high relief shell cameo pin, ca. 1850's - 1890's, carved and depicts a woman in profile and adorned with flowers in her upswept hair. . Shell jewelry was plentiful in the Victorian era and flourished well into the 1860's. Pieces carved in high relief are the most rare and are most sought after by collectors. The red-pink is indicative of the popular color and is rich throughout the carving delicate features. Her 14-karat yellow gold filigree frame has been hand-engraved in pierced deep relief scrolls and can be used as a pin or a brooch.
