Noritake 1925-1925 9 inch square tan luster border Cornucopia cut out handles:

Priced at just $25 in my Booth 17 at 5 Corners Antiques, here is a lovely example of the Art Deco china the Noritake Company of Nagoya Japan was making specifically for export to foreign markets. It carries the red wreath mark indicating it was made in the 1925-1935 time period. The bowl is 9 inches wide and stand 1 1/2 inches tall. It features tan luster around the rim with 2 cut out handles. It is a great Art Deco design.

The Noritake Company produced and exported thousands of items in hundreds of designs to the United State between 1921-1935. They had a design office in New York City where current design sources would be used to send ideas to Japan for the Noritake decorators to use. One of the most highly collected periods of Noritake production is from the 1921 - 1935 Art Deco period.

They are renowed worldwide for their dinnerware but had a whole division focused on what was then called "fancyware", items for household consumption decorated artistically. Though very reasonable in price when first sold, they are now collected by both collectors in the Western world as well as in Japan.

Excellent condition. Add it to your Noritake Art Deco collection today  Standing 4 1/4 inches tall, this Noritake Art Deco figural flower frog depicts a red bird. The stump with the six openings for flower stems is done in Noritake's classic blue luster. The bill is black as are is the eye mask. The irises are yellow. The feet are black. It is marked with the standard MADE IN JAPAN mark. I guarantee it to be Noritake.

It is in excellent vintage condition. Add it to your Noritake, Art Deco or bird inspired collection today.  This Noritake Art Deco bud vase stands 4 1/4 inches tall. It is a fairly common shape with a great Deco Noritake design which maximizes stands out nicely on a blue lustre background. The design of a red Spanish Galleon with billowing tan luster sails sailing on a black sea with green highlights. The base is done in a purple color with black tendrils. The top inside is tan luster. The design and the rim are outlined in bold black, a standard Noritake Deco technique.

It is signed with the "Made in Japan" mark in green putting it in the transtition period between older Nippon and the 1925-1931 red wreath mark period. It is in very good vintage condition. It is shownon page 204 in V.487 of the 2004 David Spain book titled Art Deco Noritake & More, A Photographic and Historical Record.

Add it to your Noritake Art Deco collection today.  Measuring 7 1/2 inches long x 4 1/2 inches wide, this stunning and gorgeous Noritake low dish is from the 1925-1931 period and pure Art Deco. The Noritake company produced wares for export for the American market based on popular designs of the era.

The two blossoms are stylized and painted with bold black outlines and flat areas of color for their petals. They are NOT realistic. I like the fact that both blossoms have different color centers. What is also very avant garde for the time period is how the flowers are placed in the design. They are not completely shown as well as being asymmetrically placed. On one edge there is a red and white triangle design as well. Very Art Deco.

It is signed with the blue cherry blossom mark on the bottom. It is in excellent vintage condition.

This Noritake Deco 6 1/4 inch wide lemon server has a great look! It is one of the most stylized Noritake designs I have seen.

The contrast of the primary colors of yellow and red is striking. The wild red, green, and black leaves with black outlines on the outside and cobalt blue outlines on the inside add unity to the piece and highlight the asymmetrically placed white blossoms .The piece is in excellent vintage condition. Red wreath mark in very good condition.

I guarantee this piece to be Noritake Art Deco.

This octagonal bowl measures 7 1/4 inches in diameter. It stands 2 inches tall at the handle. It has two tab handles and one can see that the mold from which it came had some in relief scrolls at the rim. The entire rim of the bowl is decorated in 24 K gold. The three large clusters of flowers are placed asymmetrically on the plate, a revolutionary idea at the time. Another Art Deco common feature was the stylization of nature. The flowers and leaves are NOT painted in a realistic manner but are abstract and stylized.

Another Art Deco common feature was the use of what are called speed lines, which featured three lines in the bands which contrast from the geometric nature of the plate shape.

Noritake is well known for its luster glazes, the most common of which is tan luster. Their less common luster glazes are gold, silver, green, pearl, and yellow luster (also spelled lustre sometimes).

This bowl has only tan luster on it but it uses scarce colors of orange and crimson in the paint. It is in very good vintage condition with some very slight wear in the center but no loss of luster. The green Noritake Wreath mark indicates production between 1921-1925. Later the mark was in red.

Add it to your Art Deco or Noritake Art Deco collection today.   Standing 3 1/2 inches tall, this Noritake Art Deco figural flower frog depicts what to me seems like a kingfisher (serious birder here). The stump with the five openings for flower stems is done in Noritake's classic tan luster. The back and head of the bird are done in blue luster. The bill is black as are the pupils. The irises are yellow with a purple band through the eye. The feet are black. It is marked with the standard MADE IN JAPAN mark. I guarantee it to be Noritake.

A very similar figurine is shown on page 172 of David Spain's 1999 Collecting Noritake A to Z book and is valued there at $260-290. As I bought this very reasonably my price is much lower.

It is in excellent vintage condition. Add it to your Noritake, Art Deco or bird inspired collection today.  Measuring 10 inches wide from handle to handle, this green wreath mark Noritake cake plate is stunning. It features the classic blue luster on the rim with gold at the outermost rim. It has cut out handles. In the middle is a classic Japanese scene but done in a bold Art Deco style and coloration. A pagoda or temple sits to the left connected by a bridge. Clarice Cliff like abstract trees at right, a black truned tree grows out of vegatation at the bottom of the plate. 24 karat gold, black and orage are the primary colors. The use of negative space is very Art Deco. It is in excellent condition. Add it to your Noritake Art Deco collection today.

Produced by the Noritake Company for export to the United States market, this Art Deco bonbon dish meaures 6 1/2 inches across and stands 1 1/4 inches tall. This is a really great example of the lustre ware that Noritake mastered and used. The most striking part of the dish is the pearl luster band between the black rim band and the central motif of a red blossom with highly stylized and unnaturally colored leaves. I particulary like the geometric background behind the flower. It all adds up to a great Art Deco Noritake item! It is signed with the cherry blossom mark and Made in Japan.

It is in excellent vintage condition. Add it to your Art Deco or Noritake collection today.  This exact Noritake Deco slanted cheese dish is shown on page 205 of Spain's first Noritake book. It measures 4 3/4 inches high x 8 inches wide x 6 inches deep. It has the green cherry mark backstamp. What is really wonderful about this piece is the very Deco abstract stylized big floral decoration. Another unusual aspect to this piece is the very bright green color used for the leaves. The body is tan luster and the trim is the classic blue luster. There is a scratch mark to one of the tan sides but not deep enough to show the white underbody. There is some to be expected wear on the handle where one would pick it up. However, the blue tulip and large orange and red flower are stunning! Spain priced it at $80-$100 in his 1997 book. I bought it reasonable and am selling it that way, thus the fair price. The paint and luster are in excellent shape.

This triangular shaped bowl measures a little over 7 inches in diameter. It features 3 cut out handles and a bank of green luster with black rim. The central area of the plate has a mother-of-pearl luster background. A bold iris like purple and blue abstract blossom is in the lower half with a 4 petal orange tulip flower coming up from behind. Notice the tension between the asymmetrical tulip and leaves and the symmetrical orange and yellow bands at the bottom. Marked with the red cherry blossom mark, it is a very nice piece of Noritake's artistry from the 1921-1935 time period. It is in excellent condition.

I am a long time member of the Noritake Collectors Society.  This Noritake Deco VP 771 motif griffin cup & saucer set is wild! It's exact design is shown on p. 130 of Van Patten Second Series as Plate #771. There is a also a stylized "fleur-de-lis" in the center of the plate, which is flanked by two mythological griffin type birds. Red wreath mark. The underplate is unsigned as was typical with these multi-piece sets. This is also the part of the set which is often missing. It is in excellent condition.

This cute little perfectly Art Deco piece of Noritake is most likely a portable individual ashtray. The shape is shown as A.171 on p. 47 of Spain's third book. I think the decoration of this tan luster ashtray is even nicer.

This piece is done is the style of many of the English pieces of the time. The color palette of oranges, yellow, purples will be familiar to collectors of Carlton for example.

In excellent shape, this piece would look lovely with some hard candy or bonbons on it, nestled next to some Chintz!
