Brief history about the famous Lusitania from wikipedia . org:

RMS Lusitania was a British luxury ocean liner owned by the Cunard Steamship Line Shipping Company and built by John Brown and Company of Clydebank, Scotland. Christened and launched on Thursday, June 7, 1906, Lusitania met a tragic end as a casualty of the First World War when she was torpedoed by the German submarine, U-20, on May 7, 1915. The great ship sank in just 18 minutes, eight miles (15 km) off of the Old Head of Kinsale, Ireland, killing 1,198 of the 1,959 people aboard. The sinking turned public opinion in many countries against Germany. It is often considered by historians to be the second most famous civilian passenger liner disaster after the Titanic.

This clear glass advertising ashtray with frosted glass bottom is a souvenir from the Swedish American Line Cruise Ship. Marked with the 3 crowns emblem and line name embossed under them it was made c1950s. The Swedish American Line was founded in November 1914 by the Swedish ship owner Dan Broström. The ports of call were Göteborg (Sweden), Copenhagen (Denmark) and/or Oslo (Norway), Halifax (Canada), and New York, N.Y. As cruise liners, the ships were renowned for their beauty, luxury comfort, and the highest quality service provided by the Swedish crew. The name Rockefeller appeared on the passenger list more than once. After 60 successful years, the company's passenger ship operations were dissolved in 1975, suffering severely from a weakened cruise market. In good condition one of the corners is chipped off as you can see in the pictures and it measures 7/8 inches tall and 2 3/4 inches square. With triple collector quality, it would be a great addition to any Tobacciana, Cruise Line or Advertising Ashtray Collection.

SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions please contact me and thank you for looking.  A great partial vintage partial page original magazine article is entitled: WORLD'S LARGEST WOODEN SCHOONER...The 6-masted schooner "Wyoming," launched recently in Bath, Maine, is the largest wooden schooner in the world. She has a length of 329 feet, a breadth of 50 feet and her carrying capacity is 6,000 tons. The piece measures most of the page which is approximately: 6 1/4" x 9 1/4"; odd shaped. Condition: EXCELLENT. Certificate of Authenticity is provided to show that this piece is from an original magazine (not a copy).

...Some history on the ship from the net: The Wyoming had 90 steel crossbraces. Even while she was yet on the drawing boards the marine engineers who designed and built her knew from experience with shorter ships that the length of the Wyoming would exceed the structural limits of wood. For this reason they attempted to defeat, or at least support, the laws of physics and the principles of marine engineering with steel. It was to no avail. Not even the steel bracing could prevent the flexing and twisting that resulted in the separation of the hull planking. The Wyoming required constant pumping, as did her sister ships. The Wyoming leaked from the day she hit the water until the day, 14 years later, when she foundered and broke up off of Monomoy Island while riding out a storm at anchor.

It is said that she could be seen to snake (movement of the bow and stern from side to side in relation to the midship) and hog (movement of the bow and stern up and down in relation to the midship) while underway. The action of the waves, in even calm seas, caused the planking to be sprung beyond the capabilities of any calking that could be devised. The Wyoming and her sisters were used, for the most part, for short, close-in coastal hauls, generally in sight of land. At the first sign if inclement weather, they could run for port. The Wyoming served for several years as a coal hauler, as did several of her sisters.

"Cowboy" of the deep, the modern tugboat, deliberately looks for trouble. Such is the code of the tugboat men that, besides "riding herd" on $1,500,000,000 worth of shipping, salvaging $15,000,000 worth every year, speeding the arrival and departure of liners, they still find time to hunt trouble. Thousands of improvements have been made upon the steamship since the invention of the "Clermont," but science has not devised anything that will prevent a graceful greyhound at sea from changing into a lumbering elephant in the harbor. Marine engineers have gone a long way toward solving the problem. Many images including: Leviathon, Historic Constitution, Submarine "S-4", (lots of tug images & more)... Each page measures approximately: 6 1/2" x 9 1/4" Condition: EXCELLENT. Certificate of Authenticity is provided to show that this piece is from an original magazine (not a copy).

Great 1954 CANADIAN PACIFIC ocean liner postcard. This is a lovely real photo postcard of the EMPRESS of FRANCE ocean liner. Mailed in what looks to be 1954 and used, in very fine condition. . A lovely attractive ocean liner postcard to add to your collection.  This is a nut dish or an ashtray from a bar on the famous old British liner, Queen Elizabeth, when she was still in service in the early 1960’s. She carried tens of thousands of American troops during WWII and was the world’s largest ocean liner for decades.

The canoe design went with the theme of the bar. Glazed red clay ware with the ship’s name on both sides of the canoe. On one side it says “The Queen Elizabeth” and on the other side is the ship’s name in French….”La Reine Elizabeth.” Maybe the bar had a Canadian theme. Interestingly, it is marked on the bottom: “Canuck Ware, Canada.”

Size: 7 inches long x 3 inches wide. Condition is like new, though its definitely old.

Some history on this ship from www . history . navy . mil:

S.S. Malolo, a 17,226 gross ton passenger liner built at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was completed in late 1927 after a delay caused by a very serious collision while running trials. For the next decade she was employed by the Matson Navigation Company between the U.S. West Coast and Honolulu, Hawaii. Though renamed Matsonia in 1937, when Matson sold the previous ship of that name, there was no change in her activities until early 1942 when she began service as a War Shipping Administration troopship, under the Matson Company's management. During the rest of World War II she played an important role in Pacific conflict's logistics effort, making trips to Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere in the southern Pacific, as well as to Hawaii, Guam and, after the war ended, to Japan.
