It is from the post 1964 period when Gil only used the words Bennington Vermont on the back.

Bennington Potters is among the few American studio potteries that turned into production potteries in the midcentury. It evolved into a co-operative of different art potters.

After 1960, they made their bread and butter by making gorgeous modern styled dinnerware that was distributed throughout the US and sold in fine department stores. In their 1964 catalogue, Gil described their creations as "Art Objects in the Practical Realm" - Museum Honored, Hand-crafted, Modestly Priced,"

This oval 8 1/2 wide #1522 Tiger trivet / plaque in a white glaze background with brown highlighting was advertised in the 1964 catalogue as 1522, an ashtray which could also be hung on the wall as a plaque as it had a built-in wire on the back. This piece is shown in the 1964 catalogue as and is titled there Tiger. Its original 1964 price was $2.50.

It features a tiger with tail raised. It is designed as both a ashtray and a plaque. It is signed with the late Bennington Potters mark which only has the words Bennington and Vermont. It does not carry the shape number of the design.

For that, a household needed a container to hold the orange juice.

Here is a7 1/2 inch tall (to the lip of the bottle). decanter decorated with oranges around the bottom of the sides and orange leaves and blossoms around the middle. When the lid is on, it stands almost 8 1/2 inches tall.

I am sure it would look stunning in your retro or Midcentury kitchen. Fill it with iced tea or lemonade if you will.

It is from the 1960-1962 period when Gil included both the words Design Cooperative and Bennington Vermont.

This square 8 inch diameter trivet / plaque was advertised in the 1964 catalogue as 1536, a trivet which could also be hung on the wall as a plaque as it had a built-in wire on the back. This piece is shown in the 1964 catalogue as and is titled there Owl. Its original 1964 price was $3.00. This was designed by Gloria Gil.

It features a pensive Owl at rest. The cobalt and white glazed used for color on this piece pop because the background was unfired.

The back of the trivet/plaque has a wire hanger which was embedded in the pottery. It retains four original rubber feet which protect the flat surface upon which one sets it. It is signed 1534 and has the spark mark on the forearm inside a rectangle made up of COOPERATIVE DESIGN and BENNINGTON POTTERS VERMONT. This is a transition mark used only in the 19690-1962 time period. It is in excellent vintage condition.

Made by the Anchor Hocking Company in the 1960s, the Lido line is yet another of the popular crinkle glassware so prevalent at the time. Like the Morgantown Crinkle line , it features highly textured surface. What distiniguishes the Lido line is that the pattern does not go all the way up to the rim of the glass. It came in colors of Aquamarine, Avocado, Crystal, Honey Gold, Laser Blue, and Spicy Brown.

Anchor Hocking produced the "Milano" pattern from 1959 to 1963. The pattern name was then changed to "Lido" because subsequently the molds were remade by the Zanesville Mold Company in Ohio, a newly acquired Anchor Hocking Corporation subsidiary. The difference between the molds resulted in the `Milano' pattern name changing to "Lido." Although the two patterns are similar, the "Milano" pattern has a distinctive and more defined "crinkle" than "Lido". "Milano" was produced in Forest Green and Crystal only.

In an original catalog for this line, it states "Set a table with sunlight. Glowing gold Lido"!

This N4007 ball jug stands 9 inches tall x 4 inch top diameter and holds 96 ounces. It has an ice lip for easy pouring. It is in the color Anchor Hocking called Honey Gold. Made for cold drinks of ice tea, kool-aid, or lemonade, it is easy to grip and looks great. A practical retro vintage design ready for your kitchen today. Price is for the set.

Here we have a great practical set of retro vintage footed handled mugs. Each mug stands 4 inches tall and holds 10 ounces of liquid.

I love the mod flower power design of this set. On an avocado green background we have turquoise-centered flowers. Each of the petals of the flowers is done using negative space, that is, leaving the white underglaze showing. Funky and artistic both.

The set was most likely made in Japan to be imported into this country. They most likely had a paper label which is long gone. The quality of the china body is amazing. Find a great metal period mug stand and add them to your Mid-century Eames-era Mad Men decor today.

Libbey's Golden Foliage pattern is a classic design of golden leaves on frosted panels, bordered in gold, with a gold top rim. This pattern is shown in Libbey's 1957-1958 catalog. It was discontinued in 1978.

This is a set of 5 Gold Leaf Cocktail/Sherbet goblets by Libbey. Excellent conditon with very little gold loss around the rim if any. No chips or cracks. They stand 4 1/4" tall, 3 1/2" wide, the bowl is 2 1/4" deep and hold 7 ounces. This version of this popular pattern features a frosted background for the Autumn or Gold Leaves. The gold rim is excellent on this set. I don't think they were used much at all.

Talk about retro. Most adults over the age of 40 remember these glasses. I think they were even a premium in detergent boxes or were part of the Green Stamp program!

Go green! Save resources and purchase a piece of America's past. Sturdy, dependable, dishwasher-friendly, it is ready for your kitchen table today.  This Georges Scatchard 4 3/4 inch handled jug is a good example of the work that Scatchard has been doing since the 1960s. The inside of the jug is a dark blue glaze. The outside resembles his standard glaze for which he is known but if you look closely there are some subtle undertones of purple in a few places. His handle is perhaps one of his trademark designs.

This piece is signed on the bottom G. Scatchard and the year 200?. There is some damage to the bottom of the piece. I don't know if it was dropped or was a second. It does not affect how the jug sits on a flat surface.

The outside of the goblet is done in a mottled blue glaze and one can see both inclusions and the horizontal rings from the throwing. A beautiful piece.

Currently located in Underhill, Vermont, Georges Scatchard started from a converted horsebarn with his brother Ted in 1960. An article about the two Scatchard brothers and their ceramics was published in the 1967 Spring issue of Vermont Life on pages 38-42. According to the article, he was the only New Englander to receive a merit award for three items (all pottery) entered in the 1965-1966 New England Craft Council's exhibition for new and emerging craftsmen.

Having recently sold his lamp business, he no longer has an open shop. I am not sure how long one will be able to buy a piece directly from him.

So, go green! Save resources and purchase a piece of the past. Annemarie Davidson learned her enameling craft first from the great Doris Hall (1907-2001) in Cambridge, MA in 1957. In California she continued her studies with Curtis Tann. Her combination of geometric and organic form in her designs culminated in her most celebrated abstract designs, her Jewel line which features pieces of glass used to create free-form organic shapes which she calls Jewels. She also uses a sgraffito technique, incising straight lines from the center of her plate with the sharp point of a dart.

This 7 51/2 inch wide round low dish or bowl, most likely from 1958-1960 time, is unusual for the technique used on this piece. The center red jewels have blue lines laid over them, which is not the same technique that she used later on her more well known Jewels series.

This plate features a central grouping of three deep red jewels surrounded by three sets of three smaller yellow jewels. On her very early pieces, one sees concentric lines around the center of the piece. I have to believe these were intentional as there is a line leading all the way to the edge of the piece. This circular maze type pattern is seen on other very early piece. This would be considered a Grooveline pattern as well though the grooves are hard to see as the overglaze fills them in.

This plate is very similar to the one shown on the cover of the tri-fold brochure for the May 2 - August 15, 2004 exhibit titled The Enamels of Annemarie Davidson. The exhibit was composed of 33 examples of the artist's work and are all in the permanent collection of the Long Beach Museum of Art, 20 of these works were donated directly by Davidson to the museum.

The back of the plate is signed with her charcteristic AD interwined intiails in a very early hand-drawn version which features a later rectalinear D. As well, there is the standard later gold paper with the black line. Every piece was handcrafted by her alone, from start to finish. Excellent condition overall. There is one small spot of the front rim where the enamel has come off, but it is very small and does not detract from the piece. However with that minor damage, I am offering the piece for about what I paid for it.

The work of Annemarie Davidson was included in the seminal exhibit titled Painting with Fire which opened in Jan 2007 at the Long Beach Museum of Art. She was one of 30 enamelists included with a one page entry on her life and work. Her page is page 266 of the catalogue.  Robert Tonner 2013 Shipboard Wedding Marilyn Monroe Doll, No. T13MMDD03 is 16 inches tall and is made of high quality vinyl and hard plastic with the open mouth Marilyn head sculpt; rooted blonde saran hair; painted blue eyes, applied lashes, makeup, and beauty spot; Tyler skin tone; and the Starlet body. Standing 6 1/4 inches tall and holding 12 oz liquid, this group of five 1950s American glass tumblers were known as "zombies" in the catalogue: "fill it up with enough liquoir, drain it and become a zombie?.."

They are a playful go along to any cocktail shaker collection or barware. The screened decorations are in excellent shape. A blue band at top, pink in the middle two bands and green at the bottom contain images of golfers and caddies, both men and women golfers in different positions. The captiion at the bottom states: "Caddy Rumpus". Great Mid-century graphics!

Whimsical and fun, they would look great full of ice tea or something with a little more zip! Price is for the pair.

They are marked RANGE-OVEN-MICROWAVE. They each hold 2 3/4 cups. They are shown on page 24 of Coroneos' 2006 guide titled The Complete Guide to Corning Ware & Visions Cookware.

Katherine Nelson.

From 1937-1939 he was a classmate of Glidden Parker. He had his studio in Burlington Vermont from 1946 -1960 until his untimely tragic death in February 1960.

Produced by Vermont Mid-Century studio potter Stanley Ballard who worked in the Burlington area, this is an unusual shape for Ballard. It carries the shape number 24. The glaze is a turquoise blue glaze which is and shows some of the chocolate brown underglaze at the rim. It is from his later period as there is almost no chocolate brown showing on the bottom rim of the vase. It is in excellent shape.

Bitossi Raymor midcentury 4 piece smoking set. The covered box is marked 43/15 Italy. There is also the price 1.00 on one corner. Amazing! The 8 inch long x 4 inch wide box has two very minor paint flakes on the inside rim of the bottom. The 7 inch tall lighter is signed 43/14. The two 5 inch long x 3 inch wide ashtrays are marked simply ITALY with the standard Bitossi mark.

The design on the set consists of a solid orange with the design on the top of the box, the middle of the lighter, and the bottom of the two ashtrays being interlocking circles and squares, a very geometric pattern. Some of the diamonds thus created are painted in green, yellow, red, and brown but they are done in a random order, very Midcentury in conception.

Made by the Italian firm of Gli Etruschi, known for its playful designs and bright colors. It is in AS IS condition. Please read full description.

This fish stands 4 1/2 inches high x 7 1/4 inches long. The glazes starts at the top in a mustard yellow, then shades or orange, chocolate brown, more orange with a mustard yellow base. The mustard yellow overglaze was poured over the piece created a volcanic or blended glaze which dripped down over the other colors. It is NOT in excellent condition as its tail was broken off and reglued at some time. It would still make a great accent piece in your Midcentury decor.

Add it to your Midcentuy Italian pottery, Raymor, or Fantoni collection today.  Toscany Empoli Tree Bark vase standing 7 inches tall x 4 inches across the top. The vase is signed with a black stamped Made in Italy mark only. The interior of the vase is glazed in a matte brown glaze. The exterior of the vase uses the sgraffito technique to incise knots into the pattern. There are three colored vertical panels repeated three times on the piece. A raised button has been decorated in gold. Black lines have also been added to give it a more naturalistic look. It is in very good vintage condition.

The silver paper label is in the shape of an artist's palette. On it are the words TOSCANY under which the words HAND MADE, HAND DECORATED, and MADE IN ITALY are found. I do not know which company made the vase or if TOSCANY was the importer.  This is a striking Bitossi Italy vase using the very popular sgrafitto popular in the 1950s-1960s from Bitossi as well as some sprigged on two tone leaves. The vase stands 7 1/2 inches tall. This vase is part of the Rosenthal-Netter line of imported Italian pottery and ceramics as it is carries an original paper label.

Also known as Richards Morgenthau & Co., the New York-based company Raymor was a well-known American distributor of modern domestic products, evolving from Russell Wright Accessories, with which the company's founder, Irving Richards, had been linked since 1935. The company's range included designs by Gilbert Rohde, Donald Deskey, Walter Dorwin Teague, Ray and Charles Eames, George Nelson, and Eva Zeisel. In the post-Second World War period Raymor also imported modern Scandinavian and Italian designs, including work by Arne Jacobsen, Tapio Wirkaala, Hans Wegner, Ettore Sottsass, the Bitossi designers Aldo Londi, and Alvino Bagni. Bitossi designed a wide range of ceramics in the late 1950s and 1960s for the Raymor importing company.

The body of the vase is done in what I call Aldo Londi's Bark or Earth background in which the chocolate brown body of the clay is glazed with a clear glaze to contrast the vivid colors Londi loved to use. It seems that the Rosenthal-Netter line was a brighter toned line than the Raymor Line. One sees a lot of yellows and oranges on the Rosenthal-Netter line.

This particular vase is from a line called in Italian Foglie Colorate Applicate (Applied Colored Leaves). This particular line was produced from 1960 to around 1970. It features five sprigged on two-tone abstract stylized leaves done in that very popular style of the 1950s. The stems of the flowers of leaves have been incised into the body by the sgraffito technique so beloved by Londi.

In addition to the original paper Rosenthal-Netter black and white paper label, there is also an original factory label with carries the stock number 240/3 and the words Made in Italy.

This vase is valued at over 100 pounds in Mark HIll's recent book on Mid-century Italian pottery.

The piece is in excellent condition and would be a star addition to any Raymor Bitossi Londi collection.  Here is a whimsical modern stoneware piece from the late David Gil at Bennington Potters in Vermont. started by David Gil in 1948. It is from the 1959-1960 period when Gil included both the words Design Cooperative and Bennington Vermont.

This square 8 inch diameter trivet / plaque was advertised in the 1964 catalogue as 1535, a trivet which could also be hung on the wall as a plaque as it had a built-in wire on the back. This piece is shown in the 1964 catalogue as and is titled there Eggs. Its original 1964 price was $3.00. I recently learned that the six 8 inch square flat tiles were all designed by Gloria Gil, David's first wife with whom he started the company in 1948.

It features 6 eggs in various stages. Done in an abstract stylized manner, the eggs are molded in relief and the incised areas are glazed in a very dark green and dark gray.

The back of the trivet/plaque has a wire hanger which was embedded in the pottery. It retains all four original rubber feet which protects the flat surface upon which one sets it. It is signed 1535 and has the spark mark on the forearm inside a rectangle made up of COOPERATIVE DESIGN and BENNINGTON POTTERS VERMONT. It is in excellent vintage condition.

Bennington Potters is among the few American studio potteries that turned into production potteries in the midcentury. It evolved into a co-operative of different art potters.

After 1960, they made their bread and butter by making gorgeous modern styled dinnerware that was distributed throughout the US and sold in fine department stores.

The pattern is also shown on page 177 of the Bredehoft Second Edition book and listed there as having a value of $40. I have priced this toothpick holder considerably under that price as I bought it very reasonably.
