This plate feautures the Sagres, a steel-built three masted barque, with square sails on the fore and main masts. It was build as a training ship in 1938, a sister ship to the Gorch Fock, by Germany. Taken as a war prize by the U.S. and sold to Brazil in 1948. She later sailed under the Potugese flag in 1962. The Sangres is the thrid training ship by that name.

<p>Look at this great Currier & Ives color print titled, Clipper Ship "Nightingale", getting under weigh, off the Battery New York, and dated 1946. It looks like it was originally printed in 1894,(date is hard to read) and this reprint was done by, I. B. Fischer Co., New York City. It was part of an 8 print set, they released in 1946. Of course the picture features the 1800's Clipper Ship, "Nightingale, setting sail off what is now Battery Park, in NYC. The overall size of the print is 11" x 14", and the color print measures about 8 1/2" x 12". The colors are bright & crisp. These prints are in excellent condition, and are suitable for framing. Please view my other auctions, for the other 7 prints in this collection. This will make an AWSUM Holiday addition to any Currier & Ives Collection.
