America's Rifle: The M1 Garand, Special Collector's Edition Dvd
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. This one hour documentary covers in-depth the history of the M1 rifle that served the US Armed Forces from 1936 to 1957 and beyond. It was the standard issue infantry rifle of WWII, and it was a masterwork of genius and simplicity. Fighting men called this trusty rifle by its field name the M1. And it was also known to friend and foe alike by its inventor's name -- the Garand. It was one of the most widely produced rifles in American history, totaling five and a half million. The M1 Garand was a groundbreaking rifle --an 8-shot semi-auto that combined ingenuity, industrial mass production and firepower into a single, solidly-built infantry weapon. At 9 1/2 pounds of wood and steel, the M1 Garand helped turn the United States into a superpower. Today, as was the case from its earliest prototype, the M1 Garand is a versatile rifle. Whether it is taken out on the range or sits behind glass in a museum, the M1 Garand can truly be called America's Rifle. Rare archival footage, first person accounts by combat veterans, state of the art animations and expert interviews combine to give a comprehensive look at one of America's most successful infantry weapons. BONUS FEATURES Over 65 minutes of bonus material Additional interview excerpts from Medal of Honor recipient Hector Cafferata, who used his M1 to halt a Chinese attack on the Marines at the Chosin Reservoir, one of the fiercest firefights of the Korean War Disassembly and assembly of the M1 Garand History show and tell of the evolution of the M1 bullet M1 Garand range time An inert rifle grenade demonstration TOTAL RUNNING TIME: 2 HOURS, 20 MINUTES

Weapon 19: The Webley Service Revolver By: Robert Maze
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The Webley .455in service revolver is among the most powerful top-break revolvers ever produced. First adopted in 1887, in various marques it was the standard-issue service pistol for British and Commonwealth armed forces for nearly fifty years; later versions in .38in calibre went on to see further service in World War II and beyond, as well as in a host of law-enforcement roles around the world into the 1970s. Developed to give British service personnel the ability to incapacitate their opponents in small wars around the globe, the Webley used the formidable - and controversial - .455in cartridge, a variant of which was known as the manstopper . Users found it offered good penetration and excellent stopping power with only mild recoil - indeed, it was rated superior to the US .45 Colt in stopping power. Featuring specially commissioned full-colour artwork and close-up photographs, this is the compelling story of the Webley revolver, the powerful pistol that saw service across the British Empire and throughout two world wars.

Weapon 15: The Browning Automatic Rifle (Development, Use, Impact) By: Robert R. Hodges Jr
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. For nearly fifty years the hard-hitting, mobile Browning Automatic Rifle, or BAR, served in US infantry units as a light squad automatic base of fire weapon, providing quick bursts of concentrated fire. Designed in World War One, it didn't reach the front until September 1918. In the interwar years US forces used the BAR across the world, from China to Nicaragua. It also became a favorite of notorious gangsters like Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker, who prized its ability to punch through police armored cars. At the outset of World War II the US armed forces decided to adapt the BAR for a light machine gun role. The BAR was not without its flaws; it was heavy and difficult to dismantle and reassemble, and it didn't cope well with sustained fire. Nevertheless, the BAR saw action in every major theater of World War II and went on to be used in Korea and in the opening stages of the Vietnam War. Featuring arresting first-hand accounts, specially drawn full-color artwork and close-up photographs, many in color, this lively study offers a vivid portrait of this powerful, long-lived and innovative weapon that saw service with US and other forces across the world for much of the 20th century.

Weapon 22: The Sten Gun By: Leroy Thompson
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The Sten submachine gun - officially the Carbine, Machine, Sten - was developed to fulfill the pressing British need for large quantities of cheaply produced weapons after Dunkirk, when German invasion was a very real possibility. Over four million were built during World War II, and the Sten was widely used by airborne troops, tankers, and others who needed a compact weapon with substantial firepower. It proved especially popular with Resistance fighters as it was easy to conceal, deadly at close range, and could fire captured German ammunition - with a design so simple that Resistance fighters were able to produce them in bicycle shops. Featuring vivid first-hand accounts, specially commissioned full-colour artwork and close-up photographs, this is the fascinating story of the mass-produced submachine gun that provided Allied soldiers and Resistance fighters with devastating close-range firepower.

Weapon 16: The M1 Garand (Development, Use, Impact) By: Leroy Thompson
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The M1 Garand gave the US infantryman a marked edge during World War II. It shot faster and further than enemy infantry rifles and hit harder. No less an authority on killing the enemy than General George S. Patton called the Garand, The greatest battle implement ever devised. At a time when opposing forces were armed with bolt-action rifles, US troops had a highly reliable self-loader. The eight-round clips which were used to load the M1 Garand were, however, viewed with mixed emotions by the troops on the ground. Some Army and Marine Corps troops allegedly felt that the distinctive twang as the Garand's clip was ejected when empty alerted the enemy that the soldiers were reloading and resulted in an attack. But the Garand became the defining mankiller of the war, despite its weight and magazine problems, and many US combat veterans consider it one of the key reasons they survived the war.

The M60 Machine Gun By: Kevin Dockery
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The US M60 General Purpose Machine Gun, known as the Pig, was developed in the years after World War II from two revolutionary German designs. Adopted in 1957, the M60 came into its own in the jungles, hamlets, and city streets of Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. Humping the Pig became common in US military squads, with at least one soldier equipped with an M60 and every squad member carrying ammunition for it. The M60 design transformed infantry tactics as squads took advantage of the immediate volume of fire offered by the design. Although it has now been replaced by the M240 series of weapons in US infantry and mechanized units, the M60 is still in common use with the US armed forces. Meanwhile, its iconic status has been assured by its frequent appearance in many popular films and television shows, from Full Metal Jacket to The A Team. Featuring specially commissioned full-color artwork, this is the full story of the M60, the innovative squad base-of-fire weapon that has equipped the US military from the jungles of Vietnam to the deserts of Iraq.

The Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifle By: Peter Smithurst
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifle was the first rifled firearm issued to every soldier in the British Army, and gave the infantry a revolutionary increase in firepower. First issued in 1853, the Enfield proved itself worthy during both the Crimean War and the Indian Mutiny, where its long range, durability, and interchangeable parts made it a perfect campaign rifle. However, it was during the American Civil War that the Enfield saw the greatest use, with over a million rifles being sold to the armies of both the North and South. This title takes an in-depth look at the design, the history, the mechanics, and the use of one of the most important firearms of the 19th century.

British Cartridge Manufacturers, Loaders And Retailers By: C W Harding
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. British Cartridge Manufacturers is the final volume in C W Harding's comprehensive and authoritative trilogy and completes this unique and invaluable reference resource. Lavishly illustrated throughout with makers' headstamps, this extensively researched work contains detailed lists of further cartridge manufacturers and their products, including much previously unrecorded historical background information -- which in many instances would be lost for ever unless documented. Over the last twenty years the author has encountered a growing number of cartridge collectors, particularly those interested in paper shotgun cartridges. As the demand for old cartridge specimens has grown, so has their value and numerous specimens are now over one hundred years old. Many of the former companies who once produced these collectors' items no longer exist and their related histories have been lost. Now, however, this information has been comprehensively documented and British Cartridge Manufacturers provides a consummate reference book written for collectors, recording data on further lesser-known cartridge manufacturers and loaders, of which today only a handful remain.

Glock: The Rise Of America's Gun By: Paul M. Barrett
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Based on fifteen years of research, Glock is the riveting story of the weapon that has become known as American's gun. Today the Glock pistol has been embraced by two-thirds of all U.S. police departments, glamorized in countless Hollywood movies, and featured as a ubiquitous presence on prime-time TV. It has been rhapsodized by hip-hop artists, and coveted by cops and crooks alike. Created in 1982 by Gaston Glock, an obscure Austrian curtain-rod manufacturer, and swiftly adopted by the Austrian army, the Glock pistol, with its lightweight plastic frame and large-capacity spring-action magazine, arrived in America at a fortuitous time. Law enforcement agencies had concluded that their agents and officers, armed with standard six-round revolvers, were getting outgunned by drug dealers with semi-automatic pistols. They needed a new gun. When Karl Water, a firearm salesman based in the U.S. first saw a Glock in 1984, his reaction was, Jeez, that's ugly. But the advantages of the pistol soon became apparent. The standard semi-automatic Glock could fire as many as 17 bullets from its magazine without reloading (one equipped with an extended thirty-three cartridge magazine was used in Tucson to shoot Gabrielle Giffords and 19 others). It was built with only 36 parts that were interchangeable with those of other models. You could drop it underwater, toss it from a helicopter, or leave it out in the snow, and it would still fire. It was reliable, accurate, lightweight, and cheaper to produce than Smith and Wesson's revolver. Made in part of hardened plastic, it was even rumored (incorrectly) to be invisible to airport security screening. Filled with corporate intrigue, political maneuvering, Hollywood glitz, bloody shoot-outs--and an attempt on Gaston Glock's life by a former lieutenant-- Glock is at once the inside account of how Glock the company went about marketing its pistol to police agencies and later the public, as well as a compelling chronicle of the evolution of gun culture in America.

Penknives & Other Folding Knives By: Simon Moore
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The term 'penknife' is a misnomer for what is correctly called a pocket knife. It was originally applied to folding knives that evolved from earlier scribes' knives during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, but the history of folding knives goes back two thousand years. Not until the mid seventeenth century were these useful tools fully established, with the invention of the spring-back to hold the blade open or closed. They evolved into a multiplicity of shapes and sizes, often combining as many uses as the number of blades that cutlers could mount into the handle. This book traces the history of folding knives, describing a wide variety of the types produced up to the present day.

It is certainly not a technical work, nor is it meant to be a definitive study of this gun mechanically, historically, or otherwise. The work is meant to be more of a montage, if you will, of stories and information related to this wonderful and ageless gun. To be sure, it does contain technical information, as well as a historical chronology of the production of different versions of this model. But, overall, it is meant to show how widespread and diversified this shotgun is in its use throughout the world ... It is about a shotgun that is found in all corners of the world and in the hands of the rich and the poor. It is about everybody's shotgun. -- Nick Hahn, Litchfield Park, Arizona, March 2012

The Book Of Colt Firearms, 3rd Ed (Comprehenive Encyclopedia, 1832-up) By: Rl Wilson
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Table of Contents: - The Book of Colt Firearms, in this fresh, new, Third Edition, improves significantly on the work universally accepted as the finest firearms book ever published. This carefully scoped, no expense-spared landmark work is a necessary volume for the collector, the researcher, the historian, the curator, the shooter or hunter, the arms dealer, or the interested layman. In one 648-page volume is the fascinating story of the gunmakers and engravers, promoters and industrialists who made and sold the products that have met the needs of the armed forces and peace officers, miners and explorers, cowboys and ranchers, and the good, the bad, and the ugly from the old West - as well as hunters and target shooters, Wild West show performers, and the shooters of the silver screen and TV. Author R.L. Wilson has delivered to Blue Book Publications, Inc. a completely redone first section, with several superb new color illustrations, a fresh and detailed foreword, and updated acknowledgments. New illustrations have also been added within the body of this work, improving on the original volume and its Second Edition (1993). The engraving section has been expanded to a total of 16 pages. The bibliography has also been updated, as has the historical chronology. Over 50% more color appears in this new edition than in the classic 1971 First Edition - the book that has sold for as much as $3,000 amongst dedicated collectors. This Third Edition of the Book of Colt Firearms is a complete Colt library in a single volume. In over 1,250,000 words, over 1,250 black & white and 75 color photographs, this mammoth work tells the Colt story from 1832 through the present: a comprehensive study of Colonel Colt and his company, yet tailored for readability, with human interest for the layman. All Colt revolvers, pistols, longarms, automatic weapons, and countless items of memorabilia are described and reviewed in prodigious detail, in an authoritative text of unsurpassed scope. This lavish and unprecedented work presents thousands of facts, drawn from the author's years of specialized research, even featuring serial number sequences by year for all percussion and cartridge hand and longarms (except certain periods of some military production). Standard production arms, variations, experimentals, prototypes, and a variety of engraved guns are explored in minute detail. Markings, calibers, barrel lengths, finishes, and a panorama of other features are thoroughly presented in an easily used reference format. The Colt company's factory records are but one of the many sources for this text. Colt firearms in major museums were researched and recorded. Numerous private collections were thoroughly studied. Catalogs, correspondence, ledgers, and patents from over 175 years were examined. For this Third Edition, accomplished automotive and firearms photographer Dennis Adler has created a selection of eloquent and beautiful photographs celebrating some of the most spectacular of Colt firearms - many from the distinguished collection of Dr. Joseph A. Murphy, whose arms were the basis for Fine Colts, designed as the companion volume to R.L. Wilson's, The Colt Engraving Book, volumes I and II. Dust jacket design and photography by Dennis Adler. 2008

Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. This definitive history of the L&S Bait Co. - the second volume in the History of Illinois Fishing Tackle - began as a simple continuation of historian Stephen Lumpkin's first book, The Jointed River Minnow. After several months of research, he determined that this book would be an enormous task that needed to chronicle the history and document all of the products of a company that was at times the largest fishing lure maker in the world. The result of Mr. Lumpkin's efforts is A Million MirrOlures. The reality is that L&S sold many, many millions of MirrOlures, and this 220 page reference book covers all of them. It sets new standards on books that are devoted to documenting the history of fishing tackle. It includes the Harold LeMaster story, the inventor of the Shiner Minnow that began in 1937, the start-up of L&S in 1946 in Kankakee/Bradley, Illinois, the story of the partnership between LeMaster and Phil Shriner, the beginnings of the MirrOLure, the start up of the Florida operation in Clearwater in 1951, and many fascinating facts about the 63 year period from 1937-2000. This is just the first part of the book. In Part II, the collector reference section of the book, Lumpkin covers all of the models produced (over 150 different models and sizes) and shows over one hundred and sixty colors produced during this time period. Dozens of incredibly detailed charts and illustrations help the collector identify product and learn more about when and for how long it was made. Over 500 full color, high quality photographs are a major part of this book and add to the overall impact of the fishing tackle made by an impressive and world class fishing tackle company still in business today. 500+ Images

Gunsmoke & Saddle Leather (Firearms, Guns) By: Charles Worman
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Table of Contents: - The gun, like the axe and the plow, was an essential tool in the exploration and settlement of the trans-Mississippi West. It provided food for the cooking pot as well as protection against two- or four-legged marauders. As the century progressed, firearms also provided various forms of recreation for both men and women, primarily target and competition shooting. Of course the employment of the gun, whether for good or evil, depended upon the user. The men and women who lived the nineteenth-century western experience sometimes described in detail the role firearms played in their lives. Such accounts included a trapper in the 1830s, a woman crossing the plains by wagon in the 1850s, a drover ( cowboy in modern terminology) enduring the dangers of a long cattle drive, a professional hunter engaged in the slaughter of the once seemingly endless herds of bison, or a soldier campaigning against American Indians. Each account adds to our knowledge of firearms and our awareness of the struggle faced by those who were a part of the western experience. Gunsmoke and Saddle Leather describes the gun's impact on the lives of those in the Westmen and women, whites and American Indians using their own words to tell that story wherever possible.

Niles' Guide To Affordable Double Barrel Shotguns In America 1875-1945 By: Nicholas Niles Jr.
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. In his guide covering 1875-1945, Niles shows how the first truly affordable double barrel shotguns were adapted about 1875 from the excellent, but expensive, hammer and hammerless guns that had evolved in England and the U.S. By about 1890, these costly doubles were being replaced by cheaper English and Belgian Export guns whose low pries were consciously planned to attract cost conscious buyers. Pricing was primarily based on careful study of the market rather than on factory cost. This was a new phenomenon. Market planning had suddenly become as critical a part of the business plan as product design and efficient manufacturing. Promotion and Distribution strategies became equally important. Niles makes the point that the great sales success of Affordables in the U.S. was due to the intelligent balancing of these new considerations by the marketing geniuses who sold them.

British Single Shot Rifles, Volume 7: Rook, Rabbit & Miniature Rifles, Early Types & Hammer Models By: Wal Winfer, Tom Rowe
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. In this volume we cover the single shot rifles that were made in the greatest quantity in England more than all other single shots combined. These are the small caliber rifles known as Rook Rifles. A previous book by Colin Greenwood has been published, which is excellent, but we are going to delve into much more detail with a lot more examples photographed. As nothing had been done previously on their larger brothers the Miniature Rifles, and there is so much overlap. We are including them also. When we started this project we weren't aware of how historically important these little rifles were. In this book we cover the early percussion and air rifle types and then gel into fascinating story of the needle fires. Why these were so important to the British trade as well as future cartridge design is covered in detail. We then cover the various developments in more traditional cartridge rifles through the center hammer break open designs. Also included is large section devoted to additional information and. corrections of material covered in previous books in this series as well as a few pages devoted to simple photography techniques As this story is so large we have had to make two volumes, Volume 8 will conclude the story. That book covers the hammerless rifles, ammunition and reloading and shooting the rook rifle today. We have also included a few recipes for those that would like to prepare a rook dinner.
