We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Collector Bookstore Notes: Covers antique powder horns from 1676 - 1780. Full-color photographs, details, historical significance, where & when made, primarily military forts & specific wars. Publishers Description Full-color photographs and details of antique powder horns from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Over 180 powder horns are included in this full-color, beautifully illustrated book. Powder Horns: Documents of History emphasizes the beauty of these handmade works of art as well as their historical significance. Unlike other works that have focused solely on the artistic merit of these creations, author Tom Grinslade relates each horn, as much as possible, to where it was made and the events that were occurring at the time. Horns from the 17th century to the first quarter of the 19th century are included, representing the period from Queen Anne's War to the Revolutionary War and beyond into the early years of our nation. Powder horns with inscriptions, often identifying the owner and/or maker, a date and a location, offer the greatest possibility for additional research and so are heavily represented here. Whenever possible, information on the owner or maker is presented along with details of each horn's design. A broad group of horns, including very plain as well as elaborately engraved horns, has been included in an attempt to illustrate the historical events that took place as our nation developed. Brief measurements and details about each horn are recorded. The length is measured to the nearest inch from the tip of the base along an imaginary centerline. Also given are the diameter of the base and the number of pegs or pins used to attach the base-plug to the horn. The inscriptions, if any, are recorded, reproducing as much as possible the styling of the letters. The majority of horns featured come from the author's collection, but a number of other notable horns have been included to offer a more complete study. Over 90 percent of the horns have never been published before and so will be of particular interest to students and collectors. Chapters include: Pennsylvania screw-tip horns, Southern powder horns, Tansel family horns, New England horns, Indian horns, storage horns, rum horns, priming horns, and buffalo horns. The two largest chapters feature French and Indian War horns and Revolutionary War horns. Chapter ten includes information on the care of horn objects, disposition of collections and some questionable powder horns. Also included are a bibliography and indices of names and places appearing on the horns. This study offers an intriguing glimpse into the lives of the original owners of these horns, as well as their makers. Particularly evocative are the unfinished horns, leaving one to wonder why they weren't finished and what happened to interupt the work. Powder Horns: Documents of History sheds light on an important cultural artifact and the times during which they were produced. Perhaps unlike any other publication, this book give these artifacts the importance they deserve as both the creative expression of their maker and as a document of the culture that produced them.

Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Collector Bookstore Excerpt: The purpose of this book is to inform the collector of details to be expected of an original, or correct, Model 1917 rifle. Such details include finish, dates of manufacture and serial number correlation, manufacturer and inspection markings, rebuild marks, and differences in parts between the three manufacturers: Winchester, Remington, and Eddystone. Publisher's Full Description: UNITED STATES RIFLE MODEL OF 1917 provides both the beginning and advanced collector of the Model 1917 rifle with a depth of information heretofore unavailable. The very existence of the Model 1917 rifle was almost accidental. When America entered World War One it had but 600,000 Model 1903 rifles with which to arm a growing military. Government armories were unable to supply the additional millions of rifles required. Because three American firms were already making rifles for Britain it was possible that an American version of the British Pattern 14 rifle could be produced quickly in significant numbers. It saved the day generations ago, but is little understood as a collectable military item or in historic significance. The purpose of this book is to inform the collector of details to be expected of an original, or correct, Model 1917 rifle. Such details include finish, dates of manufacture and serial number correlation, manufacturer and inspection markings, rebuild marks, and differences in parts between the three manufacturers: Winchester, Remington, and Eddystone. The accoutrements chapter includes information on bayonets and scabbards, slings, grenade launchers, cleaning equipment, and much more. Additionally, this book provides a historic background leading up to manufacture of the rifle. Total quantities of rifles made by each manufacturer are given, as are dates of first shipment to the Government and dates of last manufacture. Finally, the rifle's use after World War One by the U.S. and several foreign countries is addressed. If you are interested in the study of the UNITED STATES RIFLE MODEL OF 1917 and have been disappointed by the lack of information available, then this book is for you!  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. The Match Conditioning Instructions guide the reader through the activities required to convert the M14/M1ATM into a first-class target rifle. Numerous drawings and photographs aid in completion of this procedure. Publisher's Description: The M1 Garand: Owner's Guide - Disassembly, assembly, inspection, repair, cleaning, zeroing, and more. Written specifically for the M1 rifleman. "How do I take it apart and put it back together?" "How do I clean, lubricate, and maintain it?" This book will answer those questions. The civilian owner of an M1 rifle is faced with maintenance activities not encountered by military users. The owner must understand the operation and function of the rifle, and be proficient at dissasembly, assembly, inspection, and replacement of individual components. the purpose of this book is to impart that information to the reader which is necessary to develop the knowledge and ability to perform those tasks. With the release of Disposable - A History of Skateboard Art in 2004, author Sean Cliver made a brilliant attempt at artfully cataloging every important skateboard deck ever released. In the process, he created a classic, but was left feeling less than satisfied. Ever the completist, the gaping omissions in the first book gnawed at him and drove him to envision compiling the ultimate encyclopedia of Skateboard decks. While Disposable was beautiful, capturing the essence of the aesthetic, The Disposable Skateboard Bible sets out to be the ultimate guide. The author's industry insider status (in 1989 he landed his first job as a designer at Powell-Peralta) allows him to guide readers through the culture and experience, the art and the mania of the skate world with authority and expertise. Publishers Description: This book provides both the beginning and advanced collector of the Rock Island Arsenal Model 1903 rifle with a depth of information heretofore unavailable. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Table of Contents: - This superb reference on the official knives and axes of the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and related organizations keeps getting better with each printing. BOOK REVIEW (of current 5th printing) Reviewed by Knife World Staff If the cover of this book looks a little familar to you, don't be surprised -- it should. Author Ed Holbrook has been publishing Official Scout Blades since 1997, and it's unquestionably the best ever done on the subject. So why are we reviewing it again? Well, once in a while Ed goes ahead and updates his book without a lot of fuss or fanfare. This year brought the fifth revision of Official Scout Blades, and while most would promote each new edition Mr. Holbrook modestly calls each update a new "printing." Over the years, these updates have caused the book to grow from 72 pages to the current 130 pages. Among the additions to the original book are a price guide, a detailed index, quite a few more vintage advertisements, catalog pages, and of course more axes & knives both recent and old. This isn't a book with lots of stories and detailed historical explanations; it's a collectors guide with an emphasis on identification and dating. Included are descriptions and photographs of just about all known variations of the official knives and axes of the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Camp Fire Girls, along with detailed descriptions and original model numbers. Some scattered non-official knives are included as well. The black & white photographs won't blow you away, but they are quite adequate for identification purposes -- and everything is illustrated. If you have an interest in scout knives or axes, Official Scout Blades is a required reference -- and if your old copy doesn't include a price guide or index, it might be time to replace that old dog... especially since the price tag is about the only thing that Ed hasn't changed!  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. His passion for this historic weapon was almost as remarkable as his precision and his eye for detail. His illuminating volume encompasses the development of this essential hunting and fighting tool, and it is without equal as a reference for flintlock collectors, dealers, or owners--or for anyone with an interest in weapons and history. 2007  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. OUR NOTES: Karl White's three volume series has consistently remained one our most popular resources in this field. Taken together, they represent one of the most broad and comprehensive approaches to this highly collectible (and profitable) collecting hobby. I heartily recommend Karl's 3 book set as a worthy addition to any collector or dealer's reference library. -- John Kincaid, Collector Bookstore Author's Introduction: The purpose of this book is to identify and evaluate plugs and plug boxes dated up to 1970. Plugs are identified as a bodied lure made from wood, metal, plastic or any counterpart. Prices can fluctuate up to 50%, according to the demand of antique tackle. One thing to remember is that the better items keep getting more valuable and the common items stay about the same. Lure Sets (items of one company's production) and Color Sets (all colors produced of one item), should be at least 25% more valuable. The values in this book are rated as to excellent condition, although the items pictured might not be. (From the author's introduction to contents)
