French Mid Century Modern credenza, circa 1950 to 1960. Measures 74 wide x 20.5 deep x 39 high. Top is veneered in gorgeously figured book matched walnut. Sides are veneered in burl walnut, with distinctive stacked horizontal moldings that continue around to the front. the base is veneered in macassar. This custom made bar is truly a OneofaKind masterpiece. Made from heavy guage stainless steel with a hand hammered copper back plate, solid mahogany bar top and wood paneled front and sides. The hand welding joints are so perfect they are almost invisible. Collett created a cutting edge design with clean lines reminicient of the best vintage Mid Century Modern designs. Made to adjust to any floor. This piece took Collett well over 100 hours to craft. Measures 65.5 inches wide at the top, 47 inches across the front, 26 inches deep overall, and 15.25 inches to the front of the copper front. The two front wood panels each measure 20 .5 x 29.5 inches and the side panels each measure 14.75 x 29.5 inches. Measures 68 inches high, 32 inches wide, 19 inches deep inside and 22 inches outside. This is a rare diminutive size for a period French country cupboard. Hand made with a block plane and joined with wooden pins. Original hardware and key. Frame is 27.25 x 21.75; image is 19.5 x 13.75. Edward Lear,one of the greatest ornithological artists of his era, was a self-taught naturalist and painter who later became famous as a writer of nonsense and limericks. Learıs exacting and masterly skill as an artist was employed by many major publishers of 19th century English ornithologies and natural histories. Born outside London in 1812, Lear was the 20th child of Jeremiah Lear, a London stockbroker. In 1816, Jeremiah went bankrupt, and Edward was raised primarily by his elder sister, Ann, who provided classical studies and taught him to draw from nature. At age 14, Lear began his career as an artist. About 1828, Lear began work as a zoological draughtsman, working with, among other notables, Prideaux John Selby. It was there he also met John Gould, the Societyıs taxidermist, who became one of the great 19th century naturalist publishers.
