Handmade Brainscombe lace shawl circa 1880s Provenance. This honey silk lace shawl measures 34 by 60 inches. The design elements are organic with large stylized flowers, the roses are 3-d (I have close-up pics with my finger so you can see the dimention and 3-d effect), there are several different types of stitches used so lots of interest, really lovely handwork and design. There are 3 rather light stains that I have pictured, I haven’t washed this piece so they might come out with washing, or lighten more, the shawl is otherwise in very good wearable condition. This lace was part of a collection on exhibit at the Western Reserve Historical Society in Cleveland Ohio in 1945. The collection belonged to a Mrs. A. E Brown and was loaned to the Society for the exhibition. There are some letters on Wade Park Manor stationary to this effect as well as a letter with the historical society letterhead that I will send copies of to the purchaser as well as a list of items from the exhibit.  Handmade Argentan needle lace lappets circa late 1790 to 1800. There are 2 lengths of this lace each measuring 3.5 by 51 inches (that’s 102 inches combined). The design elemts are floral with pretty little flowers inside a lovely cable pattern with tiny little Argentalla filling stitches, note that the mesh is a hexagon covered on each side with teensy little buttonhole stitches; these stitches are so small you need magnification to see them. This is one of the things that make Argentan so collectible and hard to find as it took so much skill and time to make. I have my finget tip in one of the pics as a size reference so you can see just how tiny the needle work is. There are some broken bridges (4 holes in one length and 2 holes in the other) and a few small repairs but over all I would consider this to be in good condition.   Rare cream Chantilly lace Shawl Cape provenance c1865 silk lined. This crean lace and pink silk lined shawl or cape measures 24 inches at the neck, 43 inches in length with the bottom 172 inches. The design elements on the lace are floral with large bouquets of flowers and scrolls. The lace was made in France on a Jaquard Bobbinet loom. There is a repair that I have pictured with my finger for size reference and a small stain, it is otherwise in very good condition. This lace cape or shawl was part of a collection on exhibit at the Western Reserve Historical Society in Cleveland Ohio in 1945. The collection belonged to a Mrs. A. E Brown and was loaned to the Society for the exhibition. There are some letters on Wade Park Manor stationary to this effect as well as a letter with the historical society letterhead that I will send copies of these to the purchaser along with a list of items that were in the exhibit and an actual photo from the exhibit of the shawl and the exhibit card.  Handmade lace and linen tablecloth doily with provenance c1900.
