There is also a trail of chickens heading toward a woman (probably the mother) and another little child. The outside edge of the plate is ivory and the outer embossed edge is trimmed in gold. Currier & Ives China, Whetstone Point, Baltimore, Md, Delano Studios
Attractive china, ceramic or pottery plate (this piece is not porcelain as it is not translucent) with central transfer decor showing a port scene of Baltimore, Maryland near Whetstone Point, Maryland. This plate is fully marked on the underside as being a Currier and Ives Reproduction from their Americana Series. It was made by Delano Studios of Setauket, New York for Sun Glo Studios, with this also marked on the underside base. Round white china plate with scalloped edge having a molded raised decor around the outer band with lines, scrolls, cross-hatching and dots. Lower interior center has multi-colored transfer graphic in greens, grays, blue and tan/beige. Scene shows what we believe to be the port in Baltimore with small buildings in the background, sailing ships in the harbor, and green grass with animals grazing, cows and steers, in the foreground. Vintage plate measures about 10 inches in diameter and sits 3/4 inch in height. We've provided 5 images, including front, back, close-ups of the interior graphic, molded border edging and mark. Please note that the white hot spots are lighting reflections on the glossy surface. The lighting blands out the central graphic a bit...the colors are brighter, richer and bolder in person than they appear in the images. Lovely overall condition with no chips, cracks or crazing but not mint. On close examination, there are a few tiny flakes on the outer edge, not chips but tiny flat worn spots on the glazed surface. There are some pin/pit dots, tiny black or transfer dots, and a few small scratches and a few small flat rubbed/worn spots on the interior graphic, nothing that jumps out at you but if you look closely at an angle in bright light you will see these scratches and spots. In the white pottery border around the central graphic (before the molded design outer band) on the right top side there is a small black slanted line about 1/4 inch in length. This is fully under the glazing so we don't know if this is a tiny hairline or just a stray line/transfer line on the pottery. On the backside there are some round spots where the glazing was imperfectly applied in manufacture and a bit of expected wear/darkening on the underside rim on which the piece sits. Nothing bad here at all and nothing that detracts from the great look on display, but if you look closely you'll see these imperfections and should know they are there. A terrific piece to add to any Currier & Ives collection or a nice addition for any collection of items related to Maryland overall and Baltimore in specific. Would make a nice gift for a Baltimore history buff.
Vintage Plate, Currier and Ives, The Homestead in Winter, Harkerware, U.S.A. (Harkerware went out of business in 1972.) This pretty dessert dish measures 6 1/4 across. The picture in the center is painted against an ivory background and consists of a large A-frame country home in the snow, with a horse and carriage going by, and a man carrying a load of wood to the home, followed by his dog. His wife is standing by the back door waiting for him. The outside edge of the plate is ivory and the outer embossed edge is trimmed in gold. The plates show very minor signs of use and are in very good condition. They have the Harkerware U.S.A. mark.

Age toning on the back of print. Print is marked along the bottom edge, hidden behind the frame. TITLED: THE OLD WATER MILL. Numbered: 235 COPYRIGHT 1895 BY MULLER LUCHSINGER & CO., NEW YORK. Is Signed: Chandler. in the lower right hand corner. Nice hues in this picture, was stored away from light. Colors of various greens, blues, grays, browns, yellows, and of course red in the little girls coat. AND lovely white hues because it is a winter scene. Great landscaping scene of an old water mill in the front area. In the background you cansee a home, roofs covered up in snow. A victorian woman and a little girl are taking a walk alongside the mill. Great hues of the setting sun which left streaks of sunlight yet in the overcase sky. Wonderful classic scene if you like to collect winter white snow scenes. ARTIST'S BIOGRAPHY: William Henry Chandler (1854 - 1928) Chandler is widely credited as being America's Foremost Pastel Artist. Living in New Jersey and working from his studios in New York City Chandler probably produced more original pastel art than any other known pastel artist. A deeply religious man, Chandler created primarily landscape scenes, but also produced a fine assortment other fruit and dead game still lives, seascapes, and occasionally some foreign scenes as well. Most Chandler pastels were signed **Chandler**, frequently Chandler pastels left the studio unsigned. Often when sold in pairs, only one pastel of the pair would be signed. Chandlers work became of interest in late 1980 and since value of his work is going up every year. Between 1887-1903, William Henry Chandler's work was produced as color or chromolithograph prints by such publishers as Hallen and Weiner (NY), Joseph Hoover (Phila), and Mueller and Lucksinger Co. (NY). His work appeared as machine-produced prints in the Taber-Prang Art Catalog as well. Art prints were often 15x20 in size, although many were cropped over the years to fit into specific frames. Calendar prints and other print forms were usually produced in a multitude of sizes. Although Chandler is becoming well known for his original pastels, he is also gathering quite a following for his original prints due to the fact that many original prints did not survive without damage or were discarded over the years due to their original low price. The Art of William Henry Chandler Starting around 1887 Chandler began producing his original art as an alternative to the larger-scale print runs of Currier & Ives, Taber-Prang, and other major print-makers of the time. Chandler operated under the trade name of **W.H. Chandler and Co.** in New York City's Lower Manhattan, a business that he ran with his brother, Frank Chandler (1857-1912). William Chandler was responsible for creating the original art while Frank was responsible for the framing, packing, shipping, and at times, for retail and wholesale art sales.
