Celebrates the art of the bamboo fly rod & offers a detailed & memorable portrait of the pleasures of "fishing bamboo." Has a helpful bibliography & lists of reliable rod dealers & modern bamboo rod-makers. A classic intro to bamboo rods & to the subculture of people who make, buy, collect & fish with them. An introduction to bamboo fly rod fishing by a master of the sport. Once an angler masters a graphite rod, his interests often move on to the original fly rod, pliant bamboo. Until the mid-twentieth century, nearly all fly rods were bamboo. By the 1970s, fiberglass and graphite changed the world of fly-fishing. But more and more anglers are seeing bamboo rods in retail outlets, and want to give them a try. With this book, John Gierach, one of the nations top fly-fishing writers, provides a philosophical guide to the angler who seeks this new old method. Gierach discusses how bamboo rods are built, how they differ from graphite rods, and how using one will change a fly fishers approach to the sport. Fishing bamboo might be the pinnacle of fly-casting skill, and this book will help take you there.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Few possessions are as highly prized by duck hunters as their favorite calls. Skillfully crafted and highly individualized, calls enable the hunter to attract waterfowl by mimicking their sounds. In recent years, the appreciation for calls and the art of call making has increased notably among waterfowl enthusiasts. As collecting has grown in popularity, a fascination with the history and craftsmanship of duck calls has emerged. In this lavishly illustrated book on the duck calls of Illinois, collector and enthusiast Robert D. Christensen recounts the history of call making and provides a practical guide for collectors of this uniquely American folk art. Featuring famous makers and introducing many lesser known craftsmen, he shows how Illinois artisans dominated the early market and continued to influence the design and the refinement of the modern duck call. The book spans one hundred years of call making, from 1863 to 1963, detailing the development and evolution of call design and focusing on the work of Illinoisans, whose contributions in the "golden age" of hand-crafted calls have remained unparalleled. Christensen offers useful advice on collecting duck calls, including information on finding antiques, evaluating calls of unknown origin, assessing value, and identifying counterfeit calls. Christensen provides essential data on over one hundred call makers of Illinois, long recognized as a vital and active hub for the craftmanship of calls, and includes over five hundred photographs and illustrations that facilitate identification of the calls. Covered in the catalog of call makers are such historically significant and skilled crafters as Fred A. Allen, credited with having made the first modern duck call; Charles W. Grubbs, maker of the first commercial modern wooden duck call; Charles H. Pet-dew, Illinois's most revered call maker; the Glodo family, of Southern Illinois fame; Philip Olt, founder of the world's largest call company; Charles Ditto, nationally renowned waterfowler and sportsman; and Bill Clifford, maker of the most intricately designed and crafted laminated duck calls. An invaluable reference book and collector's guide, this volume is a unique accessory to waterfowling for enthusiasts and a must for collectors.

In his quest to become a better fisherman, Fred Arbogast began to design his own lures. He then began selling his lures to pay for his casting competitions, and eventually started making lures full time. From this humble beginning, the Fred Arbogast Co. became one of the largest suppliers of bass lures in the world. The company was sold in 1997 and now the Akron, Ohio, factory stands silent, but thanks to PRADCO (Plastic Research and Development Group), several of Fred's original lures live on. The values of the many discontinued lures and colors have climbed rapidly over the last ten years. This book contains over 800 photos and three color charts which take the reader through the company's history. Current values have been given as a guide to help sellers and collectors reach fair prices.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. It is well done and may save a buyer money and a bad experience."John Sexton - appraiser and noted Confederate authority If you are interested in Confederate Knives, this is where to start. If you collect Confederate Knives, this book has photos of a lot of knives that have never been seen before. If you are wondering if that "Confederate Bowie" you bought at a yard sale is authentic, this book has plenty to offer you.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The story of Jim Bowie's last stand at the Alamo with his famous knife was a 25 year-old legend when the Southern boys took up arms against the Northern invaders. In the era of unreliable flintlock and percussion arms, a fighting knife as a back-up weapon that never fails had become standard equipment for citizens, hunters and soldiers alike, especially in the rural South. In this antebellum knife-culture, most knives were of modest practical proportions, crafted by local artisans or imported from Sheffield, England. But some truly monstrous knives were made in the early Confederacy, the reason for which is still debated among collectors. Perhaps knowing full-well that their government could not provide enough firearms, many CS soldiers went to war with these menacing side-knives. Besides being no match against a regiment in blue armed with rifled-muskets, the 23 inch, two pound weights banging against their thighs for the last twelve hours march were not a good idea. After a year of war (or sooner), many soldiers discarded the huge knives along the fields or sent them back home as impractical souvenirs. Nevertheless, the indefatigable governor of Georgia, Joe Brown, decided that more knives were needed, and his quest to that end is the subject of this book. The mammoth Bowies of excellent quality turned in to the Georgia State Arsenal in 1862 are the closest the Confederacy ever came to a regulation-issue side-knife. The knives served their state and the Confederacy in the field, if not to the fullest aspirations of the hopeful, to the most reasonable needs of the practical soldier. In this comprehensive study of these Southern Bowie knives, author/collector Josh Phillips identifies the craftsmen that answered the governor's call and the many types of huge Bowie knives that they turned in to the state arsenal at Milledgeville. Tracing archaeological findings and newly discovered relics and manuscripts, the author unfolds a modern detective story, complete with all relevant details for today's collectors. The eighty-plus color and B/W full-page photographs by renown photographer, Jack Melton, make this an essential library reference addition for all knife and weapons collectors.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The products of Gladstone, Michigans famed Marble Safety Axe Co. and Marble Arms & Manufacturing Co., better known by the Marbles trademark, have always enjoyed a special place in the realm of sporting collectibles, not to mention the hearts of sportsmen. Marbles fixed blade knives were actively sought out long before other hunting knives were deemed worthy of collecting, the safety axes treasured by those who wouldnt cross the aisle to look at any other kind, and the folding knives... well, that goes without saying. Todays Marbles collectors are as knowledgeable and devoted and serious as those who pursue the very best in Case knives, Remington Bullet knives, or antique bowie knives. Collecting Marbles items has always been somewhat of a challenge, however. Unlike the fields mentioned above, most of the information published on the subject is difficult to locate particularly the books by Schreier and Schmeling, and past articles in Knife World. Other information useful to collectors had never before been published, the terminology often had to be learned from other collectors, and many rarities had never even been illustrated before. But with the recent publication of The Encyclopedia of Marbles Knives & Sporting Collectibles, author Arni Dunathan has finally delivered to collectors the guide that has long been needed. Loaded with full color photos on almost every page, the book begins with an overview of The Marble Story before diving right into the heart of the material. Each of the chapters that follow focus on a particular area of Marbles collectibles: Marble Axes; Webster Marbles Ideal Hunting Knife; Webster Marbles Other Belt Knives; Marble Arms Belt Knives; Folding Knives and Tools; Fish Knives, Gaffs and Creels; Sheaths; Compasses, Match Boxes, Gift Sets and Game Calls; Firearms and Accessories; and Advertising. Concluding the book is a chapter on Marbles in the New Century, and appendices on Marks and Grading. Practically every known pattern of Marble knife and axe is illustrated in color photographs of actual examples not catalog illustrations along with a description of major variations and collector values in two grades of condition. Not only can you expect to find a gaggle of Ideals, Woodcraft knives, and Safety Hunters, you can also gaze upon Coquina Sets, a Camp Carver, one of Websters original 18 prototype safety axes, and the elusive Marble-Lowell Folding Lawn Rake (yes, really!) Unsure how to tell a rare Marbles Canoe Knife or ultra-rare M.S.A. Co. Yacht Knife from the much more common Ideals? The answers are here, complete with photos and measurements. Its hard to be critical of a book that has been so badly needed for so long. Perhaps the photos are not as sharp as the studio work of professional knife photographers, but they are sufficiently clear and certainly attractive, often accented with interesting props. Details on less important variations are sometimes left to be tracked down in the more obscure sources, but you can be sure that all the important ones are covered. The writing is clear and to the point throughout, perfect for a book of this type. Marbles collectors of all levels are flat-out going to love this Encyclopedia. If you too share an interest in the old Michigan manufacturer of goods For Every Hour in the Open, I have no doubt that this well done guide will soon find itself occupying a treasured place on your bookshelf.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We do note a scratch to the print itself which most likely occurred when the print was being placed into the acrylic frame. This is a fun way to settle a team rivalry. Place your twelve Dolphin team helmets on one side of the board while your Buffalo Bill opponent sets up twelve of the Bills helmets on the opposite side.

Using the checker strategy of jumping, here called tackling, you capture helmets and get to wear a face mask when you reach your opponent’s side (like being kinged in checkers).

Produced in 1993 for the National Football League by Big League Promotions. Comes with the like-new condition board, helmets, face masks and directions.   Many Steeler fans already have a brand new 6 times Super Bowl Championship flag to celebrate this year’s victory in Tampa, Florida. This flag commemorates their Super Bowl XL win, making them five time winners back in 2006.

Wincraft, USA is the manufacturer of this 16 inch by 17 1/2 inch flag attached to the 30 inch long dowel/stick. Officially sanctioned by the NFL, and carrying its logo, this banner has no tears or rips, but does have what appears to be slight bleed-through of the brown, black color onto the white at the bottom border, and at the top of the banner. This does not detract from the overall look of the flag however.  This fine vintage advertisement of a 1966 ad for Bantron Smoking Deterrent Tablets is in excellent condition but is slightly yellowed.
