Standing 4 1/4 inches tall, this Noritake Art Deco figural flower frog depicts a red bird. The stump with the six openings for flower stems is done in Noritake's classic blue luster. The bill is black as are is the eye mask. The irises are yellow. The feet are black. It is marked with the standard MADE IN JAPAN mark. I guarantee it to be Noritake.

It is in excellent vintage condition. Add it to your Noritake, Art Deco or bird inspired collection today.  This Noritake Art Deco bud vase stands 4 1/4 inches tall. It is a fairly common shape with a great Deco Noritake design which maximizes stands out nicely on a blue lustre background. The design of a red Spanish Galleon with billowing tan luster sails sailing on a black sea with green highlights. The base is done in a purple color with black tendrils. The top inside is tan luster. The design and the rim are outlined in bold black, a standard Noritake Deco technique.

It is signed with the "Made in Japan" mark in green putting it in the transtition period between older Nippon and the 1925-1931 red wreath mark period. It is in very good vintage condition. It is shownon page 204 in V.487 of the 2004 David Spain book titled Art Deco Noritake & More, A Photographic and Historical Record.

Add it to your Noritake Art Deco collection today.  Measuring 7 1/2 inches long x 4 1/2 inches wide, this stunning and gorgeous Noritake low dish is from the 1925-1931 period and pure Art Deco. The Noritake company produced wares for export for the American market based on popular designs of the era.

The two blossoms are stylized and painted with bold black outlines and flat areas of color for their petals. They are NOT realistic. I like the fact that both blossoms have different color centers. What is also very avant garde for the time period is how the flowers are placed in the design. They are not completely shown as well as being asymmetrically placed. On one edge there is a red and white triangle design as well. Very Art Deco.

It is signed with the blue cherry blossom mark on the bottom. It is in excellent vintage condition.

Add this Japanese Noritake Art Deco masterpiece to your Art Deco collection today.  This great example of the Art Deco sensibilities of the Noritake mold makers and decorators is amazing. Although the practical utilitarian purpose for this dish is as a lemon slice server for tea, the design vaults it into a totally different category as an art object.

Measuring 7 inches long x 6 1/4 inches wide, this could hold a lot of lemon slices.

What is really striking about this piece is the restraint with which the decorators designed it. The bold back outlines on the figural berry and leaf handle draw the eye, but it is the touch of mint green under the black handle which pops. Noritake Art Deco pieces with figural elements have been popular for a long time. This is a great example of this technique.

It is signed on the back with the standard Green Wreath Noritake mark. Add it to your Noritake Art Deco collection today.

This large Noritake Nippon cake plate measures 9 1/2 inches across from the tip of the handle to the other handle. It is a standard Noritake shape, but it is unusual to see it NOT signed with the post-1921 Noritake mark but with lesser known green cherry mark. I would place this piece in the 1925-1930 time period as it is an interesting mix of Victorian flowers with the scarce pearl luster. The most interesting part of the decoration is on the rim where the use of negative space creates designs in white which is really the underglaze. Notice the way the flowers start in the blue luster rim and continue onto the pearl luster center ground.

It is very practical and functional piece of china and is ready for your holiday table. The three floral cartouches are all hand-painted.

It is in fair vintage shape. One can see a good amount of wear on the center ground when one tips the plate to the light. No chips or cracks though. Add it to your Nippon or Noritake collection today.  This Noritake Deco 6 1/4 inch wide lemon server has a great look! It is one of the most stylized Noritake designs I have seen.

The contrast of the primary colors of yellow and red is striking. The wild red, green, and black leaves with black outlines on the outside and cobalt blue outlines on the inside add unity to the piece and highlight the asymmetrically placed white blossoms .The piece is in excellent vintage condition. Red wreath mark in very good condition.

I guarantee this piece to be Noritake Art Deco.

I was a long time member of the Noritake Collectors Society (www.noritakecollectors.com). Come read about our great club, our newsletter and consider joining us in our appreciation and pursuit of Noritake!  The Noritake Company produced and exported thousands of items in hundreds of designs to the United State between 1921-1935. They had a design office in New York City where current design sources would be used to send ideas to Japan for the Noritake decorators to use. One of the most highly collected periods of Noritake production is from the 1921 - 1935 Art Deco period.

They are renowed worldwide for their dinnerware but had a whole division focused on what was then called "fancyware", items for household consumption decorated artistically. Though very reasonable in price when first sold, they are now collected by both collectors in the Western world as well as in Japan.

This octagonal bowl measures 7 1/4 inches in diameter. It stands 2 inches tall at the handle. It has two tab handles and one can see that the mold from which it came had some in relief scrolls at the rim. The entire rim of the bowl is decorated in 24 K gold. The three large clusters of flowers are placed asymmetrically on the plate, a revolutionary idea at the time. Another Art Deco common feature was the stylization of nature. The flowers and leaves are NOT painted in a realistic manner but are abstract and stylized.

Another Art Deco common feature was the use of what are called speed lines, which featured three lines in the bands which contrast from the geometric nature of the plate shape.

Noritake is well known for its luster glazes, the most common of which is tan luster. Their less common luster glazes are gold, silver, green, pearl, and yellow luster (also spelled lustre sometimes).

This bowl has only tan luster on it but it uses scarce colors of orange and crimson in the paint. It is in very good vintage condition with some very slight wear in the center but no loss of luster. The green Noritake Wreath mark indicates production between 1921-1925. Later the mark was in red.

Standing 3 1/2 inches tall, this Noritake Art Deco figural flower frog depicts what to me seems like a kingfisher (serious birder here). The stump with the five openings for flower stems is done in Noritake's classic tan luster. The back and head of the bird are done in blue luster. The bill is black as are the pupils. The irises are yellow with a purple band through the eye. The feet are black. It is marked with the standard MADE IN JAPAN mark. I guarantee it to be Noritake.

A very similar figurine is shown on page 172 of David Spain's 1999 Collecting Noritake A to Z book and is valued there at $260-290. As I bought this very reasonably my price is much lower.

It is in excellent vintage condition. Add it to your Noritake, Art Deco or bird inspired collection today.  This cute little fellow is a pin dish made by the Noritake Company in the 1935-1931 time period. One can see it pictured in plate D.236 on page 130 of David Spain's 2004 Art Deco Noritake & More book. this particular example has a white dog with red mouth and black nose and facial features. The tray part of the dish is the harder-to-find Noritake yellow luster and the rim is done in matte black paint, a typical Noritake Art Deco treatment.

It is in excellent condition. It is signed with the standard green Wreath mark. Add it to your Noritake collection today. In Spain's book, it is valued at $100-$180 but my price is much lower as I bought it extremely reasonably last summer.  This Noritake Art Deco 7 3/4 inch wide tab handled plate features a very Art Deco sensibility. The main design is placed at the edge of the plate, creating asymmetricality and giving movement to the piece. That is aided by the tendril like white curving lines which flow across the piece. In fact, these are areas from which the typical blue luster glaze has been removed, thus negative space.

The central blossom measures almost 2 1/2 inches by itself. Black lines radiate out of the center. The blue center is surrounded by give green circles, surrounded by give yellow petals, surrounded by six white and orange petals. There are four other partial blossoms, suing orange, blue, pink, yellow, purple and green tones.

Gold rimmed, it is signed with the blue Cherry Blossom mark, which is a Noritake Company mark. As I picked this piece up reasonably, so have I priced it.

Come read about this great club, the newsletter and consider joining them in their appreciation and pursuit of Noritake!  Measuring 10 inches wide from handle to handle, this green wreath mark Noritake cake plate is stunning. It features the classic blue luster on the rim with gold at the outermost rim. It has cut out handles. In the middle is a classic Japanese scene but done in a bold Art Deco style and coloration. A pagoda or temple sits to the left connected by a bridge. Clarice Cliff like abstract trees at right, a black truned tree grows out of vegatation at the bottom of the plate. 24 karat gold, black and orage are the primary colors. The use of negative space is very Art Deco. It is in excellent condition. Add it to your Noritake Art Deco collection today.

This Noritake Art Deco stands 6 1/4 inches tall. It is a fairly common and simply Noritake design which maximizes the abstract and stylized floral design of three blue blossoms into a checkered pattern which is created by simple black lines on a slight yellow luster background. The standard tan luster is at the top rim which is trimmed in black.

It is signed with the green wreath mark putting it in the transtition period between older Nippon and the 1925-1931 red wreath mark period. I would think it was from the 1920-1925 period as the blossoms are more Art Deco than done in a realistic manner.

There is some paint loss on each of the flowers (see pics), Strangely, it is only from the green paint on the leaves as the blues are fine. All in all, though not in perfect condition, it's a very usable and practical piece of Noritake you can use every day for some fresh flowers or silk flowers. Add it to your collection today.  Produced by the Noritake Company for export to the United States market, this Art Deco bonbon dish meaures 6 1/2 inches across and stands 1 1/4 inches tall. This is a really great example of the lustre ware that Noritake mastered and used. The most striking part of the dish is the pearl luster band between the black rim band and the central motif of a red blossom with highly stylized and unnaturally colored leaves. I particulary like the geometric background behind the flower. It all adds up to a great Art Deco Noritake item! It is signed with the cherry blossom mark and Made in Japan.

It is in excellent vintage condition. Add it to your Art Deco or Noritake collection today.  This great example of Deco Noritake is simply stunning! It is shown on page 113 of Spain's book Noritake Collectibles A to Z as plate B.154. It measures 2.88 inches high and 6 1/2 inches wide. It featues mother of pearl luster on the central ground which is in a five point star shape which is highlighted by a green luster color separated by black highlighting lines. The bold black branch in the middle has light deco lines to it. The yellow and pink blossom are done in an abstract manner, highly stylized. What makes this piece a bit more unusual than other Noritake Deco compotes is the fact that the buds of the flowers are actually in relief! It is simply a great combination of form and function. It is signed with the green cherry blossom mark. Add it to your Noritake collection today. Although the book value listed is $60-80, my price is much lower as I bought it reasonably.  This exact Noritake Deco slanted cheese dish is shown on page 205 of Spain's first Noritake book. It measures 4 3/4 inches high x 8 inches wide x 6 inches deep. It has the green cherry mark backstamp. What is really wonderful about this piece is the very Deco abstract stylized big floral decoration. Another unusual aspect to this piece is the very bright green color used for the leaves. The body is tan luster and the trim is the classic blue luster. There is a scratch mark to one of the tan sides but not deep enough to show the white underbody. There is some to be expected wear on the handle where one would pick it up. However, the blue tulip and large orange and red flower are stunning! Spain priced it at $80-$100 in his 1997 book. I bought it reasonable and am selling it that way, thus the fair price. The paint and luster are in excellent shape.

This red wreath mark signed Noritake Art Deco baluster shape vase in shown in David Spain's First book as plate V44 on page 263. 10 inches high, it features a very realistic yellow bird on the stem of a large yellow abstract stylized flower. What is most unusual about this vase is the use of the hard to find green luster background. Excellent condition.

The central area of the plate has a mother-of-pearl luster background. A bold iris like purple and blue abstract blossom is in the lower half with a 4 petal orange tulip flower coming up from behind. Notice the tension between the asymmetrical tulip and leaves and the symmetrical orange and yellow bands at the bottom. Marked with the red cherry blossom mark, it is a very nice piece of Noritake's artistry from the 1921-1935 time period. It is in excellent condition.

I have sold a jam set with this exact decoration. I cannot find it listed in the four books I have on Noritake. I think it was inspired by a European pattern as the green cross-hatching of the border and yellow scroll are not typical of Noritake's Deco work. IN excellent condition with vibrant forest green, yellow, orange colors on the central floral motif, all outlined in bold black! Would look great on a wall in your country kitchen!
