Vintage Bakelite or Lucite Knitting Nedd $9.95

Keen Kutter Scissors, Shears, Simmon's $30.00

Scissors, Keen Kutter, Simmon's $30.00

A scissor or shears marked Simmon's Keen Kutter. In good condition but does need a polishing. Measures 8.25 in. long overall.  This lot of about 300 vintage buttons, pins, charms, and jewelry parts came from the drawers of an old treadle sewing machine I bought years ago at an estate auction, where I found out that the machine was used by at least three generations of women in the family. First, the odd jewelry parts and non-button items:

A brass bracelet with three carved amber type scarab cabochons (three missing). I presume the cabs are plastic but I don't know for sure. Blue Bakelite scarf slide or buckle. Enameled Mammoth (ski resort) pin, plastic Grand Junction Colorado lapel pin. Bronze or copper quill and scroll 1776 pendant. Two carved green stone (Jade?) fish beads. Goldtone boot button or charm. Engraved silver colored jug charm. Yellow catalin donkey, missing pin back. Loose goldstone cabochon. Faceted large clear pear shape rhinestone pendant in silver colored setting. Enameled porcelain pendant with Paris France written on back.

The buttons include dress, clothing, coat, and fancy styles, lots of blues and greens. There are Bakelite, shell or mother-of-pearl, metal-framed, carved, plastic of course, and even a few glass, bone, and leather styles. Space doesn't allow me to show pictures of all the different and unique styles, but among the more unusual types of buttons are two clear lucite buttons that have embedded type or printing with interesting words like drawn and quartered, military, women, and commitment.

A boxed kit with materials, patterns, and instructions to sew either a tailored handbag or smocked (ruched) purse, complete and unused from the early 1960s. The box cover states: "Make Your Own Individual Handbag to Match or Contrast With Your Costume".

Everything is included except for the outer fabric and thread: 8" metal frame with chain handle, leather finish laminated die-cut lining and pocket, printed pattern for smocking, reinforcing stay for bag bottom, and two complete sets of instructions - one for each style of purse. The box has clear tape across the lid and some age/storage wear but the contents are mint and unused. Paperwork is copyrighted 1962 by Bac-A-Brand Products Inc. of New York City.

An assortment of vintage rhinestone and glass buttons in white, clear, blue, and black. The largest is a fan shape shank button with a black enameled diamond shape center and a band of clear rhinestones set into a silvertone metal frame, 1-5/8" across. Seven are faceted glass buttons, six clear and one blue.

There are 33 of the unusual clear lucite-over-plastic shank buttons with gold painted swirls and tiny clear inset rhinestones. Many of the stones are missing or loose. These come in mostly white with seven blue and two black. The rest of the buttons are various sizes and styles (all shank type) with rhinestone centers.

More than 175 unused vintage clothing, sewing, and coat buttons on 65 cards. Twenty-two cards are complete with no buttons missing (83 total on the full cards). The remaining buttons are on partial cards, many have only one missing, some have only one left. In addition, there are two La Mode metal belt buckles mint on their cards. They are in a wide range of colors and sizes including some specialty shapes. I presume most are plastic, some are shell or mother-of-pearl type. Most are American made, I noted some cards marked Italy, Japan, Thailand, Holland, and France.

A vintage wood and brass shuttle. In good, usable condition. Measures 8 in. long and is 3.5 in. wide. Vintage would be from the 1930's-'50's era.  These are two large triangle shaped buttons. The buttons are not marked. They each have three loops on the back. The small button with rhinestones and faux pearls measures 1-1/8 inches in diameter. The larger button has two sizes of rhinestones and measures 1-3/4 inches in diameter. The rhinestones on the buttons are brighter than they appear in my pictures. Both buttons are in good condition but may need cleaning or polishing. I offer a 7-day money back guarantee. All methods of payment are accepted, however, checks must clear before shipping. The buyer is responsible for shipping and handling costs and I am happy to combine shipping for multiple purchases. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for stopping by.  This is a wonderful old lace iron from Dover of the United States. It is a two piece SAD iron. This cut out but complete pattern is a size 16 with bust 34 and Hip 37. It is complete (cut out) but very fragile. I would say it is more a collectible than a usable pattern unless you are a daring sort or could transfer it to a sturdier pattern paper. It comes from Advance circa 1940s. Please choose First Class Postage for this item.  This was my mom’s from at least 1950 or earlier. It is really cute and very vintage in style. There is a lower outer ring section which hold 16 small spools of thread, most wound on wood; names like Bilding Corticelli, Coats & Clark are printed on the spools. Inside this ring is a bin for various sundries like buttons or small scissors. The top for the bin has a lid which holds a red cloth apple for pins. The apple has the cutest strawberry hanging off on a green cord. Overall measurement across is 8 ¼ inches; height of plastic alone is 5 inches, but the pin cushions adds about another 1 ¼ inches. There is a non-displaced crack of about an inch in the lid which you really have to search for, since the pattern on the plastic is busy with flowers and leaves. Buyer to pay for shipping by USPS Priority, with free Delivery Confirmation, 4 lbs. from 06068. #521  A Singer buttonholer dated 1967. For a slant needle machine Pat. number 102577 Great Britain. In original box Appears to be complete. With instruction booklet.  I haven't a clue why I bought this since I deal in jewelry, but I thought it was so neat; and after all the Victorian ladies wore their chatelaines like jewelry.

This chatelaine belt is all handmade. Metal rings that are 7/8" in diameter are crocheted with soft yellow embroidery thread. A mint green ribbon is looped through the rings making a 36" belt which was tied in a bow at the waste leaving part of it hanging which held the accessories.

The beautiful sterling silver thimble holder is reticulated, or openwork, in a floral pattern. The hallmark, with a WC and arrow going through is that of the George Webster Co. of Attleboro, Mass. It dates to the early 1900s. It has a chatelaine loop which was one of the items that hung from the belt. It is monogrammed ML and is apparent it was used for pins.

There is also a hand crocheted piece of wool that was used for needles, and a darling crocheted thimble holder with the original thimble. It is a Simons Bro. Co, with the script S inside a shield on the inside top. Outside it reads Sterling, and is a size 8. It has a very unusual Celtic design around the bottom that is hand stamped. The company was in business and registered in 1842.

I brought this chatelaine along to one of the shows we do and it received a lot of attention even from my jewelry customers. One lady told me she knows a shop in her home town that had a couple of these priced $500 and over, so there must be some out there on the market.

Condition: Being over 100 years old, the ribbon is very fragile and needs to be replaced, which is a very easy fix by the looks of it, just a matter of getting a good match. None of the Sterling pieces have been polished, as it is my custom to leave that to the new owner since once it's gone, you'll need to wait another 100 years to get it back.
