael Ferdinand Heinrich Hofmann (March 19, 1824-June 23, 1911) was a German historical painter of the late 19th to early 20th century. He was the uncle of the German painter Ludwig von Hofmann. He was born in Darmstadt, Germany and died in Dresden, Germany. He is best known for his many paintings depicting the life of Jesus Christ.

Four of the most famous works of Hofmann are in the possession of the Riverside Church in New York: Christ and the Rich Young Ruler, Christ in Gethsemane, Christ in the Temple and Picture of Christ. According to information of the Riverside Church, the painting Christ in Gethsemane is without much doubt one of the most copied paintings in the world. While he chose his subjects from the whole field of literature and mythology, Hofmann is most widely known for his idealized scenes from the life of Christ. Several of these have been extensively reproduced in engravings, especially his "Christ in the Temple," painted in 1882. Heinrich Hofmann died in 1902.

The religious body of Hofmann’s work has gained in importance in the past years. One of the reasons for the increasing popularity of his artwork is the publication of his paintings and pencil drawings depicting the life of Jesus Christ in The Second Coming of Christ, the interpretation of the Bible by Paramahansa Yogananda, the teacher of Yoga.

Heinrich Hofmann was one of the pre-eminent painters of his time. The Sunday Strand – at that time a very popular British magazine– describes him as the most influential contemporary German painter. Hofmann’s style of painting was unique in its own way but at the same time he based his work on the traditional art of old German, Dutch and Italian masters. While in Rome he also came in touch with the Nazarenes – especially through the influence of Cornelius – but throughout his life he remained faithful to the great examples of the Renaissance. Religious paintings take the center stage in Hofmann’s work; but he also created numerous portraits and pictures that depict mythological and historical topics."

~ This article is cited from: Wikipedia.org  This is a thoroughly inspirational, captivating, and very rare antique Victorian print of two sisters praying together. Their faces capture sweet innocence. Their pose is charming and the setting is enchanting with roses and Victorian furnishings. The print is signed by the famous listed artist, "E. Munier" and dated, "1887". The original matting is also special, adding texture and interest. The original wood and gesso frame is exceptional and outstanding!!! It has elaborate, floral gesso work throughout. This very special frame retains a wonderful old patina. Both the print and frame are in excellent original condition. Original glass, wood backing, and wire hanger. Circa 1887.

*** I've included an interesting COMMENT ON THE RARITY & VALUE OF EMILE MUNIER'S ARTWORK:

"Munier's beautiful and sentimental paintings have always been sought-after and his work is still popular and highly valued on the rare occasions on which it turns up at auction today."

~ This short article was cited from the following website: ArtinaClick.com

*** I've also included a FASCINATING BRIEF BIO ON FAMOUS LISTED ARTIST, EMILE MUNIER:

"French painters of the 19th century were known for their sense of color and enchanting interpretations of youthful forms. In Emile Munier we find the maturity and appreciation of manhood and the sensitivity of the artist combined with the freshness and innocence of childhood.

Born in Paris, Munier spent his life there surrounded by his family – including some of the delightful models whose pleasing images he portrayed in his art. He received instruction in art initially from Abel Lucas at the Gobelins Factory and later from William Adolphe Bouguereau. Bouguereau epitomized academic art in France and was one of the most financially successful of artists. From this master he acquired his sensitivity, style and refine coloring.

Beginning in 1869, the artist exhibited regularly at the annual Paris Salon. In 1882 he was awarded an Honorable Mention.

Munier was known as a genre painter and an excellent portraitist, but it was the glimpses of child life, so tender and beautiful in sentiment, that endeared him to the public.

Of his work with children one critic wrote: "Their fair forms, perfect in outline and fresh as flowers of Eden, appeal to every mother’s heart, and their earnest faces mirror the purity and devotion of the soul within. Surely no painter of any age has put so much purity, peace and saintliness into children’s faces as Munier. His brush is never soiled with turbid color, nor his canvas stained with an impure suggestion."

This captivating pint features men, women, and children gathering around Jesus as he blesses the little ones. This engraving captivates you with its wonderfully fine details. *** I’ve included below, a short and interesting BIO OF THE FAMOUS LISTED ARTIST, SIR CHARLES LOCK EASTLAKE, P.R.A.:

Sir Charles Lock Eastlake, P.R.A. (born Nov. 17,1793, died Dec. 24, 1865) was a famous English painter, gallery director, collector, and writer of the early 19th century. The abbreviation, P.R.A., stands for: President of the Royal Academy. Sir Charles Eastlake "dominated the early Victorian art establishment, quickly earning honor after honor, and with them, positions of increasing power. He became an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1827 when he was 30, an Academician three years later, and the Academy librarian in 1842. His three greatest positions of power and prestige followed. In 1844 he became secretary of the committee in charge of selecting paintings for the newly rebuilt Houses of Parliament, in 1850 President of the Royal Academy, and in 1855 Director of the National Gallery. He and his wife, Lady Eastlake, were the great power couple of the contemporary art world." In 1849, he married Elizabeth Rigby, an art historian and translator of German art histories, forming a formidable art history writing partnership.

"As someone who embodied the aristocratic, conservative, and rather mediocre art establishment in his own person, Eastlake is perhaps best remembered today as the polar opposite of John Ruskin, advocate of both Turner's later experimental art and the young anti-establishment Pre-Raphaelites. In a small way this opposition is ironic, since both men studied with Samuel Prout, whose urban picturesque great influenced Ruskin's early drawings. In addition to their opposing views on many areas of the arts, the Eastlakes, particularly Lady Eastlake, led a campaign against Ruskin after his wife left him, secured an annulment, and married Ruskin's protogé, Millais.

Eastlake attended Charterhouse, one of the seven prominent public schools, before leaving to become a student of Benjamin Haydon, after which he entered the RA schools and studied under Henry Fuseli. He visited Italy in 1816 and Greece in 1818, living in Rome from 1818 to 1830 where he began to paint Italian genre subjects of the sort exemplified by The Salutation to the Aged Friar."

*** I’ve also included below, a short BIO OF THE FAMOUS ENGRAVER / LISTED ARTIST, SAMUEL SARTAIN:

"Samuel Sartain was one of the best-known steel engravers in the United States. He was the son of the late, John Sartain." Samuel was born the year 1830 in Philadelphia, PA and died in the year 1906. Throughout Samuel’s early career, "he studied mezzotint engravings with his father and engraved after paintings by C. W. Peale, Thomas Sully, and others."

***I’ve included below a short BIO about the FAMOUS LISTED ARTIST, HENRY LeJEUNE:

"The British artist Henry Lejeune was born in 1819. He was known for painting figurative and rural country scenes and his sentimental depictions of children established a trend which was followed by many artists in the 19th century. Many of his subjects were views of the Thames and the coasts of Holland. In the period 1840 to 1850 he also painted some historical and biblical subjects.

In 1845, Lejeune became a drawing master at the Royal Academy and, in 1848, he was elevated to the position of curator. He became an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1863.

From 1840-1894 he exhibited at the Royal Academy and his work was also shown at Suffolk Street and at the British Institution. His works can now be seen in many museums and collections, including the Manchester City and Salford Art Galleries. Henry Lejeune died in 1894."

***I’ve also included a COMPLETE BIO OF ARTIST, HENRY LeJEUNE:

"A history and genre painter, was born in London on 12 December 1819, the son of Anthony Le Jeune, a professional musician of Flemish origin. Le Jeune hailed from a musical family, his grandfather and brothers also being musicians. His sister developed an interest in photography, working in Italy. At a young age, Le Jeune expressed a desire to be an artist, and his family encouraged him to study the collections in the British Museum. In 1834 he was admitted to the Royal Academy Schools; there, after obtaining four silver medals in succession, he exhibited his first work in 1840, Joseph Interpreting the Dream of Pharaoh's Chief Butler. In 1841 he earned the gold medal for his Samson Bursting his Bonds, exhibited at the British Institution in 1842. He married Dorothy Lewis (fl. 1820–1900), daughter of James Dalton Lewis, a lieutenant in the Royal Navy, on 21 June 1844, and together they had five sons and three daughters.

Le Jeune worked in both oil and watercolour. He exhibited eighty-four pictures at the Royal Academy between 1840 and 1894, and twenty-one at the British Institution between 1842 and 1863. Early in his career Le Jeune painted biblical themes, such as the Liberation of the Slaves (1847), purchased by Prince Albert and now in the Royal Collection at Osborne House, as well as literary themes often drawn from Shakespeare (Prospero and Miranda, 1844) or Spenser (Una and the Lion, 1842). In the 1850s, however, he began to devote himself to genre scenes, especially depictions of children, and it is for these works that Le Jeune gained his greatest measure of fame. In 1858 the Art Journal commented that, ‘whatever merits his other pictures possess, his real strength lies in his representations of those "small folk"’ (p. 267). Subjects such as Early Sorrow from 1869 (Royal Holloway College) and Children with Toy Boat (Manchester City Galleries) from 1865 characterize these works, which were praised for their ‘truth, beauty, and natural expression’.

While Le Jeune continued to exhibit works at the Royal Academy and the Society (later Royal Society) of British Artists, he was appointed headmaster of the morning class at the Government School of Design at Somerset House. He held this post until 1848, when he was appointed curator of the painting school of the Royal Academy, an office that allowed him to teach painting. Le Jeune held this post until 1863. That year he was elected an associate of the Royal Academy, and although he never achieved the rank of academician, in 1886 he was named an honorary retired associate.

Le Jeune remained in London his entire life, retiring to Hampstead about 1864. He died at his home, 155 Goldhurst Terrace, Hampstead, on 5 October 1904, and was buried at Kensal Green cemetery."

*** Here’s a little INFO ABOUT THE SCENE itself, "CHRIST BLESSING LITTLE CHILDREN:

Some parents or nurses brought little children to Christ, that he should touch them, in token of his blessing them. It does not appear that they needed bodily cures, nor were they capable of being taught: but those who had the care of them believed that Christ's blessing would do their souls good; therefore they brought them to him. Jesus ordered that they should be brought to him, and that nothing should be said or done to hinder it. Children should be directed to the Saviour as soon as they are able to understand his words. Also, we must receive the kingdom of God as little children; we must stand affected to Christ and his grace, as little children to their parents, nurses, and teachers. (Mk 10:17-22)

~ This was cited from: BibleGateway.com

***Also I’ve also included a wonderful prayer titled, "A Prayer for Children" and a quote from the Bible below that:

O God our heavenly Father, who lovest mankind, and art most merciful and compassionate, have mercy upon thy servants for whom I humbly pray thee, and commend to thy gracious care and protection. Be thou, O God, their guide and guardian in all their endeavors, lead them in the path of thy truth, and draw them nearer to thee, that they may lead a godly and righteous life in thy love and fear; doing thy will in all things. Give them grace that they may be temperate, industrious, diligent, devout and charitable. Defend them against the assaults of the enemy, and grant them wisdom and strength to resist all temptation and corruption of this life; and direct them in the way of salvation, through the merits of thy Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, and the intercessions of his Holy Mother and thy blessed saints. Amen.

"Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, 'Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.'" (Matthew 19:13-14)

It is said that the little child that Jesus had on his lap when he said this was St. Ignatios.

Vintage Small Print Jesus with Lamb, in excellent condition, 4 by 5 1/2 inches  Vintage Holy Cards The Pope with Children, set of two cards, in good condition  This is a very attractive antique print titled, "The Lord Is My Shepard". It features Jesus holding a baby lamb, surrounded by His herd of sheep and ram. The sheep have such adorable expressions. The wonderful detail of their furry wool and their cute little pink noses and mouth make them ever so charming. In regards to the unique style of this print, I would say that there are three interesting things about it that make this picture special and different from others of its kind. First, the colors are not only delightful, but pleasantly vibrant, vivid, and bright. Second, the intriguingly large words of ‘The Lord Is My Shepard’ are unusually styled in a Mod-type of Old-English sort of way. Very interesting! Third and finally, there appears to be a black sheep in the herd, which is quite uncommon and rare for this shepard scene. This print is in great original condition, except however, I must mention that this print has numerous thin creases running throughout. This print lies completely flat in the frame, so only in a certain light and from a certain angle will you actually see the creases. One little crease at the top has turned into a very, very small tear. Original, gold-painted decorative molded wood frame. The frame is in excellent original condition. LEFTON’S PRAYING HANDS PLANTER $15.00

A beautiful figurine of whom I believe to be St. Therese. She is holding a jar, in which a dove of peace on a short metal rod is resting. Also she has a metal halo on the back of her head, which also is on two short metal rods, so both the dove and halo can be removed. She is standing on an imitation marbleized base. The figurine measures 13 in. tall, and the base measures 3 ½ in. by 3 ¾ in. Since the bird just is sitting on the jar, he had fallen a few times, and part of his rear tail is missing, and a bit of damage to the top of his head. She has a few missing flakes, but overall this still is a great figurine. The bottom insert is wood, however, I can’t tell what the figurine is made of, possibly a thin layer of chalk or plaster over lightweight wood, or a composition material. The only markings are on the rear of the base and are, 0 1 0. Shipping weight 2 ½ lbs.  A simply beautiful figurine of Madonna with a Halo, signed on the back base, M. I. Hummel. The figurine is done in soft shades of blue and peach, nicely done facial features, and measures 12 in. high. The figurine is bottom stamped with a Stylized bee inside the V and Western Germany on the side, as well as being incised, 45/1, ca. probably 1960-1972. The bottom front of the base has a 1 ¼ in. long chip, mostly from underneath, but gives the appearance of a ragged finish to part of the front base. However, when standing, the base damage is hardly noticeable. Price has been adjusted accordingly. Shipping weight 1 ½ lbs.   A very heavy nice sized figurine known as La Pieta. Done in what appears to be plaster, this figurine is signed but the name is very hard to read, as it has been worn. I can only figure out a few letters, AR, and possibly M before the AR and V or W after the AR and the copyright symbol. The bottom rear base of the figurine has damage, see photo, and price has been adjusted. The figurine measures 9 in. tall, and the base measures 4 ½ in. wide by 7 ¼ in. long. Shipping weight 4 lbs. 12 oz.  This is a wonderful, inspirational religious picture featuring a very compelling interpretation of the Bleeding Heart with a cross and crown. It has numerous cut-outs with the original silver foiling. It is crinkled in such a way to create a shiny glisteny design. The foil has been hand-colored with red and gold. The black background is reverse painted. This piece is in excellent original condition. The fancy metal frame is original to the piece with a velvet backing which stands or hangs. The frame is also in excellent original condition. Circa 1940’s.

Religious Reverse Painted Picture of Ble $75.00

This is a hard to find, large, antique Victorian bedtime prayer with a compelling photographic print of a lovely mother embracing and praying with her young son and daughter by the fireplace. This is the well-known prayer of, ‘Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep…’. The print is bright and in excellent original condition. In the lower right corner of the print, there is a gold stamp that reads, "Copyright Manz, CHI." with the number ‘42’ in the other corner. The words of this bedtime prayer are in a beautiful, bold, and fancy Old English text. Gold-trim highlights nicely compliment the black text and the two borders framing the picture and blessing. In the lower left corner, under the blessing, it reads, "Coath Creation". The lower right corner reads, "House of Manz, Chicago". This is a large and attractive antique bedtime prayer. The matting is in excellent original condition. The frame is original to the print and blessing/matting. The wood frame has original grained finish and is also in excellent original condition. Original glass. The nice, original black paper backing is partially torn and missing. Wonderful antique, decorative, gold tasseled cord and wire hanger. Circa 1900.  This is a lovely antique religious house blessing print titled, "God Bless Our Home". The way this piece is portrayed depicts a charming little cottage in the bottom center of the print with a picture of Jesus above, almost as though he’s watching over he house from above. His picture, which displays the Sacred Heart, is separate from the blessing, which could be considered the matting. It’s pretty interesting how the center matting appears to be in the shape of a picture frame with a nice decorative chain link hanger. The ‘hanger’ is linked to the beautiful scrollwork that decorates the top of the print. There’s even a faint, but fancy, triangular-shaped design pattern to the full background of this print. The way this print was uniquely colored almost gives the look of an airbrushed-effect to the scrollwork, house, and landscape. The lettering remains bold in color with fancy Old English text. This print and matting are both in excellent original condition. Original, gold-painted molded wood frame. The decorative frame is also in excellent original condition. Original glass and paper backing. Old string hanger. Circa 1920’s.  This is a very attractive Italian print featuring a glamorous, yet holy, picture portrait of the Young Virgin Mary. This picture is titled, "The Adoring Virgin" by famous Italian artist, Filippino Lippi, from Florence, Italy. From Mary’s expression, it appears she’s deep in thought, probably praying. In the foreground are mountains, village, and river. In addition, Mary’s preciously innocent face and fancy veil-type hairpiece give this picture a refreshing and youthful appeal. The print is in excellent original condition. Original, gold-painted molded wood frame. The frame is round in shape with a circular decorative pattern. The frame is in excellent original condition, but with an overall age-appropriate shabby-sheik-type wear to the finish. (see photos) Original glass, slightly torn, but all intact, original paper backing, and old metal hanger. There remains a nice original label on the paper backing that bares the artist’s name, location, title (in 3 languages), and country of origin, "Made in Italy". Circa 1950’s.

*** I’ve included some interesting information about the artist, Filippino Lippi:

Filippino Lippi, c.1457–1504, son of Fra Filippo Lippi and nun Lucrezia Buti, was a well-known painter working during the High Renaissance in Florence, Italy. Filippino first trained under his father. He soon became an accomplished painter, revealing the same mastery of color and line as his father, and in 1480, was entrusted with the completion of Masaccio's frescoes in the Brancacci Chapel, Florence. Filippino Lippi completed his apprenticeship in the workshop of Botticelli, who had been a pupil of Filippino's father. His first works greatly resemble those of Botticelli's, but with less sensitivity and subtlety. Lippi's last work is the Deposition for the Santissima Annunziata church in Florence, which at his death in April 1504 was unfinished. He was so renowned that all the workshops of the city closed on the day of his burial.

This is a lovely antique picture blessing print. It is titled, "The Blessing of the Sacred Heart" and is written in fancy Old English lettering. Above the blessing is a complimentary picture of ‘The Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ’. Framing the blessing and picture is an attractive and decorative scrolled design, adding a nice eloquent touch to this piece. Another interesting detail is the background of this print. Delicate, fine, light white striping of lines run diagonal throughout, creating a pretty, textured appearance. This print is in excellent original condition. Original silver-painted molded wood frame with matching, decorative scrollwork. The frame is also in excellent original condition. Original glass, torn paper backing, and old string hanger. Circa 1920’s.

This is a lovely antique print featuring the classic scene of The Last Supper with Jesus. This picture includes a lot of nice details throughout, one being the expressive faces of each person at the table. The nice subtle colors uniformly cast a slightly reddish tone to this print. The bottom center of print is titled, "Madonna". Their faces are mesmerizing and their eye’s are full of expression. Luminous flowing energy surrounds them. There is an enchanting, gentle, and captivating quality to this picture. It’s not often that you see Jesus portrayed as an older child, unclothed. Mary appears to be comforting him. Hard to Find Antique Religious Print of $135.00

This is a hard to find antique sepia print of young Jesus laying on top of straw. A white cloth is draped over his body. Jesus is seen blessing the viewer with his other hand over his heart. His face glows with innocence with a handsome boyish charm. This print has been originally applied to the matting. The print and matting are originally separate, but nearly impossible to tell. The inner matting has a delicate, gold, double-trim nicely bordering the print. The original molded wood frame retains its old gold finish. The molded design on the corners of the frame compliment this piece nicely. The original picture frame backing has a beautiful black, decorative design. This piece is made to stand nicely on a table with it’s original decorative cardboard easel. Old, original glass. Overall, this print is in excellent original condition, except for a slight ripple in the top right corner of the picture, above Jesus’ hand. The frame and matting are both in excellent original condition. Circa 1920’s.  This is a rare and unusual scene of The Virgin Mary with Bernadette Soubirous. This antique print is titled the, "Madonna of Lourdes" in several languages at the bottom of print.

I believe the story goes, that while Bernadette Soubirous was gathering firewood one day she stumbled upon The Rocky Grotto at Lourdes where The Virgin Mary appeared. Mary reveals to Bernadette that she is the Immaculate Conception.

This is a wonderful enchanting picture. This picture was printed on a heavy cardstock-type paper. Above the Rocky Grotto scene is an image of a church in the clouds. On each side is a dove with a ribbon in their mouth holding a religious symbol. This print has bright, vibrant colors with crisp detail. Original gold-painted wood frame with applied decorative shell-shaped metal corners. The frame has minor age-appropriate wear with slight scratches throughout. (see photo) Original glass and old wire hanger. Nice original wood backing. This beautiful print is in excellent original condition, except for a small tear on Mary’s hand. The tear is virtually unnoticeable. Overall, this is a captivating and enchanting piece of antique religious art. Circa 1910.  Four angelic looking choir boys in white and cranberry, blond hair and great facial features. One is standing, holding a song book while he is singing; one is kneeling down in prayer; one is kneeling, head bowed, holding a crucifix; one is standing and holding a candle. This is just a beautiful set. The choir boys measure 4 in. and 5 ½ in. high and are bottom stamped in red ink, Japan.   A vintage Roman Catholic Four Way Cross Medal. Silvertone metal, the cross medal is inscribed on the back, I am a Catholic, Call a Priest. The medal measures 1 1/8 in. long.

One side with a raised figure of the Virgin Mary, and writing on the oval rim (my eyes cannot read it), and the other side another raised figure, with part of the saying on the rim being, Holy Family Pray for Us. Beautiful Vintage Madonna Head Vase in a soft, subdued bisque finish. She is marked with a Dickson (probably the importing company), Made in Japan sticker. Measures approximately 6'' tall. The colors are the palest blue, white and pinky/purple with just a hint of gold trim. Very good condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. These gentle Madonna head vases are very collectible and addictive.  This is a special antique print featuring Jesus and titled, "The Blessing of the Sacred Heart". Below his picture are several different prayers. An ornate border of floral design frames Jesus and the four prayers with gold shimmery highlights throughout. The border is intertwined with beautiful shades of blue, green, pink, orange, and yellow. The fancy black lettering nicely compliments this ornate border. The bottom left corner of this print reads, "Nihil Obstat; Arthur J. Scanlan, S.T.D.; Copyright 1923. WM. J. Hirten Co., Inc.". The bottom right corner of print reads, "Imprimatur; Patrick J. Hayes, D.D.; New York. April 15, 1923." Original, gold-painted molded wood frame. Original glass and old wire hanger. There is less than a quarter of the original paper backing left; however, there happens to be some handwriting intact on this paper, probably from the original gift giver. What is left on the paper backing reads, "Sister Regina, Sept. 1". Overall, this piece is in excellent original condition.  This is a special antique print of "The Annunciation". Artists have portrayed this famous scene in many ways, but this particular picture is quite unique and hard to find. This picture features Archangel Gabriel and the Virgin Mary. Gabriel is visiting Mary to reveal to her that she will give birth to Jesus. The scenery behind them is picturesque and the fine details of the Temple that surround them are incredible. Both of their expressions are captivating and inspiring. This picture is vibrant and colorful. On this same print, below Mary and Gabriel, are three famous scenes of Adam and Eve. The first scene depicts God warning Adam (while Eve is sleeping) not to touch the apples. The second scene depicts both Adam and Eve plucking the apple from the Forbidden Tree with the serpent (devil) wrapped around the tree. The third and last picture shows both Adam and Eve feeling ashamed for their actions as they are banished forever from the Garden of Eden. An angel hovers behind them. These three black and white scenes below have great detail for their small size. Original, gold-painted, wood frame with a textured design and black trim. Original glass and old wire hanger. The original paper backing is intact with very minor tears. The original label on the back reads, "Henry Schultheis Company, 42 Fulton St., N.Y.C.; Paintings, Prints, & Framing". Also, the word, "Annunciation" is written on the back in pen. Overall, this piece is in excellent original condition.  This is a wonderful antique print of young Jesus (I believe he’s portrayed as being 12 years old) in the Temple with a Bible beside him at a podium. It looks as though he’s teaching. The colors are bright and vibrant. The bottom right hand corner of print is signed by famous artist, "Giovanni". Original, gold wood frame with decorative scroll design. Original glass and old wire hanger. The original paper backing is mostly intact with some tears. This piece is in excellent original condition.
