Russian Space Exploration Fdc Cachet Block 1992 Stamps
GREAT COLLECTION OF THIS 1992 RUSSIAN POSTMARKED FIRST DAY COVER CACHET IN MINT CONDITION. ISSUED BY THE FLEETWOOD CORPORATION, WYOMING, U.S.A. DEDICATED TO SPACE EXPLORATION. THIS CACHET WAS DESIGNED BY ARTIST VLADIMIR BEILIN. HE IS WIDELY ACCLAIMED IN THE FORMER SOVIET UNION. (For this Joint Issue, Beilin worked closely with legendary American artist Robert McCall. Together the two masters conducted *Shuttle Artistry,* exchanging visits to Russiand and the United States as they perfected two virtually identical paintings for both nations virtually identical stamps.) THE DESIGN OF THIS FIRST DAY COVER DEPICTS THAT HOPED FOR 21ST CENTURY MISSION, SHOWING ASTRONAUT AND COSMONAUT REACHING TOWARD EACH OTHER IN FRIENDSHIP...AGAINST THE RUDDY BACKDROP OF A PLANET NAMED FOR THE ANCIENT ROMAN GOD OF WAR. (As a result of momentous changes in the former USSR, hopes for mutual exploration of space have been reborn in a planned joint American and Russian mission to Mars. The design of this First Day Cover depicts that hoped-for 21st century mission.) GREAT CONDITION of this ~ NICELY DESIGNED GRAPHICS IN THIS CACHET ENVELOPE - depicting THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RPO (RAILWAY POST OFFICE), AUGUST 28. OFFICIAL CACHET Sponsored by THE GLEN ELLYN PHILATELIC CLUB. Post Marked CHICAGO & OMAHA R.P.O. TR 21 AUG. 28 1944. On August 18, 1864, the first railway post office in the United Staters was established on the Chicago and Northwestern Railway from Chicago to Clinton, Iowa. Col. George B. Armstrong suggested the plan of a *post office on wheels* which provided for the sorting of mail in transit by clerks assigned to cars supplied with equipment of a suitable character. The experiment proved a success and the system, which was soon adopted by all leading railways, greatly simplified and expedited the U.S. Mail Service. On September 16, 1875, the fast mail service was inaugurated, the first fast mail train being run between New York and Chicago.
