Tobacciana: Pipes

What's New in the Collector's Showcase of Tobacciana: Pipes?
The Most Recent Additions to This Category are First!
A wood pipe that I believe is of German or Austrian origin. The stem is 13 in. long, a flexible fabric in center. Measues 9.5 in. from lod to base. There is a 3 in. long crack that I think could be restored. Please view image carefully. I really know very little about this type of pipe so cannot provide much further information. Priced at the low end of a search online for value.  Smoking Tobacco pipe in a figural design. It has the carved features of a man with a beard and mustache and great eyes. He has a green painted hat with the metal cover over the bowl. It is marked Briar Foreign and is in great condition with wonderful detail. It is 5 inches high and 5 3/4 inches wide. Sold just as found and it was used.  Pipe cleaning tool in the original case marked only, pat. pending. It is a different, metal tool with some pitting to the surface. It comes in the original leatherette case and is 2 1/2 inches high and 2 inches wide. View all of the pictures as it is sold just as found.  Long tobacco pipe with a deer scene. The long stem has the mouth piece at the top with a couple of chips on the rim. The base has a goat head with horns head picture and the bowl of the pipe has a lovely deer scene with an opening top with some corrosion around the metal rim. It is 14 inches long and is so different. View all of the pictures. It is sold as found.

Raised metallic gold grapes with hand painted roses in white triangle. 5 1/2" x 4 1/2". Light wear to gold/  Glass tobacco humidor with wood cover on a pipe rack, holder with space to display 4 pipes. Overall measurements are 8.75 in. long, 5.5 in. wide and 5 in. tall. The wood lidded glass canister is 4 in. diameter. I find no damage to the humidor or holder. Sticker on bottom of rack reads Decatur Industries Inc.  This smoking pipe from the 1970s is marked: Willard / Imported Briar. with a yellow dot.

The Willard pipes were made by Sparta Industries in Sparta, N.C from 1963 to 1975 (about 60,000 pipes per week). Some were distributed by the Post and Base Exchanges that serviced the military during the Vietnam War. Others were produced for R. J. Reynolds Tobacco.

By 1615 in England, the first consignments of Virginia tobacco for pipe smoking had arrived and some 7,000 shops in London sold tobacco. It was not until the 1850s, with the influence of Spanish cigars and a sturdier briar pipe that the clay pipes popularity began to wan a bit. A fancy pipe of Briar maybe even with fittings of sterling silver or gold could show ones stature just as a gold pocket watch could. The 19th Century saw hundreds of designs manufactured. Pipes with figures, animals, and all sorts of emblems became common.

In very good condition the pipe end does have to be replaced, it also needs to be cleaned and polished and it measures 1 7/8 inches high, 1 3/8 inches wide and 5 7/8 inches long.

An addition to any Pipe Collection.

SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions feel free to contact me and thank you for looking.  Unsmoked Meerschaum Figural Sherlock Holmes Pipe with case.

Awesome vintage pipe rack with 4 corncob pipes. The rack is likely a Syroco wood product, N.Y.; it would usually have a label but the label is missing. The piperack is made of a composite wood, (sawdust and glue) which was commonly used during the period between the World wars since real wood was needed for other things. It is very detailed and in good condition. You also get the 4 corncob pipes; one is very tiny. A very cool accessory item for an office or tobacciana collector! 10/10estMC  A pottery pipe shaped as a female form. Measures 8 in. long and is 2 in. wide. Good, usable condition.  A unique pipe made of bone, I believe, and fitted with brass. Measures 8.5 in. in length and the bowl of the pipe is 2 in. tall. It has holes in the bottom of the brass inside the bowl. Why? I don't know. The carving looks Asian. I find no damage. Appears to have been used as intended as there is residue. I cannot be sure, but it could be ivory?

Featured for your enjoyment is another wonderful item from Minnesota’s Attic. This is a

wonderful old pipe from about the 1800’s. It is made of Boxwood which is beautifully worn from

age to a striking patina. It has a raw boxwood stem topped with a carved horn mouthpiece. The

windcap is nickel plated and does show wear. It is used and as I have no clue how to clean it

properly, it is uncleaned. Wonderful old pipe in a very unusual shape. Reminds me of those old

Sherlock Holms movies.
