Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The Whitefish Press is proud to announce a new book co-produced with Hoagy B. Carmichael. Hoagy B. Carmichael is a name that is synonymous with the bamboo fly rod. His seminal work A Master's Guide to Building a Bamboo Fly Rod, written with master rodmaker Everett Garrison and first published in 1977, helped create the "bamboo Renaissance" we are still enjoying today. The new book 8 By Carmichael: Portraits of Fly Fishing Innovators Ed & Jim Payne, Chauncy Lively, Dr. George Parker Holden, and Vince Marinaro, along with a Short Collection of Stories is a book of essays and articles, some of which were previously published in the legendary The Angler's Club of New York Bulletin and in The American Fly Fisher and have always been difficult to locate. These wonderfully written and witty articles detail everything from the author's relationship to Vince Marinaro and Chauncy Lively to detailed and definitive articles on famed rodmakers George Parker Holden, the author of the influential Idyll of the Split Bamboo, and Ed & Jim Payne. In particular, the 50-page treatment of the Paynes will likely be the definitive work on the subject for the foreseeable future. Based on exhaustive research, it will serve as a fitting tribute to these masters of the split cane fly rod. The book is printed in very limited numbers (1000 copies in the First Edition) and will certainly sell out very quickly. It is a beautiful hardcover with a Smyth sewn binding and comes in a Excelin stamped slipcase. Don't miss out on your opportunity to get a copy!  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The M1911 Complete Assembly Guide is a companion volume to the author's The M1911 Complete Owner's Guide. Coached by pistolsmith Drake Oldham, the author and two "advanced amateurs" show how to assemble and upgrade the M1911. Lavishly illustrated, The M1911 Complete Assembly Guide is far more than a traditional "how-to" book. Based on the experiences of a diversified build team, the TIPS, TRICKS, and PITFALLS characteristic of Walt Kuleck's previous Complete Assembly Guides are more wide-ranging and encompassing than ever. The team discovered on their journey toward understanding that many more "situations" arose than would have been the case if the author had been building a pistol "for the Guide" by himself. They share their experiences-including their missteps-as they build their pistols. The efforts of the team have produced a unique assembly and upgrade guide for the M1911; there's never been a guide like this, indeed, there's never been a gun book like this! We've done our best to create a valuable resource for the first-time, and second-time, and third-time-and based on the team's experience using The AR-15 Complete Assembly Guide, even twentieth-time-1911 builder. Come and join The M1911 Complete Assembly Guide team as we take a jumble of parts and build pistols of which to be proud. With this book in hand, you can, too. The Assembly Guide started with an e-mail from a reader of The AR-15 Complete Owner's Guide. The correspondent expressed his appreciation for the AR-15 Guide and how the Guide has served as a resource for the assembly of more than twenty AR-15s--by him, his brother, and their friends. He then asked when a similar Assembly Guide for the M1911 might be forthcoming. As far as it goes, the e-mail was something of a routine communication often received by authors, except for one detail: the correspondent is a resident of the same small city in which your author resides. A luncheon was soon arranged, then another, and at the third, a plot was hatched. The correspondent, Greg King, and his brother, Eric, were eager to participate in the project to create The M1911 Complete Assembly Guide. Their interest and enthusiasm led the brothers to organize a well-equipped work space with ample room for four builders to work on pistols. This is where the Guide was born. The alert reader will note that the author and two brothers add up to three, not four, builders. The team was rounded out by a friend of the author: police officer, trainer, and up-and-coming pistolsmith Drake Oldham. The author met Drake at Larry Vickers' pistolsmith course; from that serendipity, a collegial relationship began to develop. Drake is what one might call a 'practical perfectionist.' He understands the difference between perfection for performance, and perfection for its own sake. Drake recognizes that the 'advanced novice' for whom this book is written needs to know why he or she is performing a process or executing a procedure, not merely how to do it. While the benefits for each of the team may be obvious, that is, having the opportunity to craft his own custom pistol (in the case of Eric, two pistols, one for his charming significant other, Lark) with expert guidance, the benefits for you, the reader, of the team's collaboration may not be so evident. What the team discovered on their journey toward understanding was that many more 'situations' arose than would have been the case if the author had been building a pistol 'for the Guide' by himself. Consequently, thanks to the experiences of the team, the TIPS, TRICKS, and PITFALLS characteristic of the previous Assembly Guides are more wide-ranging and encompassing than ever. As the author is fond of saying, "Experience is the best teacher--but other people''s experience carries the lowest tuition!" As a bonus, the Guide includes the report on a series of Drop Tests performed by Drake's Gun Works and the book team. The result of these tests shocked the us; the new data from these tests is sure to rekindle the ongoing convtroversy about firing pin safeties. The Assembly Guide goes far beyond the military manuals in both scope and depth. It's a 'must have' for every M1911 owner! The M1911 Complete Assembly Guide is 6" x 9", is Perfect bound with a laminated soft cover, and has 257 pages and over 400 photographs.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Also covered in detail are the rifles produced: the Scott-Field Webley-Wyley, Model of 1897 and the famous Model of 1902. Webley was, during the late 1800s and early 1900s the largest British manufacturer of sporting arms. This story and various models, of single shot rifles that Webley produced will be studied in detail. The remaining sections of this volume will cover a little known rifle, the Ingram-Coster of 1897 of which only one is known. The history of the two major makers of British ammunition, Eley and Kynoch as well as their activities and developments from black powder days, through Cordite and its problems and the development of Nitro for black loads, comprises the balance of the book. Confederate Bowie Knives of the Georgia State Arsenal by Josh Phillips (9781427632197): "When the retreat commences ... keep close at their heels with the knife, till each man has hewed down, at least, one of his adversaries. Thus encouraged the Civil War governor of Georgia, Joe Brown, the patriotic young men in the defense of the state. He further pleaded with the regions mechanics to aid in the impending arms crisis: I have already a considerable number of these ... knives, but I desire, within the next month, ten thousand more ... I must have them; and I appeal to you, as one of the most patriotic class of our fellow citizens, to make them for me immediately... In this comprehensive study of the Confederacys only regulation-issue side-knife, the author identifies the craftsman that answered the governors call and the huge Bowie knives that they turned in to the state arsenal at Milledgeville, Georgia in the summer of 1862.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Collector Bookstore Notes: These are some of the most illuminating articles ever published on how to choose, care for, and fish bamboo fly rods. Publishers Full Description: Sante L. Giuliani is also known by his on-line moniker, fishnbanjo, or "Banjo" as he is affectionately known. A long-time contributor to Dick Spurr's Cracker Barrel web site and VFS fly fishing forums, nearly a decade ago when both of these web sites disappeared, Sante began crafting his own epistles to the bamboo fly rod which he called, in homage to these departed fly fishing havens, the Cracker Barrel. This is because in olden days, folks would gather around the cracker barrel in general stores to kibbitz on a variety of topics. Thus the Cracker Barrel was born. Sante wrote some of the most illuminating articles ever published on how to choose, care for, and fish bamboo fly rods. He enlisted some of his friends--noted rodmakers William "Streamer" Abrams and Mark Wendt, renowned collector Ken Smith, and celebrated authors Kathy Scott and Joe Beelart--who also contributed articles to the Cracker Barrel. What resulted is collected here for the first time in book form. From detailed analysis on all aspects of the bamboo fly rod--including everything from how a rod is constructed to the differences between impregnated and varnished rods to a discourse on tapers to how to properly put a bamboo fly rod back in a rod sock--this is one of the finest primers on the bamboo fly rod ever put in print. Includes chapters on why you should fish bamboo, how to buy a bamboo rod, how to cast a bamboo rod, how to care for bamboo, building a cane rod, references for bamboo fly rods, impregnated vs. varnished rods, bamboo fly rod tapers, and balance and rod performance, as well as a number of entertaining pieces on Winston, Kushner, Judge Voelker, Chris McDowell, John DeNoma Sr., and Roger Fairfield. Limited to 100 numbered hardcovers, this is the second volume in the new "Fly Angler's Desktop Library."  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Collector Bookstore Notes: Circa 1882. This is a series of articles by a then-famous amateur "expert" on the best Victorian methods of building fishing rods, including split bamboo. Publishers Full Description: In 1882, E.C.Z. Judson--the famed angling writer known internationally as Ned Buntline--wrote to the new journal The American Angler that "the finest amateur rods...I have ever seen, are made...by Judge Fitch, a great fisherman, of Prattsvile, New York. Will he favor the readers of The Angler with a description of the make, weight, and wood used...?" With this one short paragraph, Judson set in motion events that culminated in January 1884 with the publication by Judge Fitz James Fitch of a seven part treatise on rod making for amateurs. Intended for publication in book form, despite their popularity, the articles were never collected. Now, for the first time, Fitch's entire unabridged treatise on rodmaking appears in book form, along with a collection of his other rodmaking, fishing, and miscellaneous writings. Included also is a detailed biography of Judge Fitch by Dr. Todd E.A. Larson. Learn why Judge Fitch was considered by no less of a fishing authority as A.N. Cheney to have made rods as well as Leonard and Wheeler, and read about the Victorian method of constructing rods (including split bamboo) that deeply influenced a generation of rod making fly fishermen. Limited to 100 numbered hardcovers, this is the first volume in the new "Fly Angler's Desktop Library."  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas.
