Pre-1970 Fishing Tackle Vol 1: Fishing Plugs (Vintage Lures) By: Karl White
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. OUR NOTES: Karl White's three volume series has consistently remained one our most popular resources in this field. Taken together, they represent one of the most broad and comprehensive approaches to this highly collectible (and profitable) collecting hobby. I heartily recommend Karl's 3 book set as a worthy addition to any collector or dealer's reference library. -- John Kincaid, Collector Bookstore Author's Introduction: The purpose of this book is to identify and evaluate plugs and plug boxes dated up to 1970. Plugs are identified as a bodied lure made from wood, metal, plastic or any counterpart. Prices can fluctuate up to 50%, according to the demand of antique tackle. One thing to remember is that the better items keep getting more valuable and the common items stay about the same. Lure Sets (items of one company's production) and Color Sets (all colors produced of one item), should be at least 25% more valuable. The values in this book are rated as to excellent condition, although the items pictured might not be. (From the author's introduction to contents)

Pre-1970 Fishing Tackle Vol 2: Reels, Hooks, Etc. By: Karl White
-- John Kincaid, Collector Bookstore Author's Introduction: The purpose of this book is to identify and evaluate reels and metal lures dated up to 1970. Good reels usually have identification on them. Prices can fluctuate up to 50%, according to the demand of antique tackle. One thing to remember is that the better items keep getting more valuable and the common items stay about the same. Reel and lure sets (items of one company's production) and sets of all the individual reels produced of one type, should be at least 25% more valuable. The values in this book are rated as to excellent condition, although the items pictured might not be. Rarity, demand, condition and age determine value. Keep in mind that the higher the number of items found and in circulation, the lower the value is. A true collector obtains tackle for love of the hobby and not for the investment. The only common denominator that everyone understands is putting a dollar value on it. Good finds of antique fishing tackle are hard to come by and more people are collecting the 1940's, and later. In this book the lures are indexed alphabetically by manufacturer and by common name. The reels are indexed by manufacturer only. There are three indexes: Lure by Manufacturer Lure by Common Name Reels by Manufacturer The pictures in this book were done to give the best view of the item to help with identification. The sizes of the actual lures and reels are not relative to the picture size. All pictures were done by digital camera and are computer enhanced. Enlarged pictures may be obtained for a nominal fee. Best of luck and good hunting, Karl T White -- From Introduction of Contents, page 4

Pre-1970 Fishing Tackle Vol 3: Flyrod Baits, Rods, Misc By: Karl White
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. OUR NOTES: Karl White's three volume series has consistently remained one our most popular resources in this field. Taken together, they represent one of the most broad and comprehensive approaches to this highly collectible (and profitable) collecting hobby. I heartily recommend Karl's 3 book set as a worthy addition to any collector or dealer's reference library. -- John Kincaid, Collector Bookstore Author's Introduction: These three volumes of Fishing Tackle Antiques and Collectables contain my entire collection, with the exception of duplicates. With the donation of my collection, this will be the conclusion of most of my involvement in collecting, having been in it for 55 years. I am consulting now only. The reason for all the unknowns included in the three volumes are so that hopefully, the next generation of collectors will be able to identify them. Fishing tackle is the only collectable which has artistic, mechanical and craft involved. Keep in mind that good items keep getting better and junk will always be junk. Values will be consistent with this statement. Sets, as color or single items will bring a premium. I have been told many times that you can't collect everything, but I have found that this is not true, but having the knowledge of everything is fleeting. Any good collector who focuses on one subject will far exceed my knowledge of that subject. A true collector obtains items for the love of the subject. The only time I have had regrets is the few times I have gotten rid of an item of which I only had one of. It has been a pleasure for me to be part of this hobby and I thank you for sharing your knowledge. The fishing tackle collection will be on display at the beginning of 2003 at the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks, Oklahoma (a southern suburb of Tulsa). With the conclusion of these three volumes and the donation I bid you farewell as I am now retired from collecting. Best of luck and good hunting, -- Karl T. White (From the Introduction, Page 4)

(French) Systeme Lefaucheux: Pinfire Cartridge Arms (Pistols), Civil War By: Chris Curtis
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. French arquebusier Casimir Lefaucheux may rightfully be called the prophet of a new age of firearms.. His invention, in 1833, of the pinfire system opened the door on the concept of practical self-contained ammunition, eventually prompting the development of today's modern centerfire metallic cartridge. The arrival of Lefaucheux' invention coincided with the coming of great industrial revolutions on both sides of the Atlantic, and with them political and social revolutions, as well. Soon countless new types of firearms began appearing in the market. Pinfire revolvers became the requisite sidearm for many leading European military powers, and as revealed for the first time in this new book they were purchased and issued to many units during the American Civil War, both North and South. The popularity of, and adventures with pinfire revolvers by officers and soldiers during our Civil War, including such dashing cavaliers as Confederates Stonewall Jackson and Jeb Stuart, continue to inspire new legions of historians and collectors. First published in a 1983 limited printing as The Pinfire System, this volume is a result of continuing fascination with pinfire arms by the world-wide fraternity of antique gun enthusiasts. Much more than a reprint, Systeme Lefaucheux, Continuing the Study of Pinfire Cartridge Arms is in may ways an entirely new work. The reader will note scores of additions including important new historical data, documents, and photographs of guns, cartridges, and accoutrements. Author Chris Curtis' comprehensive collection of pinfire arms, along with examples from many of the leading public and private collections in America and across Europe, comprises the basis for this study. Hundreds of pinfires of all types are illustrated and discussed, ranging from the humblest single-shot pistol to the great rarities in the field. Also covered are the personalities involved in the design, development, and manufacture of pinfire arms and ammunition; plus technical data, patents, commercial sales, military contracts, markings, cartridge headstamps, and much more. The numerous varieties of pinfire arms are explored, and a rarity chart is even provided for collectors. Once relegated to a minor footnote in the long history of firearms, Systeme Lefaucheux, Continuing the Study of Pin fire Cartridge Arms now elevates these renowned guns to a position of distinction in the annals of weaponry. Here is a welcome addition to every collector's library. 2002

The Henry Repeating Rifle (Civl War Era) By: Les Quick
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. FOR WELL OVER ONE HUNDRED YEARS the sixteen-shot Henry repeating rifle has been a rare prize for collectors and students of old guns. Although the Henry rifle was the technical marvel of its age, many American military minds doubted whether the average mid-nineteenth century soldier could effectively operate it, and as a result the new rifle saw only limited purchase and use during the Civil War. Yet it quickly became a legend, and these revolutionary rifles that one could load on Sunday and shoot all week acquitted themselves very well on the battlefield. But very little was known about themor their brilliant but enigmatic inventor, B. Tyler Henry and even less had been written. That was due, in part, to their very limited production and the fact that the New Haven Arms Company left virtually no records behind after being taken over by Oliver F. Winchester, of subsequent rifle manufacturing fame. That is, until author Les Quick stepped in to fill the void. With the help of literally scores of other antique arms collectors and dealers, many of whom like Les had been researching, gathering serial numbers and amassing other information about Henry rifles for decades, Les Quick has produced what is arguably the definitive word on the famed Henry's Patent Repeating Rifle. You, the reader, are the beneficiary of all that record sifting, data gathering and interpretation. So, open the covers of this book... and enjoy this fascinating story.

    Original 50's School Cheerleader's Megaphone
I just love this old piece. Sure it is a bit worn and has some bruises here and there, but just holding it forces you to think back to your younger days. I have some very special memories from back then and I'm sure you do too. The bright red or orange color could be a clue to where this megaphone was once used. Maybe at the school you attended. I kept picturing some lovely young cheerleader bouncing up and down with excitement and screaming towards the stands as her team scores to take the lead. It is almost electric to imagine that feeling. 24 inches tall with a brass handle and brass mouthpiece. This megaphone is a memory waiting to happen.

Dr William Alliot's Remington Double Deringer By: Drummond, Et Al
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Shortly after the American Civil War, a New York dentist-turned-firearms inventor named William H. Elliot designed a revolutionary pocket pistol to fire the .41 Short rimfire caliber metallic cartridge. At the time, it was the most powerful small handgun cartridge on the market. This compact but hard-hitting pistol was immediately embraced by riverboat gamblers, ladies of the night, messengers, travelers, shopkeepers and anyone else who needed an easily concealable, large-caliber weapon for self defense. Its novel design featured twin, over-and-under barrels that swung open from a top hinge for loading and cartridge extraction, a spur trigger and large, comfortable grips. This was one, but not the first, of the more than 130 firearms patents Dr. Elliot would be granted over the last half of the nineteenth century. To manufacture his new pistol, Dr. Elliot contracted with the E. Remington & Sons arms firm in upstate New York, which by 1867 had been in the gunmaking business for more than fifty years. The Remington Double Deringer, as it has become known among collectors, was sleek, simple, sturdy, effective and inexpensive. It was the right gun for its time and place, and it enjoyed the longest manufacture -- sixty-five years of virtually any firearm before or since. This book tells its story.

Games Of '36: 1936 Olympics In Germany By: Stan Cohen
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The 1936 German Olympics took place at a very critical time in the 20th century and were unusual in many respects. It was the first time that television was used to broadcast a sporting event. The first torch run to light the Olympic flame was originated. Perhaps the most important Olympic film ever produced covered the summer games. It was the first real political Olympics threatened by several potential boycotts. The first fully self-contained Olympic village was constructed. It was the most elaborate Olympics staged up to that time and for several more afterwards. The largest crowd to ever watch a baseball game (100,000) saw an exhibition match between two American teams. Basketball was introduced to the Olympics. Three American competitors were removed from the team for breaking training or for criminal activities. Downhill skiing was introduced to the winter games. A Polish female sprinter was later found out to be a male. Two American sprinters were replaced on the relay team supposedly because they were Jewish. The youngest American participant was a 13-year-old diver. Germany, the host country, won the most medals, the last time a country other than the United States or the Soviet Union would do so. Several athletes such as Jesse Owens and Sonja Henie would become household names throughout the world. Many myths have grown up around the 1936 Olympics, including one that had Hitler snubbing Jesse Owens after his victory in the I00-meter dash.

Fighting Handguns: From Muzzle Loaders To Modern By: Jeff Cooper
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. For these reasons, throughout the centuries the handgun has endured as the best defensive weapon for most people, most of the time. In Fighting Handguns, Jeff Cooper not only takes the reader through the development of this weapon from its beginnings in mid-16th-century Europe through the various iterations of single- and double-action revolvers and semiautomatic pistols, he also discusses some important aspects of carrying and shooting a fighting handgun under combat conditions. The late Jeff Cooper was one of the true pioneers of weaponcraft in the United States. His numerous accomplishments include founder of Gunsite Ranch, editor at large of Guns & Ammo magazine, winner of the Outstanding American Handgunner award in 1995, Rangemaster Emeritus of the U.S. Practical Shooting Association and long-time member of the board of directors of the National Rifle Association.

    Bogdan By: Graydon R. Hilyard
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Graydon Hilyard's exuberant biography of reel maker Stan Bogdan is charmingly intimate. Bogdan, in his late 80s and still at his workbench, is the son of Polish immigrants who wound up in Nashua, N.H. where as a boy he learned to fish and hunt, and as a just-married young man with a prodigious work ethic and unusual manual dexterity decided that there would be a market for meticulously-crafted Atlantic salmon reels. For decades, Bogdan's superb reels which are expensive have been cherished by their owners who often had to wait years before their creator could assemble them in his little shop. Bogdan's decision to focus on Atlantic salmon fly reels made all the difference, although he and his son Steve do produce models for trout and steelhead. Atlantic salmon fly fishers are inordinately fond of their sport, and for more than a century most of the best salmon waters of the world have been controlled by the wealthy and influential. Hilyard's lavishly-illustrated account reveals how such people came to crave and purchase Bogdan reels, and how, after meeting the maker of those reels who is also a superb fly fisherman and a helpful and gentlemanly streamside companion, they began inviting him to fish their own holdings. Hilyard, him-self a passionate pursuer of Atlantic salmon, both sea-run and landlocked, devotes a lot of space to Bogdan flogging far-away salmon pools, testimony to the rewards of the unrelenting pursuit of excellence.

Duck Calls Of Illinois, 1863-1963 By: Robert Christensen
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Few possessions are as highly prized by duck hunters as their favorite calls. Skillfully crafted and highly individualized, calls enable the hunter to attract waterfowl by mimicking their sounds. In recent years, the appreciation for calls and the art of call making has increased notably among waterfowl enthusiasts. As collecting has grown in popularity, a fascination with the history and craftsmanship of duck calls has emerged. In this lavishly illustrated book on the duck calls of Illinois, collector and enthusiast Robert D. Christensen recounts the history of call making and provides a practical guide for collectors of this uniquely American folk art. Featuring famous makers and introducing many lesser known craftsmen, he shows how Illinois artisans dominated the early market and continued to influence the design and the refinement of the modern duck call. The book spans one hundred years of call making, from 1863 to 1963, detailing the development and evolution of call design and focusing on the work of Illinoisans, whose contributions in the golden age of hand-crafted calls have remained unparalleled. Christensen offers useful advice on collecting duck calls, including information on finding antiques, evaluating calls of unknown origin, assessing value, and identifying counterfeit calls. Christensen provides essential data on over one hundred call makers of Illinois, long recognized as a vital and active hub for the craftmanship of calls, and includes over five hundred photographs and illustrations that facilitate identification of the calls. Covered in the catalog of call makers are such historically significant and skilled crafters as Fred A. Allen, credited with having made the first modern duck call; Charles W. Grubbs, maker of the first commercial modern wooden duck call; Charles H. Pet-dew, Illinois's most revered call maker; the Glodo family, of Southern Illinois fame; Philip Olt, founder of the world's largest call company; Charles Ditto, nationally renowned waterfowler and sportsman; and Bill Clifford, maker of the most intricately designed and crafted laminated duck calls. An invaluable reference book and collector's guide, this volume is a unique accessory to waterfowling for enthusiasts and a must for collectors.

Confederate Bowie Knives Of The Georgia State Arsenal By: Josh Phillips
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The story of Jim Bowie's last stand at the Alamo with his famous knife was a 25 year-old legend when the Southern boys took up arms against the Northern invaders. In the era of unreliable flintlock and percussion arms, a fighting knife as a back-up weapon that never fails had become standard equipment for citizens, hunters and soldiers alike, especially in the rural South. In this antebellum knife-culture, most knives were of modest practical proportions, crafted by local artisans or imported from Sheffield, England. But some truly monstrous knives were made in the early Confederacy, the reason for which is still debated among collectors. Perhaps knowing full-well that their government could not provide enough firearms, many CS soldiers went to war with these menacing side-knives. Besides being no match against a regiment in blue armed with rifled-muskets, the 23 inch, two pound weights banging against their thighs for the last twelve hours march were not a good idea. After a year of war (or sooner), many soldiers discarded the huge knives along the fields or sent them back home as impractical souvenirs. Nevertheless, the indefatigable governor of Georgia, Joe Brown, decided that more knives were needed, and his quest to that end is the subject of this book. The mammoth Bowies of excellent quality turned in to the Georgia State Arsenal in 1862 are the closest the Confederacy ever came to a regulation-issue side-knife. The knives served their state and the Confederacy in the field, if not to the fullest aspirations of the hopeful, to the most reasonable needs of the practical soldier. In this comprehensive study of these Southern Bowie knives, author/collector Josh Phillips identifies the craftsmen that answered the governor's call and the many types of huge Bowie knives that they turned in to the state arsenal at Milledgeville. Tracing archaeological findings and newly discovered relics and manuscripts, the author unfolds a modern detective story, complete with all relevant details for today's collectors. The eighty-plus color and B/W full-page photographs by renown photographer, Jack Melton, make this an essential library reference addition for all knife and weapons collectors.

1993 Nfl Checkers Game Miami Dolphins Vs. Buffalo Bills
This is a fun way to settle a team rivalry. Place your twelve Dolphin team helmets on one side of the board while your Buffalo Bill opponent sets up twelve of the Bills helmets on the opposite side. Using the checker strategy of jumping, here called tackling, you capture helmets and get to wear a face mask when you reach your opponent's side (like being kinged in checkers). Produced in 1993 for the National Football League by Big League Promotions. Comes with the like-new condition board, helmets, face masks and directions.
