Last, the granddaughter of the legendary Leadville, Colorado silver king Senator Horace (H.A.W.) Tabor and his wife Baby Doe (Lizzie McCourt) Tabor. The Tabors had two daughters - Lily (called "Baby" herself) and Rose Mary Echo "Silver Dollar." Silver Dollar died a horrific death in Chicago in 1925. Her sister, Lily, married her first cousin John Last III in Chicago and they had three children - Carolyn M. Last, John B. "Jack’ Last, and Jane B. Last. Jane B. Last, the last descendent of the Tabor family died in 2001.

Her estate was sold at auction and among the items was a shoe box of photographs, the book "Star of Blood" by Silver Dollar Tabor and an original music sheet "Our President Rooselvelt’s Colorado Hunt" also by Silver Echo Tabor. You are bidding on the lot of photographs ONLY.

Included in this collection are about 75 original photos including about 32 ea. 4.2" x 6.5" original cabinet cards of Baby Doe herself (2ea), Senator Horace Tabor signed on the back "Grandfather Tabor" (1 ea.), Horace Tabor’s father Cornelius Tabor (1 ea.), Horace Tabor’s mother Sarah Farrin Tabor (1 ea.), Lily Tabor’s husband John B. Last II signed "Dad" (1 ea.), John B. Last’s father John B. Last III signed "John B. Last Dad’s father" (1 ea), Horace and Augusta Tabor’s granddaughter Persis Augusta Tabor (daughter of Nathaniel Maxcy Tabor), Lily "Baby" Tabor infant photos including one with presumably Baby Doe’s penned notation "Baby Tabor Age 14 weeks" (14 ea.), and many other full size cabinet cards of unknown persons. Most of these large 4.2" x 6.5" cabinet cards are undated and most are taken in either Denver, Oshkosh, Wis., Milwaukee, Wis., and Chicago, Il.. I suspect most of these photos are of the Tabor, McCourt, or Last families.

Of equal interest are about 35 smaller 2.5" x 4" cabinet cards. Each of these cards is pen dated on the back with month-day-year. Most of the years are between 1874-1884 with their photographic studios located in Green Bay, Wis., Oshkosh, Wis., Neenah, Wis., Milwaukee, Wisc., Chicago, Ill., and numerous smaller Wisconsin towns. Again I suspect most of these photos are pictures of family members (Tabor, Last, and McCourt), and friends. I do not know if the dates on the back of all of these cards reflect dates pictures were taken, birthdates, or other memorable dates.

There are also a number of ca. 1900 photos of couples including newly married couples photographed in Chicago.

Interesting enough, there are no photos of Echo Silver Dollar Tabor, Lily’s sister. Lily considered her a bad influence on her children and there was no doubt an estranged relationship. Perhaps to the extent of removing her from photographic memory.

These photos will be sold as one lot, and because most of these photos have never been published, I will not provide "clean images" to be copied. Also because most of these images have never been published, the sale of these photographs is FINAL, with absolutely no return privileges.

Also included in this sale from the Jane B. Last estate are original "Star of Blood" book, original "Our President Roosevelt's Colorado Hunt" music sheet, original Premier program of "Silver Dollar" including original "silver dollar" tickets to the Tabor Opera House opening night showing, original newspapers announcing Baby Doe's death, and more. Also included is extensive research material (including copies Tabor, McCourt, and Last family photographs) from Denver, Leadville, Oshkosh museum and library archives, original stereo cards and postcards of Tabor Opera House, Matchless Mine, Leadville scenes, and more.

Most of the cards are in good to very good condition. Photographs are available for viewing in Platteville, Colorado (about 45 minutes from Denver International Airport or downtown Denver.

This is a great gutta percha Union Case. In the interior it states that it is a "Genuine Union Case, Improved. Fine Gilt and Burnished Hinge. Scovill Mf'g Co." The hinges are original. The gutta percha case has rounded corners. It is in very good condition but does have some nicks or chips. It has a shallow chip on the upper left corner of the front cover and a smaller chip (about 1/16 inch) on the lower edge, center front. It also has a a couple of pinhead-size nicks on the edge of the back portion and one shallow nick about 1/4 inches long on the hinge edge of the back.. The interior velvet is in very good condition with one very small patch of missing nap. The case is 3 inches x 2-1/2 inches. The gilt-framed tintype has some tarnish and is 2-1/2 x 2 inches. The picture is of a very stern-looking lady.  This great gutta percha Union Case with ambrotype is in EXCELLENT condition. It was made by Holmes, Booth & Hayden, makers of "Daguerreotype, photographic and ambrotype goods, of every description." The gutta percha case is in excellent, near-mint condition. There is one pinhead-size nick on the edge of the case. The hinges are original. The interior velvet is also in excellent condition. The case is 3 inches x 2-1/2 inches. The gilt interior frame is in excellent conditon and is 2-1/2 x 2 inches. The picture is of a distinguished-looking gentleman. There are a couple of small "splotches" on the ambrotype but the image is dark and clear.   This is a beautiful Victorian celluloid photo album. The vivid burgundy velvet pattern is in excellent condition with minor fraying at one corner. The celluloid inset is close to being perfect. The mirrors do show some wear but could be resilvered. Most of the photo slots contain different groupings of family members in Victorian dress. A few of the pages have some minor tears and minor stains. Overall this is a beautiful Victorian item that would look great on any dresser.  Early, high-quality tintype in tooled leather case measures 3-1/8 inches x 3-5/8 inches. The tintype is in mint condition. The ornate interior frame is in excellent condition. The leather exterior of the case has a few very small worn places along the edges and at the corners. The latch is original, intact and works perfectly. The case is in very good condition. The 1/9 plate image is a very clear picture of a soldier. We think it is an Indian Wars uniform.
