Vintage Sewing: Spools

What's New in the Collector's Showcase of Vintage Sewing: Spools?

Wonderful antique all wood darner in a medium wood color. Measures about 6 inches long, 1 3/4 inches wide and 1 5/8 inches in depth. We don't know what type of wood this is made of. It looks to have been made in two pieces, one for the handle and one for the darner rounded end from the visible line where the handle and darner part meet (if this is two pieces, they are firmly attached to each other).

Terrific vintage used condition with no major flaws -- no large chips, cracks, pieces missing. There is surface wear via many small use scratches, rubbed spots, tiny surface nicks (not large chips), etc. We don't see any cracks but the wood does have natural lines and striations to it so perhaps there may be some tiny lines we are missing as just part of the natural wood, we're not sure. Regardless, there is nothing here to worry about, the piece has a great surface patina with the wonderful aged used look without being "overused".

A nice addition to any collection of sock darners, vintage sewing items or sewing collectibles, or one of great old wooden pieces.

Please note that we have many other sewing, wood and kitchen items listed separately for sale. If you wish to purchase more than one, please e-mail us before placing the order since the shipping information has been inputted for a purchase of just one and will not calculate the savings you would get when purchasing more than one shipped together in the same package (we will need to handle this for you).  Wonderful darning egg that is painted black. What is so great about this one is you can almost see the history of this tool to mend socks. There are a log of needle marks which shows this was used quite a bit. Egg is 6 1/4" long and besides the needle marks is in excellent condition.  Wonderful textile thread tube. Tube is 9 1/2" long. Patina is great.   A set of two textile thread holders with the metal rings on the top. One holder is 9" long, the other is 8" long. Both in excellent shape.

Antique Wood Darner, 6 Inches Length $9.00

Black Darning Egg $12.50

Thread Tube $9.50

Textile Thread Holders $15.50

Wonderful set of four small spools with metal tops. Three are almost 6" tall and the fourth is 7" tall. Patina is excellent, and all are in excellent shape.   The patina on these four holders are fantastic. This would make such a wonderful set of candle holders with all the different heights and widths. Spools range from 14" to 8" in height. Tow are all wooden, one has a metal tip, and one has a metal base. Metal base one does have a crack in the wood at the metal base. Otherwise all are in excellent shape.  Attractive glass tray or dish with colorful paint or enamel distributed by Coats & Clark when celebrating their 150th Anniversary in 1962. The famous thread maker decorated this tray with symbolic pictures from the history of thread use on the topside, with a lengthy written description of the "Story of Thread" along with line drawings on the bottomside. This is where they also placed the Coats & Clark seal and dates.

Rectangular, measuring 9 inches long x 7 inches wide and sitting about 5/8 inch in height. The glass is a dark, clear color which we believe is called "smoke glass", so you can "see through" to the decorations on each side. The rectangular shape actually dips in slightly on the middle of each side to add interest, and curves up slightly from the underpart where it sits to create a slightly flared effect. We've provided several images and close-ups...please note that the white "hot spots" are lighting reflection from the camera on the glossy surface.

Very nice overall condition, but not mint. There is a tiny chip on the underside and side edge near the point in two of the corners, but you don't see these from the topside. There are also a number of tiny scratches, rubbed marks, dots, etc. -- but nothing major that really jumps out at you when you look at the piece on a table. Coloring is still all bright and pretty.

A highly usable piece which would make an interesting addition to any collection of vintage sewing items, or a nice gift for anyone who likes to sew or is a seamstress or tailor.  This is a lot of three wooden spools of thread by Coats and Clark. The first is a dark purple spool of Clark’s ONT boilfast thread from the 40’s or early 50’s. The second is a lovely aqua blue J. P. Coat’s from the 40’s or 50’s. The third spool is a bluish gray Coats and Clark boilfast. Some thread form each of these spools has been used. The end labels are mostly intact. These spools will display very well adding color to your collectibles.

Four Mtal Top Textile Spools $19.50

Set of Four Vintage Thread Holders $35.00

1962 Coats & Clark 150th Anniversary Dec $9.99

This is a wooden spool of American Thread Company Star brand thread from the 1050’s The spool is labeled with a paper label that says Star Mercerized. The paper label from the opposite end is mostly missing. The thread color is a light mint green. The spool is mostly full.

This is a wooden spool of Sears own brand – ACE – thread. This 10o yard spool of beautiful aqua blue thread is nearly full. Both ends are screen printed in blue ink. This product was marketed by Sears from the 30’s to the 50’s.

A rather fun item to add to one's sewing collection. This is a 1920's FLOSSO mending silk with 20 yards-it's never been used. In excellent condition, lovely to decorate with. It measures slightly less than 3 1/2 inches by 2 inches wide. Great display item.

Spool: ATCO Star Brand Thread $5.00

Spool: Sears ACE Thread $5.00

Lovely Old Advertising Silk Floss Wind $10.00
