Wonderful book written by Gerald Gowitt and published by Schiffer books in April 2002.

The invention of the Argand burner in 1784 propelled a virtual lighting revolution in the first half of the nineteenth century. This highly informative and outstandingly illustrated book showcases the variety of nineteenth century lamps through the use of color photos, old etchings, and period lighting catalogues -- including the only known 1850 Henry N. Hooper and Company Illustrated Catalogue, shown in its entirety. Lighting enthusiasts at every level will find many never-before-published photographs of Argand, sinumbra, and solar lighting devices, along with valuable information on heights, shade ring fitter diameters, and value ranges. Brief histories are provided for some of the better known lighting manufacturers, including Hooper, Dietz, Messenger, and Cornelius. The author also discusses various types of lighting fuel, terminology, how to differentiate reproductions from originals, and where to look for manufacturers' marks. Collectors of lighting and other fine arts from the first half of the nineteenth century will find this an essential reference for many years to come.   Wonderful book written by Gerald Gowitt and published by Schiffer books in April 2002.

bronze sconces  available ini custom sizes and finishes  We purchased these brass kerosene lamps that were converted into very neat sconces by detaching the kerosene lamp base and attaching the base to the side so it could mount on the wall from a restuarant in the 1980's and used them in our home for 20 years. Beautiful. I have several of them and all work. The wiring was done so as not to mess up the wick part of the lamp. The brass body is 10 inches high and 9.5 inches deep. The shade fitter ring with lustered prisms has a diameter of 10 1/8 inches. The green or blue shades with hand painted florals have a height of 7.5 inches whereas the white unpainted shades have a height for 6.5 inches. The lamp chimmney is 10 inches high. Total height with the green shade is 17 inches plus the 3 inches the chimmney rises above the shade. An finial type attachment was added to the base where the base was detached. Very decorative lamp to sconce conversion. You may order the sconce with either the white or the green or blue chimmney. Please check availability before ordering of the shades in relation to the number of sconces you are ordering. $250 each  Nice 7 light amber alabaster chandelier with bronze frame c. 1920

Bead Chain fixtures were the standard ceiling fixture of the American home from the 1920’s through the 1940’s. The decorative glass shade hung from 3 bead chains, and could be adjusted up or down depending on the size of the room and height of the ceiling. The graceful Art Deco design of these fixtures makes them the perfect fit in today's homes.

This vintage 11 inch glass shade has 6 raised ribs with a sort of twist design in crystal against a pink textured background. Price includes both the shade and the mounting hardware in your choice of brushed & lacquered brass or brushed steel. (The steel can be left natural or painted to match your decor.) The bead chains are 6" long so the entire fixture has an adjustable drop from 10 to 16 inches. Make sure to specify which mounting hardware you'd like. Please note: while the glass shade dates to the 1920's - 40's, the mounting hardware is new.

This truly beautiful book presents in text and color photos a factual account of the glass made by the Boston and Sandwich Glass Company during its sixty-three years of production. Each of the 417 photos is large enough to allow you to study the intricate details of glass construction so that you can determine if the glass you hold in your hand was definitely made in Sandwich, Massachusetts. Sandwich collectible in the United States. Keep in mind that the glass factories in Sandwich produced an average of 5,200,000 pieces of finished merchandise each year. Sandwich glass is still available all over the world, unrecognized by the general collector and antiques dealer. This well organized specialized book will give you an advantage., 417 color photos, 9'' x 12'', Index    This figural glass lamp was produced during the 1930's. The color was fired on over clear glass, giving the opaque finish. This style is referred to as the 'Southern Belle' lamp. I have 2 available, both have been re-wired so they work fine. The shade clips on the light bulb. (Bulb not included, I recommend 25 or 40 watt bulbs so the glass doesn't get too hot.) Please specify which you'd like. All are in good shape.
