Annemarie Davidson learned her enameling craft first from the great Doris Hall (1907-2001) in Cambridge, MA in 1957. In California she continued her studies with Curtis Tann. Her combination of geometric and organic form in her designs culminated in her most celebrated abstract designs, her Jewel line which features pieces of glass used to create free-form organic shapes which she calls Jewels. She also uses a sgraffito technique, incising straight lines from the center of her plate with the sharp point of a dart. Now in her late 80s, she no longer produces work today as of 2010 I have been told.

This 7 inch plate, most likely from the 1961-1962 time period, is a good example of an earlier Ghostline piece. This plate features 3 large turquoise blue jewels and 6 smaller cobalt blue jewels, all symmetrically arranged, yet asymmetrically placed on the plate as the whole design is off center. The lines are under the Jewels. A prominent Palm Springs CA dealer James Elliot-Bishop on his website has named this pattern as Ghostline.

The back of the plate still has the three large brown felt pads, the full gold paper label and is signed with her charcteristic AD interwined intiail. Her paper label reads Annemarie Davidson handcrafted enamels Sierra Madre California. Every piece was handcrafted by her alone, from start to finish. There are two tiny areas of some enamel loss to the rim. They are hard to see. One has to look hard to find them. It is in good vintage but not excellent condition, but it sure still looks great on a wall!

The work of Annemarie Davidson was included in the seminal exhibit titled Painting with Fire which opened in Jan 2007 at the Long Beach Museum of Art. She was one of 30 enamelists included with a one page entry on her life and work. Her page is page 266 of the catalogue.  David Gil Coop Design #1202 7 inch teardrop Musician in very early glossy white glaze, with the COOP Man/hand logo partially visible still at the top AND the rectangular Cooperative Design Bennington Vermont mark as well as .99 in black ink. It does not have the rough unglazed rim of the earliest pieces thus I am fairly confident this is a slightly later piece circa 1960. In 1960 most pieces added the words Bennington Potters to the incised mark. I have other designs in this teardrop series which carry the Raymor label.

I recently purchased the same design in white glaze, making it easier to see that the instrument is a clarnet. It is in excellent shape.

I recently learned that when Gil decided to mark his works with shape numbers, he started with the number 1300. However, if an earlier design was to remain in production, they marked it with a number starting with 1200. This explains the numbering and mark on the transition pieces.

They are among the few American studio potteries that turned into production potteries in the midcentury. It evolved into a co-operative of different art potters.

After 1960, they made their bread and butter by making gorgeous modern styled dinnerware that was distributed throughout the US and sold in fine department stores.  Tom Tierney's 1999 Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Paper Dolls by Dover Publishing is a tribute to a remarkable woman. The booklet from contains 7 lifelike dolls of the former First Lady as a child, debutante, White House hostess, young widow, and wife of Aristotle Onassis. Also included are a doll of John F. Kennedy and Onassis. Accompanying the dolls are 27 detailed costumes including her wedding dress, tailored suits and dresses, evening gowns, and casual ensembles. New.  Tom Tierney's Diana, Princess of Wales, Paper Doll: The Charity Auction Dresses by Dover Publishing, was first published in 1997 and is in color. It contains a paper doll and 31 costumes to cut out with notes about the charity auction and outfits. Shortly before her untimely death, Princess Diana donated proceeds from the sales of many of her stunning evening dresses to charity. This spectacular paper doll collection features 31 of the silk, velvet, and satin auctioned garments. A treasure for paper doll collectors and fans of the legendary Princess. New, mint.

Charlotte Whatley's Alice in Wonderland Paper Dolls: Through an All New Looking Glass uses costumes similar to the Disney Tim Burton release in 2010. There's 32 pages of the 16 characters and costume changes including the older Alice, the Mad Hatter, Queens, rabbit, and various characters from Lewis Carrol's books with a modern twist. Prepare to fall down the rabbit hole and plunge through the looking glass again — Alice is getting edgy with this modern paper-doll interpretation. Replete with stunningly original costumes and accessories, these 16 dolls crackle with steampunk style, a creative combination of science fiction, fantasy, and Victorian-and Edwardian-era fashions. This is a vibrant re-imagining of the classic story. Paper dolls and costumes are to be cut out. In color. New, mint.

Done by Lincoln Vermont potter Marcy Mayforth, this is a 1988 dated 10 1/2 inch wide x 4 3/4 inch deep mixing bowl. The design is done in the sgraffito technique, then filled in as in an enamel piece. There are five light and dark blue hanging hearts with the leaves forming a band around the top of the outside neck on the piece, which is signed Mayforth 88 on the bottom. It is in excellent shape. It is a big and practical piece of Vermont Art Pottery by a well-known and well-respected Vermont potter.

Add it to your Vermont Art Pottery or American Studio Pottery collection today.  According to Lehner's book, Nemadji Pottery started in 1922 and is located in Kettle River Minnesota. Each of the two vases stands 3 3/4 inches tall and is made of natural earthen clay and hand painted with various swirls of color. In each vase, chocolate brown, black, orange and green are the prominent colors. They are each well signed and in excellent shape.

Add them to your American Art Pottery or Nemadji collection today. They would look stunning in an Arts and Crafts interior or a country decor.  Here is a whimsical modern stoneware piece from the late David Gil at Bennington Potters in Vermont. started by David Gil in 1948. It is just a bit later than the pre-1960 time period when Gil used a transition mark which included both the words Design Cooperative and Bennington Vermont.

I recently learned that when Gil decided to mark his works with shape numbers, he started with the number 1300. However, if an earlier design was to remain in production, they marked it with a number starting with 1290. This explains the numbering and mark on the transition pieces.

This is a signed and dated Lundberg Studios 1975 paperweight from Davenport, California. Lundberg Studios was founded in 1970 by the late James Lundberg. The body of the paperweight is opal or milk glass which has been satinized. The overlay decoration consists of silver tendrils of flowers whose blossoms are also silver with deep blue centers. The leaves are done in a deep green glass. The asymmetrical placement of the flower seems to be common in early Lundberg Studio pieces.

The piece is numbered 280. It carries as well the initials DS, which is either David or Daniel Salazar. It is a spectacular example of early California Art Glass.
